OLIVE V. SINCLAIR
Miss Olive V. Sinclair of the Uplands community in Pleasant Hill passed away Nov. 5, 1996, at the remarkable age of 109.
Miss Sinclair was born July 23, 1887, in Parkdale, Ontario, Canada. Her family moved to Port Huron, Mich., when she was 5. For much of her life she maintained a home in Port Huron to which she returned in the summers.
After two years at Olivet College in Michigan, she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Chicago and the University of Michigan. She also did graduate work at the University of Chicago, the University of Washington and Cambridge University in England. For 35 years she was a teacher in Michigan, Idaho, West Virginia and at Berea College in Kentucky where she taught English and history. Her college teaching often involved directing student dramatics and advising yearbook staffs. She retired in 1948, upon which, she enjoyed traveling, choosing a different state each year to get acquainted with America.
In Port Huron she was active in First Congregational Church and in the Legion of Women Voters. The American Association of University Women awarded her a life membership in 1976 for her 50 years of active service in that organization. She had been a member of the Uplands community since 1968.
Survivors include her grandniece, Elisabeth Lampert of California; grandnephew, John Ogden of Connecticut; and a host of friends in both Pleasant Hill and Michigan.
The deceased donated her body to Vanderbilt University. At the request of the deceased, there will be no service.

Memorial services for Patricia U. Behlau, 63, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Friday Nov. 8,1996 at Hospice of Dayton, will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 481 Snead Drive. Pastor Paul Kehnle will officiate.
Mrs. Behlau was an established Avon lady for 14 years. She was an avid golfer having won several local tournaments and was Ladies Club champion of Homestead Golf Course for four years. She participated in several bridge clubs and dance clubs in Dayton and Fairfield Glade and a member of the Dayton Liederkranz Turner Club.
She was the beloved wife of Paul for 41 years, devoted mother to Wayne and Linda of Chicago, and Warren and wife Traci of Chattanooga and proud grandmother of Paul Warren Behlau of Chattanooga; daughter-in-law to Grytha Drerup and friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Behlau's wish was to be cremated and interned in Fairfield Glade.
The family will greet friends following the service. It is the families request, rather than flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of Cumberland County or Christ Lutheran Church.

She was a homemaker and a waitress in the former Bergoff Cafe, Rochester, Ind. She was a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Lee Brown on Jan. 16, 1965. Survivors include her husband, Richard C. Rev. Homer A. Cate, former pastor of Crossville First Baptist Church, passed away Nov. 19, 1996 in Knoxville.
He was pastor from 1939-1942. It was under his leadership that the present church was constructed.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Jane Cate.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Edna Palmer Cate; and son, Judge H. David Cate.

HOWARD H. GARVEY
Mr. Howard H. Garvey, born July 12, 1926 in Knoxville, Tenn., lived in and around the Nashville area before retiring to San Juan, Puerto Rico and finally Fairfield Glade.
While in the Nashville area, he and his wife managed The Sportsman Store and later Marineland. He was an avid hunter, golfer and sportsman.
He played football at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville and baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals farm club.
For the past seven years he worked as a ranger and starter at golf courses in the Fairfield Glade-Crossville area.
He suffered a massive heart attack Friday, Nov. 15, while working on his property.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; two daughters, Paula Davenport and Rita Harman, and husband Randall; and two grandchildren, Meredith and Kyle Harman.
At the request of the decease, there will be no service.

Memorial services for Leslie Anne Coughenour, 44, of Richmond, Va., who passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 3, were conducted Sunday, Nov. 10 from the Chapel of Cannon Memorial, University of Richmond. Rev. Rhonda VanDyke Colby officiated.
Ms. Coughenour was a native of Pittsburgh, Penn., and she had been a resident of Richmond for 14 years. She was employed as an attorney for Carpenter and Woodward, P.C. She received her jurus doctorate from University of Richmond Law School and was president of the Women's Attorney Association, Girl Scouts, past president of her homeowners association and a member of a local investment club.
She is survived by her parents, Beth and Thomas Coughenour of Fairfield Glade; her life partner; brothers, David K. Coughenour and Eric Coughenour; and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Elwood Cole, 57, of Crossville, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, were conducted Friday, Nov. 8 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with interment at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bill Roberts and Russell Honeycutt officiated.

Mr. Cole was born June 11, 1939 in Tennessee. He was a painter.

Mr. McNeal was born April 1, 1920 in Overton County to J.B. and Mary Alice Swallows McNeal. Bro. McNeal was employed at the Turner Day and Woolworth Handle Corporation for 34 years and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a preacher for many years, serving as Pastor of Dorton Baptist Church for 17 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera McNeal and son, Delbert McNeal.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice McNeal; daughter, Sue Delk; stepdaughters, Pat Cline and Charlotte Goodwin; and stepson, Tim Green, all of Crossville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Fife of Cookeville; brothers, Doyle McNeal and Clifford McNeal, both of Crossville, Charles McNeal of Covington, La., and Boyd and Burton McNeal, both of Crossville; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Patton of Crossville.

WILLIAM BERNARD IRWIN
Funeral services for William Bernard Irwin, 77, of Mayland, who passed away Nov. 5, 1996, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today (Nov. 8) in Burris Funeral Home, with interment at Mayland Cemetery. The Rev. Kirk Nielson and the Rev. Mike Reagan will officiate.
Mr. Irwin was born April 10, 1910, in Canada. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Crossville Exchange Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marceline Irwin of Crossville; a son, William John Irwin of Decatur, Ala.; a brother, Ronald Irwin of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Nielsen of Asheville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
HELEN BULLARD KRECHNIAK
Memorial services for Helen Bullard Krechniak, 94, of Ozone and Pleasant Hill, who passed away Oct. 31, 1996, were conducted Nov. 3 in First Congregational Church on Lantana Road. The Rev. Cecil McFarland officiated and Mrs. Bullard's daughter, Manya Marshall, led those in attendance to remember their friendship with Mrs. Bullard.
Mrs. Bullard was born Aug. 15, 1902, in Elgin, Ill., to Minnie Cook Bullard and Ethan Bullard. She was director of the Crossville Play Center (built and funded by Cosby Harrison) in the early 1950's. She helped Dr. May Wharton write her autobiography, Doctor Woman of the Cumberlands, and, with her husband, Joseph Marshall Krechniak (deceased), who wrote Cumberland County's First Hundred Years for the Centennial celebration in 1956.
She made hand carved wooden dolls under the name "Holly Dolls" and was President of the Federation of Doll Clubs and Founder and President of the National Institute of American Doll Artists (NIADA) and served as editor of the magazines of both these organizations. She wrote Crafts and Craftsmen of Tennessee Mountains, American Doll Artists, American Doll Artists Volume II, Faith Wick, the Artist and Her Dolls, Dorothy Heizer, the Artists and Her Dolls, My People in Wood, and the update of the Cumberland County book. Mrs. Bullard was a recognized sculptor and examples of her work may be seen at Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville Elementary School, and the Oak Ridge Children's Museum.
Survivors include her daughters, Manya Marshall of Ozone, Anne Louise Rhorke Netherton (Mrs. Ross) of Falls Church, Va., Barbara Rhorke Gundmundson; granddaughters, Mariska K. Riggs and husband, Donald W. Riggs, Holly and Martha Gunmundson,and Nancy Netherton; grandson, Richard Bruce Netherton; great grandson, Benjamin P. Riggs; and a number of great grandchildren.
A scholarship in the arts to be awarded a graduating senior at Cumberland County High School has been set up in lieu of flowers and contributions to it may be made at any First National Bank branch.

Mr. Thetford was born in Belleville, N.J. After attending Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn., he worked in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge area for several years before making his home in Kingsport, Tenn., where he sold insurance for more than 30 years. After retirement, he moved to Lake Tansi Village.
Mr. Thetford was past president of the Life Underwriters Club in Kingsport, as well as a past member of the Kingsport Jaycees. Leighton served as the town Santa in 1952, making the annual trip to Virginia and returning to Kingsport for the big Santa parade in downtown Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James V. and Edna L. Slocum Thetford; and daughter, Patricia Ann Robinson.

Mr. Cunningham was born Dec. 28, 1929 in Buffalo, N.Y., to Ivan and Gladys Cunningham. He married June Mildenberger on Aug. 25, 1956.
He retired to Fairfield Glade in 1992 after 41 years of service with Niagra-Mohawk Power Corporation of Buffalo. He was an active member of the Fairfield Glade Rotary Club, the Plateau Writers, the Lifetime Learning Project and the Fisherman's Club. He also served on the Parish Council and Lector as a devoted member of his parish.
Survivors include his wife, June of Fairfield Glade; daughters, Kathleen of New York, N.Y., and Susan (Peter) Weir of Golden, Co.; four brothers; one sister; and a great host of friends.

Mrs. Reagan was born Dec. 13, 1900 in Fentress County to Sam and Tennessee King Greer. She was a housewife and member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frazier Reagan; sisters, Grace Richardson, Jane Compton, Bertha Taylor and Sadie Greer; brothers, Lewis, Thomas, Jim, Porter and Clarence Shirley Greer. Survivors include her son, Benny Reagan of Nashville; grandchildren, Karen Phillips and Kelly Reagan, both of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Shelby Reagan, Edward Phillips and Michelle Phillips, all of Nashville; three nieces and three nephews.
Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
ANNE BELLE STEVENS
Funeral services for Anne Belle Stevens, 78, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 16, 1996, were conducted Aug. 18 from Crossville Memorial Chapel with interment at Hyder Cemetery. Bill McCuarry officiated.
Pallbearers were Paul Taber, Johnnie Webb, Jack Webb, Don Yates, Steve Lomesky and Cecil Potter. Mrs. Stevens was born April 22, 1918 in Helenburg, Ind., to William and Sara Hagewood Hawley. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Stevens.
Survivors include her sister, Dorcas Webb of Crossville; grandsons, Michael J. Stevens of North Huntington, Pa., and Geogory Stevens of Pompano Beach, Fla.; granddaughters, Patricia McCullen of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Kimberly M. Weathers of Ft. Lauderville, Fla., and Pamela O. Chieffo of Claytomont, Del.
