John Eldon Auvil, 64, of Crossville, formerly of Lapeer, MI,
passed away Dec. 22, 2005. Funeral services will be conducted
at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, from the Capstick Chapel of Lynch
& Sons Funeral Directors, 542 Nepessing St., downtown Lapeer,
MI. Interment will be in Dawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Auvil was born Oct. 1, 1941 in Philippi, WV, the son of Kenneth
and Betty (Edge) Auvil.
He served in the Army and retired from ACC and General Motors.
He was a member of the Michigan Road Riders Motorcycle Club of
Lapeer. He will be missed by his many friends at Morningside
RV Estates in Dade City, FL.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Barbara; stepchildren,
Vickie (Tim) Lipka, Julie (Edward) Vakula, Albert Schug, Joey
Schug and Robert "Bobby" Fisher; step-grandchildren,
Timothy and Jamie Lipka, David and Gary Winstead, and Katlyn
and Andrea Fisher; siblings, Barbara (Bob) Aniol, Richard (Victoria)
Auvil, Paul "Rusty" Bell and Sandi Auvil; aunt, Virginia
Edge of Moatsville, WV; nephews, John, Wayne, Matt and David
Edge; and also many other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former
wife, Geraldine; brother, Kenneth Auvil; and step-grandson, Ramie
Lipka.

C.W. Clabo, 78, of Rockwood, passed away Dec. 22, 2005. Funeral
services were conducted Dec. 27 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary
of Rockwood, with the Rev. Charles Christopher officiating. Graveside
services and interment followed in the Daysville Cemetery with
full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor
Guard.
Mr. Clabo was born Sept. 20, 1927 in Sevierville, TN.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Before his
retirement, he was a pipeline worker with Halls Construction
Company.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Clabo of Rockwood; daughters,
Ann Cline of New Bern, NC, Bonnie Pinder of Jupiter, FL, Petie
Baldwin of Powell and Deborah Martin of Kernersville, NC; sons,
Steve Clabo of Gatlinburg, Billy Clabo of Chattanooga, Gary Clabo
of Chattanooga and Dirk Culvahouse of Harriman; grandchildren,
Emilee Baldwin, Kelli Hutchinson, Dillon Martin, April Martin,
Destiny Hester, Colin Holder and Steve Clabo Jr.; several great-grandchildren;
and sisters, Ruby Tallent, Iva Tallent and Ora Hatcher, all of
Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Ray Clabo.

John Frank Daniele, 64, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 22, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home, with Bro. Ralph Reagan and Bro. Mike Garrett officiating.
Interment was in East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville.
Mr. Daniele was born June 14, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of
John and Mary (Cuozzo) Daniele.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He
was retired from the Internal Revenue Service and was of the
Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Milstead) Daniele of Crossville;
sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Sherry Daniele of Acworth,
GA and Robert and Michelle Hook of White Plains, MD; daughters
and son-in-law, Michelle Lee Daniele of Cromwell, CT and Cindy
Marie and Ralph Sinnott of Waldorf, MD; granddaughter, Ashley
Marie Sinnott of Waldorf, MD; and sister, Josephine Weigel of
Casselbury, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Rachel (Beilinson) Daniele; and brother, Patrick Henry Daniele.

Benny Milton Howell, 78, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Dec.
25, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday,
Dec. 29, at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with
May Mayo officiating.
Mr. Howell was born Aug. 27, 1927 in South Bend, IN, the son
of Elam Delbert Howell and Bernice Milleken Howell.
He retired after 34 years with Amoco Oil Company where he was
employed as an administrative coordinator. He also served in
the U.S. Navy for four years and was a member of the Fairfield
Glade United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Howell; children, Pamela
Sue Bender, Kim Marie Thrasher, Scott William Howell and Shawn
Delbert Howell; grandchildren, Monica Leigh Bender, Benjamin
Howell, Ryan Henson, Stephanie Ann Howell, Allison Rose Howell
and Jason Thrasher; brother, Dean Howell; sister, Linda Uglam;
six nephews and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son,
Randolph Scott Howell; and brothers, Ed and Larry Howell.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be

Charlie Lewis

Charlie Lewis, 88, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 29, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 2 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home, with Bro. Don Randolph officiating. Interment was
in Mayland Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis was born March 1, 1917 in Raleigh, NC, the son of Ellen
(King) and Jake Lewis.
He was a member of Browns Chapel Church of God and served in
the United States Army during World War II. He was a hunting
guide at Caryonah Hunting Lodge.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Maggie
Lewis and Roy and Faye Lewis, all of Crossville; sister, Dora
Smith of Kodak, TN; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Lora Mae (Lowe) Lewis; daughter, Betty White; and brothers, Homer
Lewis, Garfield Lewis, General Lewis and Bruce Lewis; and sister,
Betty Farr.
Pallbearers were William Cardin, Armend Cardin, Rocky Dennis,
Joe Reagan, Jerry Kilgore and Terry Bilbrey.

Russell McDonnough

Russell McDonnough, 82, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 17, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 20 from Pyatt-Harrawood
Funeral Home of Pinckneyville, IL, with Rob Mathis officiating.
Burial was in Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Mr. McDonnough was born July 26, 1923 in DuQuoin, IL, the son
of Robert and Effie Dora Davis McDonnough.
He was a coal miner before retiring, a member of United Mine
Workers of America and served in the United States Army during
World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis McDonnough of Crossville;
sons, Michael (Pam) McDonnough of Emden, IL, Patrick (Jane) McDonnough
of Mt. Pulaski, IL and Mark McDonnough of Crossville; brother,
Homer Ray "Pete" (Wilma) McDonnough of Pinckneyville,
IL; sisters, Dee (James) Getzie of Pinckneyville, IL and Verlean
(Don) Henson of Christopher, IL; nine grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister,
half-sister and three half-brothers.

Walter Eugene Miracle, 82, of Rockwood, passed away Dec. 20,
2005. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. EST Friday, Dec.
23, from the chapel of Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, with the Rev.
Mike Nelson officiating. Graveside services and interment will
follow in the Dogwood Cemetery in Cumberland County.
Mr. Miracle was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Harlan County, KY, the
son of James and Anna Robbins Miracle.
He attended the Mt. Vernal Baptist Church in the Westel community
of Rockwood.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Miracle of Westel; daughters,
Thelma Kendrick of Chatsworth, GA and Barbara Coffey Conyers
and husband John Jr. of Chattanooga; son, Dale Coffey of Crossville;
grandchildren, Adam Miracle, Cody Miracle, Gina Hawkins, Stephany
Sun, Rae Gutierrez, Kenny Kendrick and Keith Kendrick; great-grandchildren,
Kenneth Hawkins, Caycee Kendrick and River Kendrick; sisters,
Maxine Kelley of Green Cove Springs, FL, Lucille Alexander of
Knoxville and Novella Glass of Kentucky; brothers, Dale Miracle
and Glen Miracle of Green Cove Springs, FL, and Sonny Miracle
of Knoxville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mildred Cochran

Mildred Minnise Powell Vantrease Cochran, 77, of Fairfield Glade,
passed away Dec. 18, 2005. A memorial service will be held at
11 a.m. Dec. 29 at Fairfield Glade Community Church, with the
Rev. Dale Marshall officiating.
Mrs. Cochran was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Detroit, MI, the daughter
of Joseph and Mildred Powell.
She graduated from Hazel Park High School, Michigan; earned a
four-year scholarship to Hillsdale College, Michigan; attended
Wayne State University in Detroit and Detroit Bible College.
She taught sewing school until her retirement in 1985 and was
a member of Metro Detroit Bishop Teachers' Association. She also
worked in the children's choir at Berkley Community Church in
Berkley, MI, and was a member of Fairfield Glade Community Church,
embroidery club, quilting guild and Helping Hands which she was
instrumental in getting started. She was an original board member
and the only Spark Plug Award recipient to receive that high
honor for outstanding service unanimously. But first and foremost,
she was a mother.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Mayotte of Sterling Heights,
MI; daughters-in-law, Carol Tonkin and JoAnn Vantrease; several
grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, Daniel Powell; and
sister, Barbara Whiteside.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale B. Vantrease;
sons, Lawrence D. and Daniel B. Vantrease; and second husband,
Leonard Cochran.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made
to Habitat for Humanity or the Gideon Bible Program.

Ralph W. Lawrence Jr.

Ralph W. Lawrence Jr., 64, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Westerville,
OH, passed away Dec. 16, 2005. A memorial service will be held
at 11 a.m. Jan. 14, 2006 at Fairfield Glade Community Church.
The Rev. Dale Marshall will officiate.
Mr. Lawrence was born Sept. 10, 1941 in Mineola, NY, the son
of Ralph W. Lawrence Sr. and Gertrude Ingles Lawrence of Orlando,
FL.
He met his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Judy Frost Lawrence,
during their undergraduate work at West Virginia Wesleyan College,
Buchannon, WV. He received his master's degree from Western Michigan
University in Kalamazoo, MI.
He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of
the Officers Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA. He retired
from the U.S. government as a computer scientist and was chief
of operations at DCSC in Columbus, OH. He was past Master of
the Blue Lodge in Battle Creek, MI, a member of the Blue Lodge
in Crossville, Alhambra Shrine, Scottish Rite in Chattanooga,
the Fairfield Glade Shrine Club and golfed with Charlie's Angels.
He was an active member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church,
Fairfield Glade Art Guild, Arts Council of Crossville, and the
Fairfield Glade Sportsman Club. He was a man of many talents.
Among them, he was a gifted lapidary, certified through the International
Gemological Association, and above all, a gourmet cook.
In addition to his wife, is survived by his daughters, Susan
(Michael) Schnitkey of Hilliard, OH; grandchildren, Anna and
Adam Schnitkey and Carolyn Lawrence of Los Angeles, CA; brother,
Roger (Loretta) Lawrence of Manhasset, Long Island, NY; sisters,
Heather Falco and Beverly (Brian) King of Orlando, FL; father-in-law,
Ernest Frost of Clairton, PA; brothers-in-law, E. Richard (Loretta)
Frost of Chillicothe, OH, Gerald (Maureen) Frost of Factoryville,
PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather
who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Anne C. Chapman
Dec. 13, 2005
Anne Cortis Chapman, 87, passed away Dec. 13, 2005. She was surrounded
by her daughter, son-in-law and loving nurses.
Though born in Chicago, IL she grew up in the Michigan area.
An only child, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy
Davis and Frederic Boyden Cortis.
Mrs. Chapman was very proud of her many volunteer opportunities,
including driving a Red Cross blood truck in France during World
War II; working with the St. Louis Zoo Association, Jr. League
and Mississippi River Festival; working in the hospitals as a
candy striper, and as a receptionist at a women's shelter.
She was a lifelong member and former treasurer of Mayflower Society
of Missouri and active in the parishes of the Catholic churches
that she attended. Above all, she was a dedicated homemaker and
mother as she raised her family in St. Louis, MO. She was preceded
in death by her first husband, Robert Ansel Freschi Sr., as well
as a son, Robert A. Freschi Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Matteson of Columbia,
MO, and her husband, Jim, as well as grandson Neil Matteson and
great-grandchildren Alyssa and Andrew Matteson of Seaside, CA;
and sons, Richard Freschi of St. Louis, MO and John Freschi of
Port St. Lucie, FL.
Anne and her second husband, Robert Edwin Chapman, enjoyed retirement
in Fairfield Glade, TN until he preceded her in death. They are
survived by his children, Beth Cooper and her husband, Max, of
Apex, NC; Susan Linden and her husband, Jim, of Loveland, CO;
Connie Chapman of Duncan, British Columbia; Jack Chapman and
his wife, Ellen, of St. Louis, MO; and Richard Chapman and his
wife, Nancy, of Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren, Matt and
Mike Cooper, Diana and Cris Linden, Carey Chapman Gates, and
Eric and Drew Chapman.
Her ashes will be interred at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church in Fairfield Glade, TN with a memorial service to follow
at a later date.

Ethel (Dixon) Lee, 77, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 14, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home, with Bro. Bob Hallatt officiating. Interment was
held Dec. 17 at Elmore Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee was born Sept. 24, 1928 in Crossville, the daughter
of Perry and Nancy Ann (Turner) Dixon.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Jessie Lee; sister, Amanda Jane Adams; and brothers,
Lloyd Dixon, Lee Dixon, Horace Dixon, Zack Dixon and Ray Dixon.
Pallbearers were Ross Dixon, Michael Dixon, Jeff Dixon, Eugene
Adams, Gary Adams, David Gibson, Terry McDonald, Jimmy Dixon,

Edward Dale Crabtree, 73, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 12,
2005. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 14 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Joey Whittenburg officiating.
Interment was in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Full military honors
were provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Crabtree was born Feb. 22, 1932 in Forbus, TN, the son of
Oakley and Maude (Davidson) Crabtree.
He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. He served in the United
States Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Genese Crabtree of Crossville; sons
and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Brenda Crabtree and Gary Crabtree,
all of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Dennis Hubbard
of Crossville; grandchildren, Sarah and Felicia Hubbard, and
Justin and Megan Crabtree; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret
and Robbie Maynard of Crossville; and brother and sister-in-law,
David and Doris of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers,
Frank and Billy Howard Crabtree.

Larry Norton Curley, 68, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 12,
2005.
Mr. Curley was born April 11, 1937 in Youngstown, OH, the son
of Frederick and Dorothy (Klingerman) Curley.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War
and was a retired police officer in Plantation, FL. He was a
beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Page) Curley of Crossville;
son, Shawn Curley of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanine
and Walter Smith and Marianne and Tim Smith, all of Crossville;
grandchildren, Timmy, Elizabeth and Rebecca; sister, Linda Campbell
of Davie, FL; and niece, Jennifer Campbell of Davie, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Billy Jack Hayton, 67, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 9, 2005.

Mr. Hayton was born Nov. 23, 1938 in Pikeville, KY, the son of
Delmon and Justavia Hayton.
He was retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Anderson Hayton; sons, Billy
Dale Hayton and Timothy Hayton, both of Crossville; daughter,
Lecia Hayton Flanary of Pikeville, KY; grandchildren, Nicholas

Doris Mae Reed, 83, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 12, 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, from
the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Pastor Scott Johnson will officiate
with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Family will receive
friends from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.
Mrs. Reed was born Dec. 1, 1922 in Rhea County, the daughter
of James Patrick and Daisy Simpson Underwood.
She was retired as a seamstress with Catoosa Knitting Mills and
attended Lantana Baptist Church. She loved to cross stitch and
enjoyed gardening and flower gardening.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Marilyn
Reed of Brentwood, Hoyt and Marie Reed of Franklin, Jimmy and
Sue Reed of Knoxville and Ronnie and Donitta Reed of Brentwood;
daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Fiske Minton of Franklin
and Joyce and Roger Heitschmidt of Charleston, SC; brother, Owen
K. Underwood of Blairsville, GA; sister-in-law, Gladys Reed of
Harrison, TN; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, William C. Reed; grandson, Lynn Reed; and six brothers
and sisters.

Ina Mae Sweetland, 101, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 20, 2005.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at
the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Crossville, with Pastor Jeremy
Arnall officiating. Funeral services and burial were held Nov.
30 in Morrisville, VT.
Mrs. Sweetland was born May 12, 1904 in Northfield, VT, the daughter
of David P. and Emilie Witham Sessions.
She was a homemaker and attended the Crossville Seventh-day Adventist
Church. She enjoyed crocheting and in the late 1940s started
one of the first home-based businesses with cards and gifts.
In the early 1920s, she worked as a clerk in a large country
store.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Loriane
Sweetland of Crossville; daughter-in-law, Laurel Sweetland of
Richford, VT; half sister, Gladys Griswold of Johnson, VT; two
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
sister, Ethelyn Sessions Rathburn; half sister, Calla Ainsworth
LaQue; husband, Bert E. Sweetland; son, Robert Sweetland; and
granddaughter, Kathy Sweetland.

John R. Emery, 80, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 3, 2005. Funeral
services were conducted Dec. 5 at Calvary Missionary Baptist
Church. Bro. Al Watkins officiating, with burial in Woody Cemetery.
Special music was provided by the Calvary Baptist Church Singers.
Mr. Emery was born July 31, 1925 in Harlan County, KY, the son
of Ishmeal Worth and Fidella Emily Woody Emery.
He was retired and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was
a Baptist deacon for 26 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran,
having served during Korea. His favorite joy was going to church
and working in the church. Favorite hobbies were woodworking,
refinishing antique furniture and being outdoors. He was a loving
and devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved being with

He was retired from Tennessee Technology Center as an auto mechanic
instructor and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United
States Army during World War II.

Patricia Ann Hoering of Crossville passed away Nov. 26, 2005
after fighting lung cancer for the past six months. She moved
to Crossville in November 1996.
Mrs. Hoering was born Oct. 5, 1941 in New York City. She worked
for the state of New York for the WIC program, which takes care
of mothers and young children.
In Crossville, she was a member of Fair Park and the Wood Carving
Club, was past president of Sherwood Farms Neighborhood Association
and was a member of the 278th Family Support Group from November
2004 until the time of her death. She was also a member of the
American Legion Unit 163 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Ronald, Douglas and Timothy; and grandchildren,
Valerie, Vanessa, Chris and Malcomb.
She will be missed by family and friends and by her husband,
Ron Hoering, who will always love her.

Lawrence Joseph Kareka passed away Dec. 5, 2005. Funeral services
were held in Moscow, PA.
Mr. Kareka was born Feb. 15, 1921 in Scranton, PA, the son of
John Joseph and Pearl (Kudajewski) Kareka.
He attended and graduated from the Moscow, PA schools in 1939.
He was an oiler with the Merchant Marines, sailing the ships
on the Great Lakes. He was also employed by Gouldsboro (PA) Transformer
Plant and Tobyhanna (PA) Army Depot.
He married his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth "Betty"
Wittenbreder, in 1951. They lived in the Moscow, PA area until
1990, when they moved to Tennessee. After his wife passed away
in 1991, he then lived with his son, Larry, in Crossville for
his remaining years. Larry loved to tell his stories about sailing
on the Great Lakes and about the early years of his life to everyone.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Janette
Kareka of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Wayne
Barto of Knoxville and Cheryl and Bill Foster of DeFuniak Springs,
FL; sister, Helen Tyndall of Hyannis, MA; granddaughters, Jolene
Barto and Jennifer Foster; step-grandson, Nicholas Davis; step-granddaughter,
Brittany Davis; and 23 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly
missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wittenbreder; and
brother, Edward Kareka.

Mrs. Stevens graduated from Cumberland County High School and
attended Roane State Community College. She was owner and director
of Momma Sue's Daycare. She was a member of Morrison Hill Christian
Church. She served her community as a Girl Scout leader, girls'
softball coach, and a representative and chairman of the Parks
and Recreation Committee. She also served on the selection committee
for Habitat for Humanity.

Peterson of Washington, DC, Vickie Watson of Kingston and Katherine
and David Ballard of Cookeville; grandchildren, Cory and Casey

Mrs. Berry was born Feb. 14, 1933 in Cumberland County, the daughter
of Vernon and Bertha (Mathis) Sherrill.
She was united in marriage to Roy Berry on Dec. 4, 1949, a union
that was blessed with two daughters and two sons. She had lived
in the Richmond, IN, community most of her life. She was a homemaker
and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was
a faithful member of the North 27 Worship Center. She enjoyed
gardening, flowers and her two schnauzers.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Berry; daughters and sons-in-law,
Linda and Pastor Robert E. Johnson and Paula Berry Allen and
Donny Allen, all of Richmond, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Ron

Josephine Arra Hawke, 81, of Goodlettsville, TN, passed away
at home Oct. 9, 2005. She was loved by all who knew her. Mrs.
Hawke was preceded in death by her husband, Earle Hawke, who
died Feb. 4, 2005. It seemed she never recovered from his death.
They were a very close couple and enjoyed life, and entertaining
family and friends.
She was born in Grosse Point, MI, then lived in the North Carolina
mountains, then back to the Detroit area before moving to Clarkston,
MI, and later to South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee.
She was the loving mother of Jody Hawke of Long Beach, CA, Dr.
Jeff Hawke of Denver, CO and Julie (Ronnie) Honeycutt; and loving
grandmother of Alissa and Ethan Honeycutt.
Jo had two brothers who preceded her in death, Max Parris and
Wayne Parris.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Dec. 3, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday,

Edna Threet McDonald, 91, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 3,
2005. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec.
11, from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. McDonald was born Nov. 15, 1913 in Overton County, the daughter
of Alf and Zona Tipton Threet.
Before retiring, she had been an inspector for Chrysler Corporation
in Michigan.
Survivors include her son, Glen McDonald of Crossville; granddaughter,
Mickie McDonald of Jamestown; great-grandchildren, Samantha and
Jonathan McDonald of Allardt; sisters, Edith Hull of Jamestown
and Elise Murphy of Crossville; and brother, Pat Threet of Michigan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
grandson, Howard Glen McDonald II; and brother, Carl and Otis
Threet.

Charles "Chuck" Wightman, 60, of Crossville, passed
away Nov. 28, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 1 from
the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patricia Robbennolt
officiating. Interment was in Neverfail Cemetery.
Mr. Wightman was born May 13, 1945 in Crossville, the son of
Annie (Whittenburg) and Henry Wightman.
He was a maintenance supervisor at Wharton Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Dunn) Wightman of Pleasant
Hill; son, Tracy Wightman of Pleasant Hill; brother, Steve Wightman
of Sparta; sisters, Judy Dunn of Sparta, Dorothy Wagner of Pleasant
Hill and Elizabeth Brock of Sparta; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers,
Jack Wightman, Jimmy Wightman, Jerry Wightman, Joe Wightman,
Mike Wightman, Amos Wightman, Don Wightman and Bob Wightman.
Pallbearers were Jermiah Wightman, Josh Wightman, Brier Wightman,
Adam Austin, Cliff Wightman and Jeff Smith.

Jean Lucille Yates, 74, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 28, 2005.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 3 from the chapel of Crossville
Memorial Funeral Home, with Doyle Ashburn and David Wilkerson
officiating. Special music was provided by Ed Cagle. Burial was
in Big Lick Cemetery.
Mrs. Yates was born Aug. 23, 1931 in Sigourney, IA, the daughter
of Thomas Clayton Lowe and Sophia Louise Duensing Lowe.
She worked in the cafeteria at Homestead school for many years
before retiring. She was also a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Yates; sons, Jerry Lee
(Shelia) Lowe of Iowa, Jack Eugene Yates and Tim Allen (Chris)
Yates of Crossville; daughter, Janice Marie Thomas of North Carolina;
grandchildren, Todd and Shannon Lowe, Michael and Christopher
Thomas, Cameron Yates and Kendall Yates; step-grandchildren,
Wally and Misty Welch; brothers, Bernard Lowe of Nevada, Jack
Lowe of Iowa and Don Lowe of Arkansas; sisters, Doris Crossett,
Louise Young, Eileen Ansley, Vernelda Yahun, all of Iowa, and
Eva Thayer of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
brothers, Bert and Roy Lowe.

John Gordon Dykes, 75, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Nov. 27,
2005. A memorial service was held Dec. 1 at Shepherd of the Hills
Lutheran Church in Crossville, with the Rev. David Lampman officiating.
Mr. Dykes was born Dec. 17, 1929 in Detroit, MI, the son of Violet
Elizabeth (Rosenou) and Alexander Dykes.
He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Korean War Vets, 127 South
Senior Citizens, Woodmen of the World and Rotary. He served in
the United States Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dykes of Fairfield Glade;
son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Lisa Dykes of Columbiaville,
MI; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Robert Zacharias of Otisville,
MI; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Scott Roddy of Auburn
Hills, MI; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Joan Dykes of
Columbiaville, MI; grandchildren, Jodi Hohenstein and Nathan
Blatt of Otter Lake, MI, Jami and Rodney Gentner of Caro, MI,

Norma "Sue" Hart, 70, of Crossville, passed away Nov.
29, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 3, from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rob
Morton officiating. A memorial gathering will be held at the
funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Mrs. Hart was born Jan. 17, 1935 in Vinita, OK, the daughter
of Ed and Melba Smith Spaulding.
She was retired as office manager and district manager for an
ice cream distribution company that she and her husband owned.
She was a founding member of the Plateau Christian Church where
she also played piano. She loved playing the piano as well as
reading, especially history books. She also enjoyed gardening
and being outdoors.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hart of Crossville; son
and daughter-in-law, Ulys M. and Katrina Hart of South Haven,
MS; daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda G. and Mahmoud Naderi
of Huntsville, AL, Teri D. and Mike Cantrell of Lenoir City and
Sharon E. Carroll of Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed
and Donna Spaulding of Gracemont, OK and Paul and Dorothy Spaulding
of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Jeremy Norris,
Emily Naderi, Kevin Naderi, Libby Hart and Sam Hart; great-grandchildren,
Christian Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Ben Norris and Jared Norris;
and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

grandchildren, Diana Cantrell and Lilly Cantrell; and brothers,

Charlie Bronson Norris, 69, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 27,
2005. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 30 from the chapel
of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Junior Masters officiating.
Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Norris was born Feb. 4, 1936 in Bledsoe County, the son of
Ervin Lonzo Norris and Bessie Mae Barnwell Norris.
He was a retired construction worker and retired member of Local
818 in Knoxville. He was a member of Higher Ground Church of
God.
He was a kind and gentle man and will be remembered fondly for
his love of nature and his stories that he loved to tell of fishing
expeditions.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Emma Davis Norris; son
and daughter-in-law, Charlie Edward and Cynthia Norris; granddaughters,
Angellicca Louise Smith and Natasha Shalin Lykins; great-grandsons,
Gavin and Christian Smith and Jonathan Dyer; and sisters, Mary
Frances Miller, Dorothy Louise Barnes, Anna Grace Marlow and
Jewell N. Harris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers,
Chester Norris of Nashville and Ervin L. Norris Jr. of Crossville;
and sister, Christine Kilby of Crossville.

21, 2005. Graveside services were conducted Nov. 22 from Selby
Family Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Kerley officiating.
Mr. Selby was born Aug. 28, 1940 in White County, the son of
Coin Dee Selby and Tennie Lewis Selby.
He was a craftsman who made wood carvings of birds and animals.
Survivors include his sons, Andy Selby, Terry Selby and Darrell
Selby; daughters, Joy Selby McGuire, Teresa Selby and Misty Selby;
grandchildren, Misty Lewis, Cody Sims, Michael Parrish, Kyle

County, passed away Nov. 26, 2005. A memorial service will be

Gainesboro, with Bro. Larry Clinkenbeard officiating. Visitation
will be held beginning at noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stokes was born Oct. 9, 1924 in Rockford, IL, the daughter
of Clarence and Ruth Allen.
She worked in the dry cleaning and laundry business.
Survivors include her son, Larry Stokes of Bloomington Springs;
stepson, Stanley Snider of Tucson, AZ; and grandchildren, Joshua
Stokes, Jeremiah Stokes and Gayla May Stokes, all of Houston,
TX.

Mrs. Turner was born April 9, 1931 in Chevrolet, KY, the daughter
of Frank Ellred Norris and Leda Ellen Norris.
She was a factory worker before retiring.
