MIPA awards great news
EJH earns coveted Spartan Award for second straight year

Talk about newsworthy accomplishments.
When journalism students from Traverse City Central High School, Traverse City West Senior High, Traverse City East Junior High and Traverse City West Junior High attended the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association State awards ceremony in Lansing last month, they came home with a bus load of honors.
Along with the wide variety of individual awards, East Junior High received the coveted Spartan Award for a second straight year. The Spartan is the highest honor a newspaper staff can receive from MIPA. The East Junior High staff is the only junior high school to receive this award and one of only 38 high schools in the state.
"Last year's Spartan Award was a nice surprise, this year we really wanted to keep it," said East Junior High newspaper advisor, Jody Mackey. "My whole staff felt nervous but confident. I'm very proud of them, it's a great honor."
