Maurice G. Bellville
Sept. 11, 1935 - Sept.

Maurice Garfield Bellville passed away Sept. 21, 2004. Memorial
services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Cumberland
Worship Center. Bro. Linus Vaughn will be officiating.
Mr. Bellville was born in the hospital in Omar, MI, and lived
in Whittemore with the rest of his family until he married Leaberta
Townsend on April 15, 1956. He was employed by the Michigan State
Highway Department and the family was moved around the state
until he decided to answer a job call to Alaska. The family moved
up there for a two-year contract and stayed 30.
He enjoyed working with wood and his special hobby was making
canes from the stunted diamond willow trees along the banks of
the Yukon river, where he had his last bridge assignment. He
would spend many months working on one and then applying many
layers of clear shellac. He loved telling people about the wood
and how it grew. He finished one for himself during his illness
and used it the last few months. It was always the main topic
of conversation. The Yukon River Bridge was built to span the
mighty river to carry the oil pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdeze.
Mr. Bellville took early retirement at age 51, and he and Leaberta
traveled many places and enjoyed several cruises. They decided
they wanted to live in an area with a more temperate climate
and after much research and traveling, he chose Fairfield Glade
as their new home and have been there for nearly 12 years. His
other pastimes were his golf group, The Grady Bunch, and the
Barbershop Singing Society that he'd been a member of for many
years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bellville; and
mother, Erma Bellville, both of Whittemore, MI.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Leaberta; his son, Bryan,
and his wife, Pang, of Wasilla, AK; their son, Stephen, and his
wife, Liz (in the Marines) and son David and wife Sarah of Anchorage.
His daughter Laurice Kirkland and husband Lonnie and Laurice's
daughter, Angela Nault, both of Crossville. His brother, Clayton
and wife, Kaye of Hale, MI; sister, Jeanette Bronson and husband
Jerry of Cheyboygan, MI; and sister, Carole Carrick of Bay City,
MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to your
favorite charity be made in Maurice Bellville's name and memory.
