Glen F. Dale
Nov. 15, 1919 - July 27, 2004
"Glen" Fred Dale, 84, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 27, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Pulley officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Mr. Dale was born Nov. 15, 1919 in Spruce Pine, NC, the son of Charles and Lessie Glenn Dale.
He was a World War II Marine veteran having served in the South Pacific for 32 months and was a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. He lived in many places including Blowing Rock, Brevard and Marion, NC; Key West, FL; and Cypress and Camarillo, CA. He attended Western Carolina University in Cullowee, NC and Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
He was retired as vice president of sales at Fairfield Glade where he worked for many years. An award is given each year to the top salesperson in Glen's honor. He and Sharon provided Thanksgiving dinners to the shut-ins and handicapped for nine years, serving 543 people the last year.

Kimberly D. M. Houston
July 11, 1963 - July 25, 2004

Kimberly Denise Morgan Houston, 41, passed away July 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 29 from Robertson County Funeral Home of Springfield, TN, with Dr. Farris Moore officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Houston was born July 11, 1963 in New Jersey, the daughter of Harry and Rosalie Reynolds Morgan.
She was an IT manager for Caterpillar Financial Services.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Rick Houston; children, Tyler Brandon Houston and Emily Grace Houston, all of Springfield; brothers, Todd Morgan and David Morgan; and sisters, Vicki Krebs and Carol Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Monroe and Grace Reynolds; and paternal grandmother, Zell Morgan.

Lucille Owens
July 24, 1912 - July 25, 2004

Lucille Owens, 92, of Crossville, passed away July 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 28 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Bill Roberts officiated.
Mrs. Owens was born July 24, 1912 in Hansonville, VA, the daughter of John and Emily A. Mays Holt.
She was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, VA in 1935. On Jan. 5, 1939, she married her husband of 65 years, Paul E. Owens.
Survivors include her husband, Paul E. Owens of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Cindy Owens of Crossville and Terry and Amy Owens of San Antonio, TX; sister, Maude Weddle of Bristol, TN; grandchildren, Tiffany Coughlin, Buffy Stancel, Holly Owens, Leigh Ann Owens, Tiffiny Thomasson, Tami Thomasson and Matt Thomasson; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Coughlin, Carter Coughlin and Dante Thomasson.
Pallbearers were Ralph Padgett, Gordon Hedgecoth, Morris Kendrick, Red Turner, John Eldridge and James Perry.
Honorary pallbearers were the Memorial Baptist Middle Men Sunday school class.

Anna C. Soriano
Sept. 10, 1917 - July 23, 2004

Anna C. Soriano, 86, of Pleasant Hill, passed away July 23, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 26 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff Gibson officiated.
Mrs. Soriano was born Sept. 10, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Charles and Fay Huddleston Krapf.
She was a retired registered nurse and a retired teacher. She was also a member of the United Church of Christ. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and attended Michigan State University. She obtained a bachelor's degree in nursing and a bachelor's and master's degree in education. She was an Army cadet nurse and a charter member of the University of Pittsburgh Heinz Chapel Choir.
Survivors include her brothers, Robert C. Krapf of Pleasant Hill, Charles Krapf of Bradenton, FL and Herman Krapf of Richardson, TX; and sister, Mary E. Kessler of Akron, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fransisco Soriano.

Donald E. Stone
April 20, 1957 - July 20, 2004

Donald "Donnie" Elbert Stone, 47, of Crossville, passed away July 20, 2004. Graveside services were conducted July 25 at Davis Cemetery, with Bro. J.T. Davis officiating.
Mr. Stone was born April 20, 1957 in Bledsoe County, TN, the son of Elbert Stone and Minnie Scarbrough Singleton.
He was a construction worker.
Survivors include his mother, Minnie Singleton of Pikeville; companion, Lisa Reagan of Crossville; sons, Donnie, James and Samuel Stone; daughters, Elizabeth and Sandy Stone, all of Crossville; brother, Terry Scarbrough of Pikeville; and sister, Brenda Scarbrough of Ringgold, GA.

Stoney G. Young
Oct. 11, 1940 - July 22, 2004

Stoney G. (Gene) Young passed away July 22, 2004.
He was retired from Johnson & Construction Company.
Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Young of Crossville; wife of 44 years, Ruby West Young; three children, Clyde and Steven Young and Jo Ann Moneymaker, all of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth (Liz) and Bill Bell of Decatur, GA; half-brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carole Ramsburg of Crossville; grandchildren, Tiffany Young, Morgan and Shelby Baker, all of Knoxville; and many other friends and relatives who will miss him very much.
He is preceded in death by his father, John H. Young.
He was saved and a member of Ball Road Independent Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ball Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 6323 Ball Road, Knoxville, TN 37931.
The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses and other staff of NHC-Knoxville Nursing Home, St. Mary's Hospital and Adventa Hospice and their many friends and loved ones who offered words of encouragement and prayers throughout his illness.

A memorial service for Ralph Eugene Swain will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2004. The services will be held at the Calvary Presbyterian Church of Big Lick at 10077 Vandever Road. The Rev. Pete Ullman will officiate.

William Jefferson Dyer
March 20, 1922 - July 18, 2004
William (Bill) Jefferson Dyer, 82, of Hermitage, TN, passed away July 18, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Fentress County Memorial Gardens, with military honors of presentation of the flag and "Taps." Bro. Dennis Trimble officiated, with special singing by Jean Trimble.
Mr. Dyer was born March 20, 1922 in Cumberland County, the son of George Lee Dyer and Ester Beatrice Simpson Dyer.
He was a security guard at Cumberland Medical Center and was of the Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Bataan Death March survivor.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Trimble Dyer of Hermitage, TN; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Susan Trimble of Atlanta, GA, Dennis and Jean Trimble of Muncie, IN and Douglas Trimble of Madison, TN; stepdaughters, Denice Nance of Sweetwater, TN and Drema Trimble of Hermitage, TN; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gene Dyer of Crossville; and sister, Wilma Lewis of Elyria, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Pugh; and five brothers, John Richard Dyer, Gordon Dyer, Haston Dyer, Lee Dyer and Roy Dyer.

William (Billy) Joseph Brown, 67, of Crossville, passed away July 12, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bros. Vern Daugherty and Johnny B. Reeves officiated.
Mr. Brown was born Nov. 6, 1936 in Cumberland County, the son of James Harry Brown and Reba Sheldon Brown.
He was head produce manager at Kroger and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Kerley Brown of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Turner of Cookeville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Brown of Crossville; and sisters, Jackie Vaden and Fanna Lou Sherrill, both of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Jeffrey Brown; and brother, Jimmy R. Brown.

Mr. Benge was born July 30, 1980 in Xenia, OH, the son of John and Nancy Allen Benge.
He was a laborer.

Willis G. Brewer
July 6, 1924 - July 15, 2004

Willis G. "George" Brewer, 80, of Crossville, passed away July 15, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 18 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Davis Cemetery. Rudy Oakes of Winesap Freewill Baptist Church officiated.
Mr. Brewer was born July 6, 1924 in Cumberland County, the son of Doug and Anna Davis Brewer.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Lawson Brewer; sons and daughter-in-law, Daryl Brewer and Keith and Laura Brewer; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and David Clark; grandchildren, Misty Young, Shelbi Rena Brewer and Beth Ann Brewer; great-grandson, Riley Christopher Young; and sister, Cleo Potter.

James M. Lewis
Sept. 30, 1932 - July 16, 2004

James M. Lewis, 71, of Gallatin, TN, passed away July 16, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 19 at First Baptist Church, Gordonsville, TN, with Dr. Jim Carr, Bro. Orlie J. Wood and Bro. James M. Lewis Jr. officiating. Interment and graveside services were held at Smith Chapel Cemetery, Sparta, TN.
Mr. Lewis was born Sept. 30, 1932 in Clifty, TN, the son of the late Josie Edmonds and William Kell Lewis.
He was a salesman with Malone and Hyde prior to 1979, then worked at Textron, Inc., Nashville before retiring in 1994.
He was married to Maxine Wood on June 16, 1951 and they lived in the Crossville area for 20 years, then in Gordonsville for 21 years before moving to Gallatin. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, TN.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Maxine Wood Lewis of Gallatin, TN; son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Kathy Lewis Jr. of Southhaven, MS; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Robert Hawn of Gallatin, TN; brother, Bill Lewis of St. Albans, WV; sisters, Ellen Anderson of Whitesville, WV and Mamie Lee Burgess of Crossville, TN; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Eston Lewis, Mutt Lewis, Cleo Cope and Zana Anderson.

Harold R. "Ray" Potter, 59, of Joliet, IL, passed away July 13, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 18 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Dan Hivley officiated, with music by Mark and Jan Madden.
Mr. Potter was born March 12, 1945 in Lancing, TN, the son of Charles E. Potter and Cloie Potter.
He was retired from Union Oil Company after many years of service.
Survivors include his father, Charles E. Potter of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Glenna Potter of Joliet, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Charline and Vernon Bonham of Clarkrange; niece, Erika Kehlet Jr. and her husband, Brent; nephews, Shane Bonham, Chuck Potter and his wife, Tina, all of Joliet, IL; great-niece, Cloie Kehlet; and many friends including special friend, Ryan Smid.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cloie Potter; twin brother, Roy Potter; and brother, Lee Potter.

Nervy M. P. Seagraves
Feb. 3, 1930 - July 14, 2004

Nervy Mae Phillips Seagraves, 74, of Monterey, passed away July 14, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 17 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with interment in Phillips Cemetery in the Anderson community. The Rev. Bobby Floyd officiated.
Mrs. Seagraves was born Feb. 3, 1930 in Overton County, the daughter of Emby and Clemmie Vaughn Phillips.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Lee Seagraves of Pleasant Hill; sisters, Mertie Jackson and Linda Walker, both of Monterey; and brothers, Marshall and Arnold Phillips, both of Monterey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie and Lowrails Phillips; and brothers, Jack and L.J. Phillips.

Linda S. Young
Feb. 20, 1947 - July 9, 2004

Linda Sue Young, 57, of Cookeville, passed away July 9, 2004. Graveside services were conducted July 11 at Crossville City Cemetery, with Bro. Mike Garrett officiating, and special singing by Bro. Mike Garrett and family friend, Joel Richards.
Ms. Young was born Feb. 20, 1947 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of George Dean Young Sr. and Lena Kemmer Young.
She was a licensed practical nurse and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Marty Tays of Cookeville; former husband, Carl Tays of Cookeville; brother, John K. Young of Chattanooga; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Eich of Cookeville and Cora and Jack Cole of Crossville; many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunts, Mary Thomason, Agnes Kemmer, Sherdia Mitchell and Mary Rose Kemmer, all of Crossville, and Ola Johnson of Akron, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George D. Young Jr.; and sister, Donna Young Roberts.

James E. Welch

James "Jimmy" Edward Welch, 55, of Crossville, passed away June 28, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 1 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bro. Randy Bilbrey officiated.
Mr. Welch was born Aug. 31, 1948 in Cumberland County, the son of Grady and Lois Muesing Welch.
He was employed as a mason and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Bailey Welch of Crossville; son, James Ray Welch of Cookeville; daughter, Marsha Pauline Simmons of Crossville; grandchildren, Jonathan, James Austin and Kelcie; brothers, Grady Welch of Crossville, Sam Welch of Nashville, Jerry Welch of Crossville, Ernie Welch of Ashland City, TN and Gaines Welch of Nashville; and sister, Virginia Hendrix of Smyrna.

James A. Blair
Oct. 10, 1928 - June 25, 2004

The Rev. James Andrew Blair, 75, of Crossville, passed away June 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted June 27 at Crossville First Freewill Baptist Church and June 29 at Troy Freewill Baptist Church in Troy, OH, with burial in Miami Memorial Gardens in Covington, OH.
The Rev. Blair was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Paintsville, KY, the son of Hollie and Elizabeth Blair.
He was a retired minister, a member of Williams Road Freewill Baptist Church and attended Crossville First Freewill Baptist. He pastored for more than 30 years in the Ohio area and was the founder of Troy Freewill Baptist Church in Troy, OH. He truly loved taking care of his people in the church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served our country during Korea.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Blair of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Vivian Blair of Troy, OH and Lynn and Joan Blair of Marion, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Justin Looper of Rickman, TN; brother, Elmer Blair of Springfield, OH; sisters, Geraldine Blair of New Carlisle, OH and Lorrine Hannah of Leander, KY; uncle, Gail Blair of Paintsville, KY; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Blair and Imogene O'Brien; and brother, Earl Blair.

John D. Kirkland
July 2, 2004

John David Kirkland, 65, of Rockwood, passed away July 2, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 4 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary, with the Rev. Bobby Carmichael officiating. Graveside services and interment were held July 5 from Daysville Cemetery.
Mr. Kirkland was of the Baptist faith. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, a loving husband and father. He enjoyed hunting and taking his grandkids fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Kirkland of Rockwood; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Darlene and Michael Morris of Smyrna, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lynn and Pam Kirkland and David Scott and Angela Kirkland, all of Rockwood; grandchildren, Chris, Kimberly and Jeremy Ledbetter; and Scotty, Allie, Tanner and Logan Kirkland; great-grandchildren, Chase Roderick and Bryson Ledbetter; brothers and sisters-in-law, R.L. and Ellegiah Kirkland, Bobby Kirkland, Jody and Sharon Kirkland, Jerry Kirkland and Melvin and Connie Kirkland, all of Crossville; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Hollis Davis, Wanda and Ray Waldrop and Debra and Rex Dalton, all of Crossville.

Martha A. B. Lee

Martha Ann Bilbrey Lee, 52, of Crossville, passed away June 29, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 1 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bowman Cemetery. Bro. Donald Wattenbarger officiated.
Mrs. Lee was born March 1, 1952 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Jessie and Lora Woody Bilbrey.
She was a postal worker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her brother, J.D. Bilbrey of Crossville; half-brother, Hoover Baldwin of Crossville; sisters, Betty Miller and Beatrice Bruce of Crossville and Sue Gentry of Red Boiling Springs, TN; half-sisters Levella Downs, Eva Wade and Dorthy Grant, all of Muncie, IN; and special friend, Raymond Rhodes of Crossville.

Gerald L. Squires, 79, of Crossville, passed away July 2, 2004.
Mr. Squires was born May 22, 1925 in Jackson, MI, the son of Lloyd Squires and Mildred Pickard Squires.
He worked in the dry cleaning business and was of the Apostolic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wood Squires of Crossville; sons, Gerald Squires of Deland, FL, Richard Squires of Jackson, MI, Kenneth Squires of Columbia, MO and Randy Squires of Crossville; daughters, Shyrl Payne of Jackson, MI and Katrina Elkins of Crossville; brothers, Paul Squires and Bill Squires, both of Jackson, MI; sisters, Lillian Jankowski of Jackson, MI and Pauline Nelson of Ann Arbor, MI; 28 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pamala M. Williams

Pamala Mae Williams, 50, of Crossville, passed away July 2, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 4 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Holbert Delk officiated, with special music by family tapes.
Mrs. Williams was born Oct. 14, 1953 in Garden City, MI, the daughter of George Brant Sr. and Margaret Baker Brant.
She was an accountant and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore Williams Jr. of Crossville; sons, Theodore G. Williams III of Belleville, MI and Marc Williams of Wayne, MI; daughter, Nannette Williams of Wayne, MI; mother, Margaret Brant of Wayne, MI; brothers, George Brant Jr. of Wayne, MI and Jerry Brant of Wayne, MI; sister, Norma Glover of Pucksatowni, PA; and grandchildren, Connor, Madison, Theo IV and Morgan.
Pallbearers were Mark Williams, Keven O'Sullivan, Walter Steven Misiak, Darryl Williams, Ted Williams III and Matt Williams.

Evelyn A. Bitting
July 25, 1910 - July 1, 2004

Evelyn Amanda Bitting, 93, of Crossville, passed away July 1, 2004. A graveside service will be held July 30 at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
Mrs. Bitting was born July 25, 1910, in Allentown PA, the daughter of Elias and Anna Fritz Creitz.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Barry L. and Maria Bitting of Crossville and Glenn E. Bitting of Bogota, NJ; daughter-in-law, Virginia Bitting of Maryland; grandchildren, Robert Bitting of Maryland and Michael Bitting of Texas; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna Funk of Allentown, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Bitting; son, Louis Bitting; granddaughters, Suzanne Lynn Bitting and LeeAnn Marie Bitting; and sister, Bertha Rothermel.

Donald R. Byrge
March 31, 1959 - June 26, 2004

Donald Ray Byrge, 45, of Crossville, passed away June 26, 2004. Funeral services were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Ralph Reagan officiated.
Mr. Byrge was born March 31, 1959 in Cumberland County, the son of McKinley and Geraldine Griffin Byrge.
He was a truck driver and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Whited Byrge of Jamestown; daughter, Debra Byrge of Crossville; son, Danny Byrge of Jamestown; father and stepmother, McKinley and Gail Byrge of Crossville; brothers, David Byrge of Kentucky, James Byrge of Michigan and Paul and Thomas Byrge of Cookeville; sister, Fran Cottrell of Cookeville; and stepsister, Tammy Neal of Crossville.
Pallbearers were Frankie Hedgecoth, Tim Maxwell, Terry Christopher, Tim Tollett, David Byrge and Harold Christopher.

Ida Mae Redwine
Sept. 30, 1920 - June 27, 2004

Ida Mae Redwine, 83, of Crab Orchard, passed away June 27, 2004. Funeral services were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. David Dial officiating. Graveside services were held June 30 at Bat Town Cemetery.
Mrs. Redwine was born Sept. 30, 1920 in Crossville, the daughter of Pleas and Sarah Houston Smith.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver Redwine of Crab Orchard; sons, Jerry Redwine of Hebbertsburg and Paul and Larry Redwine, both of Crab Orchard; daughter, Liz Alley of Crab Orchard; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Alice Lowery of Ozone, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Douglas Redwine; brothers, Kermit, Delmer, Bill and Clyde Smith; and sisters, Marie Pugh and Edith Harris.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Ronnie Redwine, Christopher Redwine, Troy Redwine, Stuart Alley, Cindy Tabor, Melinda Turner, Kelly Spurlock and Rachel Alley.
