NAOMI HAGEMAN

Funeral services for Naomi Hageman, 61, of Cookeville, who passed away Nov. 9, 1997 in Cookeville General Hospital, were held Nov. 12 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Tollett's Chapel Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 10, 1936 in Cumberland, KY, the daughter of Burgin and Cora Boggs Fields. Mrs. Hageman was a waitress and of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include her husband, Harold R. Hageman of Cookeville; sons and daughters-in-law, Philip R. and Cindy Hageman of Algood, and Jeffrey R. and Jennifer Hageman of Hartsville, TN; grandchildren, Nikki, Brittney and Benjamin Hageman; and brothers, Harold Fields of Lexington, KY and Roland Fields of Hamilton, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burgin and Cora Boggs Fields; and sister, Ruth Smith.
Pallbearers were Bill Key, Tony Smith, Joel Smith, Phil Asberry, Jerry Hassler and Larry Hayes.
Bros. Mike Ritzman and Hank Kemmer officiated.

THOMAS McCLOUD

Funeral services for Thomas McCloud, 71, of Crossville, who passed away Nov. 12, 1997, were held Nov. 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

He was born August 26, 1926 in Davidson County, TN, the son of William and Augusta Smith McCloud. Mr. McCloud was a plumber, and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Susie McCloud of Crossville; daughters and son-in-law, Amy and Ricky Tanner of Crossville, and Martha Coffey of Martinville, TN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Waymond McCloud of Crossville, and Walter McCloud of Ripley, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Augusta Hodge and Bill McCloud; son, Tommy McCloud; and brothers, James and Marvin McCloud.

Pallbearers were Tommy Martin, Jackie Martin, Raymond Ball, Tim Morgan, Gary Turner and Josh Martin. The Rev. David Morgan officiated.

SAMUEL WOODROW NEELY

Funeral services for Samuel Woodrow Neely, 76, of Clear Creek Road, Crossville, who passed away Nov. 8, 1997, were held Nov. 10 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Bowman Church Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 26, 1921 in Jamestown, the son of Virginia Hall Neely and Andrew Neely.
Mr. Neely was an inspector for General Motors. He was also the minister of Bowman Road Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Neely of Crossville; sons, Ralph Fannin of Dayton, OH and David Neely of Crossville; daughters, Lorae Phillips of Casstown, OH and Michelle Hines of Crossville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Neely, Bill Neely and Floyd Neely all of Crossville; and sisters, Hattie Burgess, Mae Brewer and Lucille Campbell, all of Crossville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Virginia Neely; one brother; and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Ralph Fannin, Eric Phillips, Todd Hines, Scott Fannin, Kevin Fannin, Maurice Scarbaugh and Curt Scarbaugh.

MARY STEPHANIE PLUMB

A funeral Mass for Mary Stephanie Plumb, 83, of Hamby Lane, Crossville, who passed away Nov. 11, 1997, was celebrated Nov. 14 from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Three Lakes Cemetery, Three Lakes, WI.

She was born Dec. 8, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Stephan and Helen Bindus Wojtusik.
Mrs. Plumb was a Wal-Mart employee, and of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Ann Dixon of Los Angeles, CA; son, Ralph Plumb of Portland, OR; and brother, Edward Wojtusik of Vernon, AL.

Pallbearers were Jerry Dixon, John Quillen, Tony Gastin, Steve Lamb, Roy Howard, Bill Stephens and Michael Day.

The Revs. Philip Thoni and Michael Roark officiated.

MIKETTA SUE THOMPSON

Funeral services for Miketta "Mickey" Sue Thompson, 54, of East Adams Street, Crossville, who passed away Nov. 12, 1997, were held Nov. 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born Jan. 26, 1943 in Beckley, WV, the daughter of Michael and Vesta Webb Halase.
Mrs. Thompson was a social worker for Hilltoppers, and a member of the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Thompson of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brenda Thompson of Crossville; grandson, Charles Kaelan Thompson of Crossville; mother, Vesta McArthur of Crossville; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Debbie McArthur of Utah.

Pallbearers were Meritta Cobb, Jeanen Houston, Mary Freeman-Burton, Ozetta Dayton, Cindy Corbin, Jamie Hill, Joyce Spence and Pat Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Andre Wilson and Frances Beard.
Bros. Wayne Rutherford and Dane Tabor officiated, with special music by Sue Brink, Bonnie Neveu, Sybil Brown, Galen Winebrenner and Dane Tabor.

HAROLD EDWARDS

Funeral services for Harold Edwards, 68, who passed away Nov. 14, 1997, were held Nov. 18 from the chapel of Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted, OH, with burial following.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1928 in Crossville, the son of Arthur and Avo Pennycuff Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was a superintendent at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Jean Edwards; sons, Gary Edwards of Sheffield Lake, OH, and Harold Edwards Jr. of North Ridgeville, OH; daughters, Revonda Lightner and Renee Grose, both of North Ridgeville and the late Lilly Mae Dull; nine grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Edwards and Howard Edwards, both of Crossville, J.C. Edwards of Elyria, OH, and Roger Edwards of North Ridgeville; and sisters, Midge Kilby and Jo Garrett, both of Crossville, Judy Martin of North Ridgeville, and the late Linda Edwards and Geraldine Suthphin.

CLAYTON EVERETT HALE SR.

Funeral services for Clayton Hale Sr., 57 of Old Ross Road, Crossville, who passed away Nov. 15, 1997 in White County Hospital in Sparta, were held Nov. 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery.

He was born April 29, 1940 in Cumberland County, the son of Gurlie and Hattie Brown Hale.
Mr. Hale was a mechanic and a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Dean Hale of Crossville; daughters, Patricia Spivey of Russellville, KY, Virginia Presley of Crossville and Teresa Bantrum of Indianapolis, IN; son, Clayton E. Hale Jr. of Crossville; three granddaughters; sisters, Joyce Tedder and Patricia Gunter, both of Crossville and Barbara Johnson of Dayton, TN; and brother, Willie Estel Hale Sr. of Crossville.

Pallbearers were Charles David Morris Sr., Donald Ray Moore, Charles David Morris Jr., Keith Allen Morris, Willie Estel Hale Jr., and Keith Price.

THOMAS McCLOUD

Funeral services for Thomas McCloud, 71, of Crossville, who passed away Nov. 12, 1997, were held Nov. 15, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Davidson County, TN, the son of William and Augusta Smith McCloud. Mr. McCloud was a plumber and of the Baptist faith.

RIDLEY "BEN" COOPER HINCH

Funeral services for Ridley Ben Cooper Hinch, 89, of Sparta Highway, who passed away Nov. 19, 1997, were held Nov. 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery.

He was born March 23, 1908 in Crossville, the son of Vance and Anna Miller Hinch.
Mr. Hinch was a banker and a member of Claysville Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Hinch of Crossville; sons, Don Hinch and Dennis Hinch, both of Crossville, Vance Hinch of Leesburg, VA, and Dwight Hinch of Nashville; seven grandchildren; and sisters and brother in-law, Marie and Harold Marlow of Crossville, and Rosalie Freeman of Anderson, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vance and Anna Hinch; brothers, Roger, Roy, Richard, Craven, Miller and Billy Hinch; and sister, Elizabeth Graham.

Pallbearers were Terry Hinch, Vance Graham, Sam Graham, Jerry Graham, Kevin Hinch, Gordon Hinch, Bill Hinch Jr., Bob Hinch and Randy Marlow.

Honorary pallbearers were Barbara Couch, Frieda Mercer, Ed Parsons and Bob Lay. Revs. Cliff Ingram and Raymond Pierson officiated.

LENA McCORMICK WELLS

Funeral services for Lena McCormick Wells, 93, of Pleasant Hill, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Ward Bandy of Knoxville; grandchildren, Dan Bandy and wife, Susan, of Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Thomas Bandy and wife, Jennifer, of Knoxville, Claire Bandy of Heidelberg, Germany, and Jane Peterson and husband, Bradley Peterson of Johnson City, TN; great-grandchildren, Laurel Bandy of Colorado Springs, CO, Jena and Lauren Bandy of Knoxville; adopted daughter, June Ledford of McMinnville; eight stepsons and stepdaughters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

HELEN M. BROWN

Helen M. Brown, 90, formerly of Crossville, died Oct. 13, 1997 in Bakersfield, CA, where she had lived for the past seven years.

She was born Helen Margaret Adams on May 31, 1907 in Aylmer, Ontario, Canada.

Mrs. Brown came to the United States in 1922. She and her husband, the late James Clyde Brown, moved to Crossville in 1967. After her husband's death in 1975, Mrs. Brown remained here until 1990. She was a long-time active member of numerous community organizations, including the Top Town Garden Club, Welcome Wagon and the Crossville Senior Citizens, where she played in the group's kitchen band. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in Martha Circle. She also served for many years as the church news reporter to the Crossville Chronicle.

Survivors include her son, Robert James Brown of Westlake Village, CA; daughter, Marilyn Brown Ayers, of Fredericksburg, VA; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Brown in Crossville at a later date, with interment in Green Acres Cemetery.

EDWARD EUGENE PRUITT

Funeral services for Edward Eugene Pruitt, 70, of Wallop Lane, Crossville, who passed away Oct. 26, 1997 were held Oct. 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
He was born Jan. 30, 1927 in Fruithurst, AL, the son of Eugene Benjamin and Delia Walker Pruitt.
Mr. Pruitt was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sisters, Fannie Brady of Crossville, Gladys Gray of Rocky Face, GA and Dorothy Poore of Muncie, IN; brother, Oscar Pruitt of Charleston, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chris Bullard, Dustin Bullard, Jeremy Houston, Hershell Brown, Josh Brown and Dennis DeRossett.

ORVAL ROSS ALEXANDER

Orval Ross Alexander died at Cumberland Medical Center on Oct. 21, 1997.
He was born on April 5, 1915 in Yorktown, TX, the son of Irvin Ross Alexander and Lola Wofford Alexander. Dr. Alexander was a graduate of Drumright High School, Drumright, OK, and held a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. He worked for American Can Company Research and Development for more than 30 years, where he was a senior research associate, and at one time he was the director of research at the Barrington, IL, Laboratories.

Dr. Alexander and his wife, Eleanor J. Alexander, moved to Cumberland County in 1972 and built a home on Bell Road, where they lived until they moved to the Uplands Retirement Village in 1990. He served four terms on the Uplands executive board, most of the time as treasurer. He had a great interest in gardening and landscaping, and cared for the daylily beds on West Avenue for many years, and was president of Cumberland County Beautiful. He headed the volunteer tax-aide program for the American Association of Retired Persons and the Internal Revenue Service for Cumberland County for a number of years.

An informal coffee hour was held Oct. 25 at Fletcher House, where he and Mrs. Alexander moved in June 1996.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Jan Goodman of Indianapolis, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Jarel Ross Alexander and Cheryl Lane Alexander of Sun Prairie, WI; grandchildren, Adam S. Goodman of Seattle, WA, Katy Goodman of Bloomington, IN, and Lane Ross Alexander of Sun Prairie; and sister, Dr. Wyvona A. Lane of Alexandria, VA.

A committal service will be held at a later date at the Alexander Cemetery near Quero, TX.

JUDY KAY BARNWELL

Funeral services for Judy Kaye Barnwell, 38, of South Webb Avenue, Crossville, who passed away Oct. 25, 1997 in St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, were held Oct. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery.

She was born June 4, 1959 in Cumberland County, the daughter of James Earl Campbell and Minnie Norris Campbell.

Mrs. Barnwell was a nurse technician at Country Place Health Care and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, John Barnwell of Crossville; son, Jonathan Zack Barnwell of Crossville; daughter, Tausha Barnwell of Crossville; mother, Minnie Johnson of Crossville; father, James Earl Campbell of Crossville; sisters, Donna Parrot, Sharon Miller, and Connie Wyatt, all of Crossville; and brothers, Ronnie Campbell and James Alvin Campbell, both of Crossville.

HESSIE LONG

Funeral services for Hessie Long, 87, of North Webb Avenue, Crossville, who passed away Oct. 24, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Oct. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 2, 1910 in Overton County, the daughter of Frank and Fannie Maddox McCormick. Mrs. Long was a secretary and member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Martha Long of Smyrna, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine and Rick Osban of Murray, KY; grandchildren, Kyle, Lori, Michelle and Sherry; and brother, George McCormick of Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merial McKinley Long.
Pallbearers were Toby Rogers, Phil Rogers, Dale Elmore, Jim McCormick, Kyle Long and Rick Osban. Dr. James H. Beasley Jr. officiated.

WILLIE MAE ROBERTS

Funeral services for Willie Mae Roberts, 88, of Taylor's Chapel Road, Crossville, who passed away Oct. 24, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Oct. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery.

She was born May 28, 1909 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Sam and Martha Kidwell Pace. Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her son, John Roberts of Crossville; daughters, Wilma Jean Hyder, Betty Hyde and Marie Burnett, all of Crossville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Wells and Lou Ella Fields, both of Crossville.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elmo Roberts; son, James Eugene Roberts; grandson, Tony Roberts; brothers, Oscar, Jim and Claude Pace; and sisters, Rebecca Patton, Clara Seals, Mable Hughes and Florence Turner.

Pallbearers were Rick Patton, Lester Holt, Johnathan Loveday, Greg Donnelly, Tom Parham and Ace Baker. Bro. Bill Smith officiated.
