Central stages ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’

     Traverse City Central High School will present the entertaining and acrobatic “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” as their fall musical. Performance dates are November 8-10 and 15-17. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

     Set in the mid 1800s in the Pacific Northwest, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” tells the story of the Pontipee brothers who after their brother, Adam takes a wife, are determined to get wives for themselves. Since women are scarce, they “kidnap” some town girls and take them to their mountain home, but in the chaos, they forget to bring the preacher. Milly banishes all the men to the barn for the winter. When spring comes, the gals have fallen in love and don’t even want to return to town, even though the avalanche which closed Echo Pass is now melted. When the townsmen come to get them, the refuse and end up marrying all the brothers.

     Jeff Cobb is the musical director for the show. Pat Gallagher is the dramatics director and Erin Peck is the choreographer. Ellen Boyer is preparing the pit orchestra.

     Playing the role of Adam is James Hickey and Allen Loup. Milly is played by Betsy Spencer and Laura Crain. The role of Gideon is performed by Jeff Linsell and Brandon Bartkowiak.

     Tickets are available at the Central High box office Monday through Friday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Senior citizens may attend the Thursday, Nov. 8 performance for $5. Ticket reservations can be placed by calling 933-3573.
