MILES HOPE VANN
Funeral services for Miles Hope Vann, 89, of Hendersonville, Tenn., who passed away Aug. 22, 1996, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 from Mt. Juliet Funeral Home with interment in Roselawn Gardens in Smyrna. Wayne Coats and Norman Slate officiated.
Mr. Vann was a former resident of the Cumberland Homesteads.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Vann of Hendersonville; son, Dr. Harold Vann of Clarksville; daughters, Mrs. Mary Vann Rackley (Dr. James Rackley) of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mrs. Shirley Vann Grandstaff (John Grandstaff) of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters.
Active pallbearers were Eddie Evans, Greg Vann, Steven Vann, Roger Vann, Van Rackley and Ron Adams. Honorary pallbearers were the Elders of the Madison Church of Christ.

JAMES ELMER LEE
Memorial services for James Elmer Lee, 69, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Aug. 25, 1996, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Roark officiating.
Mr. Lee was born on Aug. 11, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wis., to Elmer and Edith Webber Lee.
He was a distribution center manager for American Olean Tile Company for 29 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years. He was charter Member W. Allis (Wisconsin) Council; Past Grand Knight of Maria Council #4836 in Park Ridge, Ill., Treasurer of Columbus (Ohio) Council; Member of the Crossville St. Bernard N8152; coach, assistant coach, secretary and treasurer of Northern IU Hockey League.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Lee of Fairfield Glade; son, Thomas Edward Lee of Kirkwood, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jim Remiker of San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Cele Lee of Milwaukee and Julie Lee Ramthum of Milwaukee; godchild, Anne Marie Lippert; nieces and nephews.

CADE HARRISON STRACHN
Cade Harrison Strachn, 7, of Halstead Drive, passed away suddenly on Sept. 1, 1996. He was born on June 18, 1989, in Cumberland County, Tenn., son of Alan and Sandra Strachn. Cade was a student at Homestead School.
Funeral services were conducted at noon Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the First United Methodist Church with interment at Crossville City Cemetery. Pastor Mike Ritzman and Dr. James H. Beasley Jr., officiated.
Pallbearers were Bob Adermann, Rick Houston, Jerry Lewis, Scott Hale, Scott Howard and Robert Mayfield.
Survivors include his parents, Alan and Sandra Strachn; brother, Adam Strachn; grandmother, Bucy Strachn, all of Crossville; uncles and aunts, Darrell and Linda DeBord of Pikeville and Hank and Barbie Kemmer of Crossville; cousins, Kristin Kemmer, Josh Kemmer, Heather DeBord, Cassie DeBord, and Cody DeBord; as well as other relatives; and special friends, Landon Headrick and Kristina Keck.
Cade has joined Grand Buddy who went to be with the Lord on Aug. 18, 1996.

Memorial services for Linda L. Howard, 51, of Crossville, who passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 1996, were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 from Milton Funeral Home in Milton, W.Va., with entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Howard was a former employee of J.C. Penney and a consultant for Aloette Cosmetics. She was formerly of Ona, W. Va.
She is preceded in death by her father, Paul; brother, Dennis and granddaughter, Amanda Jo.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence H. Howard of Crossville; son, Harry S. Graveside services for Mrs. Daisy Banks Bleiler, 86, of Marietta, Ga., who passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996, were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Rev. Mike Faulkner officiated.
Mrs. Bleiler was born in Ravenscroft, Tenn., and had lived in Marietta since 1967. She was a retired beautician.
Survivors include her sons, John R. Banks of Marietta and David R. Banks of Dallas; sister, Ollie Roach of Winder, Ga.; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

HARLAN MERLE BOUSSUM
Funeral services for Harlan Merle Boussum, 72, of the Tansi Community, who passed away Sept. 1, 1996, were conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 from First Presbyterian Church with interment at Glen Eden Cemetery of Livonia, Mich. Rev. Steve Simmons officiated.
Mr. Boussom was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Michigan. He was a production worker for General Motors. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Kenneth and Merlin Boussom.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Boussum of Tansi; daughter, Carolyn Slimmen and husband Arnie of Sutherland, Va., and Lois Rummins and husband Rick of Dundee, Mich.; sister, Joyce Cabanillas of Warren, Mich.; grandchildren, Tom Slimmen of Texas, Dave Slimmen of Florida, Amy Kozlowski, Karen Frincke, Laura Rummins and Luke Rummins, all of Michigan; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Arnie Slimmen, Rick Rummins, Jim Vaughn, John Story and Jim Berry.

Funeral services for Margaret Anjou Tucker, 60, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 31, 1996, were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 from New Hope Baptist Church with interment at Creston Cemetery. Rev. Vern Daughtery, Rev. James Haynes and Deacon Ralph Torrelli officiated.
Mrs. Tucker was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Cumberland County. She was a bookkeeper and member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Tucker of Crossville; mother, Nola Hodgin Sells of the Homestead Community; daughter, Amber Blythe Murphy and husband, John, of Crossville; brothers, Dave Hodgin of Nashville and Rodger Hodgin of Twin Bridges, Mont.; sisters, Francine Deason of Murfreesboro and Norma Jean Campbell of Seymour, Tenn.; and granddaughter Noelle Anjou Maxwell of Crossville.

Mr. Looper was born June 29, 1925 in Overton County, Tenn. He was a production worker for Delco, General Motors. He was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services for Veronica Darlene Davis, 17, of Cartersville, Ga., who passed away suddenly on Aug. 29, 1996, were conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with interment at HaleyÕs Grove Cemetery. Bro. Ray Peppers and Bro. Eddie Jones officiated with special music by Yvonne Harrelson and Terry Bear.
Pallbearers were Tyler Patrick, Wally Tabor, Larry Hannah, Jimmy Davis, Timmy Davis, Johnny Wayne Presley and Billy Hach.
A memorial service was held for Veronica at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 from the Acworth Christian Church, Acworth, Ga. Bro. Ray Peppers officiated.
Miss Davis was born April 20, 1979 in Crossville to Tony and Darlene Morgan Davis. She was a student at Cass High School and a member of the Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Ledbetter.
Survivors include her parents, Tony and Darlene Davis of Cartersville, Ga.; brother, Greg Davis of Crossville; sister, Kirstie Davis of Cartersville; grandparents, Clarence and Christine Davis of Crossville and Kenneth L. Morgan of Michigan.

THOMAS MILES "MOE" BASKIN JR.
Funeral services for Thomas Miles "Moe" Baskin Jr., 84, of Fairfield Glade formerly of Murfreesboro, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1996, will be conducted 11 a.m.
Thursday, Sept. 5 from the Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro with interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Bro. Leamon Flatt will be officiating.
Mr. Baskin was a native of Rutherford County and was the son of the late Thomas Miles and Ada Woodruff Baskin Sr. He was a retired supervisor with Arnold Engineering in Tullahoma. Mr. Baskin attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers College, where he was president of the student body, captain of the football team and was inducted into the Middle Tennessee State University Sports Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army in the South Pacific Theater.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Clarice Alberta Baskin, who passed away in 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Todd Baskin; sons, Tom Baskin of Winchester, Van Baskin of Estill Springs, Larry Baskin of Murfreesboro, Sidney Baskin of Cordova, Tenn., and Horace Baskin of Christiana; sisters, Elizabeth Smotherman of Nashville and Doris Carnnell of Titusville, Fla.

NANCY SCRUGHAM BECK
Memorial Services for Mrs. Nancy Scrugham Beck, 86, of Princeton, Ky., who passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996, were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 from Morgan's Funeral Home with interment at Saratoga Church Cemetery in Lyon County. Dr. George McDonald officiated.
Mrs. Beck was a retired teacher and former home economics extension agent and a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Princeton.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Stoll and Frances Brown Strugham.
Survivors include her husband, William Lloyd Beck of Princeton; daughters, Phyllis Beck of Princeton and Nora Beck of Crossville; three grandchildren; brother Hal Scrugham of Greenville, Ala., and several nieces and nephews.

FRANK ROBERTS HANNING
Memorial Services for Frank Roberts Hanning, 83, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Sept. 9, 1996, were conducted 11 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 6 from the Fairfield Glade Community Church. Rev. Dale E. Marshall officiated.
Mr. Hanning was born Nov. 25, 1912 in Indiana. He was a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church. He was a graduate of Purdue University. He retired from Swift and Company Dairy Dept. after 40 years as plant manager. He was member of Charter and Life, Fairfield Glade Lions Club and a 20-year member of Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Dept.
He was preceded in death by his son, Duane E. Hanning.
Survivors include his wife, Iris S. Hanning of Fairfield Glade; sons, Frank Roberts Hanning Jr. of Cedarburg, Wis., and Richard A. Hanning of Hammond, Ind.; sisters, Virginia McGuyer of Evansville, Ind., and Ruth Sprengel of Chandler, Ind.; brother-in-law, Oris Martin; and five grandchildren, David, Kathryn, Sara, Heather and Erica Hanning.

Funeral services for Horace Justin Wyatt, 83, of Crossville, who passed away Sept. 2, 1996, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 from the Faith Baptist Church with interment at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Rev. David Tilley officiated with special music by the Hallelujah Quartet.
Brother Wyatt was born April 30, 1913 in Cumberland County to Andrew and Avo Tabor Wyatt. He was a preacher for many years and plant manager of Turner-Day Handle Mill.
He had been pastor of Faith Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Terry Phipps, Mike Wyatt, Adrian Wyatt, Jeff Wyatt, Larry Wyatt, Boyd Wyatt Jr., Eddie Wyatt, Shane Wyatt and Greg Wyatt.
Honorary pallbearers were John Prince, Sam Jones, Conrad Barnes, Norman Link, Bill Hampton and Dr. Carl Duer.

Mr. Bluem was born June 16, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Clarence Frank and Helen Violet Vanderwerf Bluem. He was a civil engineer with General Dev. Corporation and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Knox was born Sept. 4, 1931 in Cumberland County to Crockett and Jessie Garrison Knox. He was a farmer.

Mr. Morrison was born May 10, 1931 in New York. He was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a Lifetime member of D.A.V.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Morrison of Crossville; sons, William J. Morrison III of Crossville, Joseph P. Morrison of Paramus, N.J., and Guy F. Morrison of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Lisa Morrison of Hackensack, N.J., and Diane P. Funeral services for Aaron Blair Johnston, 18, of Rockwood, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996 suddenly at the Harriman City Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 from the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rockwood with interment following at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Brice Hughes is officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Booth Funeral Home of Rockwood.
Mr. Johnston was a junior at the Rockwood High School.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Willard Miley.
Survivors include his parents, Jack Jr., and Linda Johnston; brother, Benjamin Johnston; sister, Miriam Johnston, all of Rockwood; paternal grandparents, Jack and Mary Johnston of Rockwood; maternal grandmother, Virginia Miley; uncles and aunts, Tony and Sonya Miley of Virginia Beach, Va., Mark and Lea Miley of Crossville; and Joyce and Winston Shepherd of Dallas, Texas.

Graveside services for Claude Lester Smith, 92, of Crossville, who passed away Sept. 2, 1996, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Crossville City Cemetery. Dr. James Lee officiated.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 6, 1903 in Overton County to Thomas Bedford and Lula Bilyeu Smith. He was a restaurant manager and of the Baptist faith.
Pallbearers were Earl Flynn, Theodore Walker, Merle Walker, Joe Randolph, Marvin Norris and Larry Flynn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clark and Charlie Smith.
Survivors include his nephew, Charlie Flynn of Crossville; nieces, Betty Saunders of Nashville, Pat Northup of Dayton Beach, Fla., Vicki Buttran of Brentwood, Tenn.; half-sisters, Margaret McDowell of Nashville, Alma Bogacki of Calif., and Connie Maxwell of Murfreesboro.

Mr. Burgess was born Aug. 6, 1939 in Crossville. He was united in marriage to Donna May Croney on May 6, 1977 at Gainesville, Mo. He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a farmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Martin and Eliza Elizabeth (Swafford) Burgess; son, Perry Bonathan Burgess; three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Donna May Burgess of Ft. Ogden; sons, Michael Lyndon Burgess of Sherwood, Ark., and James Martin Burgess of Ft. Ogden; daughters, Loretta Lewis of Crossville and Melinda Elizabeth Fluty of Davenport, Fla.; brothers, Willie Martin Burgess, Wayne Wendell Burgess, Randell Stevens Burgess and Eldon Carson Burgess, all of Crossville; sisters, Lola Campbell of Crossville and Katherine McFarland of Collegedale, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Stanley Houston York, 82, of Homesteads, who passed away Sept. 9, 1996 in the Cumberland Medical Center, were conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with interment at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Rev. Chester Stephens and Rev. Bobby Bowen officiated with special music by Deloy Brown, Sybil Brown, the Tollett sisters (Nance Noland, Celia Bingham, Newell Kotus) and the Homestead Methodist Church Choir.
Mr. York was born on Jan. 25, 1914 in Burrville, Tenn., to John Balem York and wife Anna Lewallen York. He was an automobile dealer and member of the Homestead Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Ottoma York; brothers, Emmert York and Avery Clyde York Sr.; and sisters, Nola Dunkleberg and Della Freels.
Pallbearers were Steve York, Randy York, Brett York, Anthony Tollett, Brian Tollett, Darrel Young, Edd Walker and Randy Speich.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Leon (Linda) Tollett of Crossville; sons, Eugene York, John York and Roger York, all of Crossville; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one sister, Bertha Hayes of Dayton, Tenn.

Funeral services for Hula Rhea McIntosh, 76, of Owensboro, Ky., who passed away Sept. 10, 1996, were conducted at 1p.m. today, Sept. 13 from Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McIntosh was born in Ohio County, Ky. She retired from General Electric after 29 years of service. She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thurston H. McIntosh.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Shown of Owensboro, Ky.; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Hulette of Louisville, Ky. and Riley Raney of Ninevah, Ind.

Mrs. Methvin was born Aug. 2, 1924 in LaFayette, Ala., to Otis and Fannie Mae Huckaby Sharpe. She was a housewife/homemaker and a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Venable Edison Goss, 78, of the Woody community, who passed away Sept. 10, 1996, were conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with interment at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Rev. Raymond Lawson officiated with special music by Molly Wyatt.
Mr. Goss was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Cumberland County to Andy and Elizabeth Wyatt Goss. Mr. Goss was a farmer and of the Baptist Faith.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Voluner Goss.

LOLA M. HOUSTON
Lola M. Houston, 91, a former Columbia Station resident, died Sunday at the Auburn Manor Rehabilitation Center in Washington Court House, Ohio, after a long illness.
Born in Meridian, Tenn., she lived in Columbia Station 40 years before moving to Washington Court House.
She was a longtime member of the North Ridgeville Church of God.
Mrs. Houston enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and writing letters to friends and relatives.
Survivors include daughters, Lou Burgess of Cookeville and Genny Duke of Washington Court House; sons, Walter ÒBuckÓ Jr., Wesley W. and Ted L., all of Columbia Station; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and sisters, Lydia Hayes and Dolly Garrett, both of Crossville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sr., a daughter, Helen Burgess, a grandson, Ricky Burgess, a great grandson and sisters, Minda Kerley and Annie Hedgecoth.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bogner-Busch Family Chapel, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Ridgeville Church of God, 6000 Lear Nagle Road, North Ridgeville.
Two of her grandsons, the Rev. J. Thomas Duke and the Rev. Tim Houston, will officiate.
Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Eaton Township.

Funeral services for John Edward Dunbar, 78, of Cookeville, formerly of Crossville, who passed away Sept. 10, 1996, were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with interment in Crossville City Cemetery. Mr. Dunbar was born January 20, 1918 in Cumberland County to Carl Edward Dunbar and Haley Jane Patton Dunbar. He was a factory worker for Seng Company and was of the Baptist Faith. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is preceded in death by his son, Dale Edward Dunbar; brothers, Lester and Robert Dunbar; and sister, Pearl Weaver.

Mr. Kemmer was born May 20, 1920 in Cumberland County to Spencer and Canzada Campbell Kemmer. He was a car salesman and member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lena Young and Cora McCulloch; and brothers, Cordell and Charlie Kemmer.

Mr. Walker was born Aug. 20, 1908 in the Bee Tree Mountain community of Overton County to the late Charlie and Sarah Tinch Walker. He was a member of the Monterey First Baptist Church and retired as a greens keeper at the Dayton Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.

Richard Jerain DeVlieg, 72, of Fairfield Glade, passed away at home Sept. 19, 1996. He was born Aug. 11, 1924 in Rockford, Ill., to Charles B. and Lucille Ressan DeVlieg. Mr. DeVlieg was a salesman for Machine Tools and member of Fairfield Glade Community Church. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mrs. Underwood was born Nov. 28, 1943 in Bledsoe County to Burkett and Amanda Burgess Swafford. She was a cook at Cumberland Mountain State Park and member of Homestead Baptist Church.

Mr. Barnes was born Feb. 8, 1921 in Cumberland County to Virgil and Mattie Testament Barnes. He was a drywall contractor and member of the First Nazarene Church in Cookeville.

DAVID HALE
Funeral services for David Clyde Hale, 70, of Pikeville, who passed away Sept. 24, 1996, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Beaver Hill Cemetery with military honors. Rev. John Smith and Minister Mac Foust will officiate.
Mr. Hale was the son of the late Ike Hale and the late Lois Pendergrass Hale Vinson. He was a retired dairyman and a retired Tennessee state corrections officer, a World War II veteran who fought at the Battle of the Bulge.
He is survived by his wife, Jaynese Davis Hale; children, Lois Smith, Kathy Mills, Mary Bickford, Billy Hale and Jaynean Rigsby, all of Pikeville, Tommy Hale and Lee Burnett of Crossville, Pearl Howard of Spencer, and Florence Buckner of Dayton; sister, Irene Baker of St. Louis, Mo.; brother L.T. Hale Jr. of Angleton, Texas; 23 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nieces, three nephews; step-mother, Ailene Hale of Smithville.

DR. JAMES DUCEY
Dr. James Edward Ducey, 76, died Friday, Sept. 13 at Moore Regional Hospital in Southern Pines, N.C.
The son of Eula Bishop and Edward J. Ducey, Dr. Ducey was born in Canonsburg, Pa., on April 14, 1920 and moved to Sewickley, Pa., where he spent his youth. He spent many childhood summers in Crossville visiting his motherÕs parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Bishop.
During World War II, Dr. Ducey served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. Following his military service, he graduated from Harvard Medical School, completed a residency in internal medicine at Roosevelt Hospital in New York and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for further study in pathology at the University of Vienna, Austria. While there, he met his wife, Betty Birdseye of Bellevue, Wash. They married in 1954.
Dr. Ducey practiced medicine in New York City for more than 40 years with an affiliation with Roosevelt, St. Luke Hospital.
During his retirement, he and his wife divided their time between Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Pinehurst N.C., with frequent visits to Crossville.
An avid skier, golfer and bridge player, Dr. Ducey was a member of bridge clubs in New York City and Pinehurst. He and his team members won the National Seniors Bridge Swiss Teams Contract Bridge League.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Birdseye Ducey; children, Story D. Marcoulides, Andree D. Warden, James B. Ducey and Victory L. Ducey; three grandchildren; sisters, Mary Crabtree and Virginia Kramer; and brother David Ducey of Crossville.
Dr. Ducey will be interred in St. James Cemetery in Sewickley, Pa.
