Mabel H. Barnwell

Mabel Hamby Barnwell, 88, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 21,
2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 23 at Pine Grove Church
of God of Prophecy. The Rev. Jeff Rice and Pastor Omer Lawson
officiated. Burial was in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Barnwell was born April 26, 1917 in Cumberland County, the
daughter of Julius Oscar and Ruth Tollett Hamby.
She retired as a kindergarten teaching assistant and was a member
of Pine Grove Church of God Prophecy. She was also a member of
the Ladies Missionary Group at her church which she loved so
much. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and knitting.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Doyle and George
Ann Barnwell, Aubrey and Lozena Barnwell and Dwight Barnwell,
all of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Alton
Tabor of Crossville; sister, Melba Barnwell of Crossville; grandchildren,
Gregory Barnwell, Marc Barnwell, Robin Elmore, Britton Tabor,
Stan Tabor, Andrew Barnwell and Allison Gernt; and great-grandchildren,
Portia and Tandi Barnwell, Casey and Markie Barnwell, Brandon
Elmore, Cody Elmore, Maci and Noah Gernt and Courtney and Zach
Barnwell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Lon Barnwell; brother, Oscar Hamby; and sisters, Madalyn
Bryson, Mildred Cox, Martha Chilikos and Marjorie Elmore.
Pallbearers were Greg Barnwell, Marc Barnwell, Britton Tabor,
Stan Tabor, Andrew Barnwell, Scott Elmore and Derek Gernt.
Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Elmore, Cody Elmore, Casey
Barnwell, Zach Barnwell and Noah Gernt.

Kathryn J. Goss
Nov. 20, 2005
Kathryn Julia (Kersey) Goss of Fairfield Glade passed away Nov.
20, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 23 at St. Francis
of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Moser officiating.
Burial will be held at noon Dec. 5 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery
in Cincinnati, OH.
Mrs. Goss loved her family and her profession as a nurse. She
was a graduate of the Massachusetts General Hospital of Anesthesia
and practiced in Lynn, MA, before moving to Cincinnati, OH. She
then concentrated on raising four children before returning to
the nursing profession, working 18 years in the health unit at
Xavier University and then doing part-time industrial nursing.
She enjoyed very much her volunteer work as a docent at the Taft
Museum, enjoyed theatricals and was an avid traveler.
Survivors include her husband, William Robert Goss Sr. of Fairfield
Glade; son, William "Bill" Goss Jr. of Pawley's Island,
SC; daughters, Nancy Palmer of Fairfield Glade, Elizabeth Kearney
of Atlanta, GA and Cathleen Maloney of Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (White) Kersey
and George Kersey; and sister, Anne Ulban.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 East Adams Street, Crossville,
TN 38555 or to a charity of one's choice.

Mary Pannuto, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Nov. 24, 2005.
No services are planned at this time.
Mrs. Pannuto was born July 7, 1926 in Detroit, MI, the daughter
of Edward and Kathleen Morgan Enlow.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
She was an avid gardener and liked to play golf. She also loved
to cook.
Survivors include her husband, John Pannuto of Fairfield Glade;
sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Pannuto of Rochester,
MI, Tom and Audrey Pannuto of Berkley, MI and Mike and Michelle
Pannuto of Sterling Heights, MI; daughters and sons-in-law, Marge
and Ron Heck of White Lake, MI and Patricia Pannuto and Rick
Strobel of Germantown, MD; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family has respectfully asked that donations be made to Hospice
of Cumberland County.

Edna Pearl Kerley passed away Nov. 16, 2005. Funeral services
were conducted Nov. 19 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial
Funeral Home, with burial in Davis Cemetery.
Mrs. Kerley was born Sept. 12, 1920 to the late John T. Myers
and Ethel Mae Pugh Myers.
She married the late Roger Kerley Dec. 24, 1938.
She was a member of the Winesap Freewill Baptist Church and a
resident of Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill for the past
five months.
"Miss Pearl," as she was so commonly known, was a very
dear wife, mother, foster mother, a dedicated Christian and a
loyal and royal friend to one and all. Her sweet little smile
won the love and hearts of everyone who came in contact with
her.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, neighbors and
the staff who so willingly took her under their wings and gave
to her such great care.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Lee Dyer Smith; son and
daughter-in-law, Orland Roger and Pat Kerley; grandchildren,
Carla Jan Hankins, Anthony Harold (Tony) Dyer and Krista Kerley
Randolph; great-grandchildren, Jody Smith, Misty Smith Selby,
Kerry Smith and Rainey Randolph; three step-great-grandchildren;
great-great-grandchildren, Alli and Josi Smith; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson and
two infant sisters.
Pallbearers were Gary Hankins, Jan Hankins, Krista Randolph,
Jody Smith, Tommy Selby and Kerry Smith.

Lola Jean (Pugh) Reagan, 63, of Crossville, passed away Nov.
21, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 23 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Brown officiating. Interment
was in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Reagan was born July 5, 1942 in Barberton, OH, the daughter
of Ruby Bell (Fields) and Jesse Alonzo Pugh.
She was a line worker at Delbar Products and a member of the
Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Benard Reagan of Crossville; daughter
and son-in-law, Vickie and Tim Sexton of Crossville; sons and
daughter-in-law, Ronald and Twana Reagan of Crossville and Michael
Reagan of Crossville; brothers, Jerry Pugh, Paul Pugh and Jimmy
Pugh of Crossville; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
brother, Henry Pugh; and sister, Dorothy Stamps.

Bonnie A. "Dennis" Shields, 67, of Fairfield Glade,
passed away Nov. 22, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov.
28 at Sheridan Funeral Home in Lancaster, OH, with interment
in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Shields was born Oct. 15, 1938 in Lancaster, OH.
She came to Tennessee in 2002 and was a member of the Christian
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Shields; sons, Michael, Bobby,
Tracy and Bill; daughters, Robyn and Stephanie; mother, Margaret
C. Dennis of Fairfield Glade; sisters, Andrea Owen and Charlotte
Davis; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; aunts, Dorothy
Spangler and Mary Julian; uncle, Charles Quirk; and many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmo Dennis; daughter,
Joy; and brother, Larry Dennis.

Mary Ellen Turner, 74, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 23, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Nov. 26 from the chapel of Crossville
Memorial Funeral Home, with family members delivering a eulogy.
Music was provided by grandson Nathaniel Daffinee and burial
was in Turner Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner was born April 9, 1931 in Chevrolet, KY, the daughter
of Frank Ellred Norris and Leda Ellen Norris.
She was a factory worker before retiring.

M.L. Deck, 63, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 14, 2005. Funeral
services were conducted Nov. 17 from the chapel of Hood Funeral
Home, with Bro. Donald Wattenbarger officiating. Special music
was by Pat Studer. Burial was in Woody Cemetery.
Mr. Deck was born Jan. 15, 1942 in Cumberland County, the son
of Charlie and Hazel Brown Deck.
He was a timber cutter and loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Teresa
Deck of Crossville; brothers, Gerald Deck, Claude Deck, Melvin

Flonnie C. Crabtree Duncan, 85, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday,
Nov. 15, 2005 in Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown.
Funeral services were conducted Nov. 17, from the chapel of Jennings
Funeral Home of Jamestown, with Bro. Sammie Dunford, Bro. Ray
Voiles and Bro. Clifford Carpenter officiating. Burial was at
Fentress Memory Gardens, Allardt.
Mrs. Duncan was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Scott County, she was
a member of Honey Creek United Baptist Church. She was retired
from Jamestown Shirt Factory after more than 30 years of service,
and she was well known as a devout Christian and a loving, devoted
wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Brenda
Duncan and James M. Duncan, all of Jamestown, and Raymond F.
Duncan Sr. of Morgan County; daughter and son-in-law, Lola and
Gary Voiles of Jamestown; son-in-law, Howard Terry of Jamestown;

Gladys Hunnicutt, 87, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 20, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Nov. 23 from Faith Baptist Church,
with Bro. Bobby Clark officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon
Cemetery in Burrville.
Mrs. Hunnicutt was born Dec. 30, 1917 in Jefferson City, TN.
She was a devout Christian lady and a member of Faith Baptist
Church. She will join her husband, Henry Hunnicutt, who passed
away in 1988.
She was a wonderful lady who loved her family, including her
church family, with all her heart. Her joyful presence will be
greatly missed by family and friends, but she is now enjoying
eternal presence with her Lord.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Ann
Hunnicutt of Gramercy, LA, William and Nadine Hunnicutt of Crossville,
John and Ginger Hunnicutt of Crossville and Henry Hunnicutt of

Tony Andrew Selby Sr., 65, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Nov.
21, 2005. Graveside services were conducted Nov. 22 from Selby
Family Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Kerley officiating.
Mr. Selby was born Aug. 28, 1940 in White County, the son of
Coin Dee Selby and Tennessee Lewis Selby.
He was a craftsman who made wood carvings of birds and animals.
Survivors include his sons, Andy Selby, Terry Selby and Darrell
Selby; daughters, Joy Selby McGuire, Teresa Selby and Misty Selby;
grandchildren, Misty Lewis, Cody Sims, Michael Parrish, Kyle
Selby, Austin Selby, Shawn Selby, Josh Selby and Jason Lawson;
and great-granchildren, Dion Michael Lewis and Dyson Shawn Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ridley Mitchell Smith Jr., 74, of Monterey, passed away Nov.
17, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 21 from the chapel
of Hood Funeral Home, with Pastor Joe Blevins officiating. Burial
was in Crossville City Cemetery. Full military honors were given
with the Veterans Honor Guard serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 15, 1930 in Cumberland County, the son
of Ridley Mitchell Sr. and Frances Louise Dixon Smith.
He was retired as a construction laborer with Tennessee Valley
Authority and was a member of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing
and loved to hunt.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sonya
Smith of Clarkrange; daughter, Deborah Bennett of Columbus, OH;
brother, Arthur Smith of Crossville; a half-sister; grandchildren,
Randy Smith Jr., David Smith, Michelle Baier and husband Richie
and Crystal Bennett; and four great-grandchildren.

Peggy (Underwood) Walker, 62, passed away Nov. 21, 2005. Funeral
services were conducted Nov. 23 from the chapel of Pikeville
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doyle Ashburn officiating. Burial
was in Brushy Cemetery, followed by a white dove release.
Mrs. Walker was employed by La-Z-Boy and was a member of the
Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Walker; son, Michael (Lindy)
Walker; grandsons, Avery, Keelan and Trace Walker; sister, Wanda
(Dewey) Kerley, all of Pikeville; brothers, Tommy (Carolyn) Underwood

Ethel P. Wheeler

Ethel Pearl Wheeler, 90, a lifelong resident of Crab Orchard,
passed away Nov. 20, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov.
22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Danny Smith
and Dr. John Oldham officiating. Graveside services were conducted
Nov. 23 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Wheeler was an avid, dedicated homemaker and an active member
and leader in Farm Bureau Women and U.T. Extension Home Demonstration
Club Activities for many years. She served as a member of the
Cumberland County Agricultural Committee and was recently recognized
and honored as the longest living member of the Crab Orchard
Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, R.L. "Lavern"
Wheeler; daughter, Patricia Oldham of Knoxville; son and daughters-in-law,
Bob Wheeler of Crab Orchard, Dan and Carol Wheeler of Columbia,
TN and Bill and Kay Wheeler of Crossville; grandchildren, Sandy
Whitson, Barbara Thompson, Jeanie Eldridge and Dale Wheeler of
Crossville, Gina Dunlap and Wayne Oldham of Knoxville, John Oldham
of Chattanooga, Jim Wheeler of Johnson City, David Wheeler of
Bowling Green, KY and Kelly Polk of Aubrey, TX; 21 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nora Gang;
brothers, Johnny, Ben, Bill, Clarence, Frank and Fred Gang; sister,
Gladys Hughs; and son-in-law, Malcolm Oldham.

David Wheeler and Dale Wheeler; and great-grandsons, Ben Whitson,
Cub Whitson and James Eldridge.

Edna Una Myers Christian, 78, of Crossville, passed away Nov.
17, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 20 from the chapel
of Putnam-Reed Funeral Home of Pikeville. Burial was in Christian
Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Christian was born in Bledsoe County, where she lived for
27 years and ran a grocery store in the Dill community before
moving to the Winesap community in Cumberland County in 1955.
While raising four kids, she also worked in the textile factory.
She loved to sew and make things. She was a wonderful cook and
housekeeper. If you visited with her, she always wanted to cook
something for you. She loved flowers and working in her yard.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed
by all.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Wesley Christian;
sons, Thomas (Paulette) Christian and Gerald (Faye) Christian,
all of Crossville; daughters, Kathleen (Floyd) Burgess of Crossville
and Nyla Warren of Mt. Juliet; grandchildren, Chuck and Lynn
Burgess, Scott and Steve Christian, Donna Hastings, Tammy Manier,
Sherry Sisco, Brian and Kevin Warren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. and Annie Dill
Myers; granddaughter, LeAnn Burgess Bilbrey; son-in-law, David
Warren; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Clinton "Dough" Gunter, 70, of Vermilion, OH, passed
away Nov. 18, 2005 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph,
Lorain. Funeral services were conducted at the Riddle Funeral
Home of Vermilion, OH, Nov. 21. The Reverend Jim Shaffder, associate
pastor of the Church of God, Elyria, OH officiated. Interment
followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
Mr. Gunter was born April 1, 1935 in Crossville, TN. He lived
in Vermilion for 13 years, moving from Elyria.
He worked as a maintenance man in Elyria for Lorain Metropolitan
Housing Authority, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed flea markets,
woodworking and making people laugh.
Survivors include his wife, Jean (Krebs) Gunter; sons, Billie

music by Victory Bluegrass.
Mrs. Hargis was born July 23, 1925 in Overton County, the daughter
of Ambrose and Ollie House Murphy.
She was a homemaker and a member of Gospel Temple.
Survivors include her sons, Earl Hargis and Gary Hargis; daughters,
Lucille Lewis, Karolyn Reagan, Linda Burgess and Kathy Tollett;
19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Ruben Hargis; son, Preston Hargis; brothers, Troy, Marvin,
Walter, Martin, Bedford, Aubrey, Charlie, Roscoe, Fred, Robert,

Alva Hollis Hawn, 58, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 31, 2005.
A time of remembrance was held Nov. 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home.
Mr. Hawn was born Nov. 23, 1946 in Crossville, the son of Myrtle
(Turner) and James Clifton Hawn.
He was a member of slate springs Baptist Church and director
of environmental services at Cumberland Medical Center. He served
in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Golda (Copeland) Hawn of Crossville;
sons, Scott A. Hawn of Crossville and Timothy C. Hawn of Fall
Creek Falls, TN; grandsons, Timothy Hawn and Thomas Hawn; and
brothers, Jesse Hawn, Terry Hawn and James Hawn, all of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother,
Larry Hawn.

John T. Matthews

John Timothy "Tim" Matthews, 64, passed away Nov. 14,
2005 in Caliente, Nevada. He was born on November 18, 1940 in
Wade, North Carolina.
Mr. Matthews graduated from Central High School in Wade, North
Carolina where he played basketball. He spent 24 years in the
United States Air Force and as a Vietnam veteran, had two tours
of duty with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds from 1971
to 1973 and 1979 to 1981. After retiring as a master sergeant,
he continued service to his country working for Northrop Grumman
at the Nevada Test Site until the time of his death.
Tim had been a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada for 15 years. From
1991 until his death, he had lived in Rachel, Nevada, where his
life-long love of auto racing was fulfilled as a car builder
and driver of his own car for Tim Matthews Racing Team. He was
an active member of the NHRA as a professional, Pro-Stock competitor
at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine of Las Vegas,
Nevada; children, Chris and Michelle, also of Las Vegas, as well
as his brother, Jackie Matthews of Crossville, TN; a nephew and
two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, J.T. Matthews
Jr. and Madolin McPhail Matthews, both of Wade, North Carolina.
He was dearly loved by his wife, children, family and many close
friends.
"He left us far too soon. Timmy, we will miss you every
day of our lives."

Ruby Bozenko, the Grand Queen of the Tansi Tarts, has gone to
be with her "King."
She left behind three daughters, Donna Pluff Ferchen, Maureen
Stead and Grace Sweet, who were by her side; six grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; and a multitude of friends.
There will be a celebration of her life from 5-7 p.m. on Monday,
Nov. 21, at the community center in Tansi. All of her Red Hat
friends and gentlemen friends are invited.

J.W. Smith, 67, of Peru, IN, passed away Nov. 11, 2005. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Hood Funeral
Home in Crossville, with Pastor Tom Shelton and Pastor Randy
Jeffers officiating. Burial with full military honors will be
held at Crossville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held after
9 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 18, 1937 in Knoxville, the son of James
and Eileen Wallace Smith.
He was a retired police officer with the Elgin, IL police department.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he participated in the Sinai Peninsula
Operation. His decorations include National Defense Medal and
Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church
of Fairfield Glade, the National Rifle Association, U.S. Marine
Corps Association and the Sportsman Club of Fairfield Glade.
He was an alumnus of the Southern Police Institute of Kentucky.
He married Freda Blankenship on Jan. 20, 1959.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Weston Smith
of Peru, IN and Eric and Jean Smith of Des Moines, IA; and grandchildren,
Jennifer Smith, Eric J. Smith, Amanda Smith, Faith Smith and
Austin Smith.

Mrs. Bourne was born in Chester, SC. She moved to this area from
Florida in 1983.

Lantana Cemetery.
Mrs. Grissom was born Oct. 23, 1910, in Crossville, the daughter
of Myrtle (McDowell) and Ernest Fields.
Prior to retirement, she was employed as an administrative secretary
to the chairman and CEO of Chattanooga Federal Savings and Loan.
She also taught evening classes at the Kirkman Vocational School.
She and her husband, Johnny Grissom, were among the first members
of the White Oak Church of Christ after it was founded.
She is survived by her pet and faithful companion, Regis, along
with a number of nieces and nephews and countless friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Johnny T. Grissom; brothers, Emmett Fields, Everett
Fields and Eugene Fields; and sisters, Ollie Ottinger, Joyce
Williams, Gladys Burnett and Laura Beyer.

Thomas Eugene Williams, 81, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct.
24, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday,
Nov. 11, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield
Glade with Father Thomas Moser officiating. Full military honors
will be rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 25, 1924 in Detroit, MI, the son
of Nell Genieve (McDonald) and Edward H. Williams.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He
retired from the restaurant business in Michigan 17 years ago.
He owned several bars and restaurants in the metropolitan area
of Detroit, MI. He was active in Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce,
Knights of Columbus and Hospice.
He established the Hospice Auxiliary of Cumberland County in
1992 and proudly served as fund-raising chairman for many years.
He served his country in World War II as an infantryman and saw
live combat in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded several medals,
including the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret (Gasvoda)
Williams of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas
J. and Nancy Williams of Scottsdale, AZ, Edward H. Williams of
Cave Creek, AZ, Robert F. Williams of Dallas, TX and son and
daughter-in-law, Donald F. and Julia Williams of Granite Bay,

Donald Jackson of Farmington Hills, MI; sister and brother-in-law,

Alfred "Al" Arthur Norris, 72, of Fairfield Glade,

Mr. Norris was born Feb. 21, 1933 in Detroit, MI, the son of
Alfred Dell and Vella Elizabeth Becker Norris.
He was retired as a safety technician with the Chrysler Corp.
and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during Korea.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Elks.
He enjoyed working with the other Elks visiting the VA Hospital.
He also liked to bowl and fish. He especially loved taking cruises
to the Caribbean. He was a great husband and father and was loved
by all.

Mrs. Burgess was born March 28, 1919 in Bledsoe County, TN, the

Attending the Friday night singing at Hales Chapel was something
she looked forward to and greatly enjoyed. She was a very busy
and talented lady with many hobbies, some of which were quilting,
crocheting, drying fruit and making her delicious fried apple
pies. She loved having company and sitting on the front porch
or talking on the phone to all her friends. She was a wonderful
mother and grandmother who touched the lives of many and she
will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mr. Christensen was born June 30, 1934 in Detroit, MI, the son

Glade. He was in management at East Jordon Iron Works before
retiring. He also served in the Army Air Corps during the Korean
Conflict.

Mrs. Gore was born in Clintwood, VA, the daughter of the late
Ivel and Edna Sykes Hill. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Kim Abell.
She had been employed for 36 years with Ford Motor Company as
a private executive secretary to one of Ford's plant managers.
She was a member of the Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church.
An avid reader of the Bible, she read the Bible every night before
bed. She enjoyed many church activities, was a golfer, tennis
player and bridge player.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Gore of Crossville; son-in-law,
Mark Abell of Stuart, FL; two step-granddaughters, Jessica Abell
and Amanda Abell, both of Stuart, FL; three sisters, Lucille

Frank "Larry" Matthews, 71, of Fairfield Glade, passed
away Oct. 19, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 5, at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church,
with the Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiating.
Mr. Matthews was born Jan. 12, 1934 in Elmira, NY, the son of
Vera A. (Whiting) and Frank Lawrence Matthews Jr.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was athletic director, teacher and basketball coach at Notre
Dame High School in Elmira, NY and University School of Nashville
for many years before retiring. He was also responsible for founding
a prep basketball program at Hargrave Military Academy of Chatham,
VA, for fifth-year student athletes who needed academic guidance
or to refine their basketball skills. They played major college
teams from the Southeast and many of his players went to Division
I colleges the next year. During his three years as the head
coach, he was 91-15. He loved to teach and coach and made a positive
difference in many young men's lives.
He was also a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist
Church.

Edgar Harrison Rice, 76, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 30,
2005. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 from the
chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Newbern, TN. The Rev. Waymon
Hogue will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in
Newbern.
Mr. Rice was born April 8, 1929 in Newbern, TN, the son of Millie
Josephine (Douglas) Rice and Walter Harrison Rice.
He was a retired ironwork for American Bridge in Gary, IN, Local
#395. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and reached
the rank of sergeant. He lived in Northwest Indiana for 49 years
before relocating back to Tennessee. When in Indiana, he was
a member of the Curtis Creek Golf League and a member of the
Masonic Lodge. In Tennessee, Mr. Rice was an active member of
the Lake Tansi Golf League, Couples League and "The Bandits."
He enjoyed golfing and fishing and loved spending time with his
family.
Survivors include his wife, Dardis L. (Robbins) Rice of Crossville,
whom he married on April 3, 1954 in Crown Point, IN; daughter,
Deborah L. Rice and husband Robert of Crossville; son, Edgar
C. Rice and wife Marica of Springfield, TN; sisters, Peggy Davis
and husband Arvel of Newbern, TN and Velma Rice Hair of Winnsboro,
TX; brothers, Alvin Rice and wife Cherrye of Schererville, IN
and Howard Rice and wife Frances of Lake City, FL; brother- and
sister-in-law, W.C. and Susie Dyer of Griffith, IN; brother-in-law,
Steve Robbins of Griffith, IN; grandchildren, Thomas C. and Cassandra
Royal of Fishers, IN, Desiree (Royal) and Jason Adams of Glasgow,
KY, Victoria (Traicoff) Hill of Crossville, and Jennifer Rice
and Brandon Rice, both of Springfield, TN; and great-grandchildren,
Brianna L. Adams, Justin M. Adams and Kenneth Harrison Royal,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister,
Louise Oleson; and brothers, Douglas Rice and G.W. Rice.

Velery Jean (Shore) Ryerson, 58, of Crossville, passed away Oct.
20, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 22 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Kirby officiating.
Interment was in Fentress County Memory Gardens in Jamestown.
Mrs. Ryerson was born March 17, 1947 in Cannelton, IN, the daughter
of Catherine (Young) and Roy Shore.
Survivors include her daughters, Star Bilbrey of Crossville,
Paula Iles of Pleasant Hill, Capri Meyer of Crossville, Holly
Trobaugh of Selina and Teella Insco of Crossville; sons, Robert
Insco of Jamestown, Ghari Insco of Clarkrange, Rodney Insco of
Clarkrange, Tobee Insco of Clarkrange, Corbin Insco of Clarkrange,
Harlin Insco of Gordonsville, Glenn Insco of Crossville and Darrenn
Insco of Clarkrange; mother, Catherine (Young) Shore of Illinois;
brothers, Tommy Shore of Illinois and Charles Shore of Crossville;
and sisters, Rose Ney and Ethel Pesch of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Insco and William
Ryerson; father, Roy Shore; son, Halie Insco; sister, Bonnie
Burgess; brother, Herman Shore; and brother-in-law, Plummer J.

Carolyn Sue Simoneau, 41, of Crossville, formerly of Jamestown,
passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005. Funeral services were conducted
Oct. 19 from the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home, with burial
in the Allardt Cemetery. The Rev. Chester Rhood officiated.
Ms. Simoneau was born Feb. 14, 1964 in Jamestown, TN, the daughter
of Lois (Smith) Vanderhoof of Crossville and Ronald Smith of
Lancing, TN.
Survivors include her daughters, Sondra Jane Clark (Donald) Woodall
and Jennifer Simoneau of Crossville; sons, Ownie Wayne Simoneau
of Crossville and Chad Allen Clark of Naples, FL; grandchildren,
Brannon, Dylan, Allen and Katalyn Jane Woodall and Courtney Deidra
Simoneau, all of Crossville; sisters, Linda Holland of Crossville
and Patricia Carder; brothers, Wayne and Robert Vanderhoof of
Crossville; and close friend, Cordell Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edd
L. and Grace Smith of Jamestown; and daughters, Crystal and Samanatha
Simoneau.
Pallbearers were Roy Kemmer, Ownie Wayne Simoneau, Jerry Oakes,
Courtney Davenport, all of Crossville; Michael Woody of Cookeville;
and Chad Clark of Florida.
She left behind a host of relatives and friends to mourn her
passing.

Kathi Jean Cox Webb, 52, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 28,
2005. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 30 from the chapel
of Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, with the Rev. Ronnie Silvey officiating.
Graveside services and interment were held Oct. 31 at Ozone Cemetery.
Mrs. Webb was a member of Ozone Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Webb of Crossville; sons,
Joshua T. Webb and Jacob J. Webb of Crossville; daughter, Shasti
D. Webb of Crossville; grandchild, Buttons A. Cole of Crossville;
brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Carla Cox of Ozone; nephew
and niece, Chevas Cox and Shelby Cox; a host of other nieces
and nephews; and favorite cousin, Tommy Cox of Ozone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted Cox and Shirley
Hobbs; and aunt, Louise Loden.
