FLORENCE ENGLE
Florence "Saunie" Engle, 72, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 23, 2000. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Fairfield Glade. Carl Gunderson will officiate.
Mrs. Engle was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Bangor, WI.
She was a hospital dietician.
Survivors include her husband, John Engle of Fairfield Glade; stepsons, Brian Engle of San Diego, CA, and Tom Engle of Athens, OH; sister, Millie Freng of La Cross, WI; and brothers, Earl Severson of La Crosse, and Herb Severson of Sparta, WI.

BILLY JUNIOR FRANCE
Billy Junior France, 59, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 26, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 29 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville, TN, with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Leslie Hickey officiated.
Mr. France was born Aug. 12, 1941, the son of Audie Paton and Vullah Mary Hutchins France.
He was a commercial truck driver and diesel mechanic for 40 years, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Janie A. France of Crossville; sons, William A. France of Crossville, and Dean France and Robbie France, both of McMinnville, TN; stepsons, Teddy Luna of Smithville and Eddie Luna of McMinnville; stepdaughters, Paula Boring and Pam Hankins, both of Crossville, and Jeanette Scott of McMinnville; brother, Earl Dean France of Smithville; sister, Barbara Young of McMinnville; and 15 grandchildren.

CLELLA L. GARRETT
Clella L. Garrett, 88, of the Martha Washington community, passed away Oct. 26, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 29 at Clarkrange Chapel-Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown, TN, with burial in Clarkrange Cemetery.
Mrs. Garrett was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Jamestown, the daughter of Sherman and Florence White.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Pat Garrett and Ray and Linda Garrett, all of Clarkrange, TN, and Willard and Mamie Garrett of Dayton, OH; daughters, Louise South of Clarkrange and Velma Hanahan of Dayton; daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Homer Norrod of Dayton; brothers, Clyde White of Dayton, and Dempsey White of Crossville; sister, Reba Nell Holmes of Crossville; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Florence White; her husband, Ernest Clayton Garrett; son, Herbert Garrett; brothers, Cordell White and Clifford White; and sisters, Ruth Wilson, Leffie Wilson and Juanita Copeland.

JAMES JULIAN JOHNSON
James Julian "Jake" Johnson, 90, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 14, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 16 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with Ed McClellan officiating. Graveside services were conducted Oct. 17 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Franklin, KY.
Mr. Johnson was born April 11, 1910, in Allen County, KY, the son of James and Elizabeth Dixon Johnson.
He was a retired electrician of Westmoreland Coal Co., and a member of Fairfield Glade Methodist Church. He was a member of High Noon of Fairfield Glade, the Coeburn (VA) Masonic Lodge and the Bogey Bunch Golf Club at Fairfield Glade.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnson of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Sheila Johnson of New Braunfels, TX; sister, Pauline Johnson of Bowling, KY; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County.

JOE LEE SHERRILL
Joe Lee Sherrill, 60, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 22, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. Bro. Ralph Reagan officiated.
Mr. Sherrill was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Cumberland County, the son of Hullen and Bricie Randolph Sherrill.
He was a laborer at a rock quarry, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Dannels Sherrill of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Connie Sherrill and Jamey and Tresha Sherrill, all of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, June and Charles Asberry and Carla and Lynn McNeal, all of Crossville, and Patricia Sherrill of Crab Orchard; brother, Robert Sherrill of Crossville; sister, Mildred Derossett of Crossville; 16 grandchildren, Crystal, Wesley, Johnny, Kim, Brandon, Brittney, Chelsea, Haley, Miranda, Brad, Casey, Jim, Krista, Amy, Annie and Victoria; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hullen and Bricie Sherrill; daughter, Vickie Sherrill; and brothers, Paul Sherrill, Buster Sherrill, Jack Sherrill and Ray Sherrill.

JOHN LEE THURMAN
John Lee Thurman, 88, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 23, 2000, at Wharton Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 at Trinity Tabernacle, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Bowen, the Rev. Gary Hansen and the Rev. Andrew Wharton officiated.
Mr. Thurman was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Pikeville, TN, the son of John C. and Beulah Swafford Thurman.
He was a teacher, and a member of Trinity Tabernacle.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Kate Cline Thurman of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Idelle Roberts; and brothers, Dennis "Vic" Patton and Hollis Henry Thurman.
Pallbearers were Harrol Cline, Will Bumbalough, Steve Barnes, Gene Tollett, Bedford Patterson and Marvin Swallows.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Crawford, Gary Neal, Max McGlashen, David Robinson and Ed Hughes.

GENEVA AGLE BILBREY
Geneva Agle Bilbrey, 67, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 23, 2000, at Oak Ridge Methodist Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Steven Pickard officiated.
Ms. Bilbrey was born July 3, 1933, in Deer Lodge, TN, the daughter of Dailey and Debbie Jones Hall.
She was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons, Tommy Bilbrey and Leroy Bilbrey, both of Crossville; daughters, Sandy Gilbert, Patricia Bilbrey, Peggy Bilbrey, Shirlene Smith and Joann Myers, all of Crossville, and Helen Marsh of White Lake, WI; brothers, Ronald Hall, Roland Hall and Arnold Hall, all of Deer Lodge; sisters, Hallie Winn and Bernice Hinch, both of Crossville; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Gary Winn, Bobby Dyer, Donnie Owens, Gary Owens, Douglas Blaylock and Chad Houston.

DEZZIE FAYE HAMPTON
Dezzie Faye Hampton, 86, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2000. Memorial services were conducted Oct. 25 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home. H. Vern Daugherty officiated.
Ms. Hampton was born Dec. 25, 1913, in Dodge, TX, the daughter of Barclay and Clara Mae Atkinson Hammer.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Julia Hampton; grandchildren, Debra Creasey and David Hampton; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Homeless Shelter of Cumberland County.

BILLY SMITH
Billy "Turkey" Smith, 41, of the Alloway community, passed away Oct. 22, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Harris Cemetery. Randall Dye officiated.
Mr. Smith was born March 1, 1959, in Roane County, TN, the son of Earl and Gladys Farr Smith.
He was a stoneworker, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Smith of Alloway; brothers, Raymond Smith, Ronnie Smith and Johnny Smith, all of Alloway; and a niece, Mary Waldo of Alloway.
Pallbearers were Jack Waldo, Allen Pendleton, John Kunkel, Donnie Garrison, Blake Waldo, Junior Waldo, Gene Johnson and John Hall.

MARTHA JANE WEBB
Martha Jane Webb, 95, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 23, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Lantana Cemetery. David Dalton and Odell Kirby officiated.
Mrs. Webb was born Dec. 12, 1904, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Dardis and Viola Hedgecoth.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Pearl Hassler and Margie Hicks, both of Crossville, Lola Anderson of LaGrange, OH, Ethel Wright of Oak Ridge, TN, and Shelba Kennedy of Knoxville, TN; sons, Milo Webb and Ed Webb, both of Crossville, and Litton Webb of LaGrange, OH; sisters, Ava Lee Neal of Crossville; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dardis and Viola Hedgecoth; her husband, William Frank Webb; sons, Roy Webb and Elmo Ray Webb; a sister, Stella Brown; and brothers, Charlie Hedgecoth, Daley Hedgecoth and Nathan Hedgecoth.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Webb's grandsons.

JANIE LELA BRADDOCK
Janie Lela Braddock, 88, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2000, in WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. The Rev. George Long officiated.
Mrs. Braddock was born April 28, 1912, in Relief, NC, the daughter of Elbert and Emily Peterson Edwards.
She was a beautician, and a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Braddock of Crossville; nephew, Dr. Henry Edwards of Maryville, TN; and niece, Linda Edwards of Roanoke, VA.
Pallbearers were Homer Taylor, Danny Taylor, Clyde Taylor, Dr. Henry Edwards, Tommy Buttons and Linda Edwards.

VERDIA FAY DIXON
Verdia Fay Dixon, 79, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2000, in Equality, AL. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 22 at Oak Hill Baptist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Russell Honeycutt officiated, with special music by Glennis Patton.
Mrs. Dixon was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Foil, OK, the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Doshia Millard Burnett.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Dallas Dixon Jr. of Equality, AL; two grandchildren, Tammy Lee Ross and Travis Daniel Dixon; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Renee Ross and Anna Lee Ross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Daniel Dixon; a brother, Joe Burnett; and a sister, Ellen Hyder.

Willie Marie Mahaney, 86, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 21 at Liberty Baptist Church, with burial in Mayland Cemetery. Billy Smith and Joey Smith officiated.
Ms. Mahaney was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Fentress County, TN.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Smith; sons, Earnest Mahaney, Estes Mahaney, David Mahaney, James Mahaney and Everett Mahaney; 33 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Susie Ruth Parham, 88, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Dr. James H. Beasley Jr. officiated, with special music by Rachael Beaty, Kim White and GeorgeAnn Upshaw.
Mrs. Parham was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Samuel and Mollie Hale Agee.
She was a sales clerk, and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Garrett and Shirley Carey, both of Crossville; brother, Marion Agee of Crossville; sister, Emma Hedgecoth of Crossville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Parham; and four brothers, Willie Agee, Fred Agee, Clarence Agee and Ernest Agee.
Pallbearers were Pat Agee, Ted Agee, Steve Luttrell, Blaine Hedgecoth, Daniel Carey, Jason Carey and Glenn Agee.

THOMAS JOE ELLER
Thomas Joe Eller, 60, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 14, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Anderson Cemetery. Bro. Robert Dodson officiated.
Mr. Eller was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Cumberland County, the son of Tom and Daisy Dodson Eller.
He was a farm worker.
Survivors include his sister, Daisy Stafford of Crossville; and four brothers, A.E. Eller, George Eller and Albert Eller, all of Crossville, and Bob Eller of Muncie, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Daisy Eller; four sisters, Nancy Eller, Mary Chambers, Lora Wyatt and Pearl Woody; and three brothers, Claude Eller, James Eller and William Eller.
Pallbearers were Lynn Miller, Ronald Stafford, Clayton Eller, Steve Eller, Boyd Flowers and Keith Martin.

FARRIE LEE HALL
Farrie Lee "F.L." Hall, 81, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 17, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 19 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Garden. George Long and Roger Sickmiller officiated. Graveside Masonic services were performed by Past Master Vaughn Davis and Chaplain Bob Usher.
Mr. Hall was born May 4, 1919, in Overton County, TN, the son of Huey and Silvia Ashburn Hall.
He retired as an engineer from TVA, and was assistant funeral director of Burris Funeral Home. He served as a former board member of the First Christian Church of Crossville. He was an ambassador to Alhambra Shrine Club, and was a member of the Valley of Chattanooga Scottish Rite, Amanda Chapter No. 4 Order of Eastern Star, Crossville Lodge No. 483 F&AM, Woodmen of the World, and was former Justice of the Peace in Cumberland County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant.
Survivors include his wife, Valeria Simcox Hall of Crossville; daughters, Judy Smith and Barbara Tabor, both of Crossville; brother, O'Dell Hall of Knoxville, TN; sister, Trula Bowman of Monterey, TN; granddaughters, Christy Smith and Michelle Robinson, both of Crossville; grandson, Barry Tabor of Crossville; and great-grandchildren, Whitney Tabor, Patrick Robinson and Shelby Tabor, all of Crossville.
Pallbearers were Barry Tabor, Michael Hall, Chester Hall Jr., Billy Ray Phillips, Fred Goodell, Charlie Parker, Bruce Harner and Gordon Hedgecoth.
The Cumberland County Shrine Club served as honor guard and as honorary pallbearers.

BETTY CAROL HAMBY
Betty Carol Hamby, 77, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 16, 2000, in St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Irwin officiated.
Mrs. Hamby was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Livingston, TN, the daughter of Edgar and Venus Tuttle Hancock.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Steve Hamby of Crossville and Tony Hamby of Murray, KY; daughter, Brenda Sampson of Nashville; sisters, Marion Alterson of Chicago, IL, and Triva Christmas of Battle Creek, MI; brother, Edgar Hancock of Crossville; sister-in-law, Ellen Wendling of Doyle, TN; and three grandchildren, Brandy Hamby, Courtney Hamby and Stuart Vaughn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carl Hamby.
Pallbearers were J.E. Hamby, Jimmy Wilson, Jim Thompson, Buster Campbell, Don Rooker and George Young.

JUDITH ANN CARR
Judith Ann Carr, 58, of New Market, TN, passed away Oct. 16, 2000. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, TN, with Dr. Robert Reno officiating.
Visitation will be immediately after the service.
Ms. Carr was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Plymouth, IN, the daughter of Sam and Marie Carr.
She was a graduate of DePaul University with a master's degree in nursing, and also attended the University of Tennessee. She was a former professor of nursing at Carson-Newman College and had served in many capacities in nursing service at several hospitals. She was a registered nurse, and had recently received certification from the American Holistic Nursing Association, where she was cited as a "healing touch practitioner." She was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City.
Survivors include her parents, Sam and Marie Carr of Crossville; sisters, Donna Williams of Milford, CT, Janet Miller of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Mary Stagner of Shepardsville, KY; brother, Tom Carr of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard W. Carr.

FRANZISKA CLASSING
Franziska Classing, 73, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 13, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center. Memorial services were conducted Oct. 17 at Homesteads Baptist Church, with Dr. Dan D. Haskins Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Classing was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Margaret Burnett Nurnberger.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Homesteads Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Classing of Crossville; daughter, Valetta Clements of Lake Worth, FL; brother, Willie Nurnberger, and sister, Katie Crohe, both of Kaiserslautern.

REX DeBARR
Rex DeBarr, 87, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 13, 2000, in WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 17 at Ten Mile Methodist Church in Ten Mile, WV, with burial in Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. George Freeman officiated.
Mr. DeBarr was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Ten Mile, the son of James Washington and Grace Kittle DeBarr.
He was a coal miner, and a member of Pine Eden Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Olive Mae Keiling DeBarr of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Timmie and Max Moretz of Lantana, FL, Karen Thomas and Patty and David Strunk, all of Crossville, Leslie and Tony Marino and Marilyn and Joseph Kacsenek, all of Akron, OH, and Jeannie Rae Sargel of Mansfield, OH; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace DeBarr; daughter, Janet Riggs; brothers, Roy DeBarr, Carl DeBarr, Wayne DeBarr and Earl DeBarr; and sisters, Mary DeBarr, Dale Tinney and Gladys DeBarr.

EDITH ERNEST
Edith Ernest, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 11, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 15 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. B.J. Brown officiated.
Ms. Ernest was a service representative for G.T.E., and a member of Gospel Baptist Tabernacle.
Survivors include her daughter, Angie Ernest of Crossville; sisters, Eva Scarbrough of Crossville and Marie Wyatt of Hixson, TN; nephew, Steve Wyatt of Hixson; and great-nieces, Hannah Wyatt and Hayley Wyatt, both of Hixson.

BERLIN LESTER HEDGECOTH
Berlin Lester Hedgecoth, 77, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 13, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Noble Wright officiating. Graveside committal was Oct. 15 at New Home Cemetery.
Mr. Hedgecoth was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Cumberland County, the son of William Clinton and Martha Jane Brown Hedgecoth.
He was a steel worker for Roane Electric Furnace, and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis Hedgecoth of Clarkrange, TN, and Donnie Hedgecoth of Hebbertsburg, TN; daughter, Diana Smith of Crossville; sister, Bernice Price of Kingston, TN; mother of his children, Louise Hedgecoth of Centerville, TN; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Hedgecoth; brothers, Harold Hedgecoth, Paul Hedgecoth and Kenneth Hedgecoth; and sisters, Edna Hamby, Nola Hamby and Wilma Hedgecoth.

BRITTANY NICOLE SPERRY
Brittany Nicole Sperry, an infant, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 13, 2000. Graveside services were conducted Oct. 17 at Crossville City Cemetery, with the Rev. H. Vern Daugherty officiating.
Brittany was born Aug. 3, 2000, in Crossville, the daughter of Timothy and Lisa Wilson Sperry.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her maternal grandmother, Mary Harrison of Crossville; and paternal grandparents, Lena and Leslie Martin of Crossville.

Mary Lee Stafford Young, 79, of Gainesboro, TN, passed away Oct. 15, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 17 from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro, with burial in Young Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County, TN. Bro. John Whitson and Bro. Jason Young officiated.
Mrs. Young was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Jackson County, the daughter of Robert Lee and Elizabeth Vanhooser Stafford.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, Hubert Young of Gainesboro; brothers, James Stafford of Hartsville, TN, and Ross Stafford of Shelbyville, TN; sisters, Mattie Coffee of Scottsville, KY, and Erma Sue Meadows of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Marcel Young of Pikeville, TN, Marty Lee Young of Crossville, and Arlene Young of Carthage, TN; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Stafford; and her husband, Benton Young.

Mrs. Campbell was born Jan. 11, 1898, in Cumberland County, the daughter of William and Martha Presley Jones.

Ms. Hynes was born July 23, 1918, in Lansing, the daughter of John Charles and Clamina Grant.

JOHN HERMAN GILBERT
John Herman Gilbert, 78, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 8, 2000. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at St. Raphael's Episcopal Church.
Mr. Gilbert was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Darden, TN.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval pilot, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his naval career he lived in Fairbanks and Iliamna, AK. He was owner of Western Radio and Telephone, North State Telephone, Iliamna Air and The Fishing Shack, a hunting and fishing lodge in Iliamna.
Survivors include his son, Jay Raymond Gilbert of Memphis; daughters, Yvette Hagy of Crossville, Judalon Cox of Denver, CO, and Mary Moody of Waldron, AR; stepdaughter, Carol Wilmoth of Memphis; brother, Kermitt Gilbert of Darden; sister, Mabel Bevins of North Pole, AK; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bilbrey was born May 8, 1932, in Fentress County, TN, the son of Fate and Myrtle Littles Bilbrey.

She was a professional writer.

MALCOLM BRAY
Malcolm Bray, 87, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 29, 2000. Funeral services and burial will be in Roxbury, CT. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Congregational Church on Monday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
Mr. Bray was a native of Roxbury, CT, and moved to Crossville a year and a half ago.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Campaign in the Battle of the Bulge, earning the Combat Infantry badge, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Crossville. He was a constable and a Realtor in Roxbury, with more than 30 years' experience. As a Realtor, he served many world-renowned clients, such as William Styron, Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller, Joe DiMaggio and Richard Widmark, as well as many artists and writers. He worked as a volunteer at the White Memorial Foundation, a nature preserve.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Apgar Bray of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey G. and Mary M. Bray of Torrington, CT; stepdaughters, Jo Bray of Crossville and Judy Apgar Bray of Michigan; grandchildren, Robin L. Bray and Jeffrey Malcolm Bray of Connecticut; four step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, or the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund.

Ruth G. Licklider, 93, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sept. 30, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center. No services are planned at this time.
Ms. Licklider was born March 6, 1907, in Appleton, WI, the daughter of Norman and Nellie Wing Ovitt.
She was a bookkeeper for Arthur C. Trask & Co., and a member of the United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her nieces, Bonnie Nevue of Pleasant Hill and Beverly Burns of Laurens, SC; nephew, Douglas Adams of San Francisco, CA; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Forrest R. Morse, 74, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 28, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 1 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Linus Vaughn officiated.
Mr. Morse was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Toledo, OH, the son of Arthur and Susan Bourdo Morse.
He was a maintenance supervisor, and a member of Cumberland Worship Center. He was a member of the VFW in Yorkville, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Morse of Crossville; son, Dennis Morse of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters, Susan Futterer of Beeton, TX, Karen Veahaeghe of Crossville and Jennifer Morse of Pasco, WA; brother, Vern Morse of Oregon, OH; sister, Carolyn Smith of Port Richey, FL; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mr. Morse's grandsons and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Cumberland Worship Center.

DR. MINOR HAYS PRIGG
Dr. Minor Hays Prigg, 82, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Sept. 20, 2000. No services are planned. Burial was in Whites Chapel Cemetery.
Dr. Prigg was born May 26, 1918, in Washington, PA, the son of Clifford and Sophia Prigg.
He was a medical doctor.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David H. and Sandra Kay Prigg of Fairfield Glade; and daughter, Sandra G. Wilson of Clinton Township, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Galeen Prigg; and parents, Clifford and Sophia Prigg.

MAMIE DAVIS
Mamie Davis, 81, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 28, 2000, in WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Davis Cemetery. Bro. Joe James officiated.
Mrs. Davis was born March 2, 1919, in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of John and Florence Rosie Simmons Thomas.
She was a homemaker, and a charter member of Winesap Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Hellen Davis Mullinax of Crossville; sons, Lester Davis of Detroit, MI, Wesley Davis, Elbert Davis and Charlie Davis, all of Crossville; sister, Nellie Rose Crawford of Pikeville, TN; brother, Monroe Thomas of Pikeville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rainey Davis; brothers, Walter Thomas, Coy Thomas, Roy Thomas, Marion Thomas, Everett Thomas and Elmer Thomas; and sisters, Ollie Mae and Vina Lea Thomas.
Pallbearers were Lee Asberry, Carl Scott, Mike Asberry, Dwayne Davis, Nathan Davis and Richard Mullinax.

GENEVA PARKER GOODWIN
Geneva Parker Goodwin, of Knoxville, TN, passed away Sept. 23, 2000. A service of celebration and praise was held Sept. 25 at Stevens Mortuary, with Dr. Mike Boyd officiating. Graveside service and interment were Sept. 26 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Goodwin was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and the Martha Sunday school class, and was formerly a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Wallace Goodwin of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Eunice Goodwin of Knoxville; sister, Margie Woodhouse of Crossville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cheri and Chris Britton of Asheville, NC; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Christopher and Karen Goodwin of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Noah Britton; several cousins; and loving caretakers during her illness, Peggy Ford, Carolyn Romines, Lisa Mallicoat and Elizabeth Epps.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Myrtle Parker; and a son, David Parker.
The family requests memorials be made to the Wallace Memorial Church Building Fund or the Cerebral Palsy Center for Handicapped Adults, 241 E. Woodland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917.

WILLIE ESTEL HALE SR.
Willie Estel Hale Sr., 55, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 26, 2000. Graveside services were conducted Sept. 28 at Linary Cemetery. Bro. Mitchell Covington officiated.
Mr. Hale was born Sept. 10, 1945, in Cumberland County, the son of Gurlie and Hattie Brown Hale.
He was a county worker, and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammie Burnett of Crossville; son, Willie E. Hale Jr. of Crossville; sisters, Patricia Gunter and Joyce Tedder, both of Crossville, and Barbara Johnson of Dayton, TN; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurlie and Hattie Hale; and three brothers, Gurlie Hale Jr., Clayton E. Hale and Clifford E. Hale.
Pallbearers were Clayton Hale, Timmy Odom, Tommy Gunter, Mark McDaniel, David Tedder and Junior Gunter.

MARGIE KERLEY
Margie Kerley, 83, of the Linary community, passed away Sept. 28, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 30 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Steve Watts and Tim Watts officiated.
Mrs. Kerley was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Cumberland County.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Winfred Ryan of Franklin, TN, and Willen Brown of Crossville; son, Harold Kerley of Crossville; sisters, Bernice Houston and Josephine Davis, both of Crossville; brother, Cecil Hale of Florida; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Kerley; and a son, Hershal Kerley.
Pallbearers were Rick Houston, Richard Kerley, Clarence Houston, Odis Kerley, Richard Stepp and Tim Kerley.

HELEN SALMA McDURMON
Helen Salma McDurmon, 71, of Tansi, passed away Sept. 27, 2000, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 29 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Indianfield Township Cemetery in Caro, MI. Jack Irwin officiated.
Mrs. McDurmon was born May 28, 1929, in Flint, MI, the daughter of Lewis and Laura Raishe Carpenter.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, William McDurmon; son, David Ackerman of Flint; daughter, Carol Isenhart of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Fred Hoffman of Crossville and Mary Sue and Kurt Hemingway of Culleoka, TN; daughter-in-law, Sherry Ross; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Ted Luft of Vasser, MI; grandchildren, Nikki and Don Dutcher, Robin Archer, Dustin and Jacob Hemingway, Roby Paris, Coby and Tia Ackerman, Christa Mattis, Rachel Ackerman, Eva Marie Isenhart and Seth Ackerman; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis Eugene Carpentier; and two sisters, Rose Musgraves and Jeanette Berry.

WILLIAM MOORE
William "Bill" Moore, 46, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 25, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 28 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Brandstetter Cemetery. The Rev. Cecil McFarland officiated.
Mr. Moore was born Oct. 27, 1953, in Pontiac, MI, the son of Holbert Sylvester and Sybil Moore.
He was a machine operator at Avery Dennison, and a veteran of the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Moore of Crossville; mother, Sybil Moore of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Phil Broome of Michigan; and brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Kathleen Moore of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Holbert Sylvester Moore; and a brother, Don Moore.

AMANDA PAIGE HAVEN PROVENS
Amanda Paige Haven Provens, 23, formerly of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Sept. 22, 2000, in Ansbach, Germany. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 30 at the Fort Detrick Chapel in Fredericks, MD, with interment in Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, OH.
Mrs. Provens is a native of Kaiserslautern, Germany, the daughter of Herschel K. Jr. and Marsha Hanna Haven.
She attended Chattanooga State Technical College and was an employee of Mount Vernon Restaurant. She was a member of Ansbach Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jason Allen Provens of Columbus, OH; parents, Herschel K. Jr. and Marsha Hanna Haven; sisters, Audra Haven Knott of Hagerstown, MD, and Valerie Wisotzkey of Fairplay, MD; maternal grandmother, Joan Hanna of Crossville; and paternal grandmother, Bernice Castleberry of Soddy-Daisy, TN.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Austin Provens; and grandfathers, Marshall Hanna and Herschel K. Haven Sr.
