Mary Marie Ayers, 85, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 12, 2004. Graveside services were conducted Aug. 14 from the Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated.
Mrs. Ayers was born Aug. 29, 1918 in Crossville, the daughter of Frank Campbell and Laura Dayton Campbell.
She worked as a clerk at Cumberland Medical Center and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Ayers of Knoxville; daughter, Gloria Sue Lewis of Crossville and Leslie Jo Breeding of Knoxville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Jeanetta Hyder of Crossville and June Gross of Smyrna Beach, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ayers; and sisters, Betty Tollett, Laura Atkins, Nettie Atkins, Louise Campbell and Anna Lee Smith.
Pallbearers were Lynn Lewis, Barry Lewis, Rusty Stone, Brad Wyatt, Danny Wyatt and Hazen Hall.

Robert E. Boulton Sr.
Dec. 4, 1930 - Aug. 23, 2004

Robert E. Boulton Sr., 73, of Ft. Meyers, FL, passed away Aug. 23, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Neville Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, Holland, OH. Holland Post #646 will be conducting American Legion Services at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Mr. Boulton was born Dec. 4, 1930 in Marion, OH, the son of Ralph and Kathrine Boulton.
He was a project manager working for the Ajax Construction Company. A Korean War veteran, he served in the United States Air Force and was an active member of the American Legion, Elks, Moose and other veterans organizations. During his lifetime, he lived in Ohio, Newfoundland, Australia, Tennessee and Florida.
Survivors include his children, Ralph "Butch" (Jill) Boulton, Robert (Vicki) Boulton, Bruce Boulton and Robin (Mike) Reilly; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Joy (Jeep) Long and Mary Alice (Pete) Peterson; and brother, Victor (Cindy) Boulton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; and brother, Richard.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions in his memory be sent to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, Attention B-13-459, 300 W. Tenth Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.

Samuel B. Carr
Oct. 6, 1915 - Aug. 20, 2004

Samuel (Sam) Benjamin Carr, 88, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 20, 2004. A memorial service was conducted Aug. 25 at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carleton Thackston and the Rev. Raymond Pierson officiating.
Mr. Carr was born Oct. 6, 1915 in Rochester, IN, the son of Ray and Ruth Dawson Carr.
He worked for Penn Central Railroad as a brakeman and block operator in Plymouth, IN. He also farmed. He retired from Penn Central RR in 1971. In 1976 he moved to Crossville and started Carr Insulation Company, which he managed for 14 years. He was an active member of the Crossville Exchange Club. Favorite pastimes included playing golf at Lake Tansi and playing bridge with friends.
Sam and Marie Kline Carr were married Sept. 1, 1940.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Carr of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carolyn Carr of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and John Williams of Milford, CT, Janet and Steve Miller of Shady Shores, TX and Mary and Karem Mallick of Shepherdsville, KY; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Carr Slemons of Sun City, AZ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Carr; daughters, an infant daughter and Judith Carr; brothers, Walter Carr and Harry Carr; and sisters, Irene Carr Myers and Mary Frances Carr.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church building fund.

Thomas E. Clayton Sr.
April 7, 1936 - Aug. 21, 2004

Thomas Eugene Clayton Sr., 68, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 21, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bro. Hank Jones officiated.
Mr. Clayton was born April 7, 1936 in Richmond, VA, the son of Frank Daniel Clayton and Minnie Dorothy Thurston Clayton.
He was a roofer and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Thenice Clayton of Crossville; sons, Tommy Clayton Jr. and Ricky Clayton of Miami, FL; daughters, Terri Lynne Sheppard of Miami, FL and Jennifer Lynne Holderman of Crossville; nine grandchildren; brother, Frank Clayton of Richmond, VA; and sisters, Delores Cooper and Gloria Williams of Richmond, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Dennis Craig Pugh; and brother, Alan Clayton.
Pallbearers were Raymond Smith, Larry Bell, Greg Stokes, Randy Holderman, Billy Watson and David Price.

Carolyn A. Cook
Jan. 8, 1931 - Aug. 26, 2004

Carolyn Ann Thurman Crabtree Cook, 73, passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, in Clyde Nursing Center, Clyde, Texas.
Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Crossville, she was a 1949 graduate of Cumberland County High School, and she maintained a close relationship with many classmates over the years. She was employed with First National Bank of Crossville for 30 years before her retirement in 1979.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Crabtree of Eula, Texas; grandchildren, Crystal, Robbie and Blake of Eula; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Lynda Thurman of Harriman; aunts, Isabel Smith and Sula Copeland, both of Crossville, Eula Bomar of Livingston and Martha Bozanich of Hendersonville; cousins, Drucilla and Leon Smith and Clayton and Peggy Smith, all of Crossville; nephews, Trent Thurman and wife, Francie, of Memphis, and Todd Thurman and wife, Parri, of Kingston; great-nephews, Sam Thurman and Ben Thurman of Memphis; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.N. (Buck and Camilla) Thurman; stepfather, Olin C. Julian; and husbands, Bob Crabtree and E.W. Cook.
A memorial service followed the Sunday, Aug. 29, church service in Clyde Nursing Center. The body was donated to medical science.

Donald Farmer
July 19, 1935 - Aug. 17, 2004

Donald Farmer, 69, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 17, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 20 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bro. Joe Pruett officiated, with special music by Gene Burgess.
Mr. Farmer was born July 19, 1935 in Cumberland County, the son of Carl Washington and Agnes Pace Farmer.
He grew up in the Hebbertsburg community and was a member of West Ave. Church of Christ. He was a truck driver for York Lime and a U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Millie Farmer of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Edith Farmer of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Teressia and Teddy Wanamaker of Crossville; brothers, Moore Farmer of Cleveland, OH, Carl Farmer of Elyria, OH and Edwin Farmer of Harriman; sister, Joyce Nealon of Crossville; and granddaughter, Shelly Findley of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy M. Metcalf
Feb. 11, 1926 - Aug. 27, 2004

Dorothy "Dottie" Mary Mandernach Metcalf, 78, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 27, 2004. She was reunited with her recently (Aug. 5, 2004) deceased husband of 58 years, Robert D. "Bob" Metcalf. A joint funeral Mass for Dottie and Bob will be held at St. Francis church at a yet-to-be-determined date, followed by interment of their cremains in the St. Francis columbarium.
Mrs. Metcalf was born Feb. 11, 1926 in Racine, WI.
She was the mother of nine sons. She was a proud member of the National Honor Society, as well as a stellar basketball player in her youth. She blossomed into a loving wife, mother and more than full-time homemaker.
She and her husband, Bob, retired to Fairfield Glade about 22 years ago and had been involved in a variety of activities. Most important to them was their role in the life of St. Francis of Assisi parish. The joy and passion of her later years was her membership in the church choir.
After becoming ill in late 2003, the Metcalfs moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home and Assisted Living in Crown Point, IN to be close to their children.
Survivors include their sons, Robert Kevin, Patrick Todd, Gary, Brian, Michael, Sean Bradley and Jon; 10 daughters-in-law, 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Tim and Geoff; and 10 brothers and sisters.
The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Church or to St. Anthony's Hospice in Crown Point, IN.

Mary Louise Hagerman Phillips passed away Aug. 21, 2004. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiating.
Mrs. Phillips was born Jan. 28, 1926 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of Lewis F. and Louise C. Feldmeir Hagerman.
She was a homemaker and secretary/tax preparer and a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. She was a member of the PEO (Program for Continuing Education) Sisterhood, and graduated with a BS degree from the University of Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, Earle Phillips; son and daughter-in-law, J.R. and Linda Phillips of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Peggy Rose of Calistoga, CA and Laura Phillips of Knoxville; grandchildren, Montina, Adam, Jacob and his wife, Hanah Moffett, Myriah Rose, Michelle Phillips and Jade Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Eli Moffett and Jasmine Moffett.

Joanne Von Dane, 75, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of West Frankfort, IL, passed away Aug. 23, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Von Dane was a member of Fairfield Glade Baptist Church and volunteered with the Plateau Pregnancy Services in Crossville. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Hershel Simpson.

Nicholas Guidara, 84, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 19, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 23 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, with burial in Eastland Cemetery. Father Fred Schmit officiated.
Mr. Guidara was born July 2, 1920 in Lynn, MA, the son of Joseph Guidara and Catherine Lentini Guidara.
He was a math teacher in Bethesda-Chevy Chase, MD. He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Guidara of Sparta; daughters and son-in-law, Cathy and Stewart Collins of Barnesville, MD and Rita Mele of Gaithersburg, MD; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Joan Guidara of Crossville, Kenny and Paula Guidara of Sparta, Michael and Kim Guidara of Owings Mills, MD, Jim and Jill Guidara of Gaithersburg, MD, and David and Paula Guidara of Pfafftown, NC; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Virginia Guidara of Lynn, MA; and sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and Joseph Monico of Peabody, MA.

Lisa Ann Harp, 40, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 9, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 12 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Bros. Johnny Goldston and Ray Norris officiated, with special music by Judy Waldo and Dolores Holloway.
Mrs. Harp was born Oct. 27, 1963 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Monroe Fish Jr. and Martha Frances Parks Fish.
She was a waitress and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Davis Harp of Crossville; son, Trevor Harp of Crossville; daughter, Heather Harp of Crossville; mother, Frances Fish of Crossville; brothers, Rocky, Ricky, Jimmy, Randy and Marty Fish, all of Crossville; and sisters, Kathy Goney, Connie Bayless and Donna Freeman of Crossville.

Charlie E. Simmons
Aug. 15, 2004

Charlie E. Simmons, 85, passed away Aug. 15, 2004. Born in Pikeville, TN, he lived most of his life in Tennessee and Florida where he was the director of public works for the city of Ft. Laud.
Mr. Simmons was the son of William and Iantha Simmons and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Duane, and his children, Edward, Elaine, Patricia and Christopher. Mr. Simmons is also survived by his sisters, Vera Wallace, Claire Mooneyham, Willie Ruth Mills and Donna Helen Boynton.
Charlie was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed the companionship of friends and sportsmen.
Tommy and Diane French were special friends and helped bring him comfort until the end. He was a member of the West Avenue Church of Christ on Bilbrey St. where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Dr., Atlanta, GA 30319.
The Cremation Society of the South of Marietta, GA, is in charge of arrangements.

Jacqueline R. T. Bates

Jacqueline Renee Tabor Bates, 43, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 12, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 15 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Gary Robbins officiating. Burial was held Aug. 16 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Bates was born April 11, 1961 in Cumberland County, TN.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Bates; son, Samuel Tabor Bates; daughter, Sarah Jane Bates; mother, Martha Jane Robinson; and sisters and brother-in-law, Julie and Mike Livesay and Mara Hall, all of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Theron Tabor.

William H. Beasley Jr.

William Herman Beasley Jr., 77, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 11, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 14 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in the Rinnie Cemetery. Arlon Way officiated, with special music by the Linary Church of Christ Youth Choir.
Mr. Beasley was born March 4, 1927 in Sparta, the son of William Herman and Haley Evelyn Beasley.
He was a retired farmer and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Claudean Beasley; son, Donathan Granville Beasley of Memphis; daughter, Wilma Paulette Beasley of Crossville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Andrew Dennis Beasley of Celina, TN and Frank Beasley of Moss, TN; and sister, Roselle Guffey of Hartsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herman and Haley Evelyn Beasley.

Clarence Otto Mueller, 88, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 13, 2004.
Mr. Mueller was born July 30, 1916 in Platte County, Nebraska, the son of Otto and Mary Mueller.
He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and a retired school custodian.
Survivors include his wife, Forrest Torrance Mueller; stepson, Larry Echols of Crossville; stepdaughters, Sharon Turner of Birmingham, Roxanne Phinney of Crossville and Linda Cook of Dunlap; and sister, Lucille Wilhelm of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary Mueller.

Janet M. VanSlyke
Feb. 6, 1941 - Aug. 12, 2004

Janet Marie VanSlyke, 63, of the Lake Tansi community in Crossville, passed away Aug. 12, 2004. Memorial services were conducted Aug. 16 at the Lake Tansi Community Church, with the Rev. Jeff Monday officiating. Memorial services will also be held in Flint, MI at a later date.
Mrs. VanSlyke was born Feb. 6, 1941 in Genesee County, MI, the daughter of Robert and Leona Gauze Forgie.
She was a retired power train manager for General Motors. She was also a member of the Lake Tansi golf committee and past president of the Lake Tansi Ladies Golf League. She loved playing golf and was an avid reader as well.
She is survived by her husband, Bart VanSlyke of Lake Tansi; daughters and son-in-law, Kimberly VanSlyke of Davison, MI and Drusilla and Mike Morrison of Castle Rock, CO; brothers, Robert Forgie of San Jose, CA, William Forgie of Ludington, MI, Dale Forgie of Lake Tansi, Thomas Forgie of Mt. Morris, MI and James Forgie of Flint, MI; sisters, Maragret Neace of Ft. Wayne, IN, Nancy Maxson of Santa Maria, CA and Mary Warren of Millington, MI; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Zakary VanSlyke and Jonathon and Matthew Morrison.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Forgie; and sister, Elizabeth Forgie.

Jesse Dillard Bilbrey, 71, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 10, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 13 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bowman Cemetery. Bro. Donald Wattenbarger officiated.
Mr. Bilbrey was born March 14, 1933 in Fentress County, the son of Jesse Bilbrey and Lora Bilbrey.
He worked at Certified Cylinder and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Jessie L. and Raymond Rhodes of Crossville and Nora A. Lopez of Crab Orchard; close friend, Becky McGann of Crossville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert Baldwin of Crossville; and sisters, Betty Miller of Crossville, Beatrice Bruce of Crossville, Sue Gentry of Red Boiling Springs, TN, Eva Wade, Dorothy Grant and Levella Downs, all of Indiana; and ex-wife, Willie Mae Bilbrey Davis of Crossville.

Gladys Opal Hixon, 91, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 5, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 7 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated.
Mrs. Hixon was born Oct. 17, 1912 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Lonnie and Mildred Svoboda Tabor.
She was a clerk at Hill's Department Store and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth F. Hixon of Decatur, AL; daughters, Marie L. Hixon of Nashville and Marcie Hixon Bouldin of Viola, TN; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Tabor of Crossville; and sisters, Libby Kultau and Rosel Wood of Crossville and Maxine Baisley of Georgia.

Robert A. Lewis

Robert (Bob) Allen Lewis, 67, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 4, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 9 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Robert DeBusk officiating.
Mr. Lewis was born Aug. 5, 1936 in Detroit, MI, the son of Thomas Lewis and Clara Pageau Lewis.
He was a truck driver for Abner-Wolfe Trucking Co. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Chloe Lena Newberry, 94, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 11, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Faye Tucker officiated.
Mrs. Newberry was born Dec. 29, 1909 in Overton County, the daughter of Jerry and Dora Ethel Crouch Boles.
She had been a clerk for Ben Franklin Store and was a member of the Homestead Methodist Church

O.C. Taylor passed away Feb. 20, 1999 in Clinton, MI. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the Crossville City Cemetery, with the Crossville National Guard providing the military honors of presentation of the flag, firing detail and "Taps."
Mr. Taylor was born April 26, 1926 in Boyd, TX, the son of Leo and Sarah Hall Taylor.
He resided in Crossville from 1929 to 1957. He was a truck driver and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his sons, David Taylor of Clinton, MI and Larry Taylor of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; sister, Virginia Locricchio of Clinton, MI; and brother, Donald Taylor of Ft. Worth, TX.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Taylor; daughter, Brenda Martinez; and grandparents, Sarah and David Taylor.

Kenneth Carey

Kenneth Carey, 68, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 7, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 10 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Dillard Cantrell and Bro. George Wells officiated, with special music by Kim Wattenburger.
Mr. Carey was born June 3, 1936 in Claiborne County, TN, the son of Lawrence and Myrtie Neely Carey.
He was a retired fireman with the Cumberland County Fire Department and was also a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He served as Cumberland County Road Superintendent. He was a founder of Caryonah Hunting Lodge and helped to start the Antique Tractor Club. He was also a volunteer for the Cumberland County Fire Department in which he helped organize. He was a pilot and loved to fly his own plane. He raced stock cars with his car being #34, "The Blue Goose." He loved to fish and hunt. He was a wonderful husband, daddy and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Carey of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Lynn Carey of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and James Wattenbarger of Crossville, Pamela Carey and Alton Morrison of Pipestone, MN, Doris Farley of Cookeville and Bertha Vanwinkle of New Haven, CT; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie Jean and Leo Garrison; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Alice Goin of Grandville, MI; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

James "Jimmy" William Dorris, 74, passed away Aug. 11, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at the Charlotte Church of Christ, 4508 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, where Mr. Dorris was baptized and married. His sons, Charles, Mike and Jim David will officiate. Interment will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Dorris was a minister for 51 years, with 33 years of ministry in West Nashville at West Nashville Heights Church of Christ, Pasquo Church of Christ, Brookmeade Church of Christ and James Ave. Church of Christ. He taught at the Great Commission School in Nashville for 19 years. He was presently a member of the Fairfield Glade Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Christine Dorris; daughters, Judy (Mike) Perkins and Suzan (Eddie) Walling; sons, Charles (Rebecca) Dorris, Mike (Freda) Dorris and Jim David (Sherry) Dorris; grandchildren, Dana Michael, Ryan, Chad, Julie, Emily and Allison Perkins, Zara and Zena Dorris, Blake Dorris, Kristin, Travis and Allen Walling, Justin, David and Andrew Dorris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Mai Dorris; and aunts, Bertha and Verda Lou Sensing and Alyce Dorris.

Robert D. Metcalf

Robert Diel Metcalf passed away Aug. 5, 2004 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point, IN. A funeral Mass will be held in the chapel of St. Anthony Nursing Home, 203 Franciscan Dr., Crown Point, IN 46307, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15.
Mr. Metcalf was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Racine, WI, the son of Clifford and Minnie Metcalf.
He and his wife, Dorothy (Bob and Dottie), were longtime residents of Fairfield Glade when Dottie suffered a stroke. Both of them moved to the St. Anthony Home in Indiana to be closer to their family.
Serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he was assigned as an MP to the 509th Bomber Group in Tinian which dropped the two atomic bomb on Japan, ending the war in the Pacific.
Bob and Dottie raised nine boys, enough to field a baseball team. Bob had a successful career as a sales manager for Procter & Gamble and leaves lasting memories of his loyalty and sharing spirit with many of those he touched.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; and sons, Kevin, Patrick, Gary, Brian, Michael, Bradley and Jon; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and John Bronenkant of Naples, FL.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Timothy and Geoffrey.

Mr. Tucker was born March 2, 1956 in Dayton, OH.
He was a distribution specialist at CoLinx in Crossville. He was a skilled craftsman in woodworking and loved fishing and the great outdoors. He was very dedicated to all of his family and friends.

Gilbert T. Coovert
July 10, 1916 - Aug. 2, 2004

Gilbert Truman Coovert, 88, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Aug. 2, 2004. He was a member of Uplands Retirement Village and Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Mr. Coovert was born July 10, 1916 near Harrodsburg, KY, the only child of Garnett and Willie Mae.
In 1921, the Coovert family moved to Indianapolis, IN. Gil graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1935 in the midst of the Great Depression. He served an apprenticeship with Chevrolet Commercial Body in Indianapolis, starting his 40-year career in industry. He was a manager with Port Everglade Steel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL when in 1974 doctors at Miami Heart Institute urged him to retire.
In 1983, he and his wife moved to Uplands, each bringing an elderly mother.
The loved ones he left behind are Berwyn Kincaid Coovert, wife of 58 years; daughter, Karen Coovert Barnett and husband, David; grandsons, Justin Straker and his wife, Chantell Foss, and Adam Barnett; and great-grandsons, Kell and Garnett Straker. All but his wife are residents of British Columbia.

William Dow (Bill) Saylors, 73, of Vestavia, AL, passed away July 26, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 28 at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Alabama, with the Rev. Bill Reed officiating. Local services were conducted July 30 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated, with special music by Mary E. Henry and Lauren Arp. The Honor Guard, Chapter 32, provided the military honors of the presentation of the flag, firing detail and "Taps" at the cemetery.
Mr. Saylors was born Jan. 24, 1931 in Sparta, TN, the son of Gilbert and Elizabeth Lee Saylors.
He moved to Birmingham in 1958 and worked for Rust Engineering. He later went to work for Birmingham Clay Products. He was an avid outdoorsman and member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gerry Williams Saylors of Birmingham, AL; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Rick Hardy of Hoover, AL and Lee Ann and Scott Spinetto of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Allison and Andrew Hardy and Emma and John Spinetto; brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Saylors of Crossville; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Doris L. Peisert, 80, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 29, 2004. A memorial service was held in the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, where she was a member, Aug. 3, with Associate Pastor Lanita Price officiating.
Mrs. Peisert was born March 1, 1924, the daughter of John and Anna Gustavson in Muskegon, MI.
She married Donald C. Peisert on Jan. 19, 1944. She is remembered lovingly by her family and friends as a wonderful mother, loyal friend, excellent bridge player, and active participant in the Gourmet Gals. She always set an example as a strong and independent person. During her earlier years she enjoyed dancing and and never lost her love of life, reading, and her interest in public and community affairs. She donated regularly to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her sister, Lucille Broersma of Grand Haven, MI; father-in-law, Charles R. Peisert of Pleasant Hill, TN (age 105); children, Gregory Peisert of Dayton, OH, Carolyn Peisert of Loveland, CO and Elizabeth Kunz of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by five grandchildren.

He was retired from Ford Motor Co. and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was a lifetime member of Holland American Legion, Lucas County Commander, First District Commander and Department of Ohio sergeant-at-arms. He was also a member of AmVets, Elks, Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He worked as a security guard at Lake Tansi and loved to fish.

DeWayne Caruthers passed away July 28, 2004. Graveside services were conducted July 30 at Green Acres Memory Gardens, with Bro. Frank Walker officiating.
Mr. Caruthers was born in Cumberland County, the son of Robert and Gladys Dixon Caruthers.
After graduating from Cumberland County High School, he served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He joined TVA in 1967 and retired in 2000, after 33 years as an electrical engineer associate. He enjoyed spending time in his yard, NASCAR racing, woodworking and U.T. football games. But most of all, he enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Amonette Caruthers; mother, Gladys Dixon Caruthers; Granny Myrtle Amonette of Byrdstown; daughters, Angela (Evern) Beech of Franklin and Robin Amonette of Franklin; son, Scott (Tammy) Amonette of Crossville; and two grandchildren, whom he adored, Christopher Lucas Selby and Carlee Denise Amonette; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Caruthers; and brother, Chester Caruthers.

Larry M. Golden, 57, and Barbara Ann Golden, 55, both of Crossville and formerly of Cusseta, AL, passed away from injuries received in an automobile accident in Waycross, GA. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 3 at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point, GA, with burial in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point. The Rev. Johnny Peardon and the Rev. Leon Davis officiated.
Mrs. Golden was born April 22, 1949 in Troup County, GA, the daughter of the late Tiny Barbara Johnson and the late William James. She is survived by her sisters, Jane Ann Davis of Opelika, AL; Doris Moon of Cusseta, AL and Sue Jet Coward of Pine Mountain, GA; and brother, David James of Lanett, AL.
Mr. Golden was born Jan. 16, 1947 in Lee County, GA, and is survived by his parents, Frank and Virginia Golden of Opelika, AL; sisters, Mary Ann Lipp of Pine Mountain, GA, Betty Sue Cain of Blountsville, AL and Debbie Branham of Gaston, AL; and brother, James Golden of Opelika, AL.
The couple is survived by their children, Jeff Golden of Scottsboro, AL and Michael Golden of Bridgeport, AL; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Golden was a longtime employee of Huguley Oil Company and was formerly employed with West Point Pepperell.
Mrs. Golden was a pastor with the Union City Bible Church.

Robert "Bob" Hadley, 85, of Traverse City, MI, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 3, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, from the First Christian Church, 3686 South Airport Road, Traverse City, with the Rev. David Stout officiating.
Mr. Hadley was born June 4, 1919, in Richmond, IN, the son of Ross A. and Mable (Burrows) Hadley.
He was married to the former Elizabeth M. Taylor on May 22, 1948 in Detroit, MI.
In his 42 years at Detroit Diesel, he rose to the position of director of industrial engineering before moving to Mexico as chief engineer, where he constructed the GM Motor Diesel Mexicana facility.
Mr. Hadley enjoyed playing golf, traveling, photography and square dancing. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed woodworking. He contributed his time and money to a local volunteer organization known as The Club. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Hadley of Traverse City, MI; daughter, Karen (Tim) Downing of Traverse City, MI; sons, Robert (Janis) Hadley of Bloomfield Hills, MI, David (Marlene) Hadley of Novi, MI and Steven (Sue) Hadley of Sunol, CA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Hadley of Rocky River, OH and Eleanor Dillon of Borne, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ms. Hedgecoth was born April 4, 1946 in Pleasant Hill, the daughter of John Hedgecoth Sr. and Annie Kerley Hedgecoth Sr.
She worked in housekeeping at Country Place Health Care Center and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her brothers, Stanley Hedgecoth, Ernest Hedgecoth, John Hedgecoth Jr. and Douglas Hedgecoth, all of Crossville; and sisters, Irene Hedgecoth, Ala Griffin and Cora Hall, all of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Hedgecoth Sr.
Pallbearers were Mark Hedgecoth, Bobby Griffin, Les Brown, David Hedgecoth, Tim Tollett and Keith Brock.

Nadine Kearley
March 23, 1922 - July 26, 2004

Nadine Kearley, 82, of Crossville, passed away July 26, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Hyder Cemetery. Bro. Scott White officiated.
Mrs. Kearley was born March 23, 1922 in Cumberland County, the daughter of George and Lou Potter Kearley.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Glenn Kerley of Knoxville and Billy Kerley of Crossville; daughter-in-law, Mary Kearley of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren, Carrie, Glen and Avery; great-grandchildren, Niki, Taylor, Katie and Kristi; brothers, Boyd and Venable Kearley of Crossville; and sisters, Georgia Wood, Norma Fay Hargis and Helen Findley of Crossville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lee Kerley; and sister, Christine Davis.

Mary Ruth Oakes

Mary Ruth Oakes, 68, of Crossville, passed away July 19, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Bro. Gene Burgess officiated, with special music by Gene Burgess and Missy.
Mrs. Oakes was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Beach and Rosie Reed Sherrill.
She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God.
Survivors include her son, Horace Oakes Jr. of Crossville; daughters, Vicki Bilbrey of Conyers, GA and Linda Waldo of Crossville; grandchildren, Wayne, Michelle, Clayton, Justin, Melissa and Cathy; and great-grandchildren, Alexis, McKenzie, Murphy, Emily, Caitlin and Macy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Clayton Oakes Sr.; and brothers, Floyd (Bunk), Robert S., Ray and Raymond Sherrill.
Pallbearers were Wayne Bilbrey, Clayton Waldo, Justin Oakes, Sammy Sherrill, Beacher Sherrill and Leslie Sherrill.
Honorary pallbearers were Travis Ledbetter, David Waldo and Willie Rainier.

Elden G. Zulauf
March 27, 1923 - July 19, 2004

Elden Grant (Al) Zulauf, 81, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 19, 2004. Funeral Mass was conducted July 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Father Kris Bartos officiated. Graveside services were conducted July 24 at St. Johns Cemetery in Ubly, MI.
Mr. Zulauf was born March 27, 1923 in Ubly, MI, the son of Jacob and Maude Allen Zulauf.
He was a sales representative for Sunshine Biscuit Co. and of the Catholic faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his sons, Paul Zulauf of Highlands Ranch, CO and Roger Zulauf of Rochester, MI; daughter, Karen Zulauf of Bolder, CO; three grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty Zulauf of Ubly, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Schumacher Zulauf.

Genettie Cunningham

Genettie (Nettie) Cunningham, 92, of the Smith Chapel community, passed away July 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 28 at the Smith Chapel Baptist Church, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Harold Robinson officiated.
Mrs. Cunningham was born July 20, 1912 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Alfred and Eliza Snyder Seagraves.
She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Alfred Cunningham Sr. of Pleasant Hill; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Cunningham; sons, Paul and Malcolm Cunningham; sister, Becky Harris; and brothers, Jessie Lee, Milzey, James Dallas, Wiley, Willie, Andrew, Arthur, Henry Lee and baby twins.

Olive Mae DeBarr, 82, of Crossville, passed away July 26, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 28 at Ten Mile Methodist Church in Ten Mile, WV, with burial in Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery. Bro. George Freeman officiated.
Mrs. DeBarr was born Dec. 3, 1921 in Newell, PA, the daughter of Conrad and Laura Barringer Keiling.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Eden Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Timmie Moretz of Lantana, FL, Karen Thomas of Crossville, Leslie Marino of Akron, OH, Patty Strunk of Crossville and Marilyn (Burfy) Kacsanek of Uniontown, OH; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex DeBarr; daughter, Janet Riggs; and great-grandson, Caleb Lowe.

Edith Dodson

Edith Dodson, 85, of Crossville, passed away July 29, 2004. Funeral services were conducted July 30 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Vern Daugherty officiated, with special remarks by Jo Ann Stone.
Mrs. Dodson was born Oct. 25, 1918 in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of Virgil Cordell and Martha Turner Cordell.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Ann Phillips of Crossville; and grandson, Bruce Neal of Madison, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ott Dodson; sisters, Verna Dunbar and Dawn Sherrill; and brothers, Clyde Cordell, Gene Cordell and Otis Cordell.
Pallbearers were Bruce Neal, Steve Baggett, Steve Stone, Mike Stone, Joe Eller and Baxter Sherrill.

Charles M. Johnson
Aug. 13, 1926 - July 25, 2004

Charles "Chuck" Morris Johnson, 77, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 25, 2004. A memorial service was conducted July 29 at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 13, 1926 in Pingree, ND, the youngest son of Charles Morris Johnson and Mary Sorensen Johnson.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he attended the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota where he earned a bachelor of science degree, before taking up a career in sales. For over 50 years, he was a member of The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was a Shriner and a Rotarian. He was a talented carpenter and a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
He was also a devoted husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Virginia Olson Johnson; sons, Conrad (Marna) of Houston, TX and Charles (Betsy) of Franklin, TN; daughter, Cynthia of Haslett, MI; sister, Geneva Tracy of St. George, UT; brother, Sterling of Worthington, MN; and grandchildren, Kristin, Eric, Jim, Gareth, Sean and Kathan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Warren; and sister, Anita Falsetta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Fairfield Glade UMC Memorial Garden or the Lexington Shrine Hospital for Children. You may leave memorials with the church for distribution.

William J. March, 82, of Sparta, passed away July 26, 2004. Graveside services were conducted July 28 at Big Lick Cemetery.
Mr. March was born Oct. 14, 1921 in Ontario, Canada, the son of Harry and Wilma March.
He was a retired doctor of dentistry and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis March; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Joani March of Pegram, TN; and daughter, Tracy March of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wilma March.
