He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and he worked as a chemical engineer on the Manhatten Project in New York City.
He retired from Union Carbide Research Laboratories in Parma, OH, in 1982 after 36 years with Union Carbide Corporation.
Mr. Bennett was a 50-year life member of the Newberg Masonic Lodge in Oregon.

As a former resident of Orchard Lake, MI, where he lived for 22 years, he worked as a sales manager for Wyeth Laboratories. Six years ago, he and his wife, Rebecca, moved to Fairfield Glade. An avid boater, Mr. Batty and his wife spent many years traveling the waterways of Florida and the Bahamas.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rebecca; children, Thomas Batty, Lynn Polulak and Jill Beatti; and four grandchildren.
