Cecil Susie Bowman, 75, of Crossville,
passed away Jan. 20, 2001, at Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral
services were conducted Jan. 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral
Home, with burial in Bowman Cemetery. Bro. David Rowan officiated.
Mrs. Bowman was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Cumberland County, the
daughter of Henry and Judy Tabor Barnwell.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Bowman Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Ed Bowman Jr., Luke Bowman and Tony
Bowman, all of Crossville; brother, Charles Barnwell of Crossville;
10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bowman Sr.;
and daughters, Judy Honeycutt, Lois Cordell and Regina Bowman.

Mrs. Bullock was born Sept. 26, 1944, in Ranger, WV, the daughter
of Harvey and Dorsey Chaney Brewster.
She was a factory worker for Purdue, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Bullock of Crossville;
daughters, Wendy Pryor and Penny Deck, both of Crossville; mother,

William Byers Sr., 66, of Pleasant
Hill, passed away Jan. 25, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical

Mr. Byers was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Cumberland County, the son
of William and Carrie Neely Byers.
He was an auto mechanic.
Survivors include his sons, William Byers Jr. of Cookeville,
TN, and Jimmy Byers of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann Byers.

Arnold Key, 87, of Dayton, OH,
formerly of the Martha Washington community in Fentress County,
TN, passed away Jan. 25, 2001. Funeral services were conducted
Jan. 28 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, TN,
with interment in Muddy Pond Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Nash officiated.
Mr. Key was born Oct. 9, 1913, in the Martha Washington community,
the son of Billy and Ida Todd Key.
He was a retired factory worker at the Kuhn Brothers Foundry
in Dayton, OH, and a member of Wrightview Nazarene Church in
Fairborn, OH.
Survivors include his daughters, Jeannette Key of Dayton and
Wanda Lynn Noble of Midlothian, VA; sons, Lowell Key of Beaver
Creek, OH, and Larry Key, Philip Key and Ralph Key, all of Dayton;
sisters, Ethel Yearly and Lois Roberts, both of Wartburg, TN,
Golda Stepp of the Martha Washington community and Evelyn Henry

Mrs. Lindsey was born Aug. 31, 1905, in Arcoley, IN, the daughter

John Ransom Carey, 89, of Monroe,
MI, passed away Jan. 28, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. from the Bacarella Chapel of Earle
Little Funeral Home in Monroe, with burial in Roselawn Memorial
Park in LaSalle, MI.
Mr. Carey was born Feb. 21, 1911, in Goin, TN, the son of John
F. and Dora Bell Johnson Carey.
He was employed for 47 years by Monroe Paper Products Co., which
later became Time Container Corp., as a stationary engineer in
the boiler room. He was a former member of the AFL-CIO, Local
1003, United Paper Workers. After his retirement in 1973, he
and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country and to Mexico,
England and Ireland.
Survivors include his daughters, Jo Ann Carey of San Clemente,
CA; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy K. and Robert Baisch of
Monroe and Mary E. and Thomas Sakala of Lake Orion, MI; granddaughter
and grandson-in-law, Roxanne L. and Thomas Murray of Chicago,
IL; and granddaughter, Tricia S. Sakala of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Laura
Wanita Kelly Carey; an infant daughter, Eileen; and infant twins,
son John and daughter Wanita. He was also preceded in death by
his brothers, Sherman Carey, Mitchell Carey, Walter Carey, Bill
Carey and Milt Carey; and sisters, Jane Cox Thompson, Gladys
Keck, Emma Cole and Ottie Proffitt, all of Crossville.

daughter of Catella Dillon and Frank DeVore.
She was a homemaker.

Centralia, IL; and four grandchildren.

Hamby, 66, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 26, 2001. Funeral

Mr. Hamby was born April 29, 1934, in Cumberland County, the
son of Edgar L. and Beatrice Hamby.
He was self-employed in construction, and a veteran of the U.S.
Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hamby of Crossville; son,
Mark Hamby of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David
Gorman of Knoxville; and sisters, Christine Norris of Crossville
and Reba Jarvis of Lancaster, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Carl

Mrs. Inglis was born June 16, 1922, in Charleston, WV, the daughter
of Isaac and Mary Harris Wooten.

of Charles and Tennie Moore Dixon.
She was the owner/operator of Sanders Grocery.

Mr. Culley was born March 15, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, the
son of John M. Jr. and Elizabeth Howard Culley.
He was an electrical engineer, and a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Marylin Wentz of Souderton, PA;
and granddaughter, Allyson Lewis of Washington, DC.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Sue Taylor Culley.

94, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Jan. 17, 2001. Memorial services
were conducted Jan. 21 at Pleasant Hill Community Church, with

Mrs. Ensminger was born Aug. 31, 1906, in Northfield, MN, the
daughter of Ralph and Emily Goodhue.
She was a homemaker and educator.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathryn Altman of Charleston,
SC, Beth Vanfossen of Severna Park, MD, and Margaret E. Ensminger
of Pasadena, MD; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ensminger was preceded in death
by her husband, Ross E. Ensminger; daughter, Ruth Mary McGraw;

Browns Mill Cemetery. Bishop Roger Hyder and Bishop Jerry Hassler

Mrs. Mansell was born April 23, 1933, in Joelton, TN, the daughter
of William F. and Virgie Norrod Edwards.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Crossville Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of Mayland Senior
Citizens, where she had served as treasurer, and the Mayland
Cemetery Committee, where she had also served as treasurer.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Clifford Mansell of
Mayland; son, Caral Mansell of Newnan, GA: and sister and brother-in-law,
Virginia and Eddie Brown of Fayetteville, GA.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ellie Lockhart.

Mr. Brewer was born May 6, 1915, in Claiborne County, TN, the
son of Joseph B. and Susan Moyers Brewer.
He was a salesman and truck driver for L.P. Shanks Co., and a
member and deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Alice Faye Ryle of Burlington,
KY, and Mabel Madewell of Ringgold, GA; son, Stanley Clayton
Brewer of Chattanooga, TN; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Jane Shipley Brewer;

Mrs. Shadden was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Cumberland County, the

She was vice president of the Shadden Tire Company, and a member
of First United Methodist Church.

Jo Bolin and Minnie Hunter, all of Crossville; sons, Tom Shadden

Mr. Overbay was born June 17, 1922, in Chattanooga, TN, the son

He was a retired Army chief, and a veteran of World War II and
the Korean War. He was a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist
Church, American Association of Retired Persons and Retired Officers
Association, and he was a Kentucky colonel.

Mr. Thurman was born July 15, 1934, in Cumberland County, the
son of Hugh and Pearl Kerley Thurman.
He worked in maintenance at Cumberland Mountain State Park, and
was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Doyle Lynn Thurman of Midland, TX, and Darron Shane Thurman of

Orchard.

Mildred L. "Peg" Harding,
91, of Batavia, IL, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away
Dec. 19, 2000. Memorial services were conducted Dec. 22 at the
Michealsen Health Care Center's Fellowship Hall in Batavia, with
the Rev. Donna Nelson officiating. Graveside services will be
conducted Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Green Acres Memory
Gardens in Crossville, with the Rev. H. Vern Daugherty officiating.
Mrs. Harding was born July 19, 1909, in Wallace, WV, the daughter
of Festus E. and Mary B. Robinson.
She and her husband Al Harding owned the Sea Spirit boating store
in Monmouth, IL, and owned and operated the Harding Trailer Company
in Cape Coral, FL, prior to retiring to Fairfield Glade. She
moved to the Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia in 1991.
She was a member of Geneva United Methodist Church, and belonged
to the Road Runners church group.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jeri and Chuck
Jonas of Naperville, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Ferrell H.
"Russ" Jr. and Anne Russell of Mequon, WI; brother,
Cecil Robinson of South Carolina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
and many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband,
Ferrell H. Russell Sr.; and her second husband, Al Harding.

Mr. Perkins was born May 30, 1921, in Detroit, MI, the son of
Alfred and Eva Perkins.

Herman Lee Wilson, 77, of Crossville,
passed away Jan. 6, 2001, at University of Tennessee Hospital
in Knoxville. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 8 from the

Bro. Grover Atkinson and Bro. Bradley Hatfield officiated, with

Mr. Wilson was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Fentress County, TN, the
son of David Monroe and Martha Elmore Wilson.
He was a coal miner, and a member of Rinnie Baptist Church and
Masonic Lodge No. 605 in Clarkrange. He was a U.S. Navy veteran
of World War II.

Clyde Medford, 75, of Fairfield
Glade, passed away Dec. 31, 2000. Memorial services will be at
1 p.m. Jan. 6, 2001 at St. Raphael's Episcopal Church in Crossville.
Mr. Medford was born April 7, 1925 in Sewanee, TN.
After he graduated from St. Andrew's Episcopal Prep School, he
served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps until 1945. He then
earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University
and worked for Union Carbide Corp. for 38 years. After retiring
to Fairfield Glade, Mr. Medford served as president of the Fairfield
Glade Rotary Club, chairman of the board of trustees of St. Andrew's
Episcopal Prep School, and he was an active member of St. Raphael's
Episcopal Church. He enjoyed flying, playing tennis and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elsie; brother, Roger
Medford; daughters, Linda Wagner and Marcia Medford; grandsons,
Kurt and Mark Wagner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations by made
to Hospice of Cumberland County, St. Raphael's Episcopal Church
or St. Andrew's Episcopal Prep School.

conducted Dec. 28 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral
Home, with Father Gregory Boisvert officiating.
Mrs. Solch was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Astoria, NY, the daughter
of Fred and Josephine Edwards.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Solch of Crossville; son,
Roy Solch of New York; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nella
Solch of New York; two grandchildren, Robert and Eleanor Solch;
and one great-grandchild, Jade Solch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Josephine
Edwards.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
DEAN PAUL STEPEK
Dean Paul Stepek, 75, of Crossville,
passed away Dec. 25, 2000. A prayer service was conducted Dec.
28 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with
Jeff Monday officiating.
Mr. Stepek was born May 1, 1925, in Detroit, MI, the son of Walter
and Mabel Stepek.
He was self-employed in pet grooming and flower shop businesses
in Garden City, MI, for 30 years and was also employed by Sealtest
Co. for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Stepek of Crossville; sons,
Terry Paul Stepek of Royal Oak, MI, and Jeffrey Mark Stepek of
Crossville; sister, Naudean McGraw of Garden City; and half-sister,
Mauvis Meyers of Royal Oak.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mabel Stepek.
