Miami Correctional staff
honored for aiding police
BUNKER HILL
– In June,
four Miami County Correc-
tional Facility staff mem-
bers took action when so
many others just drove by.
One staff member was
heading to work to start a
12-hour shift and three
were just completing their
12 hours of duty when they
came upon a serious acci-
dent near the facility on
U.S. and 850 South.
Each jumped into action
to assist law enforcement
after two vehicles collided,
killing one of the drivers.
Th e i r a c t i on s e a r n e d
them a special commenda-
tion from Indiana Depart-
ment of Correction Com-
missioner Bruce Lemmon.
Lemmon visited the facil-
ity to present a Commis-
sioner’s Coin to Officer
Zachary Armfield, Officer
Joseph Schlosser, Officer
Michael Arthur and Sgt.
Larry King.
Lemmon said he doesn’t
often give out the coins,
which recognize outstand-
ing service, but he wanted
to recognize the staff mem-
bers for going above and
beyond their duties.
“The staff set an example
of what a public servant is
and represented the correc-
tional facility and the state
of Indiana well,” Lemmon
said. “What a tragic acci-
dent, but I am so proud of
our staff for stepping up
and assisting during this
accident.”
