Strong Martin when it was bombed. They were also stationed at
Panama together. He had many interesting stories to tell of those
times and other experiences he had during World War II.
After retiring from the Army, Mr. Smith worked at Cape Canaveral,
FL for 14 years before settling in the Chestnut Hill Community
of Cumberland County, where he lived until the last months of

anymore for a few days, Robin, until I can get this canned."

with a basket or a bucket or a bushel of something.
Mr. Smith dearly loved his brother Asa, and his wife, Sue, and
didn't get to see them nearly as often as he wanted in the last
years of his live. He was forever talking about his neice Linda
Longino and nephew Keith. While living in Georgia the last 10
months of his life, he was able to be around them and catch up
on old times. He worried about being a burden or inconvenience
to the family, and had a very humble spirit and was continually
expressing his thanks to anyone who did anything for him. Although
he had no children of his own, he was loved and cherished by
his niece and nephew and many cousins as if they all were his
own children.
