iving in comfort and style should not empty your wallet.
Shopping at Robert Miller and Son is your one stop shop to
get the best furniture for all the rooms in your house. The
selection of the best in living room, bedroom, dining room, office
furniture along with great mattresses can be hand-picked and
purchased the day you fall in love with it.
“Our strategy has always been to find the favored trends in the area
and stock them,” said owner Mark Nichols. With that in mind, the
company has researched and stocked the brands that local people
like so when they enter the store, they can leave with their purchase.
La-Z-Boy takes over 25% of the showroom at Robert Miller. The
key feature is the mechanisms, a maze of metal that is hidden
beneath the chair and made in Dayton, Tennessee. This mechanism
makes La-Z-Boy one of three major motion furniture producers.
“Motion furniture included recliners, sofas, loveseats, sectionals
and home theater furniture. These features include motion working
independently from the back and the foot rest. It’s nice to just have
your feet up without the back going down,” said Nichols, “that why
we carry so much of it, all the options. We even carry a line of lift
chairs by La-Z-Boy for our older customers needing chairs right
now,” said Nichols.
Owners Tammie and Mark Nichols have been in the furniture
business for a long time. Mark started at Weldon & Clark on Main
and Markland and worked there for 13 years before moving over to
Robert Miller in 1989. It was there he became friends and business
associates with TimMiller and his father Robert. He started as a
manager then ran the business as part-owner and finally purchasing
it when TimMiller wanted to retire. Robert Miller has been in
business since 1954. Four locations all together; first on North
Washington in the old Armory, then to 31 South and now this
location and has always been family owned and operated.
It wasn’t until 2012 that Robert Miller moved into Kokomo, 1540 E
Boulevard, added more square footage, 44,000 total, 12,000 square
feet larger! This increase in space allowed the company to add a
clearance section, 3,000 square feet and tons of outdoor furniture.
With the new bigger building, Robert Miller was able to add outdoor
furniture that falls in keeping with the American-made theme, some
here in the Midwest using recycled milk bottles for production.
Berlin Gardens uses a Poly Process to break down milk bottles to
create plastic pellets. The pellets are then re-melted and shaped into
plastic lumber shapes.
“This furniture is very long lasting and can be left out in the winter
and summer, just hose it off and it’s ready to use. It’s great for areas
around a pool because the chlorine doesn’t affect it,” said Nichols.
Robert Miller has changed over the years from a seven-man team
to 21 employees, ranging from young to old. One employee, Al,
just made the 30-year mark! They take care of all aspects of the
business, and know their roles. Sales men and women don’t work
on commission so there are no pressure sales here. There is an in-
house furniture design as well as financing, delivery and an in-house
repairman.
“We have the best staff in the business. They are dedicated and
committed to doing a good job. I can step away and they do a great
job. They enjoy the business and the atmosphere where second and
third generation customers keep coming back,” said Nichols. “The
credit there goes to our great staff and the furniture lines we keep.”
Forty percent of Robert Miller’s business is special order. Some
customers like to pick out their fabric and make their own choices.
Robert Miller is happy coming into your home and putting colors
together or just helping you decide how much furniture is needed in
a room.
Good sleep is the key to good health and The Sleep Center will
meet your needs of support and comfort. Stocked mattresses are
made with Gel, foam, memory foam, Tempur, Innersprings as well
as models that use combined materials, many American-made
products such as Sealy made in Plainfield, Indiana.
“We have 35 different options, foam, hybrid, we carry the whole
range with price points, we have something for everyone. We are the
oldest and largest furniture sales with our warehouse attached to the
building, so no driving or waiting,” said Nichols.
These core values of quality and availability are kept close to our
hearts at Robert Miller – from the person that answers the phone to
the person that delivers your furniture, we are dedicated to helping
you live the life you want in your home.
