EUHLA JEAN KNIGHT
Euhla Jean Knight, 81, of Fairfield Glade, passed away April 23, 2000, in WyndRidge Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, from the chapel of Patience-Montogomery Funeral Home in Jackson, MI, with burial in Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, MI. The Rev. Marilyn Barney will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Patience-Montogomery Funeral Home.
Mrs. Knight was a native of Seline, MI. She was a bookkeeper.
Survivors include her husband, Gale Knight of Fairfield Glade; son, Larry Knight of Denver, CO; one grandson and one granddaughter; and one great-grandchild.

JAMES TYMON LEWIS
James Tymon Lewis, 68, of Sparta, TN, passed away April 25, 2000. Funeral services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis was born on Dec. 20, 1931, in Cumberland County, the son of Dallas and Ruby Morgan Lewis.
He was a roofing contractor, and he was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his father, Dallas Lewis of Crossville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Rocky Hunter, and Janette and Bobby Lee, all of Sparta; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Tymon Jr. and Kathy Lewis, and Richard Frank and Eunetta Lewis, all of Sparta; son, Donald William Lewis of Sparta; sisters, Geneva Sorrell of Ohio and Opal Hill of Texas; brothers, Donald Lewis of Florida and LeRoy Lewis of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Morgan Lewis; and his wife, Phyllis Jean Westover Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lazarus House Hospice in Cookeville.

WANDA LEE REDWINE
Wanda Lee Redwine, 57, of New Castle, IN, passed away April 16. Funeral services were conducted April 19 at Marcum-Troxell and Catron Funeral Home in New Castle, with burial in South Mound Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Weaver officiated.
Mrs. Redwine was born on March 21, 1943, in Fentress County, the daughter of Harrison and Dorothy Wallace Shelton.
She graduated from Cumberland County High School, and she enjoyed crafts, sewing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Billy Redwine of New Castle; daughter, Angie Sutton of New Castle; daughters and sons-in-law, Bridget and Lonnie Raiford, Rebecca and Ed Collier, Tonya and John Reno, Betty and Jeff Reynolds and Bobbie and Aaron Hudleson, all of New Castle; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Jr. and Susan Redwine of New Castle; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and a brother.


KIMBERLEY NICOLE CAMPBELL
Kimberley Nicole Campbell, 1 month old, of Crossville, passed away April 21, 2000, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Graveside services were conducted April 24 at Haley's Grove Cemetery in Crab Orchard, with Pastor Paul Lee officiating.
Survivors include Kimberley's parents, Penny and Curtis Campbell of Crossville; two sisters, Tonia and Amanda Campbell, and one brother, Curtis Lynn Campbell Jr., all of Crossville; grandparents, James and Uluenia Campbell of Crossville; and grandmother, Ione Boggs of Ohio.

EFFIE NOVELA DODSON
Effie Novela Dodson, 81, of Crossville, passed away April 22, 2000, in Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services were conducted April 25 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pastor Dr. James A. Lee and Bill Smith officiated.
Mrs. Dodson was born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Todd Town, TN.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Smith of Crossville and Reba Qualls of Cleveland, TN; sons, Harold Dodson of Pleasant Hill, Buster Dodson of Crossville and Thomas Dodson of Indianapolis, IN; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Smith, Joe Elmore, Jess Beaty, Bob Stults, Carl Smith and Kenny Dodson.

ANTOINETTE GIONTI
Antoinette "Granny" Gionti, 90, of Crossville, passed away April 24, 2000, in WyndRidge Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Dr. James Beasley will officiate.
Mrs. Gionti was born on July 6, 1909, in Johnstown, PA.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Maria Bitting of Crossville.

EDWARD J. MLASKA JR.
Edward John Mlaska Jr., 75, of Crossville, passed away April 20, 2000. Funeral services were conducted on April 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. David Rowan officiated, with special music by John and Ginger Hunnicutt, Charlie Rogers and Diana Ledbetter.
Mr. Mlaska was born on March 6, 1925, in Omaha, NE, the son of Edward J. Mlaska Sr. and his wife Fredrica Rampachek.
He was a mechanic, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Debra Myers of Minnesota; two sons, Edward J. Mlaska III of Minnesota and Ralph Mlaska of Illinois; sister, Virginia Sanford of Lyle, IL; and special friends, Conrad and LouAnn Mills and Mazen and Debra Hall, all of Crossville.

JOE MYERS
Joe Myers, 75, of Crossville, passed away April 22, 2000. Funeral services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Brian Branam will officiate, with music by Jewell and Joe Kesterson.
Mr. Myers was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Woodworth, LA, the son of Joe Sr. and Dullie Quinn Myers.
He was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the bronze star during World War II for valor in Germany.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Myers of Crossville; daughter, Jo Lynn Atkins of Newberg, OR; adopted children, Bobby Joe Myers of Cedar Rapids, IA, Angela Myers of Knoxville, TN, and Marlinda Myers of Crossville; sisters, Myrtle Farmer of Crossville, and Joy Welch, Dessie Mae Johnson and Dorothy Ware, all of Oakdale, LA; grandchildren, Julie Crabtree, Jeannie Atkins and Jennifer Smith; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Eugene Myers.
Pallbearers were David Booher, Bernard Hall, Bob Atkins, John Davis, Paul Davis and Bobby Joe Myers.

L.B. SEAGRAVES
L.B. Seagraves, 73, of Crossville, passed away April 22, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on April 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Clayton Padgett officiated, with special music by Deloy and Sybil Brown.
Mr. Seagraves was born on March 13, 1927, in Cumberland County, the son of Lee and Martha Nash Seagraves.
He worked in construction, and he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Katie West Seagraves of Crossville; son, Glen Seagraves of Nashville, TN; daughter, Glenda Cole of Nashville; sister, Effie McIntosh of Huntsville, AL; and two granddaughters, Allison Cole and Keri Cole, both of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie Seagraves and Claude Seagraves.
Pallbearers were Tommy Underwood, Dale Elmore, Ivan Mooneyham, Alton Swafford, Larry McIntosh and Terry McIntosh.

LEVI MOTE SMITH
Levi Mote Smith, 65, of Redkey, IN, passed away April 25, 2000, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, from the MJS Mortuaries Jones Chapel in Redkey, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Redkey. Pastor Arnold Burris will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary Chapel.
Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 21, 1934, in Livingston, TN, the son of Levi Mote Smith Sr. and Lola Ethiel Ramsey Smith.
He was employed at Turn Out Man Glass Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Local No. 501. He was very active at playing music on the banjo and guitar. He had resided in Redkey for 10 years.
Survivors include his mother, Lola Ethiel Smith of Crossville; sons, William Mote Smith and Levi Mote Smith Jr., both of Redkey; son and daughter-in-law, David T. and Deborah Davenport of Redkey; daughters, Lucinda A. Williams of Fairborn, OH, and Michelle R. Davenport of Ocala, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn E. and Gerry Taylor of Montpelier, IN, Lisa M. and Greg Stanton of Union City, IN, and Rebecca L. and Jim Dixon of Wabash, IN; brother, Emmett B. Smith of Ridgeville, IN; sisters, Claudia Sisco and Shirley J. Smith, both of Crossville, and Evadean Miller of Redkey; aunt, Nova Smith of Livingston; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Levi Mote Smith Sr.; son, Stephen Levi Smith; brother, Waldo Carl Smith; and four sisters, Barbara A. Davis, Ruth M. Littleton, Ethel Rogers and Alley Marie Smith.

KENNETH PAUL WEST
Kenneth Paul West, 65, of Crossville, passed away April 22, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pastor Victor Stephanini will officiate, with special music by Jane Norman.
Mr. West was a retired Army veteran with 20 years of service. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat, and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Pat West of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, Bernie and Lois West of Knoxville, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores and Hubert Cole of Sanford, NC, and Karen and Jerry Nokes of Knoxville; sisters, Carol Hudson of Logan, OH, and Kay Stedham of Tampa, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie West Sr. and Lura Mae West; and a sister, Evelyn Sanders.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Nokes, Clifton Lowe, Randy Schade, Brad Nokes, Hubert Cole and Wes Nokes.

HAZEL EDNA WHITMAN
Hazel Edna Whitman, 82, of Harrison, MI, passed away April 14, 2000 in the Church of Christ Nursing Home Care Center in Clinton Township, MI. Graveside memorial services were conducted April 22 at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Grimsley, TN, with Bro. David Rowan officiating.
Mrs. Whitman was born on Nov. 30, 1917 in West Virginia. She was self-employed.
Survivors include her sons, Dan Klofft of Harrison Township, MI, and Terry Klofft and Charles Whitman, both of Michigan; daughter, Beverly Whited of Crossville; sister, Dorothy Whitcotton of Texas; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Whitman; brothers, Frank Horner, Robert Horner and Jack Horner; and sisters, Ruth Waugh and Wilma Horner.

OLLIE BEATY
Ollie Beaty, 93, of Dunkirk, IN, and formerly of Monterey, TN, passed away April 20, 2000 at the Caylor Nickel Clinic in Bluffton, IN. Funeral services were conducted April 22, from the Jones Chapel of MJS Mortuaries in Red Key, IN, with Pastor Arnold Burris officiating.
Mrs. Beaty was born on Sept. 13, 1906, in Overton County, TN, the daughter of the late John and Cora Bell Norrod Sams.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel and Ernest McCowan and Delsie and Ernest Buckner, all of Dunkirk, and Opal and Clifford Phillips of Livingston, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lucille Beaty of Red Key, and Dewey and Reba Beaty of Dunkirk; sisters, Velma Phillips of Crossville, and Edna Wilson of Monterey; 31 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thermon Caleb Beaty; and two daughters, Edith Storie and Elise Lea.

EVELYN A. SHERRILL
Evelyn A. Sherrill, 71, of Crossville, passed away April 17, 2000 in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on April 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. John Lambotte and Robert Synan officiated, with special music by friends.
Ms. Sherrill was born on May 28, 1928, in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of Truman and Hazel Kerley Sherrill.
She was a bakery factory worker, and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Elsie Sherrill of Clarksville, TN, and Ira L. and Iris Sherrill of Crossville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Opal and Ben Pierson of Farnham, VA, Mary and Stewart Shadler of Front Royal, VA, and Naomi and Mickey Williams of Culpepper, VA; uncles, Leonard Kerley of Pikeville, TN, and Ulysses Kerley and Oscar Kerley, both of Crossville; aunt, Wilma Sherrill of Crossville; and many nieces and nephews.

THOMAS J. SUGGS
Thomas J. Suggs, 73, of the Vandever community, passed away April 15, 2000, at home. Funeral services were conducted on April 18, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Lantana Cemetery. Bros. Archie Howard and Gary Howard officiated.
Mr. Suggs was born on Sept. 13, 1926, in the Vandever community, the son of Doss H. and Lula W. Burgess Suggs.
He was a carpenter and welder by trade, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a faithful church member and a good neighbor.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Amy Suggs and Alvin and Vickie Suggs, all of Crossville; sisters, Ruth Ann Hamilton and Ruby N. Kerley, both of Crossville, and Betty Jo Wesley of Bowie, MD; and two grandchildren, Cody and Brett Suggs, both of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Robbins Suggs; his parents, Doss H. and Lula W. Burgess Suggs; and his brother, Cpl. Richard L. Suggs.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hamilton, Chuck Davis, Allen Hale, Tracy Buck, Jamie Buck and Larry Burgess.

CLARA L. WALKER
Clara L. Walker, 90, of Rockwood, TN, passed away April 19 in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted April 22 at Dogwood Baptist Church, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery. The Rev. James Williford officiated.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Dogwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Ed Paul of Clinton, TN, and Pearl and Howard Green of Rockwood; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sue Walker of East Ridge, GA, and John and Pam Walker of Fairfield, OH; grandchildren, Vickie and Bud Woolford, Neal and Jo Green, Wade and Mae Green, Douglas and Lorrie Green, Keith and Denise Walker, Sherrie and Artie Long, Rodney and J.J. Walker, Angie and Jeff Woolridge, Pacer and Cassie Howard and Chancey and Casey Howard; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Madison Romallas and Mary Ellen Hayes Ledford; her husband, Oliver J. Walker; granddaughter, Brenda Rutherford; great-grandson, Seth Long; two sisters and two brothers.

JANET R. PARVIN
Janet R. Parvin, 78, of Marco Island, FL, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 1, 2000 in Marco Island. Private memorial services were held.
Mrs. Parvin was born on Feb. 14, 1922, in Connecticut, the daughter of Harold B. and Elinor Potwin Roe.
She and her husband Lincoln moved from Crossville to Marco Island 12 years ago, where she became an active member of the Marco Island YMCA.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Lincoln Parvin of Marco Island; two sons, Dr. Tad Parvin of Crossville and Kent R. Parvin of Oslo, Norway; two daughters, Sydney Jerabek of Beverly, MA, and Elin Grikitis of New Orleans, LA; sisters, Louise Ashmead of Torrington, CT, and Fanny Cleary of East Hartford, CT; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


ANNETTA MARGUERITE BARNES
Annetta Marguerite Barnes, 86, of Crossville, passed away April 14, 2000. Funeral services were conducted April 17 at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs, WV, with burial in Mt. Olivet Methodist Church Cemetery in Berkeley Springs.
Mrs. Barnes was born March 2, 1914, in Berkeley Springs, the daughter of Sherrard and Sarah Beatty Unger.
She was a homemaker, and she was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
Local survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Dr. Phillip Deatherage of Crossville.

WILLIAM E. BOOK
William E. Book, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away April 12, 2000. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Fairfield Glade Community Church. Dale Marshall will officiate.
Mr. Book was born on Nov. 28, 1920, in Fairfield, IL, the son of William and Josie Young Book.
He was a retired railroad agent with B&O and C&O Railroads. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. He attended Fairfield Glade Community Church and served in the Marines and Naval reserve.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor "Elly" Book of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Annette E. Lim of Charlotte, TN; one grandchild, Benjamin Lim; and nephews, Kymm Taylor and Gregory Taylor.

EDNA PAULINE THOMPSON
Edna Pauline Thompson, 70, of Crossville, passed away April 15, 2000 in Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on April 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Mike Swearengin officiated.
Mrs. Thompson was born on Aug. 12, 1929 in Putnam County, TN, the daughter of Joe and Perlee Neal Murphy.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Creason, Faye Turner and Brenda Sue Smallwood, all of Crossville; three sons, Bobby Joe Thompson, Carl James Thompson and Michael Jim Thompson, all of Crossville; sisters, Mildred Sullivan and Wanda Ridge, both of Livingston, TN, Betty Jo White of Indianapolis, IN, and Joyce Ann Green of California; brothers, Billy Ray Murphy and R.L. Murphy, both of Springfield, TN, A.B. Murphy of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Joe Murphy of Crossville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Lee Thompson; and grandson, Jerry Creason.

MARTHA MAE CAREY
Martha Mae Carey, 68, of Crossville, passed away April 10, 2000. Graveside services were conducted April 12 at Crossville City Cemetery, with Pastor Dennis Lovell officiating.
She was a native of Perry County, TN, and she was employed at Hilltoppers Work Shop. She had served in the Army.
Survivors include special friends at Hilltoppers and the staff of Hilltoppers.

PHYLLIS ANN HAROLD
Phyllis Ann Harold, 67, of Crossville, passed away April 13, 2000. Funeral services were conducted April 17 at Lantana Road Baptist Church. Graveside services were held at City Cemetery in Lenoir City, TN, on April 18. Brian Branam officiated.
Mrs. Harold was born on Nov. 14, 1932 in Stearns, KY, the daughter of Boyd and Eva Malone Eblen.
She was a retired pharmacy assistant with Bachman Family Practice.
Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Richardson of Cincinnati, OH, and Terri Harold of Athens, GA; sons, Robert Jeffrey Harold and Bradley Harold, both of Cincinnati; sister, Edith Parrish of Stearns; brother, Curtis Eblen of Covington, KY; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold.

FREDERICK LASICH
Frederick Lasich, 73, of Crossville, passed away April 6, 2000. Funeral services were conducted April 10 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pastor Roland Smith officiated.
Mr. Lasich was a native of Manistique, MI, and he had worked as a printer. He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Lasich of Crossville; three daughters, Marilyn Rutherford of Rushville, OH, Joyce Lasich of Garland, TX, and Diane Mularoni of Mason, OH; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Clyde Thurman, Roger Holland, Donnie Brown, Harold Smith and two sons-in-law.

JAMES MILBURN MARSH
James Milburn Marsh, 68, of Sparta, TN, passed away April 9, 2000 in Standing Stone Funeral Home in Monterey. Funeral services were conducted April 10 from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta. Graveside services were held April 11 in Smith's Chapel Cemetery. Pastor Fate Wilson officiated.
Mr. Marsh was a native of Sparta. He worked as a livestock trader, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mary Caris Peters, 92, of Pleasant Hill, passed away April 13, 2000. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Peters was born on July 21, 1907 in Defiance, OH, the daughter of Albert Garfield and Mary Gertrude Jennings Caris.
She was a former teacher, tutor, homemaker, and member of the Pleasant Hill Community Church - United Church of Christ.

George Donas Bush, 64, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Memphis, TN, passed away April 11 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 14, at Family Funeral Care in Memphis, with burial in Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman, KY.
Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. today at Family Funeral Care.
Mr. Bush was a native of Hickman.
He was a graduate of the University of Memphis and the University of Indianapolis, and he served a tour with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He retired after 36 years of civilian service to the Department of the Army and the Department of Defense. His last position was director, Financial Systems Activity, Indianapolis. He also worked in data processing positions in Memphis; Huntsville, AL; Washington, DC; and Zweibruecken, Germany. He was a member of Harrison SERTOMA and the American Lung Association Golf Council, both of Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Master Gardeners of Cumberland County, and served as an AARP tax volunteer. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Jo South of Memphis and Roena Chaney of Destin, FL; longtime companion, Mary Greene of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Indianapolis; four nephews; and several grandnephews and grandnieces.

Ray Daniel Dixon, 76, of Crossville, passed away April 9, 2000. Funeral services were conducted April 11 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Howard officiating. Graveside committal was held April 12 at Potter's Chapel Cemetery in Morgan County.
Mr. Dixon was born on Feb. 13, 1924 in Cumberland County, the son of Perry and Nancy Turner Dixon.
He had been an employee of Roane Electric Furnace. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Potter Dixon of Crossville; daughter, Dianne Henline of Crossville; three sons, Michael Dixon and Stephen Dixon, both of Crossville, and Joe Dixon of Oak Ridge, TN; sister, Ethel Lee of Harriman, TN; four grandchildren, Vicki Houston, Cody Green, Chance Dixon and Christy Burns; and one great-grandchild, Tiffany Houston.

Mrs. Gould was born on Aug. 24, 1920, in Fentress County, TN, the daughter of William H. and Lillie Cook Bicknell.
She had been a factory worker in Catoosa Mills, and a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church.

Ralph Paul Watson, 59, of Crossville, passed away March 25, 2000 in WyndRidge Rehabilitation and Health Center. Graveside services were conducted March 28 at the Watson Cemetery, with A.D. Watson officiating.
Mr. Watson was born on Jan. 25, 1941, in Cumberland County, the son of Isaac and Letha Lundy Watson.
He had been employed in maintenance for Speno, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Mr. Shelton was born on July 27, 1938, in Fentress County, TN.
He was the owner of Shelton Used Cars and Shelton's Wrecker Service in Crossville for 35 years.

Mrs. Smith was born on Jan. 14, 1910 in Crossville, the daughter of Birch L. and Minnie Bruce Wheeler. She was a teacher, and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, Joe Lee Smith of Crossville; three daughters, Miriam Jenkins and Aileen Mize, both of Crossville, and Kathleen Cooper of Kingsport, TN; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eston Smith; son, James Albert Smith; two brothers, Creed and Woodrow Wheeler; granddaughter, Virginia Cooper Powell; and great-grandson, Samuel Joseph Cooperstein.

DONNA LUCIA WITT
Donna Lucia Witt, 68, of Crossville, passed away April 5, 2000, at home. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at the Tansi Community Church, officiated by Pastor Dr. Jeff Monday.
Mrs. Witt was born on April 12, 1931, in Lockport, NY.
She obtained her nursing degree from the University of Rochester and completed her pediatric nurse practitioner program at the University of Michigan.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Witt of Crossville; daughters, Alane Witt Lajeunesse of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and Karen McLean of Howell, MI; son, Rick Witt of Troy, MI; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mona Ringueburg and Margaret Bobsein; and a brother, Bud Wagner.

WAYNE CARPENTER
Wayne Carpenter, 75, of Lakeland, FL, and a half-year resident of Crossville, passed away March 25, 2000 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted March 28 at Crestview Baptist Church in Lakeland. Graveside services with military honors were held March 29 in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Mr. Carpenter was born on Feb. 7, 1925, in Hawkins County, TN.
He enlisted as a private second class in the Marine Corps in 1943. During his tour of duty in World War II, he landed on Guadalcanal nine times and was part of the Suicide Division formed to invade Peleliu Island. He received numerous medals for his heroics in the war.
After the war, Mr. Carpenter worked in a variety of jobs, including owning two restaurants in Tennessee and a rental business; he also worked as a salesman, and worked for the railroad.
His family moved its primary residence to Lakeland from Crossville in 1971, but still maintain a summer home here. He retired from Bordon Chemicals in Lakeland in 1982.
He was a member of the American Legion, and he was an active member and former deacon of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Crossville, and Crestview Baptist Church in Lakeland.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mildred Carpenter of Lakeland; daughter, Jodie Reed of Crossville; brothers, Reece Carpenter of White Pine, TN, and L. Carpenter of Thornhill, TN; sister, Madge Carpenter of Mooresburg, TN; and grandsons, Tom and Lane Reed, both of Crossville.

DeWITT SEWELL HODGE
DeWitt Sewell Hodge, 72, of Rockwood, TN, passed away April 4, 2000, in ParkWest Hospital, Knoxville. Funeral services were conducted April 6 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with the Rev. J.C. McCoy and the Rev. Pete Scarbrough officiating. Graveside services and interment will be today at 11 a.m. in the Daysville Cemetery.
Mr. Hodge was a retired mechanic with Southern Alloys, and he was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Rockwood.

EUGENE C. BECKMAN
Eugene C. Beckman, 84, of Burlington, IA, formerly of Sperry, IA, and Fairfield Glade, passed away March 30, 2000. Funeral Mass will be conducted today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, IA, with interment in Burlington Memorial Cemetery. Father Patrick Lumsden will officiate.
Mr. Beckman was born on Jan. 22, 1916, in Dodgeville, IA, the son of Otto and Anna Reif Beckman.
He was a farmer in the Sperry and Dodgeville area. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Dodgeville, and he was a member of the Farm Bureau, NFO and Lions Club of Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kathleen "Kay" Boyle Beckman of Burlington, IA; daughters, Barbara Krieger and Diana Beckman, both of Sperry, IA; son, Stephen Beckman of Fairfax, VA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Anna Beckman, and two brothers.

David Albert Byrd Jr., 82, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Clarksburg, WV, passed away March 31, 2000. No services are planned at this time.
Mr. Byrd was born on May 10, 1917, in Weston, WV, the son of David Albert Sr. and Evelyn Hope Byrd.
He was retired from Union Carbide, where he worked as a machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942-Õ45 in the U.S. Navy.

Mrs. Jones was born on March 28, 1910 in Roane County, TN, the daughter of Walter Ernest and Addie Viola Thompson.

IRA THOMAS MARSHALL JR.
Ira Thomas Marshall Jr., 86, of Crossville, passed away March 29, 2000. Funeral services were conducted March 31 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Long officiating.
Mr. Marshall was born February 20, 1914, in Haverhill, KS, the son of Ira Thomas Sr. and Abbie Bertha Covert Marshall.
He graduated from Leon High School in 1933, and he attended Butler County Community College.
He served in the Army during World War II from March 1942 to October 1945, spending 28 months in the European theater.
He was retired from Oliver Equipment Corp., and he was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the First Christian Church in El Dorado, KS. He moved from El Dorado to Crossville in 1997.
Survivors include his wife of almost 58 years, Gladys Grant Marshall of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Maejean and Rusty Jacobs of Topeka, KS; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alvin Moffatt of Cordova, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Percy Holdeman of Woodinville, WA; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Frank Milbourn of Oak Ridge, TN; sisters, Edna Jennings of Independence, MO, Katherine Colvert of Longmont, CO, and Winefred Shriver of Aztec, NM; brothers, Robert T. Clyde William Price, 89, of Rockwood, TN, passed away March 30, 2000 in the Rockwood Health Care Center. Full military honors were presented by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
Mr. Price was a member of the Mount Vernal Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

GRACE N. SKALNIK RUTHERFORD
Grace N. Skalnik Rutherford, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 20, 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. A memorial service will be held at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church at noon on Sunday, April 9.
Mrs. Rutherford was born on Jan. 11, 1921 in Cleveland.
She and her first husband, Milo Skalnik, owned and operated Porter Hardware in Marblehead, OH, before retiring in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Allan Rutherford, who she married April 19, 1997; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Christ of Marblehead, OH, and Judith Skalnik of Laguna Beach, CA; sister, Donna Robinson of Amarillo, TX; six grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Milo Skalnik, in 1995; her parents, Donald and Emma Gilbert Thompson; and one brother, Robert Thompson.

WAYNE THOMPSON
Wayne Thompson, 85, of Downey, CA, and a half-year resident of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 20, 2000 at his Downey home. The family will spread his ashes in a private ceremony in California.
Mr. Thompson was born on Feb. 3, 1915, in Duluth, MN, the son of William and Eleanor Thompson.
He was a member of Twelve High, a Masonic group, and he enjoyed playing golf while in Fairfield Glade. He and his wife Mary came to the Glade in 1990 as half-year residents.
Survivors include his brother Ken Thompson of California; daughter, Pat Koberg of California; three sons, Duane, Bill and Jack Thompson all of California; and four grandchildren, Mindy and Scott Koberg and Eric and Jacqueline Thompson, all of California.

Georgia Dee Barnwell, 81, of Crossville, passed away April 3, 2000. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Crossville Memorial Chapel, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Howard will officiate.

Mrs. Barnwell was born on Sept. 27, 1918, in Slate Springs, TN. She was a homemaker.

Lowell Franklin Burgess, 75, of Crossville, passed away March 29, 2000 at home. Funeral services were conducted April 1 at the Alloway Baptist Church, with burial in Joshua's Garden Family Cemetery. The Rev. Earl Burgess and Bro. Delmer McCowan officiated, with special music by Trent McCoy and Tammy Tackett. VFW conducted the presentation of the flag at the cemetery.
Mr. Burgess was born on April 30, 1924, in Crumb, WV, the son of Joseph Camel and Nancy Marcum Burgess.
He was a booth cleaner for the Ford Motor Co., and he was a member of Alloway Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Alta Mae Pack Burgess of Grandview, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin L. Sr. and Mildred M. Gore of Grandview; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Marvin L. Jr. and Patricia D. Gore of Grandview; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Marlene M. and Joseph L. Greene and Michelle R. and Christopher M. Scanlon, all of Grandview; and great-grandchildren, Joshua A. Gore, Kayla L. Gore, Michael J. Greene, Matthew L. Greene, Alec C. Scanlon, Daniel J. Scanlon, Tina M. Henderson and Cody D. Cox, all of Grandview.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clayton, Ermel and J.C. Burgess; two half-brothers, Winford Burgess and Ed Brooks; and a half-sister, Hester Ross.
Pallbearers were Marvin Gore, Marvin Gore Jr., Chris Scanlon, Michael Greene, David Burgess and Ernie Burgess.

ROBERT S. LAWSON
Robert S. Lawson, 77, of Fairfield Glade and formerly of Naples, FL, and Plymouth, MI, passed away March 28, 2000. A private memorial service was held at the Burris Funeral Home on March 30. Interment will be at the Prospect Harbor Cemetery, Prospect Harbor, ME.
Mr. Lawson was born on Nov. 24, 1922, the son of Roy C. and Edna L. Stevens Lawson.
He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, the University of Michigan School of Business Administration, and the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity and the Michigan Bar Association.
As a first lieutenant he was a member of the 401st Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force and served as a B-17 bomber pilot, flying 35 missions in the European theater of operations during World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Following his graduation from Detroit College of Law, he was appointed as a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and served two years in Beaver, PA, and Detroit, MI.
He worked as an attorney for Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, MI, in real property management until his retirement. During this time he was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church. Other community service activities included serving as president of the Plymouth University of Michigan Club and coaching basketball. He was an avid tennis player, voracious reader, skilled woodworker and expert handyman.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janet Osgood Lawson of Fairfield Glade and Corea, ME; daughter and son-in-law, Lisbeth L. and Dr. Alan S. Rosenfeld of Laconia, NH; sons and daughters-in-law, James S. and Anne M. (Farrell) Lawson of Dexter, MI, and Peter S. and Lynn (Gardner) Lawson of Northville, MI; sister and brother-in-law, Nina Jean and Robert G. Marshall of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 140 N. Main St., Crossville, TN, 38555, or the charity of your choice.

JENNIE CATHERINE COUNTISS McCORMICK
Jennie Catherine Countiss McCormick, 85, of Monterey, TN, passed away March 29, 2000 at the Standing Stone Health Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted April 1 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Campbell will officiate.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. McCormick was born on Feb. 15, 1915 in Monterey, the daughter of the late Alvha Hamilton and Rosa Bell Jones Countiss.
She was a cook for many years, and was a member of the Monterey Church of the Nazarene, where she was active in the Nazarene World Missionary Society.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Roy Greene of Monterey; daughter, Patricia Heuer and her fiance Jim Tierney of Green Bay, WI; sister, Edna Fidler of Taylorsville, KY; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin McCormick; and two brothers, Clarence and Winston Countiss.
