BOND
Funeral services for Robert "Bob" R. Bond, 73, of Crossville,
who passed away Feb. 11, 2000, were held Feb. 13 from the chapel
of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Bros. Billy Smith and Brian Smith officiated.
He was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Richmond, KY, the son of Charles
and Nellie Wilson Bond.
Mr. Bond was retired from the military, having served in the
U.S. Navy during World War II, and the U.S. Army during the Korean
and Vietnam wars. He was a charter member of Liberty Baptist
Church, and he was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Christine "Chris" Tabor
Bond of Crossville; daughter, Anita Smith of Crossville; sons,
Randy Bond of Crossville, and Steve Bond of Beaufort, SC; 12
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Margaret Pugh of
Crossville; and brothers, Harold Bond of Oklahoma, Edwin Bond
of Ohio and John Bond and David Bond, both of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Bill and Wilson
Bond.

The Rev. William H. "Bill" Davenport, 75, of Riverside,
OH, passed away on Feb. 23, 2000. Funeral services were held
Feb. 26 at Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton, OH, with burial at
Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton. Pastor Dale Bolen officiated.
The Rev. Davenport was born on Oct. 31, 1924 in Crossville, the
son of General and Winnie Davenport.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II, and
he retired from Chrysler. He was a member of General Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lena (Garrett) Davenport;
daughter, Judy Rose; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald
Pollard; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Keith and Kathy Davenport;
sister and brother-in-law, Thalma and Oral Smith; sister and
brother-in-law, Jean and Kenny Gunter; sister and brother-in-law,
Lucy and Mel Tharp; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Rilley
Van Dorl; sister and brother-in-law, Hazell and Alvin Shirrll;
brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Mae Davenport; brother
and sister-in-law, Cordell and Caroline Davenport; six grandchildren;

Lester Hayes, 81, of Monterey, passed away Feb. 26, 2000 at Cookeville
Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Feb.
28 from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry
Purser officiating.
Mr. Hayes was born on Feb. 10, 1919 in Crossville, the son of
the late Charles B. Hayes Sr. and Martha Rose Haley Hayes.
He was retired from Martin-Marietta in Oak Ridge as a chemical
operator. He was a member of the Baptist faith, and he was a
member of Monterey Lodge No. 751 F&AM, and the Knoxville
Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife of over 41 years, Lessie Matheney
Hayes; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Philip and Lisa Hayes
of White House, TN; two grandchildren, Megan Hayes of White House,
and Michael Julian Mayer, of Knoxville, TN; and a special niece,
Vicki Henley of Monterey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. Hayes Sr.
and Martha Rose Haley Hayes; and by his brother, Charles B. Hayes
Jr.

Roscoe Miller, 85, of Cookeville, TN, passed away Feb. 24, 2000
at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were
held Feb. 26 from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home, with burial
at West Cemetery in Cookeville. The Revs. Mike Madden, Donald
Widener and Dennie Moore officiated.
Mr. Miller was born on Oct. 15, 1914 in Putnam County, TN, the
son of William Carlen and Caroline (Bohannon) Miller.
He was a self-employed businessman; he operated Miller's Grocery,
Lions Station at Stevens and Jefferson, and Phillips 66 at 10th
and Washington. He was a member of Brindley's Chapel Church of
God.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Miller of Cookeville; son
and daughter-in-law, Donald and Judy Miller of Brandon, FL; son
and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diane Miller of Kettering, OH;
son and daughter-in-law, Roscoe J. Jr. and Teresa Miller of Cookeville;
daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Phillip Lafever of Cookeville;
daughter, Barbara and Hollis Davis Baker of Crossville; daughter
and son-in-law Carolina and Mark Smith of Cookeville; sister,
Ila Rittenberry of Cookeville; special nephew and his wife, Tim

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Carlen and Caroline

Laura Bell Morgan, 72, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 22, 2000
in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted
Feb. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial
in Hyder Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Schwarz and Dr. James Lee officiated.
Mrs. Morgan was born Sept. 28, 1927 in Dunlap, TN, the daughter
of Jesse and Nannie Pollard Brown.
She was a restaurant owner, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley June Ellis of Fort Lauderdale,
FL; two sons, Jessie Eugene Morgan of Star City, AR, and Johnny
Lawson Morgan of Nashville, TN; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and sister, Venna Hood of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Morgan; son,
Billy Morgan; two sisters, Charlene Frady and Willie Morgan;
and a brother, Earl Brown.

BEAULAH SCATES
Beaulah Ledbetter Scates, 91, of Monterey, TN, formerly of the
Crawford community, passed away Feb. 24, 2000 at Livingston Regional
Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 27 from the chapel
of Goff Funeral Home, with interment in the Honey Springs Cemetery
near Crawford. Bro. Glen Goggins officiated.
Mrs. Scates was born on Alpine Mountain Feb. 2, 1909 to the late
Charlie Ledbetter and Nancy Jane Gunnels Ledbetter.
She was of the Christian faith and for many years assisted bereaved,
sick and helpless families in the mountain communities of Crawford,
Twin, Hanging Limb and Vines Ridge, giving of her time, energy
and faith to those who were in time of need.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Moody
Chancellor of Texas, Dorothy and Raymond Miller of Rickman, and
Linda and Donnie Isabell of Monterey; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren;
a precious group of nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and
two special sisters-in-law, Mrs. Francis Medlock and Christine
O'Brien, both of Knoxville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Nancy Jane
Gunnels Ledbetter; her husband, Walter Allen Scates; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Mildred Scates Payton Chancellor and Harry Payton
and Mary Pearle Seale and James Seale; one son, Bobby Scates;
and one granddaughter, Martha Payton Wilsford.

Elkanah Turner, 74, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Crossville, passed
away Feb. 25, 2000 in Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services
will be conducted at 1 p.m. March 2 from the chapel of Bilbrey
Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery. Pastor Wayne Monroe
will officiate. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Turner was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Crossville, the son of David
Crockett Turner and Mattie Mae Farris Turner.
He was a moulder for Dayton Casting Co., retiring after 32 years,
and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Steven
and Barbara Turner of Dayton, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Janice
and Kenneth Cordell of Dayton; grandaughter Kimberly Lynn and
husband Jason Jewett of Dayton; step-great-grandchild, Aaron
Michael Jewett of Dayton; brother, Delmus Turner of Rockwood,
TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and special
friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Early Turner, and

Clifford L. White, 82, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 23, 2000.
Funeral services were held Feb. 26 from the chapel of Crossville
Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Campground Cemetery in
Fentress County. Pastors Loren Vistaunet and Joe Breyer officiated.
Mr. White was born on Aug. 14, 1917 in Fentress County, TN.
He was retired from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and he
was a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Grace M. White of Crossville; sons,
Harold White of Iowa, Gary White of Oklahoma, and Dr. Tom White
of North Carolina; sisters, Reba Holmes of Crossville, and Clella
Garrett of Clarkrange, TN; brothers, Clyde White of Ohio, and
Dempsey White of Crossville; six grandchildren; and several nieces

Hazel Williams, 71, of the Bakers Crossroad community, passed
away Feb. 24, 2000 at the Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral

and Rev. A.J. Alderman will officiate.
Mrs. Williams was born Dec. 28, 1928 in Putnam County, TN, the
daughter of the late Henry and Callie Stafford.
She was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.

Williams of Mayland; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Brenda

Irma Jane Wyatt, 64, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 24, 2000
at Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were held Saturday

Mrs. Wyatt was born Jan. 4, 1936 in Crossville, the daughter
of Ezra and Effie (Croft) Burgess.
She was a housewife, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband of almost 39 years, Hershell Theodore
Wyatt of Crossville; two sons, Danny Burgess of Jasper, GA, and
Ross Wyatt of Ranger, GA; two daughters, Lynn Bolin and Carrie

and Oma Hubbard of Crossville; one brother, Wilkie Burgess of

Fannie Brady, 77, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 14, 2000 in

Noel D. Clark Sr., 76, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 10, 2000.
Funeral services were held Feb. 12 from the chapel of Burris
Funeral Home.
He was born April 12, 1923 in Yale, IL, the son of Ralph and
Thelma Cummings Clark. The Rev. Vern Daugherty officiated.
Mr. Clark was an attorney in Crossville from 1982 to 2000. He
was a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners. He
was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Teddie Clark of Crossville; daughter,
Marjorie Bandiero of North Carolina; sons, Noel D. Clark Jr.
of Fort Myers, FL, Johnny Clark of North Carolina; stepdaughters,

Mr. Davis was born Dec. 22, 1974 in Cumberland County, the son

Randall Hue Fields, 36, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 14, 2000.
Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at Burris Funeral Home, with

Mr. Fields was born March 10, 1963 in Crossville, the son of
Willis and Margaret Turner Fields.
He did the maintenance for Stone Elementary School.

Fields, both of Crossville; sisters Teresa Hall of Sparta, and

Rachel Bunch Patrick, 49, of Crossville, formerly of Petros,
TN, passed away Feb. 18, 2000 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga,
TN. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 19 at Schubert
Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Daugherty officiating. A graveside
service was held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Anderson Memorial
Garden.
Mrs. Patrick was a member of the Petros United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, O.W. Pat Patrick of Crossville;
son, Michael Patrick of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law,
Lisa and Shannon Brown of Crossville; granddaughters Savannah

RANDOLPH
Billy Roy "Bill" Randolph, 71, of Monterey, passed
away Feb. 19, 2000 at the Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with burial to follow in
the Welch Memorial Cemetery. Elder Allen Grindstaff will officiate.
Mr. Randolph was born Nov. 9, 1928 in Fentress County, to the
late James "Jim" and Ruth Beene Randolph.
Mr. Randolph started working as a coal miner at the age of 14.
He worked at the Clinchfield Mines in Monterey as a motorman
and later as foreman until his retirement. He was a member of
the UMWA and the Monterey Masonic Lodge No. 751.
Survivors include his wife of over 44 years, Delma Garrison Randolph
of Monterey; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Paul Jones of
Monterey; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Randy Way, of
Monterey; daughter Angie Cloyd, of Monterey; son Billy Roy Randolph
Jr. of Monterey; grandchildren, Tabitha Childress, Messena Elliott,
Majesta Pierce, Max Jones, Logan and Parker Randolph, Aubree

Eloch Richard Stone, 78, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 10,
2000 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. Funeral services

with special music by Gene and Teresa Burgess and Charlie Brown.
Mr. Stone was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Cumberland County, the son
of Sam and Hallie Wyatt Stone. Mr. Stone was a Laborer of Franklin
Limestone Co.
Survivors include three sisters, Lillie Louella Underwood of
Sparta, TN; Thelma Ruth Eller, of Clinton, TN; Lima Brown of
Crossville; one brother, Hubert Stone of Crossville; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Kilby Stone.

June Rose Dickerson, 77, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 22,
2000. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at St. Francis

Mrs. Dickerson was born July 7, 1922 in Benton Harbor, MI, the
daughter of Willis and Rose Miller Krause.
She was a homemaker, and she attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church.
Survivors include sons, David (Lucille) Dickerson of Crown Point,
IN, Thomas (Linda) Dickerson of Aurora, OH, George (Karen) Dickerson

Hugh D. Pruitt, 76, of Rockwood, TN, passed away Feb. 21, 2000
in Roane Medical Center in Harriman, TN. Funeral services will
be conducted this evening at 8 p.m. from the chapel of Evans
Mortuary in Rockwood, with Rev. Charles Kelley officiating. Burial
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Roane Memorial Gardens, with full
military honors by the Roane Volunteer Honor Guard.
Mr. Pruitt was of the Methodist faith, and he was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II, a Boy Scout Master, a member of Sigma
Ki, a real estate broker for 20 years and a member of Crab Orchard
VFW.
Survivors include his wife Nannie Pruitt, and his son David Pruitt,
both of Rockwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Thomas and Maude
Dulaney Pruitt; his brother, David S. Pruitt; and his son, Scott
Loring Pruitt.

GLENN A. DAVIS
Glenn A. Davis, 44, of Huron Township, MI, passed away Feb. 13,
2000 in his home. Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at Arthur
Bobcean Funeral Home in Flat Rock, MI, with burial in Michigan
Memorial Park in Huron Township. The Rev. Richard Locklear, pastor
of Woodhaven Free Will Baptist Church in Woodhaven, MI, officiated.
Mr. Davis was born on July 4, 1955 in Romulus, MI, the son of
Kenneth and Marion Lee (Atchley) Davis.
He worked as a machine operator at Steeletech in Belleville,
MI.
Survivors include his parents of Belleville; a sister, Susan
Lynn Lange of Milan, MI; and two grandparents, Ted Davis of Crossville
and Earlene Atchley of Belleville.
He was preceded in death by a brother.

GEORGE W. FISLAR
George W. Fislar, 75, formerly of Chattanooga, TN, passed away
Feb. 17, 2000 in Virginia Beach, VA. Funeral services were conducted
Feb. 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial
in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Brother Jim Kelley officiated.
Mr. Fislar was born in Greenwood, IN, and grew up in Charlotte,
NC. He retired from Mueller Corp. of Chattanooga as a supervisor
in 1989. A former president of the American Foundrymen's Union,
he was employed by Buffalo Pipe for 30 years. Active in the community,
he was the president of the Ken-Ton Athletic Association and
a coach for the Erie County Championship Challenger girls' softball
team. A World War II veteran, he was a technical sergeant enlisted
from 1942-Õ46. After being discharged, Mr. Fislar served
in the U.S. Reserves, where he earned the rank of sergeant first
class. He attended Cornell University where he studied metallurgy.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Edna Florence Dixon Fislar,
formerly of Chattanooga; daughter Susan M. Harris of Crossville;
daughter and son-in-law Barbara J. and Peter Schiffler of Virginia
Beach; son and daughter-in-law George A. and LaVern Fislar of
Palmetto, FL; daughter and son-in-law Patricia A. and Douglas
Smith of Virginia Beach; eight grandsons; three granddaughters
and a great-grandson.
Pallbearers were grandsons Phillip Hurst, Jonathan Schiffler,
Matthew Schiffler, Greg Harris, Peter Schiffler and Doug Smith.

RONNIE GARRETT
Ronnie Garrett, 55, of the Vines Ridge Community, passed away
Feb. 21, 2000 at the Cookeville Medical Center. Funeral services
were conducted today from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with
burial to follow in the Phillips Cemetery in Hanging Limb. Rev.
Ovel Tinch will officiate.
Mr. Garrett was born Sept. 2, 1944 in Vines Ridge, TN, the son
of the late Victor Garrett and Daisy Hargis Garrett.
He was an automotive body repairman.
Survivors include his mother, Daisy Hargis Garrett of the Vines
Ridge community; his wife, Mary Allred Garrett of Vines Ridge;
one son, Chad Garrett of Vines Ridge; two aunts, Agnes Miller
and Beatrice Barnes, both of Vines Ridge; one uncle, Thelbert
Garrett of Hanging Limb, TN; sisters-in-law, Judy Stedam of Rinnie,
Betty Evans of Augusta, GA, and Sibbie Barnes of Rockwood, TN;
and brothers-in-law, Gratis Irvine of Rinnie, and Jim, Tom, Clayton
and Lonnie Allred of Clarkrange, TN.
Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his father, Victor Garrett,
sister-in-law Wilma Hines and brother-in-law Johnny Allred.

STANLEY GRUNDON
Stanley Earl Grundon, 70, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 18,
2000 in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted
Feb. 21 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with burial in Crossville
City Cemetery. Father Patrick Brownell officiated.
Mr. Grundon was born Dec. 12, 1929 in St. Clair County, IL, the
son of Carl and Leta Corson Grundon. He was retired from the
military, having served 23 years in the U.S. Army, attaining
the rank of master sergeant. He served in the Korean War and
was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Grundon was a member of
St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Woodrum Grundon of Crossville;
four daughters, Mary Sanders and Peggy Grundon, both of Nashville,
TN, Anne Grundon of Bristol, VA, and Elizabeth Grundon of Crossville;
one son, William Grundon of Crossville; two grandchildren, Alice
and Jack Sanders; two sisters, Martha Grundon of Euless, TX,
and Gwen Coleman of Sherman, TX; and three brothers, Donald Grundon
and Harold Grundon, both of Centralia, IL, and Charles Grundon
of Derby, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Leta Grundon;
one sister, Doris Grundon; and one brother, Carl Grundon Jr.

John Lee King, 57, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 16, 2000 at
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN. Funeral services were
held Feb. 19 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial
at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pastor Gary Hargis officiated.
Mr. King was born on March 17, 1942 in Sterns, KY. He was a laborer.
Survivors include his son, John King Jr. of Whitley City, KY;
four brothers, Dester King of Whitley City, Paul King of Springport,
IN, Christopher King Jr. of Winfield, TN, and Robert King of
Crossville; four sisters, Maudie Whited of Muncie, IN, Mary Lou
Parsons, Zora Everett and Carol Patton, all of Crossville; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewitt King and Estel
King.

Helen Louise Lane, 79, of Crab Orchard, TN, passed away Feb.
17, 2000 in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were

burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. Bros. R.C. Maples and Noble
Wright officiated.
Mrs. Lane was born Aug. 4, 1920 in Cumberland County, the daughter
of Charley and Bertha Holloway Sherrill.
She was a homemaker and folklore weathercaster, and she was a
member of Crab Orchard Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, James Jay Lane of Nashville, TN,
Charles Ray Lane and Joe Grant Lane, both of Crab Orchard; daughter,
Melinda Lane Hedgecoth of Crossville; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ward Lane Sr.;
parents, Charley and Bertha Sherrill; two brothers, Floyd Sherrill
and Clifford Sherrill; and four sisters, Dossie Reed, Claudia
Vaughn, Clarice Wallace and Cora Lively.

Harry A. Martin, 90, of Clarkrange, passed away on Feb. 20, 2000
at Fentress County General Hospital in Jamestown. Funeral services
were held Feb. 22 at Clarkrange United Methodist Church, with
burial in Clarkrange Cemetery. Bros. Tom Rascoe, James Young,
Tom McDonald and J.C. Vaughn officiated. Masonic services were
held Monday evening.
Mr. Martin was born on Nov. 10, 1909 in Colterville, TN, the
son of Zack Lee and Mary Effie (Armor) Martin.
He was a retired teacher, and he was a member of Clarkrange United
Methodist Church, Clarkrange Masonic Lodge No. 605 and Mary Chapter
No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star, for over 60 years, holding
offices in all three organizations.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Martha Louise
and Duane Wakefield of Clarkrange; son and daughter-in-law James
H. and Julia Martin of Clarkrange; son and daughter-in-law William
Lee and Janet Martin of Cartersville, GA; granddaughter Harriet
Denise Wright and her husband, David; grandson Anthony Martin
Anderson and his wife, Jill; grandson Angelo Anderson and his
wife, Tina; grandson Timothy Martin and his wife, Michiko; grandchildren,

DR. MARION YOUNG
Dr. Marion Young, 85, died Feb. 11, 2000 at Mariner Health Care
in Nashville, TN. A memorial service was held Feb. 19 at Pilgrim
United Church of Christ in Chattanooga, TN, with the Revs. Arnold
Slater and John Mingus officiating.
Dr. Young was director of the Hamilton County (Chattanooga) Health
Department in the 1960s and early 1970s. He had also practiced
general medicine in South Carolina, his original home, and in
Crossville, at Uplands Medical Center and the Cumberland Clinic,
in the 1940s and 1950s. He later served with the Joint Commission
on the Accreditation of Hospitals, did additional training in
psychiatry, and worked in the field of mental health. He and
his wife, Euphemia Gordon Young, who died in 1995, were charter
members of Common Cause of Tennessee, and he was a member of
Physicians for Social Responsibility and many other organizations.
He grew up in Greenwood, SC, and attended Furman University,
Jefferson Medical College, and the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill, where he received a master's degree in public
health.
Dr. Young is survived by his four children, Ann Young and Peggy
Sullivan of Nashville, Gordon Young of Greenville, SC, and Kathryn
Young Gordon of Gainesville, FL; brother, Ernest Young of Greenwood;
grandchildren Frank and Lily LaBour; sons-in-law James Sullivan
and Andy Miller; daughter-in-law Kaye Young; step-grandchildren
Emma and Julia Sullivan, Brad Cartec and Faye Brooks; and various
cousins, nieces and nephews.

Nancy H. Buckner, 49, of San Martino Place, Orlando, FL, passed
away Feb. 9, 2000.
She was born June 15, 1950, in Crossville. In 1959, she moved
to central Florida.
Mrs. Buckner was a receptionist for American Title Insurance
Company in Orlando, and she was a member of the Church of Christ
in Orlando.
Survivors include her mother, Helen A. Buckner of Orlando; aunt,
Myra Hedgecoth of Crossville; uncle and aunt, Chester and Evelyn

Thelma Cummings Clark.
Mr. Clark was an attorney in Crossville from 1982 to 2000. He

was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

KATHERINE YUDT LANGER
Katherine Yudt Langer, 79, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan.
29, 2000. Born in Crevenka, Hungary (Yugoslavia) on May 25, 1920,
Katherine's career as a missionary nurse was well suited for
her as she constantly personified the role of humanitarian. She
was a member of Seminole Heights Baptist Church in Tampa, FL,
and the German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clearwater, FL, where
a host of close, fond, friends will surely miss her sensational
cooking and baking as will all who sampled from her culinary
expertise.
She graduated from the Baptist Institute in Bryn Mahr, PA, where
she earned her credentials as a registered nurse. Her career
aspiration was to be a missionary to Africa. Her dream was snatched
away from her when she suffered a back injury while caring for
boys in an orphanage in Berlin, Germany after World War II. But
it was there that she met one of the boys' counselors, Paul Langer,
with whom she feel in love and was married to for 46 years until
her death. She earned commendations for her service from the
government for her work at the Berlin Orphanage. Along with Paul,
she brought several foster sons and her parents and siblings
to America with the hope and dream of providing them with a better
life. That dream came to fruition! She continued her nursing
in the operating room of the Evangelical Lutheran Hospital, Brooklyn,
NY, and ended it by providing private nursing care.
She is preceded in death by her cherished father, Franz Yudt;
mother, Magdalena Welker Yudt; step-mother, Elizabeth Yudt; brother
Frank Yudt; sisters, Luise Seiderer, Margaret Yudt and Else Passler
and many wonderful aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving
husband, Paul Langer of Land Of Lakes, FL; devoted daughters,
Audrey Williams of Knoxville, TN, and E. Josette Schlafer of
Fairfield Glade; son-in-law, Dan Schlafer; grandchildren, Ray
Paul Williams, Megan Schlafer Rowe, Danielle Schlafer and Timothy
Daniel Schlafer; sisters, Magdalene Becker, Sofia Lahm and sister-in-law,
Florence Yudt; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends
in America and Germany.
The family received friends Feb. 1 at Rose's Mortuary in Knoxville.
The service was officiated by Pastor Bob Tucker of North Carolina
and Pastor Doug Turner of Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. Interment
was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville. Pallbearers were Ray Paul
Williams, Erhard Koller, Dan Schlafer, Jim McGinnis, Joel Parton
and Bruce Brown.

Funeral services for Florence Smith McKinney Hicks, 86, of Knoxville,

Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Norwood Church of Christ, and
she was a graduate of Mossop School for Girls in Harriman, TN.
She was a former employee of Harriman Hosiery Mill, and Mead
Paper Corporation in Harriman. During World War II, she moved
to Oak Ridge to work at the Y-12 Plant. After the war, she was
employed with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she worked
for 27 years until his retirement.

Funeral services for Mark Ingram, 42, of Cookeville, who passed
away Feb. 14, 2000, were held Feb. 16 from Monterey United Methodist
Church. Dr. Martin Thielen officiated, with burial in Welch Memorial
Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 23, 1957 in Nashville, the son of Clifford Ingram
and Elise McCarroll Ingram.
Mr. Ingram attended the Methodist Church, and he was a graduate
of St. Andrews Preparatory School in Sewanee, TN, and served
with the U.S. Navy. He was a chef at several exclusive restaurant
after serving as an apprentice under a German chef in Jacksonville,
FL, where he worked at the River Club. He was also a sous chef
at Sawgrass Resort in Florida, the Cascades Restaurant at Opryland
Hotel in Nashville, TN, Harrow Road in Rugby, TN, Nick's and
Scarecrow Inn in Cookeville, TN. At the time of his death, he
was a chef with the Martha Ingram Barge Company, with headquarters
in Nashville.
Survivors include his mother, Elise Ingram of Monterey, TN; father
and stepmother, the Rev. Cliff and Shirley Ingram of Crossville;
sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Dan Fagan of Frederick,

The Rev. Leon Archibald Dickinson Jr., 85, of Pleasant Hill,
passed away Jan. 30, 2000. A memorial service will be held 3

He was born March 31, 1914 in New Britain, CT, the son of Leon
A. Dickinson Sr. and Ida LeGere Dickinson.
The Rev. Dickinson was a graduate of the University of Vermont
and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. An ordained
minister of the United Church of Christ, he served in the U.S.
Navy during World War II, and the Korean War as a Navy chaplain.
He retired from active parish work to Uplands Retirement Village
in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Strong Dickinson of Pleasant
Hill; daughter, Marian Anderson of Leominster, MA; sons, Thomas
C. Brown II of Bangor, ME, and John E. Dickinson of Boynton Beach,
FL; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Eunice

Harold A. Kretschmer, 88, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 29,

He was born Nov. 15, 1911 in Detroit, MI.
Mr. Kretschmer was a building superintendent for a department
store in Detroit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

She was born Jan. 4, 1925 in Welland, Ontario, Canada, the daughter
of Ralph M. and Vera Lynburner Gullett.
Mrs. Wanter was a registered nurse, and she was a member of Windover
Hills United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Henry Paul Wanter Jr. of Crossville,
and Christopher James Wanter of Canton, OH; daughters, Kathy
Marie Molino of Virginia Beach, VA, Janice Elaine Farley of Richmond,
VA, and Elizabeth Ann Owens of Norristown, PA; eight grandchildren;
and brothers, James Gullett of Indianapolis, IN, John R. Gullett
of Quakertown, PA, and David Gullett of Lockport, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Paul Wanter Sr.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Cumberland
County, St. Raphael's Episcopal Church, or Windover Hills United
Methodist Church.
A local memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

WILLIE BERRIS BELK
Funeral services for Willie
Berris Belk, 86, of Monterey, who passed away Jan. 24, 2000,
were held Jan. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with
burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Revs. Roy Nash and
Jane Ann Brewington, and Bro. Eddie Hawkins officiated, with
special music by Robert Frank Hawkins.
He was born Sept. 8, 1913 in Jackson County, TN, the son of Charles
Berris Belk and Laura Ethel Masters Belk.
Mr. Belk was a tool maker for U.S. Rubber Co., and he was a member
of Monterey Nazarene Church. He was a master craftsman in wood
and metal work, and made the banjo that was played at his funeral.
He made many sets of black powder pistols and rifles, which are
now throughout the country.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Sandlin of Monterey;
five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law,
Exie Belk of Sterling Heights, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Maynard Belk; son,
Ken Belk; and brother, Palo Belk.
Pallbearers were Joan Sandlin, Jeffery Sandlin, Curtis Sandlin,
Jeremy Belk, Dennis McQuillan, and Ross Maynard.

FELIX WALTER CAMP
Felix Walter Camp, 74, of Crossville,
passed away Jan. 22, 2000.
He was born Jan. 4, 1926 in Leake County, MS, the son of J.N.
and Lucy Leona Camp.
Mr. Camp was a retired electronics technician for the Federal
Aviation Administration. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving
in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Delphia Lavis Camp of Crossville;
daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Kenneth Smalley; sons and
daughter-in-law, Phillip Camp of Walls, MS, and Patrick and Chrissy
Camp of Lebanon, TN; granddaughters, Lauren and Jennifer Smalley,
and Ellie and Anna Claire of Lebanon; sisters, Etha Wilbanks
of Columbus, MS, Mary Jo Phillips, and Madona Tolleson of Carthage,
MS, Marie Quarles of Pelahatchie, MS, Genita Hisle, of Mississippi;
brothers, Milton Camp of Hattiesburg, MS, Wilton Camp of Carthage,
MS; and Mack Camp of Longview, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elix
Camp.

Funeral services for Neil Lane
Ellis Sr., 66, of Crossville, who passed away Jan. 26, 2000,
were held Jan. 30 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with
burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Howard Scott officiated.
He was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Crab Orchard, the son of Leonard
and Lillie Mae Dyer Ellis.
Mr. Ellis retired as senior project technician for General Motors,
and he was also a member of West-Buttram, Post 5025, of Veterans
of Foreign Wars in Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Ellis of Crossville; daughters,
Deborah Irene Hodge of Macombe Township, MI, Donna Gay Taylor
of Chattsworth, GA; sons, Daniel Clinton Ellis of Canton Township,
MI, Neil Lane Ellis Jr., and David Lawrence Ellis, both of Crossville;
sisters, Billie Faye King and Brenda Robinson, both of Warren,
MI; brothers, Norman C. Ellis of Crossville, William Ellis of
Jefferson City, TN, and James Ellis of Wichita, KS; and seven
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were members of VFW, Post 5025, which were Victor
Lee, Jerry Playle, Lee Smith, Louie Turner, Coleman Vandever,
Levi Cottington, Ken Wagoner and Glen Cobb.

Funeral services for Ed Wilson,
68, of the Dripping Springs community near Monterey, who passed
away Jan. 26, 2000, were held Jan. 29 from the chapel of Goff
Funeral Home in Monterey, with burial in Mineral Springs Cemetery.
The Rev. Clayton Padgett officiated.
Mr. Wilson was a construction worker, and he was of the Baptist
faith.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Key Wilson of the Dripping
Springs community; daughters, Kathey McCowan of Dripping Springs
and Carol Phillips of the Hanging Limb community; sons, Buddy
Wilson of Hanging Limb, and Jerry Wilson of Dripping Springs;
17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Denton
of Knoxville, and Edith Clark of Dayton, OH; and brother, Harold
Wilson of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Bilbrey; and
sons, Jackie Wilson and John Mitchell Wilson.

Funeral services for Dora K.
Wood, 90, of Crossville, who passed away Dec. 27, 1999, were
held Dec. 29 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home,
with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. The Revs. Mike Smathers and
James D. "Pete" Ullmann officiated.
She was born Oct. 23, 1909 in Cumberland County.
Mrs. Wood was a retired school teacher, having taught in Cumberland
County schools her entire career.
Survivors include her daughters, Loreda Davis of Crossville,
Willene Jones of Hendersonville, and Carlene Bennudriti of Chattanooga,
TN; grandsons, Terry, Keith, Paul and Shane Wood, Michael Wood,
and John and Brian Bennudriti; great-granddaughter, Brittany
Wood; and brothers, Paul Kerley of Crossville, and Carl Kerley
of Kingsport, TN.
Pallbearers were Terry Wood, Keith Wood, Shane Wood, John Bennudriti,
Brian Bennudriti and Michael Jones.
