Lucy B. Eckert

Lucy B. Eckert, 77, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 28,
2004. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July
1, at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lanita
Pride and the Rev. Max Mayo will officiate.
Mrs. Eckert was born Dec. 5, 1926 in Birmingham, MI, the daughter
of Clark Bennett and Lucy Phillips.
She was a former secretary and a member of the Fairfield Glade
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Ed Burke of Elizabethton, TN and
John Burke of Jacksonville, FL; stepchildren, Phil Eckert Jr.
of Elk Grove Village, IL, Ellen Anderson of Dekalb, IL and Steve
Eckert of Allendale, MI; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Philip Eckert; sister, Anne Schmidt; and grandchild,
Christopher Anderson.

Irving P. Nagdeman
June 23, 2004
Irving P. Nagdeman, 82, formerly of Gary, Indiana and currently
residing in Crossville, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on June
23, 2004.
"Irv" was a former owner of Nagdeman's, a fine men's
clothing store located in East Chicago, IN until the store moved
to Highland, IN in 1979. He was born in East Chicago in 1921
and graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1939.
After attending Principia College in the St. Louis area, Irv
enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he served during World
War II aboard the <I>USS Bangor Maine<I> and received
an Honorable Discharge on September 20, 1945.
Irv retired from the clothing business in 1981 and moved to New
Bern, NC where he lived until 1995. He relocated to Crossville,
TN until his death. Irv became actively involved with SCORE (Service
Corps of Retired Executives) for many years and was constantly
counseling young entrepreneurs regarding opening small businesses
in both the North Carolina and Tennessee areas.
He had been a member of Civitan in New Bern, NC, the Exchange
Club in Crossville, TN, as well as the World War II Navy Armed
Guard.
Irv is preceded in death by Elizabeth Francis Toomey of Philadelphia,
PA, mother of their three sons, Ronald (Linda) of Ft. Worth,
TX, Donald (Margaret) of Michigan City, IN and Dennis of Schererville,
IN.
Irv is survived by his wife, Judy Caruthers of Crossville, TN
and four grandchildren, Craig (Renee) of Crown Point, IN, Eric
(Nancy) of Knoxville, TN and David and Elizabeth of Dyer, IN.
He also has three great-grandchildren, Aubrey of Crown Point,
IN, Bridget and Lily of Knoxville, TN; two stepdaughters, Sarah
Carter of Knoxville, TN and Amelia Carter of Nashville, TN, and
many, many friends.
There will be no visitation per Irv's wishes. His body is being
donated to Vanderbilt University Medical School for research.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu

Center for Child Abuse at 403 University Street, Livingston,
TN 38570.
Horrell O. Pinch

Horrell O. Pinch, 91, of Crossville, passed away June 25, 2004.
A memorial service was held June 29 from the chapel of Crossville
Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Rye Cemetery in Rye, NH.
Jeff Monday officiated.
Mr. Pinch was born April 8, 1913 in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada,
the son of Alpha Warren Pinch and Ethel Cooper Pinch.
He was a former sheet metal worker.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Pinch of Crossville; daughters,
Gail Ann Glasgow of Cleveland, OH, Jessica Matthewson of Atlanta,
GA and Glenna Dame Buchanan of Nokomis, FL; sister, Elsie Gilson
of Wickliffe, OH; five grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers,
Edward Pinch, Gerald Pinch, William Pinch and Alan Pinch.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Cumberland
County or Cumberland County Cancer Society.

Mary Margaret Vandever, 80, passed away June 28, 2004. A memorial
service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, from the chapel
of Partlow Funeral Home in Lebanon, TN. Bro. Wayne Miller will
officiate. Visitation with the family will be from 4 p.m. until
service time.
Mrs. Vandever was born Dec. 24, 1923 in Calhoun, GA, the daughter
of Clarence and Georgia Causey Chastain.
She was a member of Maple Hill Church of Christ and retired from
Marta in Atlanta, GA where she was a secretary. She was a member
of the WAC and served during World War II.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Pam) Vandever of Lebanon; and
grandson, Taylor Vandever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Charles Leon Vandever.

passed away June 19, 2004. Funeral services were conducted June
22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville
City Cemetery. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated.
Mrs. Bertram was born Dec. 5, 1931 in Alabama, the daughter of
Bryan and Mary Cox.
She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Gary Bertram
of Dallas, TX, Mike and Kelly Bertram of Crossville and Randy
Bertram of Dallas, TX; daughter, Kim Rimes of Crossville; 10
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Jo-Ann Riketta
of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell (Bert) Bertram
Jr.

Kayla Rain Pugh, an infant born at Cumberland Medical Center,
passed away June 22, 2004. Funeral services were conducted June
24 at Pugh Cemetery. Freddie Melton officiated.
Kayla was born June 22, 2004, the daughter of Jason Earl Pugh
and Betsy Sue Vanwinkle Pugh.
Survivors include her parents, Jason Earl Pugh and Betsy Sue
Vanwinkle Pugh; brother, Kelvin Pugh; and grandparents, Charles
and Kathy Vanwinkle and Robert and Rosie Pugh.
She was preceded in death by her uncle, Wiley Vanwinkle.
Charles H. Vanwinkle served as pallbearer.

George K. Rainwater, 99, of Crossville, passed away June 21,
2004. Funeral services were conducted June 24 from the chapel
of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Hale's Chapel Cemetery.
Pastor Paul Jensen and Bro. Walter Tollett officiated, with special
music by Wanda Moore.
Mr. Rainwater was born April 8, 1905 in Boston, GA, the son of
Pinkney Richard and Caroline Poole Rainwater.
He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Seventh
Day Adventist Church. His favorite hobby was growing Georgia
Rattlesnake watermelons.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Rainwater of Crossville; sons,
Joe Rainwater of Redmond, OR and Jack Rainwater of Crossville;
daughters, June Volkman of Salem, OR, Mary Ann Angelin of Apison,
TN and Caroline "Polly" Knick of Visalia, CA; 15 grandchildren;
and 32 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son,
Jimmy Rainwater; two brothers and six sisters.
Pallbearers were Richard Angelin, Randall Angelin, Nels Angelin,
Harley Cheshire, Wayne Riner and Randy Schinlaub.

Herbert Trance

Herbert Trance, 75, of Crossville, passed away June 26, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Goff
Funeral Home, with interment in Woodcliff Cemetery. The Rev.
Randy Roberson officiated. Full military honors were provided
by the VFW Honor Guard.
Mr. Trance was born July 17, 1928 in Watertown, NY, the son of
Samuel and Irene King Trance.
He was a graduate of Salem High School in Salem, NY where he
was an accomplished athlete. He was a Korean War Army veteran
from which he belonged to the VFW Post 729 in Waterliet, NY.
He worked over 30 years in the insurance business in upstate
New York as a manager. Moving to Crossville, he owned and operated
a couple of small business. He attended the Woodcliff Baptist
Church in Monterey, TN.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Carr Trance of Crossville;
sons, David Trance of Liverpool, NY and Steven Trance of Colonie,
NY; stepdaughters, Lynn Myles and Vanessa Tays, both of Crossville;
stepsons, Robert Carr of Monterey and Tony Higdon of Crossville;
14 grandchildren; sister, Caroline D'Arcangelis of Plains, NY;
and brother, James Trance of Colonie, NY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Irene King
Trance.

Mrs. Andrews passed away June 22.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1944, to Robert Thomas Watkins and Verna
Peter Watkins of Buechel, KY. She was a molding machine operator
with Russell Stover Candies Inc. in Cookeville.
Mrs. Andrews is survived by her daughter, Kelly Andrews; sons
Keith Andrews, David Andrews and Chris Andrews, all of Cookeville;
grandchildren Ashley Andrews, Brynn Lane and Dana Lane, all from

Funeral services for Lois E. Oakes, 87, Crossville, formerly
of Dayton, OH, who passes away June 17, 2004 at Cumberland Medical
Center, were held June 21 at Magetti Gavin Funeral Home in Dayton
with burial in Willowview Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 23, 1917 in Georgia, the daughter of Alford
and Callie Bennett Greene. Mrs. Oakes was a homemaker.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Stephen and Terry
Oakes and Dwight Oakes, all of Dayton; daughters and son-in-laws
Emma Lowe of Crossville and Wanda Faye Winn and Joy and Charles
Marcum, all of Dayton; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren
and many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by son, Wayne S. Oakes, and grandson,
Rex Lowe.

Mr. Ashburn was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Crossville, the son of
George W. Ashburn and Mary F. Baringer Ashburn. He was a factory
worker and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Patton Ashburn of Crossville;
daughter Shirley Ann Linnell of Silver Springs, MD; Tom Ashburn
of Dayton, OH; stepson James Gunter of Chattanooga; stepdaughters
Louise Marlow of Orlando, FL, Blanche Edwards of Woodbridge,
GA, and Georgienna Stone of Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Sam, Bill and Bob Ashburn; parents
George and Mary Ashburn; brothers Hershel Ashburn and Henry Ashburn;
and sisters Celia Sousek, Elsie Farmer and Bernice Stringer.

June 4, 2004. He was born Sept. 9, 1919 in Detroit, MI, son of
William and Thelma Heiden Remo.
Mr. Remo was an electrician for the Ford Company and served in
the U.S. Army during WW II.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Janice and Christopher
Rhind of Fairfield Glade; grandchildren Chris, Amy and Lisa;
and great-grandchild Katie O'Brien.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Morris Remo; son
Gary Remo; parents William and Thelma Remo; and brother, William
Remo.

Funeral services for Geneva Marie Wilson, 85, of Crossville,
who passed away June 14, 2004, were held June 17 from the chapel
of Hood Funeral Home. Burial was in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
She was born Jan. 13, 1919 in Cumberland County, the daughter
of Grover Cleveland Sr. and Virginia Louise Roy Parsons. She
was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was
a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother and was loved
by all who knew her.
Mrs. Wilson enjoyed spending time working on word puzzles, but
the most precious time of all was spent with her grandchildren
who loved and cherished her dearly.
She is survived by sons Wayne Madewell of Cookeville, Lane Madewell
and wife Margaret, Fred Wilson and wife, Theresa, Ralph Wilson,
Jeff Wilson and wife Linda; daughters Alline Henry and husband,
James, Pat Fields and husband Ted, all of Crossville; sisters
Joyce Bryant of Crossville and Sue Russell of Hamilton, OH; 15
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Fred Dempsey Wilson Sr.; brothers Robert Parsons, Grover
Parsons Jr. and Bill Parsons; and sister, Jewel Parsons Pugh.

Before retiring, he was employed by Whitson Insulation in Michigan.

Mr. Godsey was born Sept. 25, 1942 in Cumberland County, the
son of Frank and Sylvia Daniels Godsey. He worked in a rock quarry.

and Toby Godsey, all of Crossville, and Scotty Godsey of Crab
Orchard; eight grandchildren; brothers Tommy Godsey, Pete Godsey,

Mr. Sandlin, formerly of Miamisburg, passed away June 19 at Sycamore
Hospital in Miamisburg.
He was retired from Harrison Radiator after 34 years of service.
He was a member of Minerva Lodge 98 F&AM.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Mary; daughters
and son-in-law Darlene and Jim Denman and Deb Myers, all of West
Carrollton, OH; grandchildren Lori Denman, Scott (Maggie) Denman,
Holly Denman, Shelly (Eric) Shafer and Jay (Cindy) Myers; four
great-grandchildren, Brent, Erin and Alex Denman and Ryan Shafer;

She was a factory seamstress.

Gordon Watson, 72, of Cookeville, passed away June 16, 2004.

Mr. Watson was born Feb. 11, 1932 in Roane County, TN, the son
of Claude and Addie Lee (Swallows) Watson.
He was a retired truck driver with American Freight Teamsters
Union. He was a member of the Cookeville Church of God, where
he was song leader. He was an airplane pilot, owned his own car
business and was an insurance salesman. He served in the United
States Air Force.
Survivors include his step-daughter and husband, Lois (Abston)
and Ellis Bertram Jr. of Cookeville; step-son and wife, Dan and
Janelle Holloway of Anniston, AL; brothers, Donnie Watson of
Nashville; sisters, Thelma Morgan of Crossville, Jeanette Johnson
of Nashville, Katy Gammon of Nashville, Ruth Reagan of Crossville
and Melinda Reagan of Crossville; grandson and wife, Jerry Dale
and Kim Abston of Cookeville; granddaughter and husband, Paula

Kasi was born Oct. 19, 1989 in Murfreesboro, TN, the daughter
of Marcia Young Scherer.
She was a student at Homestead Elementary School and a member
of the Trinity Tabernacle Church. She was a former student at
Rose Bank Elementary School in the Inglewood community of Nashville.
Survivors include her mother, Marcia Young Scherer of Crossville;
stepfather, Chris Butler of Crossville; grandparents, Samuel
and Evelyn Jameson of Crossville and Linda and Steve Butler of
Nashville; uncle and aunt, Richard and Ann Young of Huntsville,
AL; and great-grandmother, Opal Butler of Red-Boiling Springs,
TN.

OH, passed away June 2, 2004. A private service was held June
7 at Tomon Funeral Home in Cleveland, OH.
Mr. Bell was born May 31, 1932 in Crossville, TN, the daughter
of George and Kitty Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, Nick Timoch; sons, Porter, Albert
and Richard; daughters, Teresa, Tracey and Connie; 17 grandchildren;
and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers
and sisters, Shirley Lee, Dan Lewis, Edward Lewis, Lena Williams,
Edith Wood and Rachel Loshbough.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
brothers, Floyd Lewis, Lonnie Lewis and Homer Lewis.

Helen Joyce (Areaux) Dorstewitz, 64, of Crossville, passed away
May 29, 2004. To celebrate her life, a memorial service was conducted
June 5 at Adam's Funeral Home in Paw Paw, MI. A memorial service
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at the First United
Methodist Church in Crossville. At her request, she was cremated.
Mrs. Dorstewitz was born June 30, 1939 in Almena, MI, the daughter
of Max and Laura Areaux.
She grew up in Almena and attended Paw Paw High School, graduating
in 1956. She married William Dorstewitz on Nov. 28, 1958 in Paw
Paw. They were blessed with three adopted children, plus a South
African exchange student who also became part of the family.
Through the years she worked as a beautician, telephone answering
service secretary, and secretary for a private elementary school.
Her favorite job was raising her family and enjoying their growing
up as well as the children's many friends who frequented her

She happily followed her husband's career to several different
cities around the country, always looking forward to the adventure.
They ended up in Kalamazoo, MI for the last 20 years of his career.
After Bill's retirement, they moved to Crossville in October
2001 where they lived in an RV community which because their
home base for many motorhome trips.
Over the years she made many special friends. Her life was filled
with opportunities to be a friend, mentor, teacher and listener
to people of all ages. She eagerly responded to all of these
opportunities, giving her all to each one. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and
teaching Sunday school at different times and places. She was
a member of the Red Hat Society and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include her husband, William Dorstewitz; children and
their spouses, Todd and Alicia Dorstewitz and their children,
Aric and Keely; Troy and Gail Dorstewitz and their children,
Adam and Lily; and Tracy Dorstewitz and her son, Teryn, all of
the Kalamazoo area, as well as Enrico and Dana Marinus and his
children, Liam and Niall, of Cape Town, South Africa.
Because of her special love of animals, she has requested that
any memorials in her name be given to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue
or your local Humane Society, or to the Multiple Myeloma Research
Foundation.

Mrs. Barrow was born Dec. 6, 1926 in Owensboro, KY, the daughter
of Herbert Owens Sr. and Ollie Mae Downs Owens.
She was an assembly technician for General Electric and a charter
member of the Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. She was an artist
and enjoyed sewing. She was a wonderful mother who will be greatly
missed by all.
Survivors include her daughters, Maria Wright of Owensboro, KY
and Pamela Thomas of Alaska; sons, Allen Barrow of Owensboro,
KY, Raymond Barrow of Crossville, Robert Barrow of Maryland,
Rex Barrow of New Jersey and David Barrow of Durham, NC; 22 grandchildren;
and 18 great-grandchildren.

Etta Lenoar (McNew) Eldridge, 76, of Graysville, OH, passed away
June 8, 2004. A celebration of her life was held in her hometown
on Saturday, June 12, with burial in Akron, OH.
Born in Claiborne County, TN on Jan. 24, 1928, her early life
was spent working on the family farm in Crossville. During the
World War II, she joined countless others in this country working
for the war effort at a shirt factory in LaFollette, TN.
Following her marriage to Richard Howard Eldridge on Dec. 26,
1947, she moved from Crossville to Akron, OH where she lived,
worked and raised her children. Her retirement years were spent
in the small Monroe County town of Graysville, OH.
Survivors include her husband and lifelong companion of 56 years,
Howard Eldridge; daughter, Etta Faye (Charles) McBride of Akron,
OH; sons, Howard Ray (Wanda) Eldridge of Graysville, OH, Bruce
(Lynn) Eldridge and Bob Eldridge, all of Akron, OH; brothers,
Willie (Erica) McNew of Copperas Cove, TX and Paul (Mary Edith)
McNew of Crossville; sisters, Ruby Lawson of Jacksboro, TN and

Mr. Hale was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving at
Omaha Beach in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Black Forest

Conservation Corps (CCC) and a retired bus driver for the Bledsoe
County school system.

Norma Dittrick, 47, of Columbus, OH, passed away June 4, 2004.
Memorial services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Tollett
Cemetery in Sequatchie Valley, and Tuesday, June 15, in Dayton,
OH.
Mrs. Dittrick was a graduate of Meadowdale High School and Wright
State University. She was currently employed by Wright State
University School of Medicine as a senior emergency medical services
technologist. Norma was primarily in charge of American Heart
Association classes such as basic life support, advanced cardiac
life support, pediatric advanced life support and many others.
She assisted in various ways with the medical school and the
Emergency Medicine Residency program for about 24 years.
She was a paramedic and a firefighter with the Harrison Township
Fire Department for over 23 years and currently served as the
emergency medical services coordinator.
She was a member of Ohio's FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task
Force. Initially she performed as a medical specialist and presently
as an oversight committee member.
Mrs. Dittrick served Emergency Medical Services well as instructor
for paramedics and emergency medical technicians. She was a representative
to the Greater Miami Valley Emergency Medical Services Council
and served in many ways up to the presidency of the council.
She was an active member of many committees of the Ohio Heart
Association and currently chaired the External Cardiac Care Committee.
From Ohio, she was utilized to assist the National Heart Association
with several functions.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Dittrick, a recently retired
Dayton Fire Department lieutenant and former Harrison Township
Fire Department member, where they met. She is also survived
by her father, Bill Tollett of Crossville; sister, Kim Tollett
of Murfreesboro; brother, Billy Tollett of Murfreesboro; stepdaughter,
Sara Dittrick of Dayton; nephews, Austin and Jarrod Wilson and
Bo Tollett of Murfreesboro; and niece, Macy Tollett of Murfreesboro.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hoskins Tollett
of Dayton, OH.

William "Clenn" Agee,
81, of Crossville, passed away May 27, 2004. Funeral services
were conducted June 1 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with
burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Tommy Slaton officiated.
Mr. Agee was born May 30, 1922 in Cumberland County, the son
of William Alfred and Alba Henry Agee.
He was an only child raised in a Christian family. He and his
special friend, Ivan Mooneyham, with whom he was raised, would
say they had the best caregivers of anybody. He loved his job
of 15 years in which he served as a police officer. He was a
member of Fredonia Baptist Church. He was a hard-working and
dedicated family man who loved his children and grandchildren
very much. He had a special saying that when asked how he was
he would reply, "I was better, but I got over it."
He married Christine Lewis Aug. 21, 1954 and would have celebrated
50 years this year. He had a very special relationship with his
son-in-law, Danny, with whom he spent a lot of time with. He
also loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Agee of Crossville; daughter
and son-in-law, Cathy and Danny Swafford of Crossville; grandchildren,
Chris Sherrell, Jeff Sherrell and his wife, Lisa, all of Crossville,
and Whitney Agee of Texas; step-grandchildren, Tasha and Dino
Swafford of Crossville, Danny Carey of Texas and Chad McKeg of
Iowa; step-great-grandchildren, Briana and Ian Hiestand; niece

Benjamin Thomas (Tom) Brady Jr., 83, of Crab Orchard, passed

Cemetery in Grandview, TN. Bro. Douglas Hodge officiated, with

Mr. Brady was born Aug. 22, 1920 in Cumberland County, the son
of Benjamin Thomas Brady Sr. and Dora Alice Garrison Brady.
He was a World War II Army veteran and retired from the Mueller
Company in Chattanooga in 1980. Shortly thereafter, he returned
to his homeland in Cumberland County. After sustaining life-changing
injuries from a car accident in 1997, he resided with his surviving
daughter, Connie Brady, for 5 1/2 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Brady of Soddy Daisy;
grandsons, Brian and Evan Brady of Soddy Daisy; sister, Ann Hook
of Crossville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,

Harold Prentice Irwin, 61, of Crossville, passed away May 25,
2004. A memorial service was conducted May 29 at the First United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carleton Thackston and the Rev.
Sandra Shawhan officiating.
Mr. Irwin was born April 8, 1943 in Williamson County, TN, the
son of Harris Dee Irwin and Virginia Corine Skinner Irwin.
He was a purchasing agent for the state of Tennessee and was
of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Davis Irwin of Crossville;
daughter, Deborah Ann Irwin of Franklin; sons, Harold Porter
Irwin of Hohenwald, TN and Mickey Lee Irwin of Miami, FL; stepsons,
Tyler Emerson Biss of Cookeville and Bryon Elliott Biss of Crossville;
three grandchildren; brother, Wayne Carroll Irwin of Tullahoma,
TN; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Pulley of Nashville.

Mary McCrary, 67, of Crossville, passed away June 2, 2004. Funeral
services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, from the
Lighthouse Baptist Church in Crossville. Pastor David Rowan will
officiate, with interment following in the Mayland Cemetery in
the Mayland community of Cumberland County. The family will receive
friends at the church before the funeral beginning at 11 a.m.
Mrs. McCrary was born Feb. 28, 1937 in Lower Sleith, WV, to the
late French and Elvia Miller Stalnaker.
She was a retired nurse's aide in Barberton, OH and a member
of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Crossville.
Survivors include her husband, J.B. McCrary of Crossville; daughter,
Deborah Elaine Idell of Crossville; son, Robert Lee Idell of
Toluca, IL; grandchild, Rebecca Idell; sisters, Edith Prince

Charyn Anne Parker, 57, of Crossville, passed away June 1, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 5, from
the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Hank Jones
officiating. Visitation will be held two hours before the service.
Mrs. Parker was born Aug. 28, 1946 in Chicago, IL, the daughter
of George Henry Vaupell and Marion Elizabeth Vaupell.
She was an office manager at Rush University Medical Center in
Chicago, IL before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, William J. Parker of Crossville;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and MaryBeth Vaupell of La
Grange, IL and Geoffery and Gale Vaupell of Westchester, IL;
and sister, Victoria Peterson of Oak Park, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Henry Vaupell
and Marion Elizabeth Vaupell.

Morris Elmer Ringley, 86, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May
25, 2004. Graveside services were conducted May 27 at Green Acres
Memory Gardens.
Mr. Ringley was born Dec. 7, 1917 in Pickett County, TN, the
son of Lawrence E. and Retta M. Hill Ringley.
He was a press operator for Trade-A-Plane and was of the Protestant
faith. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World
War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Johnson of Powell, TN;
sons, Bill Ringley of Tampa, FL and Barry Ringley of Colorado
Springs, CO; six grandchildren; and brother, Kirby Ringley of
Monticello, KY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Bernice Conaster Ringley; sisters, Thelma Hedgecoth, Leida Ringley
and Anita Ringley; and brothers, Delmer, Dock, Jack and Carl
Ringley.

Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) John Norman Brandon Sr., 73, of Radcliff, KY,
passed away May 22, 2004, at Ireland Army Community Hospital
at Fort Knox. Funeral services were conducted May 26 at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett
Funeral Home in Radcliff, KY, with Bro. Henry Hanna officiating.
Burial with military honors was in North Hardin Memorial Gardens.
He was an Army veteran of Vietnam, retiring after 30 years of
service. He received the following awards: Combat Infantry Badge,
Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC),
Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Good
Conduct Medal (10th award), National Defense Service Medal (1OLC),
Vietnam Campaign Medal (four stars), Non-Commissioned Officer
Education Ribbon (third award), Overseas Service Ribbon (fourth
award), Expert Marksmanship Badge (Tank Weapons, Pistol, Rifle)
and Vietnam Service Ribbon.
After retirement, he served as a realtor and was executive director
of the Radcliff Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), American
Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, Brandon; sons and daughters-in-law,
John N. Jr. and Mary Brandon of Louisville, KY, Thomas E. and
Kim Brandon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Maj. Mark S. and Ingra

Funeral services were conducted May 30 at Hebron Church of Christ,

Mrs. Clendenon was born Oct. 8, 1909 in Warren County, TN, the
daughter of Fate Panter and Mary Scott.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Church of Christ.
Survivors include her sons, James Clendenon of McMinnville and
Harold Clendenon of Crossville; four grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lofton C. Clendenon.

Troy Lynn Foust, 56, of Crossville, passed away May 31, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at
Central Baptist Church in Crossville. Roland Smith will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday,
June 3, at Leach Cemetery in Lake City, TN.
Mr. Foust was born Dec. 21, 1947 in Lake City, TN, the son of
Carl and Willene Foust.
He was a basketball and football coach and teacher at Monterey
High School from 1972-2000. He served in Vietnam from 1971 to
1972 with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).
Survivors include his wife, Linda Foust of Crossville; daughters
and sons-in-law, Melody Elaine and J.C. York and Crystal Lynn
and Adam Brown, all of Murfreesboro; granddaughter, Hannah Leigh
York; and sister and brother-in-law, Sissy and Steve Blizzard
of Clinton, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Willene Foust.
The Veterans Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Roger Snyder, David Landrum, Tim Leinart,
Paul Leinart, Joe Leinart and Steve Blizzard.

Sewell David Givens, 82, of Rockwood, formerly of Crossville,
passed away May 28, 2004. A homecoming celebration was held May
30 from the First Baptist Church in Rockwood, with the Rev. Rick
Roberts and the Rev. Ernie Willis officiating. Burial followed
in the Daysville Cemetery.
Mr. Givens was a retired educator at Cumberland County High School.
An ordained minister, he earned his B.A. degree from Carson-Newman
College with <I>cum laude<I> distinction. He earned
his M.A. degree at Tennessee Technological University. He was
a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his sister, Hazel Justice of Rockwood; and
a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Florence Givens;
sisters, Anna Mae Givens, Cecil Givens, Ludia Sutton, Selma Hamilton
and Della Ledbetter; and brothers, Arthur Givens, Floyd Givens
and Vernon Givens.

George Tutterow

George Tutterow, 89, of Crossville, passed away May 25, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted May 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev.
David Wilkerson officiated with remarks by his nephew, Dr. Curtis
Tutterow, Roy Stone and Tom Hendon. Special music was by Shirley
Vess, Carol Marr and the Happy Hearts Choir.
Mr. Tutterow was born June 20, 1914 in Roane County, TN, the
son of Tom and Alice Harvey Tutterow.
He was a deacon and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.
He was one of the original employees of Trade-A-Plane, retiring
in 1976 after 34 years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed doing
volunteer work for the hospital installing lifelines.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Thelma Mee Tutterow;
daughter, Rita DeFrees of Crossville; sisters, Grace Tutterow
and Vivian Russell of Kingston; several nephews and a niece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers,
J.B. and Harvey Tutterow; nieces, Susan Russell and Martha Sue
Tutterow; and son-in-law, Jon W. DeFrees.

Arthur Wright, 95, of Crossville, passed away May 24, 2004. Graveside
services were conducted May 27 at Linary Cemetery, with the Rev.
Pete Ullmann officiating.
Mr. Wright was born Dec. 2, 1908 in Armbrust, PA, the son of
Lloyd Nelson and Jessie Hart Wright.
He was a retired systems engineer for Bell Telephone and a United
States Army veteran, having served our country during World War
II. He was one of the founders of the Cumberland County Humane
Society and remained very active in the society. He was also
a member of the Exchange Club, Cumberland County Senior Center
and Bell Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Frances Wright of Crossville;
son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Joyce Wright of Sarasota,
FL; daughter, Janice Wright of Holmes Beach, FL; sister, Dorothy
Gunderson of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren, Bryan, Keith, Jared
and Corinne Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
