Bobbie L. Bennett

Bobbie Lee Bennett, 77, passed away June 26, 2005. Funeral services
were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral
Home, with burial in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Jim
Rogers officiated.
Mr. Bennett was born Oct. 19, 1927 in Cookeville, the son of
George Granson Bennett and Rosa Anne Price Bennett.
He was retired from Standard Brands Foods, which later became
Nabisco Foods, after 42 years of dedicated service.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marion Parker Bennett of Cookeville;
daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Carmack of Fishers, IN, Connie
and Norm Dukes of Cookeville, Dee Dee and Dusty Bryant of Crossville
and Lisa and Mike Maynard of Cookeville; sons and daughters-in-law,
Robert and Beth Bennett and Leonard and Sheila Bennett, all of
Cookeville; grandchildren, Eric Carmack and wife Meredith of
Fortville, IN, Lori Turner and husband Greg of Noblesville, IN,
Rebecca Jared and husband Lynn of Cookeville, Randall Risher

Nancy C. Combs

Nancy Conway Combs, of Roanoke, VA, passed away June 22, 2005.
Graveside services were conducted June 25 in St. Andrew's Diocesan
Cemetery, with the Rev. Morris Bennett officiating.
Mrs. Combs was a veteran of World War II, where she served as
a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. She was retired
from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Roanoke and Virginia
Baptist Children's Home in Salem. She was a member of the National
Honor Society and the National Association of Retired Federal
Employees.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Combs; sons, Judge H.
Vincent Conway Jr. and his wife, Gynetha, of Newport News, VA
and James M. Conway and his wife, Carol, of Roanoke; daughter,
Mary Conway Buffkin and her husband, Gil, of Crossville; stepsons,
Stephen C. Combs and his wife, Penny, of Carolina Beach, NC and
James A. Combs Jr., of Alexandria; stepdaughters, Jody C. Duggan
of Aiken, SC, and Sharon C. McMichael of Winchester, VA; grandchildren,
Michelle B. Overbay, Bradford D. Buffkin and Justin M. Conway;
two great-granddaughters, Madison and Brooklyn; eight step-grandchildren;
sister, Frances M. Chisholm and her husband, Lloyd, of Mineral,
VA; other relatives; a dearly beloved cousin, Wanda C. Janosko
and her family; and treasured friends, John and Etta Lane of
Roanoke.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Major Howard
V. Conway, USAF; son, Douglas Ray Conway; and brother, William
W. Moses III and his wife, Irene.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made
to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825-A Electric Road, Roanoke, VA
24018.

Philip S. Bolin
June 22, 1942 - June 6,

Philip (Phil) Stephen Bolin, of Redwood City, CA, formerly of
Crossville, passed away June 6, 2005. A memorial service will
be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at the Newton Church of Christ,
with Ron Harris officiating.
Mr. Bolin was born June 22, 1942, in Cumberland County, the son
of Dallas and Alice Bolin.
He was a Vietnam era veteran and was a carpenter and mechanic
by trade.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Ormandy of Redwood City, CA;
sons, Tim and Brian Bolin of Michigan; stepson, Jody Ormandy
of Redwood City; grandsons, Ryan, Stephen and Robert of Traverse
City, MI; sister, Barbara Ashburn of Rocksprings, GA; brothers,
Harold and Edward of Crossville, Wayne of Columbia, TN and Arba
of Clinton, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son,
Mike.

Doris R. Einecker

Doris Ruth (Doe) Einecker, 84, of Sparta, passed away June 21,
2005. Funeral services were conducted June 27 at St. Andrew's
Catholic Church, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Father Fred
Schmit officiated.
Mrs. Einecker was born Sept. 10, 1920 to Leonard H. Johnson and
Marie Josephine Lundy Johnson.
She was a housewife. An avid golfer, she competed in the Senior
Olympics, winning the state title several times and represented
Tennessee in the National Championships. For 37 years, she was
actively involved in the White County chapter of the American
Red Cross, serving over 20 years as chairman of the Bloodmobile.
She was past president of the Women's Auxiliary of VFW Post #3579
in Park Ridge, IL, served five years as a Girl Scout leader and
was a member of the choir at St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of over 58 years, Joseph Lawrence
Einecker of Sparta; daughter, Sandy Shuburg of Sparta; sons and
daughters-in-law, Don and Barbara Einecker of Austin, TX and
Jerry and Karen Einecker of Smyrna; grandchildren, Jacqueline
Wilkerson and husband Johnny of Algood, TN, Jennifer Naylor and
husband Dallas of Charlotte, NC, Jason Powell and wife Jacque
of Sparta, Tyler Einecker of Sparta and Kelsey Einecker of Smyrna;
and great-grandson, Jonathan Wilkerson of Algood.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the American
Cancer Society.

Win Kirby, 91, of Monterey, passed away June 25, 2005. Funeral
services were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Goff Funeral
Home, with burial in Glade Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Kerr
officiated.
Mr. Kirby was born Feb. 8, 1914 in Glade Creek, TN, the son of
Marvin and Zettie Randolph Kirby.
He was a member of the Hanging Limb Baptist Church. He was an
Army veteran, serving during World War II, and a farmer.
Survivors include his brothers, Verlon Kirby of Bonair, TN and
Ted Kirby of Cincinnati, OH.
In addition to his parents, he as preceded in death by his sister,
Anna Mae Cobb; and brothers, Andrew, James and Mirel Kirby.

Lavonne Platt, 84, of Crossville, formerly of Anderson, IN, passed
away June 19, 2005. Funeral services were conducted June 23 from
the chapel of Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Lambert
officiated, with burial in Anderson Memorial Park.
Mrs. Platt was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Elwood, IN, the daughter
of Merle and Eva Davis Hook.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Teresa
Platt of Crossville; grandchildren, Carla Tuttle, Tawnia Justice
and April Thearp; and seven, great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Carl Platt Sr.; and brother, Harley Hook.

Ruth Bleich Shilling, 76, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June
23, 2005. Memorial services were held June 27 at Christ Lutheran
Church in Fairfield Glade, with the Rev. Jerry Weeks officiating.
Mrs. Shilling was born July 14, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter
of John and Mabel Gephart Bleich.
She was self-employed in the accounting/bookkeeping business
and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. She
enjoyed many hobbies such as knitting and crafts and was an avid
flower gardener with a special interest in roses. She also loved
golfing, skiing and snowmobiling. She will be dearly remembered
for the volunteer work she did for Habitat for Humanity. She
as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will
be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, John Shilling of Fairfield Glade;
son and daughter-in-law, John David and Susan Shilling of Oak
Harbor, OH; daughters and son-in-law, Gail Barbour of Pittsford,
NY, Teresa Dickson of Grapevine, TX and Susan and Jack Beasant
of Sedalia, CO; sisters, Ina Jean Neidigh of State College, PA
and Jacqueline Kuosman of Colorado Springs, CO; and grandchildren,
Gretchen Barbour, Meagan Peach, Sarah Shilling, Amy Shilling,

Mr. Davenport was born Feb. 2, 1961 in Cumberland County, the
son of Woodrow and Mary Mae Norris Davenport.
He was a welder and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, Austin Lee Davenport of Crossville;
daughter, Kendra Renee Davenport of Crossville; companion, Ellen
Griffith of Crossville; father, Woodrow Davenport of Crossville;
brothers, Jerry and James Davenport of Crossville; sisters, Ellen

Olla (Qualls) Harvill, 79, of Crossville, passed away June 7,

Mrs. Harvill was born Oct. 18, 1925 in Livingston, TN, the daughter
of Owen and Mae (Harris) Qualls.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rinnie Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Archie Harvill, Fred Harvill, Wayne
Harvill, Paul Harvill and Clifton Harville, all of Crossville;
daughters, Mildred Sherrill of Crossville, Frances Farley of

George Donald Brookhart Sr., 83, of Crossville, passed away June
19, 2005. Funeral services were conducted June 21 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

Mr. Brookhart was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Sewickley, PA, the son
of George and Mary Laura Bishop Brookhart.
He was a newspaper editor and a member of the Church of Christ.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Ann Hedgecoth Brookhart of Crossville;
daughter, Laura Jane Brookhart of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren,
Stephen Brookhart Scates, Chauncey Jane Scates and Shelby Bishop
Scates, all of Birmingham; and brother, Dr. Charles Edward Brookhart
of Texas.

Richard Nathainel Dyle, 85, of Crossville, passed away June 20,
2005. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June
22, at Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg. The Rev. Auther Nance
will officiate. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at
the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, June 23, in Potters Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Dyle was of the Baptist faith. He served in World War II
and retired from general processing. He was an avid gardener
and he loved to fish and hunt. He was a devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Johnnie A. Dial; sons
and daughters-in-law, William and Anna Dyle, Richard and Brenda
Dyle and Judd Dyle and friend Jessie; daughters and sons-in-law,
Willa and Michael Blackburn and Linda and Clovis Potter; grandsons,
Johnny Mathews, Billy Dyle, Ricky, Terry and Rocky Potter and
Michael Dyle; granddaughters, Lisa Rollins, Bobbie Blackburn,
Linda Jean Bell, Darlene Dyle, Leona Dyle, Amanda Dyle, Andrea
Reagan and Dana Maddle; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Dyle; brother,
Casto Dyle; sister, Beulah Robbins; son, Bobby Ray Dyle; and
infant granddaughter, Sharon Ann Dyle.

David Louis True, 62, formerly of Crossville, passed away June
19, 2005. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June
22, at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville. Masonic services will
begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday .
Mr. True was born Aug. 30, 1942 in Elyria, OH, the son of Louis
and Mabel Stevens True.
He was an agent in resort sales and real estate prior to retiring.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served faithfully
for 11 years. He was a 31-year Mason of the Union Lodge #7 of
Junction City, KS.
Survivors include his son, Kevin David True of Crossville; daughter,
LeShawn True Iles of Crossville; brother, Louis True Jr. of Cherry
Valley, IL; grandchildren, Travis and Summer Iles and Randal
and Amber Bilbrey, all of Crossville; fiancée, Beth Wray

Donas "Don" N. Boring, 68, of Maryville, formerly of
Crossville, passed away June 11, 2005. Funeral services were
conducted June 14 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro.
Donnie Bell officiated, with special music by Norman Teffettler
and Barbara Sides. Graveside committal services were held June
15 at Hale's Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Boring was born Jan. 17, 1937 in Blount County, the son of
Joe and Martha Britt Boring.
He was an installation laborer for Clayton Mobile Homes. He loved
hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He also enjoyed gardening,
especially flowers and landscaping.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Louise Boring of Maryville;
son, Joey Boring of Maryville; stepson, Dennis Hooks of Maryville;
stepdaughters, Tina Yearout and Rhonda Slaughter of Maryville;
brother, Floyd Boring of Crossville; sister, Mayme Burchfield
of Maryville; grandchildren, Joseph Carl and Jesse Boring; step-grandchildren,
Bodie and Brittany Slaughter; and numerous other relatives and
friends.

Jo L. D. Cadle

Jo Lee Dannel Cadle, 77, passed away June 13, 2005. A memorial
service will be held at a later date in the Mount Sulpher Cemetery
in Grandview, TN.
Mrs. Cadle was born in Grandview, TN, the daughter of Jesse and
Elizabeth Kemmer Dannel.
A graduate of Spring City High School and the University of Tennessee,
her career included treasurer at Union College in Barbourville,
KY, burser-recorder at Southeast Community College in Cumberland,
KY and registrar at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
In 2000, Southeast Community College dedicated a spot on campus
with a bench and plaque in acknowledgement of Jo and her husband's
contributions to the college.
She was an active member of the Hendersonville, NC Quilt Guild,
serving in several capacities. She was a current member of the
Cumberland County Quilt Guild.
She maintained a close and loyal friendship with many with whom
she worked over the years. Her family was always her primary
concern, offering assistance and advice when needed.
Survivors include her brother, Billy Dannel of Grandview; sister,
Mary Sue Dannel McDade of Crossville; sisters-in-law, Jean Reath
of Burnsville, NC and Barbara Cadle of Murfreesboro; nephews,
Ed and Ted Dannel, Mark David Cadle, Bert, Dann and Chris McDade
and Gary and Kelly Reath; niece, Elizabeth McDade Gays; and many
close friends.

Daniel F. De Boalt
Feb. 3, 1934 - June 15,
2005
Daniel F. De Boalt, 71, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June
15, 2005. Memorial services were conducted June 20 at the Fairfield
Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Max Mayo and the
Rev. Lanita Pride officiating.
Mr. De Boalt was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Messena, NY, the third
child of Helen P. De Boalt and Frederick F. De Boalt.
He attended Messena High School. During high school, his parents
were transferred to Pittsburgh, PA, and he graduated from Shaler
High School in Glenshaw, PA. He was offered a college skiing
scholarship in Lake Placid, NY, but decided to follow his parents
to Wenatchee, WA, to study mechanical engineering at Washington
State University in Pullman, WA. He was a member of the Sigma
Chi fraternity and ROTC at WSU.
While in Wenatchee for summer break from WSU, he met and fell
in love with Sylvia West, his future wife of 44 years. He graduated
from WSU in 1957 and Dan and Sylvia were married the same year.
After graduating, Mr. De Boalt served two years in the U.S. Army
Signal Corps, including stints at Fort Gordon, GA, Fort Monmouth,
NJ and Herzo Base, Germany. While at Herzo Base, he was assigned
to be the cryptography unit officer. He was the officer in charge
when the first signals from the first Russian satellite, Sputnik,
were intercepted.
Mr. De Boalt left the Army and went to work for the Aluminum
Company of America (ALCOA). His career with Alcoa spanned 40
years. During his career, he and his family lived in half a dozen
states, the South American country of Suriname, and Wales in
the United Kingdom. For most of his career, Mr. De Boalt was
involved with company construction projects. He served as Alcoa's
representative in a meeting with the British Prime Minister James
Callahan in 1979, and several with President Clinton from 1993-1996.
He and his wife retired to Fairfield Glade in 1998.
During his retirement, Dan and Sylvia traveled extensively, including
Australia, Russia and Western Europe. Dan was the founder of
the Sylvia De Boalt Breast Cancer Fund at Vanderbilt University.
He was active in Crossville Rotary and an avid golfer throughout
his life. He was also a member of the Fairfield Glade Methodist
Church.
Survivors include his son, Stephen L. De Boalt of Birmingham,
AL; grandson, Matthew E. De Boalt of Birmingham, AL: daughter,
Katherine D. Stulb of Atlanta, GA; mother, Helen P. De Boalt
of Asheville, NC; sister, Barbra D. Lang of Asheville, NC; and
brother, David F. De Boalt of Albuquerque, NM.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia W. De Boalt; brother,
Richard F. De Boalt; and father, Frederick F. De Boalt.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mrs. England was born Sept. 23, 1939 in Crossville, the daughter
of Erba and Pearl (Lewis) Thompson.
She was a nurse's aid and a member of the Baptist faith.

and daughter-in-law, Mark and Anna Smith England of Crossville;
grandchild, Cody Smith-England of Crossville; sister, Hilda Hinds

Florence Emma Talent, 101, of Cookeville, passed away June 15,
2005. Funeral services were held June 18 from the Cookeville
Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, with burial
in Cookeville City Cemetery. Dr. Randall Adkisson officiated.
Mrs. Talent was born on Sept. 26, 1903, in Putnam County to the
late James (Jim) Madison and Mary Linnie Huddleston Buckner.
She was a member of Douglas Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, which
she joined in 1929, when she married her late husband, Orlely
Talent. Mrs. Talent loved to sing and was known to have a beautiful
alto voice. She was the church pianist for more than 50 years.
She was a homemaker and was known to be an excellent cook.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Orlene and Harlan
Henry of Cookeville; grandsons and their wives, Steve and Carolyn
Martin Carter of Baxter, Alan and Jenny Ramsey Carter, Brian
and Christi Curtis Carter, all of Cookeville, and Brent and Shannon
Smith Carter of Rickman; great-grandchildren, A.J., Dakota, Cade,
Callie and Emma Grace Carter; and sister, Fanilou Blaylock of
Crossville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death
by a sister, Clara Buckner; and brothers, Estes, Charlie and
Vestle Buckner.

hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He also enjoyed gardening,

Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 16, 1935 in Greensburg, PA, the son

He was a retired mechanic with United Airlines and a U.S. Army
veteran, having served during Korea. He was also a member of
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working on
cars and loved to travel.

Margaret Joy Bandy Baine was born Jan. 19, 1918 in Crossville,
TN, the daughter of William Baker Bandy and Emily Anstis Dunbar
Bandy, also of Crossville. She graduated from Cumberland County
High School in 1936 and attended Southern Union College in Alabama
and Piedmont College in Georgia.
Mrs. Baine was a lifelong member of the First Congregational
Church of Crossville and the Women's Fellowship. She was active
in the BPW Club and served as president twice. She was also a
member of the Crab Orchard Chapter DAR, serving as chapter regent
for one term. She was a member of the Art Circle and the Top
Town Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Susie
White Reynolds and Henry Green Dunbar, who was the first president
of First National Bank of Crossville; brother, William Baker
Bandy Jr., T/Sgt. USAF; and sister, Evelyn Bandy Jones.
Mrs. Baine was a former employee of the USDA, Raleigh, NC, Bilbrey
Furniture and Hdwe. of Crossville as bookkeeper, a teacher in
Cumberland County schools and Trade-A-Plane service, from which
she retired after 33 years of service.
She was married to Howard L. Baine Jr. in 1953 and they had one
son, Howard L. "Tiger" Baine III.
In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her daughter-in-law,
Dayna Keller Baine; granddaughter, Bethany Michelle Baine; brother,
C. Ward Bandy and his wife, the former Georgia McCormick of Pleasant
Hill. The Bandys make Knoxville as their home.
Survivors also include her nephews, Dan Bandy of Colorado Springs,
CO and Dr. Thomas W. Bandy of Knoxville; and niece, Lt. Col.
Claire E. Bandy, U.S. Army, stationed at the Pentagon, Washington,
DC.
Memorial services were June 10, with the Rev. Jack Noble officiating
at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Baine was a victim of Parkinson's disease. The family requests

at General Motors in Michigan, and then worked for the state
of Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Robert E. Cowen

Robert Eugene (Bob) Cowen, 74, passed away June 4, 2005.
Mr. Cowen was a native of Colorado, born in Pueblo in 1930, to
Thomas Roscoe and Violet Olson Cowen. His family moved to Denver
where he became an All-Star athlete at South High School graduating
in 1948. He was admitted to Princeton University as a member
of the class of 1952. He earned a spot on the varsity football
team, playing all four years in college, and as a member of the
undefeated teams of 1950 and 1951.
After graduation, he worked as an educator and coach at the St.
John's School in Houston, Texas and at the John Burroughs School
in St. Louis, MO where he was also the first director of development.
In 1964, he was appointed the director of development at Willamette
University in Salem, OR.
In 1966 he returned to Princeton where he joined the Development
Office at his alma mater, eventually serving as director of major
gifts. In 1979, he was appointed executive director of development
for the Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He also served
as the director of development at Kenyon College in Gambier,
OH and as president of Sterling College in Craftsbury Common,
VT.
In 1989, Mr. Cowen retired to Fairfield Glade where he was a
member of the Druid Hills Country Club and the Fairfield Glade
Community Church. He served as president of the church board.
In the spring of 2004, he relocated to Knoxville.
Predeceased by his parents and his only sibling, Thomas Cowen,
he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly Hunt of Knoxville;
daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Dan Greeley of Ballwin,
MO and Susan and Keith Coleman of New Hope, PA; and sons and
daughter-in-law, David and Jane Cowen of Knoxville and Daniel
Cowen of Vista, CA. Bob enjoyed his 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service is being held at the Fairfield Glade Community
Church in Fairfield Glade on June 16. His body is being donated
to The University of Tennessee Medical School.

Mr. Carr was born Oct. 11, 1922 in Hancock County, TN, the son
of William Carr and Hattie Ferguson Carr.
He was a special education instructor with Hilltoppers for 13
years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wallace Carr of Crossville;
daughters, Karen (Eddie) Nash of Birmingham, AL and Kim (John

honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Griffin was born April 4, 1947 in Crossville, the son of
Bertie Andrew and Lockie (Raye) Griffin.
He was a jeweler and a member of the Baptist faith. He served
in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

2005. Prayer services were held June 7 from the chapel of Hood
Funeral Home, with Father Patrick Brownell officiating. Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 9, at St.
Andrew Catholic Church in Saline, MI, with Father William Stevenson
officiating. The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m.,
prior to the service. Burial will be in Milford Memorial Cemetery
in Milford, MI. Father Ronald Anderson from St. Mary, Milford,
MI, will be presiding.
Mr. Grondin was born April 15, 1924 in Milford, MI, the son of
Oscar Albert and Marie Louise Mailloux Grondin.
He was retired as a communications technician with Michigan Wisconsin
Pipeline Co. and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served
during World War II. He was also a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic
Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was active in Olympic-style
archery and loved to collect antique radios.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Conant Grondin of Crossville;
sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Robert and Sonia Grondin of Casa
Grande, AZ, the Rev. Daniel and Toni Grondin of Mesquite, TX
and Pete and Diane Grondin of Lakeland, GA; daughters and sons-in-law,

Mrs. Hale was born July 16, 1920 in Oneida, TN, the daughter
of Gayther Coleman Cook Sr. and Nova Marcum Cook.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Crossville. She
was a registered nurse and served with General Patton during
World War II.

Mrs. Kingsbury was born Aug. 15, 1925 in Herkimer, NY, the daughter
of William Rawley and Elizabeth Jane Colby Haller.
She was retired as a minister and an educator. She served as
lay minister for 12 years, associate pastor of music and education,
organist and choir director. She was also an elementary school
teacher and interim principal. She was past matron of the Homer
NY Chapter #222 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of
Homer Congregational United Church of Christ in Homer, NY, and
Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Kingsbury of Pleasant Hill;
sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Donna Kingsbury of Albany,
NY, Jim and Diane Kingsbury of Herndon, VA, Bob and Leigh Ann
Kingsbury of Wilmington, NC and Scott Colby Kingsbury of Pottstown,
PA; brother, William Paul Haller of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren,

Margaret Ann "Peg" (Rumery) Kowalski, 80, of Portage,
MI, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 29, 2005. She
was born Jan. 12, 1925 in Allegan, MI, the daughter of Lyle and
Muriel (Wilson) Rumery.
Mrs. Kowalski was a graduate of Allegan High School and received
her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from WMU. She retired
after 20 years of service with the Comstock School as a speech
pathologist and audiologist.
Cremation will take place. Services were held June 1 at the Betzler
Life Story Funeral Homes, Kalamazoo, MI. Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated June 2 at St. Thomas More Parish. Private interment
was held at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan.
She was preceded in death by an infant boy in 1958.

Stitsel and Coleman Oakes.

Eric Wyatt, Dan Barnett, Gerald Godsey, Timothy Oakes and Richard
Hale.

Evelyn B. Wudyker, 85, of Crossville, passed away May 20, 2005.
Services for Mrs. Wudyker and her husband, John L. Wudyker, were
conducted May 25 at Stoney Creek United Methodist Church, Ypsilanti,
MI. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, MI.
Mrs. Wudyker was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Belleville, MI, the daughter
of Herbert and Rebecca Green Elliott.

MI. She was married to John L. Wudyker Nov. 24, 1937 and he preceded
her in death Oct. 11, 2002.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Wudyker of Crossville; son
and daughter-in-law, Robert and Julie Wudyker of Ypsilanti, MI;
brother, Clarence Elliott of Dexter, MI; sisters, Rose Wiley
of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Frances Quiel of Crossville and Betty Davenport
of Dexter, MI; grandchildren, Robert Wudyker of Milan, MI and
Sherri Pietras of Florida; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and
Anthony Pietras and Hannah Wudyker.

husband, John L. Wudyker; daughter, Dorothy Wudyker; and brothers,

Robert C. Krapf
Nov. 14, 1914 - March
26, 2005
Robert C. Krapf, 90, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 26,
2005. A memorial service was held in the Memorial Garden of the
Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church on May 30.
Mr. Krapf was born Nov. 14, 1914 in Pittsburgh, the son of Charles
G. and Fey E. Krapf.
Since 1994, he resided in the Uplands Retirement Village in Pleasant
Hill and prior to that in Oak Ridge, Fairfield Glade and Knoxville.
He was a member of the International Association of Round Dance
Teachers and the Lloyd Shaw Foundation, and since moving to Pleasant
Hill, he taught traditional square and contra dancing in the
Uplands Retirement Village. He also taught dancing in Oak Ridge
and Fairfield Glade.
He was a charter member of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church
in Knoxville, and was a member of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist
Church for the past 15 years.
He held a B.S. in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University
and a master's degree in economics from Brown University, with
post-graduate work in economics at the University of Illinois.
He was a U.S. Navy officer in World War II and worked for 35
years for TVA before retiring in 1976.
Survivors include his daughter, Fay Krapf of Raleigh, NC; sons
and daughter-in-law, Peter Krapf of Oak Ridge and Bruce and Janet
Krapf of Murfreesboro; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Lois Krapf.

Claude H. Neal
Oct. 29, 1916
Claude Howard Neal, 88, of Brentwood, TN, passed away recently.
Services will be private, with the Rev. Ryan Bennett officiating.
Mr. Neal was born Oct. 29, 1916 in Watertown, TN.
He was a graduate of East High School in 1936 and attended Castle
Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN. He served in the U.S.
Navy in Japan during World War II. He worked for Genesco in Nashville
and Lewisburg, TN, as well as retiring in 1977 from the U.S.
Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was a lifetime member
of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Phoenix
Lodge No. 131 F and AM.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Crossville.
He was a devoted husband, father and wonderful grandfather. He
enjoyed sports, especially golf and played many years at Lake
Tansi in Crossville with fine gentlemen such as Jack Irwin, Chuck
McCorkle, Tony Lignar, Ernie Romine and others.
Also during retirement in 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Neal lived in Ft.
Lauderdale, FL and appeared in the movie <I>Caddyshack<I>.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael H. and
Mary Ann Neal, Jerry E. and Linda Neal, all of Brentwood, and
Randall P. and Holly Neal of Crossville; brother, Frank E. Neal
Jr. of Nashville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Josephine P.
Neal (Dowden), who passed away Aug. 10, 1983; and three grandchildren.
Family members served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers
were Frank E. Neal III, Henry Smith, Joe Ivie, Billy Harrell,
Tom and Don Dowden, John Bailey, John Beemer and Clyde Winters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the

Rip Earl Van Winkle, 74, of Lavergne, TN, passed away May 27,
2005. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June
1, from Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, TN, with burial in Roselawn
Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Van Winkle was born in Van Buren County, the son of Brown
Lowe and Rose Lee Burgess Van Winkle.
He attended Pilgram Baptist Church, was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict and was founder and owner of Rip Van Winkle Trailer
Court in Lavergne since 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Mooneyham Van Winkle; son
and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jennifer Berry Van Winkle of Lavergne;
sister, Mamie Van Winkle Guy of Sparta; brothers, Thurman Van
Winkle of Manchester, Floyd Van Winkle, Robert Van Winkle and
Cecil Van Winkle, all of Spencer; and grandchildren, Jeremy (Robin)
Van Winkle of Murfreesboro, T.J. (Ajia) Van Winkle of Smyrna
and Stefanie (Jason) Bone of Lavergne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son,
Tommy Van Winkle; and brothers, Lonas and Calvin Van Winkle.
