With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's not too early to plan a lyrical surprise for your beau.
Singers from Traverse City Central High School's top vocal ensemble - the Chorale-Aires - will deliver singing Valentines to area sweethearts on February 12-14.
Quartets, dressed in formal attire, will visit locations around Traverse City including homes, offices, businesses, hospitals, nursing homes and restaurants to serenade loved ones. Along with a choice of songs, the gift giver may also select a carnation or rose for that certain someone. For an extra fee, and with advance notice, the group will also learn and sing special requests.
"I love the idea that it is a surprise. I hope we make some people cry," said senior Claire Gibbons, noting that the group has already taken more than 15 advance reservations.
Proceeds from the Singing Valentine venture will help fund the group's trip to New York City planned for later this month. They plan to see a Broadway show, attend an opera at the Met, sing at a church near the World Trade Center site and at BB King's jazz club.
"A mom suggested this idea as a fund-raiser for our upcoming trip and I thought it was a great idea," said choir director Jeff Cobb.
"It is neat that they will be able to use their talent and see the results of all of their hard work," he noted.
