Nicholas, 3, and Alexandra Friar, 6, laugh as their sled slowly makes its way down hill during Way to Grow Winterfest held Saturday at Twin Lakes Camp in Traverse City. The event featured participants from Long Lake, Norris, Willow Hill, Glenn Loomis and Central Grade School Way to Grow programs.

Event features family activities for five school programs

Sydni Ohanesian, 7 months old, bundles up for her first sled ride courtesy of her parents, Kerri and Joe Ohanesian who attended Winterfest with their other children, Alyssa and Nicholas. The Traverse City family attends the Way to Grow program at Norris Elementary.

Allison Sickle, 3, who attends Willow Hill Elementary Way to Grow, uses a spray bottle filled with water and food coloring to paint the surrounding snowbanks.

Bruce Christenson and his son, Ryan build a castle with less than ideal packing snow. However, the pair persevered and constructed a three turret castle complete with flags.

Families enjoy an afternoon of sledding on the slopes outside Gilbert Lodge. Other Winterfest activities included snow sculptures, indoor board games and craft projects.
