RONALD WAYNE COX

Graveside services for Ronald "Ronnie" Wayne Cox, 49, of Crab Orchard, who passed away Sept. 20, 1998, were held Sept. 22 at Haley's Grove Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 1, 1949 in Crab Orchard, the son of Gene and Edna Nail Cox. Mr. Cox was an employee in golf course maintenance.

Survivors include his son, Kelly Shane Cox of Knoxville; mother, Edna Monday of Crab Orchard; father, Gene Cox of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; sister, Diane Atterson of McMinnville, TN; brother, Eddie Cox of Chattanooga, TN, Steve Cox of Spring City, TN, and Mike Cox of Crossville; grandmother, Maggie Nail of Crab Orchard; aunt, Anna Holland of Crab Orchard; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Cox.

DELORES MARIE HALE

Funeral services for Delores Marie Hale, 40, of Sparta, who passed away Sept. 23, 1998, will be held today, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, with burial in Town Cemetery in Spencer.

She was born Nov. 12, 1957 in Crossville, the daughter of Elzie Miller and Wilma Floyd. Mrs. Hale was a greenhouse/nursery worker.

parents, Elzie and Doris Miller of Pleasant Hill, and Wilma and Charles Green of Sparta;

Funeral services for Ermer R. "Boog" Williams, 90, of Centerville, OH, who passed away Sept. 16, 1998, were held Sept. 19 from the Beavercreek Chapel of Tobias Funeral Home. He was born May 3, 1908 in Cumberland County.

WILLIAM CARLISLE ADAMS

Funeral services for William Carlisle Adams, 77, of Xenia, OH, who passed away Aug. 31, 1998 at Veteran's Medical Center, in Dayton, OH, were held Sept. 3, from Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Xenia. The Rev. Ron Coppock officiated.
He was born March 22, 1921 in Wilder, TN, the son of James B. and Lola Elmore Adams.
Mr. Adams was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also a charter member of the Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Xenia.

Survivors include his wife, Christa; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Doug Kidd; Faye and Tim McIntire; grandchildren, Emily Kidd Anderson, Joseph Stanaway and Carrie Stanaway Whitson; stepgrandchildren, Aaron McIntire and Heather McIntire; great-grandchildren, Joseph Stanaway, Madeline Anderson and baby Whitson; sisters, Sybil Swafford, Jamie Agee, and Reeda Wampler; and brother, Walter Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lola Adams, and sister, Michelin.

WILLENE ELIZABETH ELMORE

A memorial service for Willene E. Elmore, 76, of Dayton, OH, who passed away Feb. 16, 1998, will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 from First Christian Church in Crossville. The Rev. George Long will officiate. Private interment services will be held in the Methodist Cemetery in Clarkrange, TN.
She was born Feb. 8, 1922 in the Isoline community of Cumberland County, the daughter of Walter and Nina Elmore.

Survivors include her sisters, Mary Lou Smith, Loma Corn, Betsy Fair, Rachel Avant and Barbara Harshman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roscoe, Oliver, Hollis and Eugene Elmore.

PATRICIA LOUISE WEBSTER

A memorial service for Patricia Louise Webster, 72, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Sept. 4, 1998, was held Sept. 5 at the Fairfield Evangelical Free Church. Interment was planned in Cheboygan, MI. She was born Sept. 28, 1925 in Park Ridge, IL, the daughter of Frank and Frances McBride.

Mrs. Webster was a graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago, where she earned a degree in nursing. She worked in the nursing profession until 1986. She and her husband, Carl, retired to Fairfield Glade in 1989. She belonged to the Fairfield Evangelical Free Church, where she served on the library committee, and she was also active in the Cumberland Plateau Christian Women's Club. In addition, she played with the Wren Women's Golf Group.

Survivors include her husband, Carl; children, James, Patty, Barbara and Stephanie; and 12 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests that memorials be made to the building fund of Fairfield Evangelical Free Church.

MARGARET LEE PETRY

Funeral services for Margaret Lee Petry, 83, of Crossville, who passed away Sept. 10, 1998, were held Sept. 12 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. The Rev. Russell Honeycutt officiated.

Graveside services were held later that day in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, TN, with the Ronald Wilson speaking.

She was born Oct. 25, 1914 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Lee Alexander and Dorothy Belden Coleman.
Mrs. Petry was a secretary, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Petry of Crossville; sister, Betty Shores of Murfreesboro, TN; half-brother, Herman Coleman of Mt. Juliet, TN; and stepdaughters, Jean Moore of Madison, Janet Wilson, and husband, Ron, of Buchanan, WV, and Norma Carpenter and husband, Bill, of Laurel, MD.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Perkins, and son, Charles Perkins.

She was born Jan. 18, 1911 in Cumberland County, the daughter of George Washington Ashburn and Mary Barringer Ashburn.

Mrs. Sousek was a homemaker, and she was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services for Buster Brown Swafford, 87, of the Woody community, who passed away Sept. 7, 1998, were held Sept. 9 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Fredonia Cemetery. Bro. Jerry Smith officiated, with special music by Larry and Wanda Tramel.

He was born April 20, 1911 in Bledsoe County, the son of Joe and Almeda Hale Swafford.
Mr. Swafford was a farmer, and he was a member of the Church of Christ. He also attended Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Audley Swafford of Warner Rob, GA; daughter, Wilbalene Halligan of Burbank, IL; stepdaughters, Emalene Phillips of Crossville, and Retha Copeland and husband, Tim, of Crossville; stepsons, Ernest Tabor, Estel Tabor, Eugene Tabor, Edgar Tabor and Emmett Tabor, all of Crossville; and brothers, Lawrence Swafford of Dunlap, TN, and Chester Harlan Swafford of Soddy-Daisy, TN.

He was born April 9, 1954 in Cumberland County, the son of Joe and Betty Elmore Dunaway.
Mr. Dunaway was a real estate broker, and of the Methodist faith.

He was born May 21, 1969 in Eustis, FL, the son of Bernard and Shirley Goney.

A funeral Mass for Robert William Paul Christ Sr., 64, of the Mayland community, who passed away Sept. 7, 1998, will be celebrated Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

He was born Sept. 19, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Paul and Edith Peterson Christ. Mr. Christ was a retired police officer in Florida.

Funeral services for Ray "Jack" Eller, 79, of Jada Drive, Crossville, who passed away Sept. 2, 1998, were held Sept. 5 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

He was born Dec. 18, 1918, in Ashland, WV, the son of Walter Eller and Cora Collins Eller.
Mr. Eller was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired coal miner, and he was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Pansy Eller of Crossville; son, Ronnie Eller of Chicago, IL; daughter, Priscilla Eller of Crossville; brothers, Wade and Homer Eller, both of West Virginia; sisters, Johnnie Wimmer, Betty Harless and Hazel McMillian of West Virginia; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora Eller; brothers, Lloyd, Claude and Thurman Eller; and sister, Ruth Mabe.

HAZEL HALVORSEN

Hazel Halvorsen, 82, formerly of Crossville, passed away Sept. 2, 1998 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, TN.

She was born Nov. 25, 1915 in Grapevine, TN.
Mrs. Halvorsen had resided in the Haven of Rest Nursing Home for several years.
Survivors include her son, Arthur Halvorsen of California; and sisters, Zenobia Martin of Crossville and Zella Collier of Laurel, MD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Halvorsen; and her parents, Fred and Grace Perry.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Nashville.

She was born Aug. 27, 1912 in Cumberland County, the daughter of William Clinton and Martha Jane Brown Hedgecoth.

Mrs. Hamby was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughters, Eva Redwine of Hebbertsburg and Carolyn Hedgecoth of Crossville; son, Willis Hamby of Hebbertsburg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Berlin Hedgecoth of Monterey; and sister, Bernice Price of Kingston, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben "Bob" Clarence Hamby; brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Harold Hedgecoth; and sisters, Wilma Hedgecoth and Nola Hamby.

He was born March 28, 1925, in Union County, TN, the son of John and Samantha Wolfenbarger Mayes. Mr. Mayes was in machine repair for General Motors Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mayes of Crossville; brothers, Earl Mayes of Crossville, and Carl Mayes of Bedford Heights, OH; sister, Mildred Bogucki of Garfield Heights, OH; special nieces, Wanda Cox, Kelli Tipton and Sherrie Cox, all of Crossville; and nephew, Phil Cox of Crossville.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ona Biank; parents, John Mayes and Samantha Wheaton; and half-brothers, Tilman Mayes and Curtis Mayes.

She was born April 1, 1956 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Ikey and Emma Bilbrey Davis.

MARY LOUISE "COBBIE" SEAGRAVES

Funeral services for Mary Louise "Cobbie" Seagraves, 74, of Sparta Highway, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 30, 1998, were held Sept. 2 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Henderson, TN, the daughter of Charles C. and Mary Clemant Cobb. Mrs. Seagraves was a homemaker, and a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Seagraves of Crossville; daughters, Phyllis Sunday of Jacksonville, NC, and Atha Comiskey of Nashville; grandchildren, Jennifer Danda of Sanduskey, OH, and Chad Pace of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Julia Louise Danda and Jaimi Marie Danda, both of Sandusky, OH; and nephew, Charles Morris, and 10 other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Lamont Van Dell, 90, of Brokenwood Lane, Fairfield Glade, passed away Sept. 2, 1998.

He was born May 2, 1908 in Syracuse, NY, the son of James and Margaret Marr Van Dell.
Mr. Van Dell was a food service consultant, and he was of the Lutheran faith. He was also a Mason.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Deibele of Fairfield Glade; son, Robert Van Dell of Midland, MI; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ANNIE BAISLEY HENRY

Funeral services for Annie Baisley Henry, 91, of Dunbar Lane, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 31, 1998, were held Sept. 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born Dec. 21, 1906 in Cumberland County, the daughter of William and Mary Elmore Baisley.

Mrs. Henry was a homemaker, and she was of the Baptist faith.

She was born June 20, 1914, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of Lamar Cramer Dorcas and Martha Rosalie Roha.

A memorial service for Ronald Conrad Lodeesen, 71, of Trentwood Drive, Fairfield Glade, who passed away Sept. 2, 1998, was held Sept. 5 from Fairfield Glade Community Church.

He was born June 18, 1927 in Grosse Pointe, MI, the son of Herman J. and Trudy deHeer Lodeesen.
Mr. Lodeesen was a sales engineer in marketing for Howard Plating Industries. He was a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church, a member of the Elks Club, and a volunteer fireman for Fairfield Glade. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He resided in Royal Oak, MI, for 60 years before moving to Fairfield Glade in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Hauca Lodeesen of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughters-in-law, David Lodeesen of Dallas, TX, Craig and Robin Lodeesen of Jupiter, FL, Brian and Lori Lodeesen of Royal Oak, and Scott Lodeesen of Roulmas, MI; nine grandchildren; and sister, Alice Seelye of Anderson, SC.

She was born April 3, 1942, the daughter of Willie Thomas Waldo and Minnie Goss Waldo.

Funeral services for 1-year-old Jonathan Dale Pennycuff, who passed away Aug. 30, 1998 in East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, were held Sept. 1 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home. Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 4, 1996 in Crossville, the son of James and Ann Pennycuff.

Funeral services for Elaine Sebastian Gompf, 74, of Fairfield Glade and West Knoxville, who passed away Sept. 1, 1998, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 3 in Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel in Knoxville, with private interment at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gil Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Sebastian attended Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She was a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir, the hand bell choir and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club and past president of the Ladies Nine Hole Golf League. Mrs. Sebastian was a retired teacher at Livingston High School in Livingston, NJ.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, John L. Gompf Sr. of Fairfield Glade and Knoxville; daughters, Rebecca Elaine Gompf of Knoxville, and Sarah Lynne Simmons of Mesa, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Laurie Gompf Jr. of Milford, NJ; grandchildren, Carl, Amanda, Tim and Christopher Gompf; mother and stepfather, Rhea and George Means of Robinson, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Barbara Sebastian of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Edna Rebecca Key, 80, of Monterey, who passed away Aug. 30, 1998, were scheduled for today, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. from the Monterey First Freewill Baptist Church, with burial in Welch Memorial Cemetery.

She was born June 28, 1918, in Blue Diamond, KY, the daughter of Arkley Lee and Minnie Herron Bilbrey. Mrs. Key was a member of the Monterey First Freewill Baptist Church and the Monterey Senior Citizens. She was a retired cook at Monterey High School.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Randall and Betty Key of Monterey, Jack Key of Cabot, AR, and Fred Key of San Angelo, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jack Grimsley of Greensburg, KY, Luanna and Ralph Padgett, and Rebecca and Odell Whittenburg, all of Crossville; daughter-in-law, Elsie Key of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Vickie Hanson, Susan Pay, Robin Jewell, Howard Shea, Karen, Steve, Scotty and Stacy Key, Tara and Chris Whittenburg, and Nicki and Chad Landers; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ray Bilbrey of Muncie, IN.

He was born Oct. 28, 1919 in Cumberland County, the son of William Thomas and Delilah Jane Hall Selby. Mr. Selby was retired from the City of Crossville Water Department. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Rushie Hedgecoth Selby of Crossville; daughter, Alma J. Selby Adcox of Crossville; son, Estel Selby of Crossville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She was born Feb. 20, 1967 in New Castle, IN, the daughter of Joe and Phyllis Joann Brown Shelton. Ms. Shelton was a factory worker, and she was of the Baptist faith.

Memorial services for Thomas Frederick Apgar, 85, of Shoemake Road, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 27, 1998, will be held tonight, Sept. 1, at 6:30 at First Congregational Church of Crossville, with The Rev. Cecil McFarland officiating.

He was born June 15, 1913 in New York, NY, the son of Milton Phillip and Anna Malstrom Apgar. Mr. Apgar was an architect, and he was a member of the First Congregational Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Waller Apgar of Crossville; daughter, Judy Loyd of Crossville; stepdaughter, Jo Bray of Connecticut; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

KARL THOMAS CHAPPELL

Karl Thomas Chappell, 56, of Shorty Barnes Road, Crossville, passed away Aug. 27, 1998. A memorial service will be held at a later date in California.

He was born Sept. 14, 1941 in San Diego, CA, the son of Thomas and Vera Jensen Chappell.
Mr. Chappell was an electrician, and he was of the Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Chappell of Crossville; daughters, Jackie Busch and Sherry Spurr, both of San Diego; four grandchildren; mother, Vera Chappell of San Diego; brothers, Dale Chappell of Montana and Allen Chappell of Idaho; sisters, Gwen Henwood of Texas, and Sandy Hortenhower and Vanessa Salmons, both of San Diego; and stepson, Sgt. She was born Oct. 9, 1924 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Wed Lee Houston and Charlotte Hall Houston.
Mrs. Hennessee was a physical therapy technician, and she was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Junior Hennessee of Crossville; daughters, Donna Griffin, Deanna Smith and Dianna Smith, all of Crossville; son, Dale Hennessee of Crossville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Marshall Houston of Crossville; and sisters, Joyce Alley of Nashville and Willie Hancock of Crossville.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dixie; son, Harold Lester; sister, Faye Etta Phillips; and brothers, Dan, Clay and Lester Houston.

He was born Nov. 26, 1915 in Soddy-Daisy, the son of John and Naomi Haynes McAfee.
Mr. McAfee worked in construction, and he was a heavy equipment operator.
