DAVID ELDRIDGE D'ARMOND III

Memorial services for David Eldridge D'armond III, 53, of Cleveland, TN, who passed away Sept. 21, were held today, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Cleveland.

He was the son of the late David E. Jr. and Helen Marion Watkins D'armond.
Mr. D'armond was a graduate of Cleveland State Community College, earning an associate's degree in criminal justice. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University, earning an bachelorŐs degree in sociology. He was also a graduate of Columbia Military Academy. He was retired from Tenco Services, where he was employed as a claims adjuster. He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Varnell D'armond; daughter, Lee D'armond of Cleveland; stepdaughter, Missy Benear of Edmond, OK; stepgrandsons, Derek and Grant Benear; brother, John Marion D'armond of Crossville; and one niece.

IDA ALICE HOUSTON

Funeral services for Ida Alice Houston, 92, of the Burke community, who passed away Sept. 18, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Sept. 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in the Parham Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 11, 1904 in Cumberland County, the daughter of William Thomas Selby and Delilah Hall Selby.

Mrs. Houston was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Ellen Kindrick of Crossville and Maxie Whitlock of Knoxville; sons, James Walter, Wendell, and Willis Houston, all of Crossville, and Manuel Houston of Garden City, GA; 51 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, John Selby of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Houston; sons, Edgar, Hoyt, Cecil and Wayne Houston; daughters, Omie Hensley, Annalene Hankins, and Edith Winstead; sisters, Gracie Swafford, Nellie Hale Sherrill, and Carrie Hale; and brothers, Henry, Howard, Lloyd and Clifford Selby.

Pallbearers were Allen Houston, Danny Irwin, Sam Houston, Cecil Houston Jr., Johnny Houston and Jerry Houston.

LINDA M. INMAN

Graveside services for Linda M. Inman of Nashville, were held Sept. 13, 1997 at Calvary Cemetery in Nashville.

She was the daughter of Ethel P. Metcalfe and the late Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe, formerly of Crossville. Survivors include her sons, Curtis and Colby of Nashville; daughter, Ms. Lynne West of Georgia; four grandchildren; her mother, Ethel P. Metcalfe of Nashville; brothers, Bobby Metcalfe of Anderson, IN and Tommy Metcalfe of Nashville; and sister, Mary Ann Scanlon of Nashville.

ALLEN GUY MILLER

Funeral services for Allen Guy Miller, 73, of Hillcrest Drive, Crossville, who passed away Sept. 18, 1997, were held Sept. 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery.
He was born July 31, 1924 in Overton County, TN, the son of Quitman and Daisy Masters Miller.
Mr. Miller was a furnace operator in a steel mill and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Miller of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Gina Miller of Crossville; son, Paul Miller of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Donald Fisher of Crossville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Joyce Frady of Rockwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quitman and Daisy Miller; brother, Dempsey Miller; and sister, Marie Norris.

PAULINE MELVINA NEELY

Funeral services for Pauline Melvina Neely, 73 of Stoneway, Crossville, who passed away Sept. 16, 1997 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville, were held Sept. 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born June 1, 1922 in Tazewell, TN, the daughter of Jarod Milford and Viola Fortner Yoakum.
Mrs. Neely was office manager for Plateau Realty Company and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Bill Marzinzik of Saugus, CA, and Cindy and Tom Cantrell of Valencia, CA; granddaughters and their husbands, Wendy and Kurt Shaw of California, and Lisa and Steve Konczak of Michigan; grandsons, Curtis Marzinzik and his wife, Kris, of California, and John Latuperissa of Washington DC; great-grandchildren, Shayna and Lauren Shaw and Madison and Christina Marzinzik; and dear friends, Vancinetta Wisdom and Gene and Ella Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Neely and her parents, Jarod and Viola Yoakum. Pallbearers were John F. Latuperissa, Bill Bolinger, Joe Neely, Curtis Marzinzik, Steve Konczak and Tom Cantrell.

BOYD JONES

Funeral services for Boyd Jones, 77, of Ozone, who passed away Sept. 17, 1997 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, were held Sept. 19 from the chapel of Mt. Olivet Funeral Home in Nashville, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

He was born May 29, 1920 in Nashville, the son of Foster and Harriett Barton Jones.
Mr. Jones was the owner of B.J. Parts Company in Crossville for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps as a second lieutenant.

Survivors include his children, Katherine J. Barton (Fredric Oltsch) of Becket, MA; Boyd Jones Jr. (Barbara) of St. Louis, MO; and Margaret J. Cheesman of Crossville; grandchildren, Katherine and Andrew Cheesman of Crossville; and sisters, Harriett Doermann and Susan Butler, both of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Bilbro Jones.
Pallbearers included his nephews, Edgar Jones, Charles Jones and Morgan Jones, all of Nashville, and Clarke Jones of Colleyville, TX.

GEORGIA JEANETT JONES

Funeral services for Georgia Jeanett Jones, 53, of Dunbar Road, Crossville, who passed away Sept. 19, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Sept. 21 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in the Big Lick Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 20, 1943 in Gainesboro, TN, the daughter of Mae Smith Edwards and George Kernell. Mrs. Jones was a volunteer behavioral health worker.

Survivors include her husband, Alonzo Jones Jr. of Crossville; mother, Mae Edwards of Crossville; daughter, Lisa Jones of Cookeville; family friend, Steve Hill of Cookeville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey Jones and Linda Jones, Gus and Tonda Jones, Tim and Suzanne Jones, Joey and Tracy Jones, all of Cookeville; son Greg Jones of Crossville; sisters, Pam Edwards of Crossville and Helen Edwards of Nashville; brothers, Perry Edwards of Crossville, Luke Edwards of Nashville, Jimmy Edwards, Kenneth Edwards and Wayne Edwards, all of Miamisburg, OH; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Ray Lintin, 46, of Crab Orchard will be held Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at Cumberland Gardens at Lintin's Point, located below the sports park.

Survivors include his wife, Maribeth Lintin of Crab Orchard; daughter, Rayna Leese Lintin of Crab Orchard; mother, Maisie Lintin of Lincoln, England; brother Mike Lintin of Hemel Hempstead, England; sisters, Pat Hatch of Stafford, England and Sue Lintin of Lincoln, England.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the college trust fund for Mr. Lintin's daughter, Rayna Linton.

CORA EDITH EDMONDS BREWER

Funeral services for Cora Edith Edmonds Brewer, 86, who passed away Sept. 8, 1997, will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 11 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with burial in Davis Cemetery.
She was born May 14, 1911, the daughter of Ellis and Rosie Thomas Edmonds.

Mrs. Brewer lived in the Vandever community and was a member of Winesap Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Virgil Brewer of Crossville; daughters, Virginia Brewer Smith and Imogene Brewer Smith, both of Crossville and Mildred Brewer Coleman of Nashville; grandchildren, Dexter Smith, Debbie Smith Wilson, Rhonda Smith Wyatt and Raymond Smith, all of Crossville, and Connie Brown Lucius of Nashville; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Jossie Belle Edmonds Hankins of Pikeville and Maggie Edmonds Myers of Crossville; and brothers, J.L. Edmonds of Graysville, TN and Jerry Edmonds of Crossville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Rosie Thomas Edmonds; grandson, Tommy Brown; brothers, Claude, Auce-Oscar, Hugh and Alfred Edmonds; and sister, Liza Edmonds Curtis.

Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Shannon Smith, Chip Simmons, Brandon Lucius, Travis Wyatt, Bratcher Wilson and Michael Wilson.

WILMA WINONA DUNBAR

Winona B. Dunbar, a civic leader and former member of Pleasant Hill Town Council, died Aug. 27, 1997, in St. Thomas Hospital of Nashville. She was 71.

Born Wilma Winona Hyder on Jan. 21, 1926, in Ravenscroft, TN, Mrs. Dunbar was raised on Sawmill Road in one of the original homes built for the Cumberland Homesteads project during the Great Depression. She was a graduate of the former Homestead High School.

A secretary by trade, she worked for Cumberland County High School and the Cumberland County Welfare Department before taking a position as executive secretary with Camp Nakanawa, a recreational camp for young girls in the Mayland community.

Mrs. Dunbar later moved to St. Louis, MO, to work as an executive secretary for Monsanto Co. She returned to Cumberland County and resumed her work with Camp Nakanawa from 1969 until her retirement. A resident of Pleasant Hill for 29 years, Mrs. Dunbar became active after her retirement in the Cumberland County Neighbors and Newcomers Club, an club dedicated to women as an offshoot of the national Welcome Wagon organization. Her involvement with the club included two years as president, one year as program chairman, and she was a devoted member until her death.

She also belonged to several area bridge clubs and the Big Band Beat Dance Club, and she was second runner-up in the Ms. Senior Cumberland County Pageant in 1991.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Dunbar; her mother, Bonnie Hyder; two daughters, Brenda Schwab of Pulaski and Nanette Britt of Hendersonville; a stepdaughter, Cecil Oman of Albuquerque, NM; two stepsons, Charles Richard Dunbar of Knoxville and Keith Clifton Dunbar of Crossville; two brothers, Bill Hyder of Chattanooga and Dick Hyder of Crossville; four grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services were at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 in First Congregational Church of Crossville with the Rev. Paul Wanter and the Rev. Cecil McFarland officiating. There was a private graveside service.

JAMES CARL GOGGINS

Funeral services for James Carl Goggins, 69, of Dayton, OH, and formerly of the Crawford community of Overton County, who passed away Sept. 2, 1997 in Hospice of Dayton, were held Sept. 6 from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home, with burial in the Good Hope Cemetery in Livingston.

He was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Crawford, TN; the son of Bill and Laura Copeland Goggins.
Mr. Goggins was the owner and operator of Jim's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Dayton for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Sherry Jackson of Layton, UT, and Carla Saunders, Tammy Goggins, and Crystal Goggins, all of Dayton; brother, Glen Goggins of Monterey; sisters, Martha Chilton of Battle Creek, MI, Anna Herrell of Decatur, AL, and Lillian Shumate of Crossville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Laura Copeland Goggins; brother, Clarence Goggins; and sisters, Betty Jean Goggins, Lorene Simmons, Beatrice Hall; and Mildred J. Henry.

She was born March 7, 1927 in Cumberland County; the daughter of Charles and Mildred Pugh Gist. Mrs. Jones had been employed in cafeteria food preparation.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Jack Burgess of Clifty, TN; and brothers, Joe Gist of Lakewood, NJ and Andy Gist of Royce, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary, Cora and Betty Carolyn Gist; and brother, Charles Gist.

She was born Nov. 12, 1961 in Jamestown, TN, the daughter of Hershel and Imogene Dishman Seagraves. She was born May 12, 1914 in White County, the daughter of Jim and Victoria Bumbalough Randolph. Mrs. Bumbalough was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Alene Laurent of Sparta, Clifton Bumbalough of Yakima, WA, Cleadus Bumbalough of McMinnville, TN, Mildred Ann Dyer, Melvin Bumbalough, Steve Bumbalough and Adell Grogan, all of Cookeville; Frank Bumbalough of Franklin, TN, and Glen Bumbalough of White Bluff, TN; brother, L. She was born Jan. 6, 1925 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Wesley and Rena Miller Pugh. Mrs. White was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services for Odis Williams, 76, of the Baker's Crossroads community who passed away Sept. 4, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Sept. 7 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with burial in Mayland Cemetery.

He was born April 29, 1921 in Fentress County, the son of Perry and Cora Conley Williams.
Mr. Williams was a farmer and Freewill Baptist in faith.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Hazel Stafford Williams of Baker's Crossroads; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Donna Williams of Mayland and Larry and Brenda Williams of Plateau Road; son, Ricky Williams of Baker's Crossroads; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Bussell of Brandenton, FL; and brother, Henry Williams of Baker's Crossroads.

She was born April 6, 1913 in Cumberland County, the daughter of James DeRossett and Rosa Turner DeRossett.

Mrs. Pugh was a housewife and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Funeral services for Wayne Page Ward, 76, of Mayberry Street, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 31, 1997, were held Sept. 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. He was born July 27, 1921 in Warsaw, OH, the son of Fred and Eva Chrislip Ward.

Mr. Ward was a pipe fitter and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Glenna Ward of Crossville; daughter, Lois Saunders of Crossville; sons, Jim and Clinton Ward, both of Crossville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Willa Guthrey of Warsaw, OH and Martha Arnold of Nashport, OH.

Pallbearers were Steven Ward, Steve Tabor, Jon Ward, Bob Rogers, Jason Thompson and Terry Allen.

ALAN CHRISTENSEN

Funeral services for Alan Christensen, 71, of the Mayland community, who passed away Aug. 30, 1997 at the Livingston Regional Hospital, were held Sept. 3 from the chapel of Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home in Richmond, IN, with burial in the Earlham Cemetery in Richmond.

He was born March 2, 1926 in Lockwood, WI, the son of Carl and Esther Jensen Christensen.

Mr. Christensen was a retired cost accountant with Natco in Richmond. He was a World War II veteran, a 32-degree Shriner with Murat Temple in Indianapolis, and a member of VFW Post No. 1108.

Funeral services for Lillie Kerley Davis, 94, of Vanderver Rd, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 28, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Aug. 30 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in the Big Lick Cemetery Aug. 31.

She was born April 28, 1903 in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of Emmett Kerley and Zena Selby Kerley. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Davis of Crossville; daughter, Gladys Davis of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Classie and C.H. Christopher; son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Helen Davis; brothers, Paul Kerley of Crossville and Carl Kerley of Kingsport, TN; sister, Dora Wood of Crossville; and sister-in-law Cora Kerley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Zena Selby Kerley; brothers, Oscar Kerley and Theodore Kerley; and sisters, Ida Brown, Pinah Tanner and Malinda Brown.

JAMES V. FLYNN

A memorial service for James V. Flynn of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Aug. 28, 1997, will be held at the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m., with internment in the church's Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Flynn was a graduate of the Henry Ford Trade School in Detroit. He served as a pilot in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant. He was founder, co-owner and president of Metal Work Inc. of Detroit, a sheet metal company, and is survived by his two partners, Byrl Smith and Clifford Sadlier. He was a member of the Cumberland County Elks Lodge No. 2751, and a past officer of the Henry Ford Trade School Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; children, Robert, Donna, Susan and Carolyn; stepchildren, Carol and Dale Alexander; brothers, Thomas, Richard, Donald and Earl; sisters, Betty and Virginia and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Althea Marine Hamby, 82, of Crab Orchard, who passed away Aug. 29, 1997, were held Aug. 31 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in New Home Cemetery.

She was born April 26, 1915 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Joe and Theodora Vickery Wilson. Mrs. Hamby was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, John Hamby of Crossville and James Hamby of Hebbertsburg, TN; daughters, Pam Gray and Irene Bushbaum, both of Hebbertsburg, and Barbara Allen of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy McNeil of Medina, OH, Lillie Harrison of Fairfield Glade, and Jean Campbell of Crossville; and brothers, Herbert and Reed Wilson, both of Fairfield Glade. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Clarence Hamby.

Graveside services for Brack Lee Helton, 69, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 24, 1997, were held Aug. 28 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.

He was born Dec. 5, 1927 in Crossville, the son of David and Eliza Jane Conley Helton.

Mr. Helton was a plumber and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his daughter, Donna Bedlong of North Carolina; brother, Buddy Roscoe of Lawrenceburg, KY; five stepchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Brock Helton; son, Billy Lee Helton; brothers, Melton and Jake Helton; and sisters, Dolly Boston and Hazel Enochs.

LEE LONES OLLICE

Funeral services for Lee Lones Ollice, 84, of Old Mail Road, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 31 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Sept. 3 at Big Mt. Baptist Church in Morgan County, with burial in the Forester Cemetery, Oak Ridge.

He was born Jan. 2, 1913 in Roane County, TN, the son of Willie Ross Ollice and Bessie "Herbert" Ollice. Mr. Ollice was a coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Ollice of Crossville; daughters, Dorothy Davis and Lennis G. Fish, both of Crossville and Glenda F. Campbell of Florida; and sons, Jimmy Lee Ollice of Lake Jim, FL and Edward Ray Ollice, also of Florida, Roy Stanley Maples of Grandview, TN and Warren B. Maples of Crossville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, WIllie and Bessie Ollice, and son Glenn Irvin Ollice.

JOHN WILFRED PENDERGRASS

Funeral Services for John Wilfred Pendergrass, 67, of Highland View East, Crossville, who passed away Aug. 26, 1997 in Cumberland Medical Center, were held Aug. 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in the McInturf Cemetery in Birchwood, TN.

He was born Nov. 21, 1929 in Birchwood, the son of John Clifton Pendergrass and Daisy Jenkins Pendergrass.

Mr. Pendergrass was a retired millwright for General Motors, and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Pendergrass of Crossville; stepdaughter, Leona Wyatt of Crossville; sisters, Nellie Lewis of Flushing, MI, Bertha Sharp of Ringgold, GA, and Patsy Lee of Harrison, TN; brothers, Donald Pendergrass of Birchwood and Mac Pendergrass of Dayton, TN; stepgrandchildren, Jeffrey Jones and Miranda Hurd; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Emily Jones and Michael Hurd.

She was born Feb. 19, 1914, the daughter of Ernest Stone and Isabelle Davis Stone.

Funeral services for Wilma Winona Dunbar, 71, of Pleasant Hill, who passed away Aug. 27, 1997, in St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, will be held Friday, Aug. 29. at 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church, with private graveside services at a later date.

She was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Ravenscroft, TN, the daughter of William S. Hyder and Bonnie Hyder. Mrs. Dunbar was a secretary.

A memorial service for Russell William Goebel, 78, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Aug. 21, 1997, was held Aug. 24 at the Fairfield Glade Community Church.

He was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Oakland City, IN, the son of William and Kathryn Goebel.

Dr. Goebel was a retired dentist. He was a graduate of Indiana University Dental School, and practiced dentistry in Fort Wayne, IN, as a member of the dental staff with the VA Hospital there. He was a member of Fairfield Glade Community Church. He was also a member of the Cumberland County Elks and Alhambra Temple of Fairfield Glade Lions Club, founder of High Noon Masonic Lodge, member of the national board of directors of the United Cancer Council, member of the American Dental Association and Acacia and Delta Sigma Delta fraternities.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ginny Goebel; daughter, Nancy Goebel of Marion, IN; sons, Ted Goebel of Chesterton, IN, and William Goebel of Bowlingbrook, IL; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was born May 15, 1947 in Crossville, the son of Guy Thomas Sapp and Ruth Virginia Wagner Sapp. Mr. Sapp was an electrician.
