Samuel Henry Bryant, 73, of
Crossville, passed away May 20, 2000. Funeral services were conducted
May 22 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in
Crossville City Cemetery. David Rowan and Nick Ball officiated.
Mr. Bryant was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Cumberland County, the
son of George and Maggie Gist Bryant.
He was a retired construction equipment operator with TVA, and
he served with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Bryant of Crossville; sons,
Gary Bryant and Sammy Bryant, both of Crossville; sisters, Ruth
Allen and Geneva Hajny, both of Crossville, and Opal Stringer
of Cookeville, TN; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joey Bryant, Lane Madewell, Fred Wilson, Don
Buckner, Freddie Stringer and Steve Pugh.

Calvin Verlin Edmonds, 57, of
Sparta, TN, passed away May 19, 2000. Funeral services were conducted
May 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in
Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Jack Chadwell officiated, with
special music by the Church of Christ Singers.
Mr. Edmonds was born May 21, 1942, in Cumberland County, the
son of Jerry B. Edmonds Sr. and Glendon Stewman Edmonds.
He was an employee of Crossville Rubber Co., and he was a member
of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Janette Crawford Edmonds; son, Calvin
Glenn Edmonds of Nashville, TN; daughters, Jan Lowe, Jerri Crawford,
Janie Thomas and Jena Edmonds, all of Crossville; parents, Glendon
and Jerry Edmonds Sr. of Crossville; sisters, Mary Ruth Braddock
of Crossville and Fay Nelson of Versailles, KY; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Baxter Edmonds
Jr.

Ruth Hewitt, 89, of Pleasant
Hill, passed away May 21, 2000, at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant
Hill.
Ms. Hewitt was born Aug. 6, 1910, in Lamont, IL. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol White of Fairfield Glade;
son and daughter-in-law, James and Linda Hewitt of Fairfield
Glade; sister, Lillian Vedok of Indiana; seven grandchildren;
and 14 great-grandchildren.

LECIL SMITH
Lecil Smith, 92, of Crossville,
passed away May 19, 2000. Funeral services were conducted May
21 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Green
Acres Memory Gardens. Carson Whittaker and Delmar McCowen officiated.
Mr. Smith was born May 17, 1908, in Fentress County, the son
of Marion B. and Tennie Cravens Smith.
He was a retired truck driver, and was a member of Crossville
First Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lela Whittenburg Smith; daughters,
Carolyn Smith and June Howard, both of Crossville; son, L.E.
"Butch" Smith of Crossville; brother, Cecil Smith of
High Point, NC; half-brothers, James Disney of Knoxville, TN,
and Doug Smith of Georgia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Tennie Smith.

Robert Roland Dunlap, 68, of
Nashville, TN, passed away May 15, 2000, in the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services were conducted May 17
from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bowden
Cemetery. Bro. Hank Jones officiated.
Mr. Dunlap was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Easton, PA, the son of
William and Anna Heath Dunlap.
He was a heating and air contractor, and he served in the U.S.
Army during the Korean War. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Davis Dunlap of Nashville;
daughters and sons-in-law, Susie and Ralph Morgan of Crossville,
Rita and Donnie Sullivan of Knoxville, TN, and Marilyn Sooy,
Teresa Smith and Tammie Wyatt, all of Nashville; mother-in-law,
Rissie Davis of Crossville; five grandchildren, Adam, Audrey
and Erik Sullivan, Matthew Morgan and Miranda Sooy; and two great-grandchildren,
Ashley Sooy and Taylor Sullivan.

Henry Carl Jones, 70, of Crossville,
passed away May 12, 2000, in WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Funeral services were conducted May 15 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Bowen officiating.
Graveside committal was held May 16 at the Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Harriman, TN, the son of
Claude Henry and Rose Smith Jones.
He was a painter and maintenance worker at Cumberland Medical
Center, and he was a member of the Church of Christ. He served
in the U.S. Army, B Airborne in 1948, and during the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Henry and Rosemary Wieland,
both of Crossville; three sons, Johnny Jones, Billy Jones and
Jackie Jones, all of Crossville; brother, Arlo Lester Jones of
Cincinnati, OH; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Rose Jones;
his wife, Billie Jo Hodge Jones; and a brother, Edward Jones.
Pallbearers were Joe Hall, Delane Sidwell, Carl Scott, Vic Music,
Kenny Reese and Danny Parks.

Jimmy A. Kilby, 35, of Ten Mile,
TN, passed away May 16, 2000, at home. A memorial service will
be conducted tonight at 7 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Karin Kilby, a son, Justin Joseph
Kilby, and two daughters, Jamie and Juilee Kilby, all of Ten

Esther J. Sandusky, 71, of Buford,
GA, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 13, 2000, at
Haven House Hospice in Atlanta, GA.
Mrs. Sandusky was born July 20, 1928, in Cincinnati, OH, the
daughter of George and Clara Jones.
She lived in Richmond, IN, for over 40 years, and retired from
Belden in Richmond in 1985. She later lived in Fairfield Glade,
and most recently in Buford, GA.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James E. Sandusky
of Buford; two daughters, Nila Joy Crawford of Sugar Grove, IL,
and Nadia Weber of Gainesville, GA; two brothers, Dr. George
Jones Jr. of College Park, MD, and Dr. William Buford Jones of
Durham, NC; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The National Cremation Society Memorial Center in Lilburn, GA,

Eula Brown, 68, of Crossville,
passed away May 12, 2000, at home. Funeral services were conducted
May 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in
Bethlehem Cemetery in Overton County. The Rev. Mike Garrett officiated.
Mrs. Brown was born May 12, 1932, in Cumberland County, the daughter
of Dan and Lydia Kerley Hayes.
She was a store clerk and a member of Meridian Baptist Church.

daughters, Jo Ann Thurman of Crossville and Patty Morgan of Las
Vegas, NV; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Gretchen Thurman

Sylvester Keyes, 69, of Crossville,

Mr. Keyes was born on March 12, 1931, in Cumberland County. He
was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Roxie Keyes of Crossville; sons,

brothers, Tommy Keyes and Charles Keyes, both of Clarkrange,
TN, Donald Keyes, Bobby Keyes and Carlas Keyes, all of Chattanooga,

of Clarkrange; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Iven Keyes; and two

George Henry Eckert, 83, of
Leesburg, FL, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 11,
2000.
Mr. Eckert was a native of Kokomo, IN, and had moved from Fairfield
Glade to Leesburg in 1975.
He was employed as a job setter for Chrysler Transmission for
37 years, and had served in the Merchant Marines in World War
II. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge No. 179 in Kokomo.
He was also an avid sports fan and a Wildcat Booster.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Eckert of Leesburg; son, Bill
Eckert of Fairfield, OH; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lawson, 74, of Crossville, passed away May 8, 2000, in Cumberland

Mrs. Lawson was born on May 28, 1925, in Soddy-Daisy, TN, the
daughter of Mack and Hazel Tinch Sims.

sons, Frank M. Lawson Jr. of Athens, TN, and James Henry Lawson

father, Mack Sims.

was a restaurant manager.

Martin Henry Wyatt, 96, of Cleves,
OH, passed away May 13, 2000. Funeral services will be conducted
today at 1 p.m. at the Neidhard-Minges Funeral Home in Taylors
Creek, OH, with burial in Arlington Memorial Gardens in Mt. Healthy,
OH.
Mr. Wyatt was born on June 12, 1903, in Isoline, Cumberland County,
TN, the son of Daniel and Margaret Emiline Woody Wyatt.
He was a master pipefitter with Local No. 392 for 55 years.
Survivors include his son, James Wyatt of Cleves, OH; sister,
Lillian Henry of Crossville; sister-in-law, Louise Wyatt of Crossville;
seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Harriet Sorter
Wyatt; a son, Daniel Wyatt; and a daughter, Nora Rich.

Mrs. Henry was born on Dec. 7, 1902, in Bledsoe County, TN, the
daughter of Isaac Easterly and Sallie Greer Hoge.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist
Church, and attended Homestead United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Carlos Greer Henry of Tomball, TX;
sisters, Rachel Overall of Tucson, AZ, and Bernice Huddleston
of Etoway, TN; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Nelson Page Henry, and a
daughter, Sarah Jeanelle Hembree.

Ms. Hensley was born on Sept. 27, 1918, in Cumberland County.

Rimmer, 22, of Crossville, passed away May 5, 2000. Graveside

Ms. Rimmer was born on Jan. 4, 1978, in Cumberland County, the
daughter of Jerry Rimmer and Brenda Smith Rimmer.
She was a student at Tennessee Technological University, and
she was of the Methodist faith.

Jerry Rimmer, both of Crossville; sisters, Sonya Rimmer of Crossville
and Mary Ann Williams of Sparta, TN; brother, Mike Rimmer of

Mr. Baker was born on July 9, 1932, in Jellico, TN, the son of
Ossie and Vena Miller Baker.
He was a self-employed social worker. He served in the U.S. Air
Force during the Korean War.

Ford, 51, of James Island, SC, passed away May 7, 2000. Funeral

Mr. Ford was born on Oct. 31, 1948, in Sumter, SC, the son of
William G. Ford and Thelma Denton Ford Peterson.
He was a retired president of Atlantic Inc. Pest Management.
He was a charter member of Epworth United Methodist Church of
James Island. He was a graduate of James Island High School,
and attended North Carolina State University.
He was a member and past president of the South Carolina Pest
Control Association; member of the South Carolina Pest Control
Association Hall of Fame; and a member and past member, board
of directors, of the National Pest Control Association. He was
a charter member of the James Island Salt Water Sports Club,
and a past member of the Executive Association of Greater Charleston.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Harbert Ford of James Island;
his mother, Thelma Denton Ford Peterson of Fairfield Glade; son,
J. Parker Ford of James Island; daughter, L. Maegan Ford of James
Island; brothers, the Rev. Julian R. Ford of Easley, SC, and

THOMAS J. SUGGS
Thomas J. Suggs, 73, of the
Vandever community, passed away April 15, 2000, at home. Funeral
services were conducted on April 18, from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home, with burial in Lantana Cemetery. Bros. Archie Howard
and Gary Howard officiated.
Mr. Suggs was born on Sept. 13, 1926, in the Vandever community,
the son of Doss H. and Lula W. Burgess Suggs.
He was a carpenter and welder by trade, and was a U.S. Army Veteran
of Foreign Wars. He was a faithful church member and a good neighbor.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Amy
Suggs and Alvin and Vickie Suggs, all of Crossville; son, Stephen
Eugene Suggs of Mexico; sisters, Ruth Ann Hamilton and Ruby N.
Kerley, both of Crossville, and Betty Jewell Wesley of Bowie,
MD; and two grandchildren, Cody and Brett Suggs, both of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Robbins Suggs;
his parents, Doss H. and Lula W. Burgess Suggs. His brother,
Cpl. Richard L. Suggs, a pilot, was declared missing in action
in 1950, and his fate remains unknown.

Buck, Jamie Buck and Larry Burgess.

Mrs. Whitehead was born on Oct. 19, 1898, in Putnam County, TN,
the daughter of the late John and Margaret Rice.

W.M. "Bill" Duvall,
of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 3, 2000. No services are

Mr. Duvall was born on Nov. 29, 1926, in Alton, IL, the son of
Wilmer and Sophia Duvall.
He graduated with high honors from the University of Illinois
with a degree in chemical engineering, and was employed by Amoco
Oil in Naperville, IL. While in Naperville, he served as a director
of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce. He became involved with
Junior Achievement, serving as manager of the Texas City, TX,
Junior Achievement Center. Before he retired, he was manager
of research and services at Amoco Oil's Naperville Research Center.
He retired from Amoco in 1989 and moved from Naperville to Fairfield
Glade in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Duvall; and his brother, Elbert
Duvall of Bradenton, FL.

Jeffrey B. Merrill, 43, of Crossville,
passed away May 2, 2000, in the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in
Cleveland, OH. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
May 6, at the Blackburn Funeral Home in Grafton, OH, with Pastor
Ray Carpenter of Faith Baptist Temple in North Ridgeville, OH,
officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria,
OH.

Home.
Mr. Merrill was born on March 13, 1957, in Elyria, and lived
in Lorain County, OH, most of his life, before moving to Crossville
in 1986.
He was formerly employed with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department
as a corrections officer, and most recently worked for LBJ&C
as a bus driver. He attended Meridian Baptist Church in Crossville.
He enjoyed children, drawing, reading and science fiction.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Patricia Merrill; one
daughter, Melinda Merrill of Crossville; his mother, Faye Merrill
of Elyria; and a half-sister, Betty Edwards of Evensville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Merrill; and grandmother,
Pearlie Baker.

Grady Eugene Mullinax, 71, of
Crab Orchard, passed away April 28, 2000, in Cumberland Medical

Mr. Mullinax was born on Oct. 24, 1928, in Cumberland County,
the son of Franklin McDow and Vada Pennycuff Mullinax.
He was a stone cutter, and had served in the U.S. Army during
the Korean War.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruby Hassler, Illine Rose and
Dixie Hood, all of Crab Orchard; and five brothers, Kenneth Mullinax
and Steve Mullinax, both of Crossville, John Ed Mullinax and
Clyde Mullinax, both of Crab Orchard, and Billy Joe Mullinax,
of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Norris was born on Feb. 25, 1940, in Cumberland County, the

Ruth Barker Payne Turner, 87,

Mrs. Turner was born Nov. 19, 1912.
She was a member of Disciples of Christ in Crossville, and a
longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She served
as a board member and past member of the Cumberland County Election
Commission, the Democrat Party and the Business and Professional
Women's Club; and she was memorials chairman of the American
Cancer Society for many years. She was advertising editor for
the Cumberland County Times for seven years, and was a
member of the Cumberland County Fair Association and the D.A.R.

and son-in-law, Teri Lyn and Doug Viereck of Magnolia, TX; brother

Miss Mitchell was a native of Birmingham, AL, and grew up in
Atlanta, GA. She was the daughter of the late William Edward
and Emma Brown Mitchell.
She graduated from Alabama College for Women and received her
master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in
New York. Upon returning to Atlanta, she became a member of the
Agnes Scott College faculty, remaining there for six years.
In 1947, Miss Mitchell became the owner and director of Camp
Nakanawa for Girls in Mayland. She remained director until she
retired in 1981, when she moved to Pleasant Hill.
Survivors include her brother, Cameron, and 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Duncan and
Graham.

ANN CUNNINGHAM MONTGOMERY
Ann Cunningham Montgomery, of
Nashville, TN, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 30,
2000. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May
3, at First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, with Dr. Thomas
Tyndall and Dr. Arch MacNair officiating. Interment will be May
4 at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.
Survivors include her husband, Bryant S. Montgomery of Nashville;
daughters, Dr. Marcia Montgomery of Nashville and Karen Montgomery
Atchley of Knoxville; sons, Dr. Michael Bryant Montgomery of
Columbia, SC, and David Montgomery of Moscow, Russia; grandchildren,
Rachel Atchley, Marcus Atchley and Julia Atchley, all of Knoxville;
and nephew, Arthur Cunningham III of Florence, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made
to the Billy Graham Nashville Crusade.

ALLINE RANDOLPH
Alline Randolph, 80, of Monterey,
TN, passed away April 27, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical
Center. Funeral services were conducted April 29 from the chapel
of Goff Funeral Home, with interment in Welch Memorial Cemetery.
The Rev. Mark Hamaker officiated.
Mrs. Randolph was born on Nov. 7, 1919, in Monterey, the daughter
of the late Virgil and Mary Allen Matheney.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five daughters, Brenda Foster and Bridget Daniels,
both of Nashville, TN, Barbara Atkins of Smyrna, TN, Beverly
Templeton of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Betina Durham of Monterey; six
sons, Bobby Randolph and Bill Randolph, both of Nashville, Barry
Randolph and Bruce Randolph, both of Mt. Juliet, Benny Randolph
of Lebanon, TN, and Boris Randolph of Monterey; sisters, Edith
Walker of Monterey, Bea Barker, Chec Harris and Wanda Dyer, all
of Crossville; brother, Leroy Matheney of Monterey; 17 grandchildren;
and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Randolph; and two
grandchildren, Brent and Belinda.
Goff Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
RAYMOND RAYMOND SHADDEN
Thomas Raymond Shadden, 80,
of Crossville, passed away April 22, 2000. A Celebration of Life
was conducted April 25 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home,
with graveside services at Crossville City Cemetery. Mr. Shadden's
longtime friend, the Rev. Russell Honeycutt, officiated.
Mr. Shadden was born on Jan. 17, 1920, in Morgan County, the
son of Thomas and Minnie Ruth Powell Shadden.
He was the founder of Shadden Tire Company, and was a World War
II veteran. He had also served in the Tennessee General Assembly
for several years as a state representative and state senator,
and he had also served as mayor of Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hale Shadden of Crossville;
four daughters, Vickie Burgess, Pat Elmore, Jo Bolin and Minnie
Hunter, all of Crossville; two sons, Tom Shadden and Wayne Shadden,
both of Crossville; sisters, June Davis and Wilda Daniels, both
of Wartburg; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Archie Howard, Jerry Eller, Wade England. Tony
Hall, Ronnie Tipton, Richard Pugh, Tommy Waltman and Mike Dalton.
Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Shadden Tire Company.
The family requests that memorials be made to Kids Inc. and the
Vocational Technology Scholarship Fund.

LOUISE ROY SMITH
Louise Roy Smith, 84, of Smithville,
TN, passed away April 30, 2000, in Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant
Hill. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at First
Baptist Church in Smithville, with Bro. Bill Palmiter officiating.
Interment will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today at the church from 12:30 p.m. until
time of service.
Mrs. Smith had been a selective service clerk, and she was a
member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Ann Smith
of Crossville; sisters, Carnell Hyde of Smithville and Ophalia
Foutch of Chattanooga, TN; grandson, Tim Smith of Lebanon, TN;
granddaughter, Jenny Smith of Crossville; and three great-grandchildren,
Amanda, Ben and Sam Smith, all of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.F. and Myrtle Keaton
Roy; brothers, Grant Roy, J.L. Roy and Charlie Roy; and sister,
