Cemetery, Washington, DC, Sept. 26, 2005.

His education was interrupted by World War II when he joined
the U.S. Navy to become a fighter pilot.
A prime example of America's greatest generation, he served as
a Naval aviator in the European, North American, South American
and Pacific Theaters of World War II. Upon retirement from the

man, he spoke and acted with firm personal conviction and was
an unquestioned leader of men. He was an expert aviator, having

professional pilot whose diligence and uncompromising performance
commanded immediate respect. He had a wry sense of humor cloaked

success. His rare presence will be sorely missed. The world seems
a lesser place without him.
