Way to Grow fall fun event Saturday morning at Timber Ridge drew 120 families and young children. Participants included parents and children from Cherry Knoll, Courtade and Bertha Vos Elementary schools, the Grand Traverse Academy and the Traverse City High School’s Parent Teen program. Taking a break from the half dozen hands-on projects available at the event, Randy Jones of Traverse City reads to his daughter, Sara, 2.

Children and their parents turned apples into turkey sculptures with the help of toothpicks, miniature marshmallows, raisins and olives. In addition to being fun, each project at the event was designed to promote the intellectual and motor skill development of young children.
