Kokomo. Man, this is something. This place is unbelievable,’” Dubois
said. “It’s a quality-of-place addition that makes it easier for Realtors
to come in and show what a great city we have here. You’ve got the
Y, the new baseball stadium and lot of cool, little shops to show
people.”
He said in the end, though, the numbers and the economic impact
of the new Y are secondary to the central mission the organization
serves.
“The reality is we, as a staff, have to remember that every one
of those numbers is a person,” Dubois said. “And we have an
opportunity to impact every one of those people positively – to build
them up.”
“I don’t want the numbers to obscure the fact that every one of those
12,000 people is a you and a me,” he said. “They’re people who come
from every spectrum of the community, from those who are blessed
financially to those who are struggling to make ends meet for their
kids and their families. The Y is for all those folks.
“At the end of the day, that’s what it’s really about,” Dubois said.
“It’s nice to have 100 percent growth, but what’s even nicer is that
means there are another 6,000 or 7,000 more people we have an
opportunity to impact. That’s the key to the whole thing.”
