Dorothy M. Taylor
Aug. 22, 1933 - April 28, 2004
Dorothy Mae Taylor, 70, of Sparta, passed away April 28, 2004. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Kingdom Hall of the Jehova's Witness in Sparta, with visitation from 2-3 p.m. Ken Cabral will officiate, with burial in Cliffty Cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Cumberland County.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of the Jehova's Witness in Sparta and was a social worker. She was a Jehova's Witness minister and enjoyed her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. Taylor of Sparta; children, Steve Taylor of Sparta, Damon Taylor of Woodberry, Daniel Taylor of Franklin, Tommy Taylor of Sparta and Sharon Pierce of Sparta; 16 grandchildren; brother, John Meadows of Sparta; sisters, Marion Booker of Nashville and Blanch Young of Kingston; and great-uncle, Ellis Hodge of Pleasant Hill.

Robert Ellison Woody
Jan. 16, 1929 - April 23, 2004
Funeral services for Robert Ellison Woody were conducted Sunday, April 25, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Burial followed at Woody Cemetery. Bro. Gary Robbins officiated, with special music provided by the Bethlehem Baptist Singers.
Mr. Woody, 75, passed away April 23, 2004, at his home in Crossville. Mr. Woody was born Jan. 16, 1929 in Cumberland County. He was the son of John H. Woody and Carrie Woody. He was a manager for the Noble Trucking Company and was a Mason. Mr. Woody was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Vella Irene Neal Woody; his parents, John and Carrie Woody; and his son, Samuel David Woody.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Conner and Marilyn Freeman, both of Crossville; grandchildren Rob Woody and Joey Freeman; great-grandchildren Weston, Greylin, Nathaniel and Aaron; a brother, Harry Martin Woody, of Crossville; and Edna Warner, of Crossville, special friend.
Pallbearers were Joey Freeman, Rob Woody, Steve Woody, Dana Eggenton, Dan Bensch and Tommy Button.

Luther E. Russell Jr.
April 22, 2004
Luther Ernest Russell Jr., 70, of Rockwood, passed away April 22, 2004. Graveside services were conducted April 25 at Dogwood Cemetery, with the Rev. John Holland officiating.
Mr. Russell was a member of Grievers Chapel Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed and loved very much by family and special friends. He was and will be loved forever.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Russell of Rockwood; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Roxanne Russell of Spring City; daughters, Debbie Garrison of Kingston and Leslie Russell of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Stephanie Long of Kingston, Krissy Long of Kingston, Travis Garrison and his wife, Natalie, of Kingston and James Dye of Spring City; and great-grandson, Cody Garrison of Kingston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ruby Russell.

Paul E. Strauch
April 11, 2004

Paul E. Strauch passed away April 11, 2004 at the Wharton Nursing Home in the Uplands Retirement Village in Tennessee. Born in Cressona, PA, to Lambert and Jennie Strauch, Paul graduated from Cressona High School and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. In 1941 he graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary and was ordained into the ministry of the Evangelical and Reformed Church.
On July 13, 1941, he married Melva Kathryn Peifly, his college classmate, in Neffs, PA, and they established their home in Freemansburg, where Paul served his first parish.
Over the next two decades Paul ministered to the Evangelical and Reformed congregations of Grace Church in Buffalo, NY, and First Church in Takoma Park, MD. In 1958 Paul joined the national staff of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, leading the Commission on Stewardship as the executive secretary. With the establishment of the United Church of Christ in 1962, he became the secretary for Christian Education. In 1968 he was called to be pastor of Faith United Church of Christ in New Cumberland, PA, and in 1974 served the First Congregational Church in Danbury, CT.
Paul and Melva retired to Markelsville, PA, and then in 2000 became residents of Uplands Retirement Village in Tennessee. Melva passed away in 2003.
Paul and Melva raised four sons, John of San Diego, CA; Joel of Larchmont, NY; Timothy of Watertown, WI; and Thomas of Salem, OR; and are survived by their sons, daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.
With Melva's support, Paul provided leadership in many capacities in their communities. He was active in education serving on the Board of Lancaster Theological Seminary, in urban renewal and housing with Friends Cooperative Housing in Philadelphia and Habitat for Humanity, and in the arts with Perry County Council on the Arts. He pursued many hobbies and interests including gardening, chess, golf, international travel, carpentry, theater, reading, music and playing the cello.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Pleasant Hill Community Church in Tennessee for Christian education.

Roger P. Gentry
July 17, 1956 - April 13, 2004
Roger Paul Gentry, 47, of Crossville, passed away April 13, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. Bro. Mike Kerley officiated. The City of Crossville Honor Guard, consisting of firemen and policemen, were present for the services. Special music was performed by Abby Easterwood and Kacey Easterwood.
Mr. Gentry was born July 17, 1956 in Crossville, the son of Henry Clay Gentry and Lorene Brock Gentry.
He was an operations technician II at Meadow Park Lake water treatment plant and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gina Mata Gentry of Crossville; sons, Martin Lee Gentry of Crossville, Abel Gentry and Johnny Gentry of Montana, Todd Gentry of Murfreesboro and Frankie Alvereza; daughters, Becky Contrez of Montana, Christy Gentry, Wana Lee Hennessee and Jackie Gentry, all of Crossville; mother, Lorene Gentry of Crossville; grandchildren, Henry, Gabby, Priscilla, Roger, Trinity, Ethan, Shaynea, Sierra, Gina, Nathan, Anna, Christopher, Matthew, Brandon, Taylor, Zachary, Isabella, Gregory, Natalia, one in Murfreesboro and two in Montana; and brother, Carl Gentry of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Gentry; and brother, Gary Gentry.
Pallbearers were Derrick Hayes, Larry Kerley, Kevin Bagley, Keith Hood, Michael Hennessee, Sam Houston, Gerald Hood and James Honeycutt.

Nov. 20, 1947 - April 13, 2004

Paul Wayne Gibbons, 56, of Crossville, passed away April 13, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. John Hodge officiating and special music by Jay Fox, Betty Green, Peggy Raines Tuter and Charlie Brewer. Burial was in Green Acres Memory Gardens with DAV Honor Guard Chapter 32 providing the military honors of presentation of flag, firing detail and "Taps."
Mr. Gibbons was born Nov. 20, 1947 in Cookeville, the son of Riley and Delphia Stewart Gibbons.
He was in maintenance at Hilltoppers and a member of the Nazarene Church. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Sue Pugh Gibbons of Crossville; son, Benny Lee Gibbons of Crossville; daughters, Jo Ann Gibbons and Betty Sue Gibbons of Crossville; mother, Delphia Gibbons of Crossville; brothers, Daniel, George and David Gibbons of Crossville; and sisters, Mary Ruth Ford, Margaret Ann Medley, Martha Smith and Alma Katherine Bohannon, all of Crossville.

Charles R. Gibson
April 15, 2004

Charles Rayburn Gibson, 67, of Crossville (Tansi), passed away April 15, 2004. A memorial service was conducted April 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Kemper officiating.
Mr. Gibson was born in Arab, AL, the son of Robert F. and Estelle Seals Gibson.
He was a spring maker and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lawrence Gibson of Crossville; sons, Michael Aaron Gibson of Hendersonville, NC, Jeffrey Ward Gibson of Antioch, TN, Toby Joe Gibson of Hendersonville, NC and Phillip Mann Lawrence of Carthage, TN; daughter, Jennifer Gibson of Salem, OR; seven wonderful grandchildren; and brother, Woody Gibson of Collierville, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gwen Swims.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Murfreesboro VA Hospital Hospice.

Roy Schultz
March 27, 1919 - April 14, 2004

Roy Schultz, 85, of Crossville, passed away April 14, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 17 at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, IL, with burial in Chapel Hill Gardens.
Mr. Schultz was born March 27, 1919 in Villa Park, IL, the son of Robert Arthur Schultz and Ruth Henrietta Andersen Schultz.
He was a technician for Argon-Labs.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Bagley Schultz of Crossville; sons, William Schultz of Villa Park, IL and Donald Schultz of Addison, IL; daughter, Donna Swiston of Villa Park, IL; sisters, Ruth Ciancio of Villa Park, IL and Marion Burke of Everglade, FL; and brother, Bob Schultz of Illinois.

Brian M. Spetka
July 17, 1952 - April 20, 2004

Brian McKinnon Spetka, 51, passed away April 20, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Newark, Ohio on July 17, 1952 to Richard L. and Hazel M. Spetka. Mr. Spetka was preceded in death by grandparents Roy and Margaret Spetka and Elroy ("Mac") and Mary Emma McKinnon; brother, Richard Roy Spetka; and mother, Hazel M. Spetka. He is survived by his father, Richard L. Spetka of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; his brother, Dr. Lawrence M. (Christine) Spetka of Toledo, Ohio; his sister, Marilyn Gaye Spetka of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, Charles Robert Spetka of Boston; his brother, Jason Grant Spetka of Phoenix, Arizona; niece, Emily Christine Spetka; and nephew, Matthew McKinnon Spetka of Toledo, Ohio; and many cousins and friends.
Mr. Spetka graduated from Mt. Vernon Senior High School in 1971. He had a love of photography and his photos are treasured by his family. He earned an associate degree in Social Work from Muskingum Area Technical College and worked at the Mt. Vernon, Ohio Developmental Center. He is also a former employee of the state of Ohio where he worked for the Columbus Developmental Center.
Mr. Spetka recently returned to Ohio after living in Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Before returning to Ohio, he lived in Cleveland, TN at Hilltop House where he was much loved and found a respite from his battle with mental illness. He fought his own personal battles, sometimes outrageously, often fiercely. Despite those battles, Brian had a friendly smile and a kind word for strangers. And when cancer took him to the front lines again, he met it with grace and acceptance.
His last place of residence was Regency Manor in Columbus, Ohio where he quickly and easily won the hearts of the staff and other residents. He died peacefully at the Kobacker House hospice in Columbus with family at his side. His battles are over, his peace won. He will be missed here, but his family and friends have no doubt that he will make his eternal residence an even more interesting place to be.
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).

Geraldine M. Piper
Sept. 18, 1916 - April 13, 2004
Geraldine Marie Piper, 87, of Pleasant Hill, passed away April 13, 2004 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville of health complications. She was born Sept. 18, 1916 to Zina and Bessie Piper of St. Marie, IL. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on May 30 at the Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Always thinking of education, Geri graciously donated her body to the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. Her ashes will be interred at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Geri moved to Uplands village in 1987 after a very prolific career in public health. Geri was a registered dietitian and public health nutritionist by choice and training. She published numerous articles and held the Presidency of the American Dietetic Association, received the United States Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal, was named outstanding alumni of Eastern Illinois University and received the Arch of Achievement and Century Leader awards from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Geri promoted public heath and traveled through more than 45 countries during her tenure with the USPHS in Washington, DC. She accepted a uniformed officer's position with the USPHS in 1952 and, as Captain Piper, consulted nationally for the diabetes control program, gerontology and played a pivotal role in developing regulation for dietary services for skilled nursing homes, home health care, Meals on Wheels and developed the nationally known "Manpower" program.
She worked with educators and administered government grants to colleges and universities training dietitians, dietary technicians and public health nutritionist for health care facilities and agencies.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Leola Boyce of Pleasant Hill, and her brother, Harold Piper of Champaign, IL.
Her youngest sister, Dorothy Cabeen, still resides in Lynchburg, VA.
Geri will be missed by a family of friends from across the world, but no more missed than by her family whom she loved and nurtured.

Marguerite L. Ring
Oct. 3, 1931 - April 10, 2004

Marguerite Lucille Ring, 72, of Pleasant Hill, passed away April 10, 2004. Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Pleasant Hill Community Church. The Rev. Tom Warren will officiate.
Mrs. Ring was born Oct. 3, 1931 in Landour, India, the daughter of Frank and Ruby Fairchild Nicodem.
She was retired from Jan Saxon Yacht, working in title search, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church. She served on the Auxiliary board of directors at Wharton Nursing Home. She was an artist and loved making crafts, knitting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband, William V. Ring of Pleasant Hill; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Jill Ring of Greenville, SC and Paul and Lisa Ring of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Lynnora and Daniel Beezley of Coconut Creek, FL; brothers, Harold Nicodem and Frank Nicodem, both of Barrington, FL; sister-in-law, Christine Nicodem of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Beezley and James Ring and six foster children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Shirley A. Sherrill

Shirley Ann Sherrill, 69, of Crossville, passed away April 15, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. Bro. Junior Pugh and Bro. Bob Heise officiated, with special music by Joy and Chester Goad.
Mrs. Sherrill was born June 24, 1934 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Francis and Retha Yancer Thompson.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Sherrill of Crossville; son, Gary Sherrill of Elyria, OH; daughters, Michele South and Loretta Roysdon, both of Crossville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Thomas Thompson of Carson, CA; and sisters, Irene Gardner of Elyria, OH, Harriet Thompson of Oceanside, CA and Vivian Donaldson of Welington, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Campbell and Lawrence Emery.

Robert L. Wagoner

Robert Lee "Bob" Wagoner, 67, of Crossville, passed away April 20, 2004. Private graveside services were held at Family Gardens in Cumberland County, with Bro. Jim Scott officiating.
Mr. Wagoner was born April 16, 1937 in Tennessee, the son of Robert Wagoner and Vera Lee Roberts Wagoner.
He worked for the county road department.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wagoner of Pleasant Hill; stepchildren, Kenneth Wayne Smith of Pleasant Hill, Rhonda Sue Sanders of Nashville, David, Barry, Jeff and Jim, all of Pleasant Hill; granddaughter, Kristie Kylne Bohannon of Nashville; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Teresa J. M. Wilson
Jan. 18, 1962 - April 14, 2004

Teresa Jean Marlow Wilson, 42, of Ashland City, TN, passed away April 14, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Carleton Thackston and Sandy Shawhan officiating. Family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Sunday, two hours prior to the service.
Ms. Wilson was born Jan. 18, 1962 in Rockwood, TN, the daughter of Ralph and Wanda Montgomery Marlow.
She was a nurse tech and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended Roane State Community College. She was an avid reader and loved working with children.
Survivors include her son, Jacob Wilson of Ashland City; daughter, Jessica Wilson of Crossville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellen and Wesley Walden of Ashland City and Rachel and Ronnie Marlow of Crossville; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Dina Marlow of California.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by he brother, Gary Wayne Marlow; stepsister, Cathy Gibson; and stepmother, Jane Cravens Marlow.

Ella Beaty

Ella Beaty, 84, of the Crossroads near Monterey, passed away April 16, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 18 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with interment in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Arlen Bryant officiated.
Mrs. Beaty was born July 10, 1919 in Fentress County, TN, the daughter of Huge and Louisa Brown Hicks.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Life Christian Fellowship World Wide Church of God.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Beaty on May 27, 2003.

Mary L. Davis-Kalivoda
Sept. 30, 1927 - April 9, 2004

Mary Lee (Bobbi) Davis-Kalivoda passed away April 9, 2004. Services will be held at Mount Auburn Mortuary in Stickney, IL.
Mrs. Davis-Kalivoda was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Roba and Rissie Davis.
She was of the Baptist faith. She moved her family to Illinois in August 1956 where she supported her family by working at TRW as a quality control inspector. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Cumberland County.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte L. Moore and Sherry A. McCloud; grandchildren, Mary Ann Moore, Tim Moore, Christina McCloud and Grace McCloud; brothers, Junior and Richard Davis; sisters, Edith Davis, Christine Keyes, Ernestine Blaylock, Maxine Beaty and Geri Pugh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Mitchell McCloud; brother, Sylvester Davis; sister, Elisie Dunlap; and husband, Edward Kalivoda.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Special Olympics.

Robert G. Mason
Feb. 9, 1931 - April 13, 2004

Robert Gary Mason, 73, of Lake Tansi, passed away April 13, 2004. A memorial service was conducted April 17 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Lampman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI.
Mr. Mason was born Feb. 9, 1931 in Waukesha, WI, the son of Cecil and Elise Mason.
He was retired from Milwaukee County, Wisconsin where he served as a deputy sheriff. He also served in the United States Air Force where he received the Korean Service Medal with four bronze battle stars. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Patricia Mason; children, Leilani Smieja and her husband, Scott, Curt C. Mason, April Sinclair and her husband, Kevin, and Wayne Mason and his wife, Jennifer, all of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Becky Keller and her husband, Keith, Andrea Smieja, Ryan Smieja, Katherine Smieja and Curt A. Mason; great-grandchildren, Candace and Mya Keller; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Margaret Mason, Homer Mason of Milwaukee, WI and Gordon and Janice Mason of Nekoosa, WI; and sister and brother-in-law, Elise and Allen Rieder of Milwaukee, WI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Carol Mason; and sister-in-law, Kimiko Mason.

Herbert H. Selby

Herbert Hulan Selby, 82, of Smith Chapel, TN, passed away April 13, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 16 at the Smith Chapel Baptist Church, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Bros. Harold Robinson, T.L. Page and Frank Davis officiated.
Mr. Selby was born Nov. 17, 1921 in White County, TN, the son of Nathan and Minniesota Milligan Selby.
He was in construction and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Page Selby of Smith Chapel; sons, Jerry Selby of Smith Chapel, Glenn Selby of Indiana, Thurman Selby, Steve Selby and Keith Selby, all of Smith Chapel; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie England and Lovie Simmons; and brothers, Clayton, Will, Comer, Robert, Ben, Dee, Frank and Burl Selby.

Julianna Belle Surcuilas, age 3 months, passed away April 6, 2004. Graveside services were conducted April 10 at Crossville City Cemetery, with Bro. Vern Daugherty officiating.
Julianna was born Dec. 30, 2003, in Crossville, the daughter of James Whaley and Amanda Surcuilas.
Survivors include her mother, Amanda Surcuilas of Crossville; father, James Whaley of Crossville; sisters, Kayla Ann Whaley and Gena Ruth Whaley, both of Crossville; and grandparents, Joseph and Patricia Surcuilas of Crossville.

Nancy C. W. Beeson
Feb. 7, 1918 - March 20, 2004
Nancy Cox Wilkes Beeson, beloved mother, peacefully went to rest with her Lord on March 20, 2004 in Houston, Texas. Graveside services were held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, March 26, 2004.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1918, the daughter of Henry Oren Cox and Amelia Margaret Young, at the family farm near Maryville, TN.
A direct descendant of both Mayflower ancestors and pioneer settlers, she valued her heritage and her family. Nancy touched many lives and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Col. Harvey Alonzo Wilkes; husbands, Dempsey Vinsant and DeWitt Beeson; grandson, John Quenzer Jr.; sisters, Anna Belle and Margaret; and brother, Henry.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Harper of Houston, TX and Carol Quenzer and husband, John, of Kingwood, TX; sons, William Wilkes and wife, Denny, of Memphis, TN, John Wilkes of Houston, TX and Charles Wilkes and wife, Rosemary, of Bulverde, TX; stepdaughter, Amy Felgar and husband, Al, of Portsmouth, NH; and stepson, Mark Beeson and wife, Vicky, of Denver, CO.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Schmidt of Houston, TX; Charles Schmidt and wife, Jennifer, of Houston, TX; Mark Quenzer and Bruce Quenzer of Houston, TX; Steven Quenzer and wife, Angelina, of Las Vegas, NV; Deron Wilkes and wife, Amy; Jessica Howerton and husband, Billy; Tad Wilkes and wife, Mindy; Amy Wilkes and Jonathan Wilkes, all of Memphis, TN; Drew Wilkes of Houston TX; Matthew Wilkes and Daniel Wilkes of Bulverde, TX, as well as seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

George V. Dasher
Nov. 16, 1961 - April 4, 2004

George Vincent Dasher, 42, of Crossville, passed away April 4, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 8 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bros. Greg Williams and Joey Whittenburg officiated.
Mr. Dasher was born Nov. 16, 1961 in Miami, FL, the son of James Melton Dasher and Patricia Wilbanks Dasher.
He was an operating engineer (crane operator) for IUOE Local 487, Miami, FL. He was a designer and builder of airboats, a hunter, diver, fisherman, race car builder, mechanic and a metal fabricator. He was a Christian.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia Dasher of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Daniel Hyman of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, James "Michael" and Lisa Dasher of Miami, FL; nephews, Justin and Jarod Bell of Crossville; and nieces, Heather and Jamie Dasher of Miami, FL.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Melton Dasher; and grandparents, Charles George Dasher and Marion E. Carlyle and J.T. Wilbanks and Mable Goss Wilbanks Cobble.
Pallbearers were Charles Asberry, Michael Asberry, James Whittenburg, Joey Whittenburg, Shane Hancock, Tom Hunsucker and Duke Lowe.

Mary J. Green
July 14, 1912 - April 1, 2004

Mary Jane Green, 91, of Crossville, passed away April 1, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 4 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. A.J. Looper officiated, with special music by Sam Looper, Clarice McNeal and Mary Jane King.
Mrs. Green was born July 14, 1912 in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Hillman and Tempie Weeks Hassler.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Woodie Green of Cheifland, FL, Henry and Teresa Green, Junior and Janie Green and Donnie and Eileen Green, all of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, May and Bill Lesh of St. Petersburg, FL and Mazelle and Ron Dyke of San Bernardino, CA; brother, Herbert Hassler of Monterey, TN; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Green; sons, Luther and William Green; and grandchildren; Billy and Michael Green.

Emmie D. Sappington

Emmie Dell Sappington, 85, of Crossville, passed away April 11, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 13 at Gregory's Chapel Assembly of God in Humboldt, TN, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt. The Rev. Randel McCarty officiated.
Mrs. Sappington was born Jan. 8, 1919 in Dickson County, TN.
She was a retired cafeteria manager and a member of Faith Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Anna Pickard of Crossville, Rachel Ballentine of Humboldt, Margaret Bunnell of Hamlin, KY and Etta Hunt of Alamo, TN; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, the Rev. V.V. McCoy, Doyle McCoy and Joe McCoy, all of Jackson, TN; sister-in-law, Marie McCoy of Jackson; and sisters, Charlotte Hudson, Kay Doulin and Carol Buddie, all of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marshall E. Scarbrough and William Wade Sappington II; son, William Wade Sappington III; brothers, Harlan McCoy, Arnold McCoy, Owen McCoy, the Rev. E.T. McCoy and O'Neal McCoy; and sisters, Delphia Pickens and Hildred Eubanks Climer.

Richard Martin Smith, 68, passed away April 6, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 8 from the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah, TN, with burial in Wilkerson Cemetery in Hardin County, TN.
Mr. Smith was a truck driver for Flowers Bakery, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a former resident of Monterey, TN and Aurora, IL. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Pickens Smith of Murfreesboro; daughters, Janet Louise Bush of Murfreesboro, Cynthia Simmons of Eustis, FL and Brenda Borneman of Naperville, IL; sister, Judy Wellington of Batavia, IL; brother, Ronald Smith of N. Aurora, IL; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Brian Paul Bohannon, 20, of Crossville, passed away March 31, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bohannon Cemetery in Cookeville. Bro. Bobby Floyd officiated.
Mr. Bohannon was born Dec. 21, 1983 in Crown Point, IN, the son of Joe Sadula and Charlene Bohannon Sadula.
He was an employee for set up of mobile homes and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Charlene Sadula of Crossville; father, Joe Sadula of Bradley, IL; stepfather, Bill Tollett of Crossville; grandparents, David Bohannon of Crossville and Sandra Young of Hammond, IN; brothers, Joseph, Travis and Keith Sadula, all of Crossville; and sisters, Heather and Angela Sadula of Crossville.

Samantha "Sam" Jean Hall, 21, of Crossville, passed away April 5, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 8 at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, with interment in Potter's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Curtis Diden officiated.
Ms. Hall was born Feb. 15, 1983 and grew up in Wartburg.
She loved to play basketball and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her mother, Connie Sue Wyatt; father, Michael Hall; brother, Kenny Hall of Wartburg; uncles and aunts, Doug and Terri Griffith, Betty and Jerry Hood, Danny and Tina Griffith, Jenny and Curtis Diden, Eddie and Crystal Griffith, Charlotte and Glen Justus, Gwen and Johnny Brown, Mary and Randy Hood, Clarence Laymance, Glenda and David Price, Gary and Willadean Hall and Elmer and Brenda Laymance; and many other cousins, relatives and friends.

Roy Thomas "R.T." Phillips, 81, of Crossville, passed away April 5, 2004. Funeral services were conducted April 7 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Jack Irwin officiating. Graveside committal services were held April 8 at Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was born Feb. 27, 1923 in Loudon County, TN.
He was a local businessman for more than 50 years, the owner of Phillips Jewelry. He also had stores in surrounding locations. He loved to bowl and play golf, was a member of the Jaycees and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Phillips of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Sharon Phillips, Larry Phillips and Cindy Perrine and Jerry and Lisa Phillips, all of Crossville; brother, Joe Phillips of Crossville; sister, Della Sutton of Athens, TN; grandchildren, Jede Phillips, Aprel Phillips and Breanna Phillips; and great-grandchild, Ryley Phillips.

Byron L. Adkins

Byron Lansdon Adkins, 82, of Crossville, passed away March 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted March 27 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike McCoy officiating with a Masonic service also being held. Graveside committal services were conducted March 28 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mr. Adkins was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Fentress County, the son of James Wheeler and Alpha Reagan Adkins.
He was a retired bus driver for Greyhound and a Navy veteran, having served our country during World War II. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #477 for more than 50 years and had held several positions in the lodge during that time with one being past master.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Adkins of Crossville; sons, Russell Norris and Chad Norris, both of Jamestown; daughter, Regina Baltimore of Jamestown; brothers and sister-in-law, Harris and Helen Adkins of Kingsport and Kenneth Adkins of Clarkrange; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gerry and Elred Taylor of Jamestown and Hallie and George Elmore of Crossville; and grandchildren, Cassie, Tiffany and Kelly Norris, Cody Baltimore and Colton and Kelsey Norris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Luther Elmore.

Jewell Hopkins "Bert" Bertram Jr., 72, of Crossville, passed away March 21, 2004. Bro. George Long officiated.
Mr. Bertram was born April 26, 1931 in Glasgow, KY, the son of Jewell H. Bertram Sr. and Gladys Dearing Bertram.
He was an automotive salesman and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bertram of Crossville; sons, Gary Bertram of Dallas, TX, Mike Bertram of Crossville and Randy Bertram of Dallas, TX; daughter, Kim Rimes of Crossville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Brenda Foster of Lewisville, TX.

Helen L. Davenport

Helen Lois Davenport, 87, of Crossville, passed away March 18, 2004. Funeral services were conducted March 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Carleton Thackston officiated.
Mrs. Davenport was born Dec. 12, 1916 in Smythe County, VA, the daughter of Charles and Carrie Shupe DeBord.
She was a secretary, member of the Eastern Star and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Gilda DeBord of Johnson City and Martha DeBord of Rural Retreat, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Davenport; and brothers, Rex E. and Joe B. Davenport.

Jane Hyder
March 12, 1914 - March 20, 2004

Jane Hyder, 90, of Wooster, OH, formerly of Crossville, passed away March 20, 2004 at the Hospice Hospital in Copley, OH. Graveside services will be held at the Davis Cemetery in Crossville at a later date.
Ms. Hyder was born March 12, 1914 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Jessie and Zenia Davis Hyder.
She had lived in Wooster, OH, for 63 years. She worked at Rubbermaid as an inspector for 29 years. After retirement, she enjoyed working in her garden and flower garden, and made many trips back to Tennessee. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her brothers, Floyd Hyder of Copley, OH and Harold Hyder of Wachula, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie Campbell and Nettie Sabot; and brothers, Roy, Allan, Albert, Homer and Ernest Hyder.

Stanley J. Taylor
Jan. 11, 1929 - March 27, 2004

Stanley James Taylor, 75, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 27, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 8 at the Fairfield Glade Community Church with the Rev. Dale Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Marble Creek Cemetery in Milan, MI.
Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 11, 1929 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of William and Lucille Auten Taylor.
He married Georgiana Drevdahl on July 8, 1950.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiana Taylor of Fairfield Glade; son, Thomas J. (Ronda) Taylor of Marquette, MI; daughters, Deborah Jean (Ralph) Bedogne of Escanaba, MI and Terri Lynn (Cary) Tripp of Whitmore Lake, MI; grandsons, Sontino Bedogne and Lewis Tripp; and granddaughters, Jorrie Bedogne, Traci Taylor and Jillian Tripp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wesley Taylor and John Taylor; and sister, Doris Anne Gauntlett.
