When CBS international news correspondent Martha Teichner visited the staff of Traverse City Central High School's newspaper, the students had some tough questions for the four time Emmy award winner.

Teichner, a Traverse City native, was in town to give the keynote address during a recent Athena Award presentation and produce a story about feminism in a small town for the CBS Sunday Morning Show that aired on Mother's Day. She visited with local business and political leaders, as well as the young women of her alma mater.

"She has a very interesting and inspirational life story. It is not common for women to be so high up in the journalism chain and it is truly motivating to hear about it," said aspiring journalist, Marissa Garrock.

Garrock, along with her classmates, looked to Teichner for advice on achieving success in the field of journalism and life in general.

"She is just a truly amazing person who really gave us something for all of us to strive for. She personalized everything she said, so it wasn't just like we were talking to any adult who didn't really care about talking to us," said sophomore, Margaret Parsons.

Caleigh Guoynes took Teichner's advice to heart.

"My high hopes of being a successful person when I get older only rose higher as a result of this powerful and meaningful conversation," Goynes said.

Teacher Missy Yeomans was thrilled for the experience her students had speaking with Teichner about her life and career.

"She asked the kids some pretty provocative questions about the role of their generation. She really made them think," Yeomans said.
