Riders get into the swing of things while visiting the Midway at the National Cherry Festival this past weekend in Traverse City.

Mallory Palenkas, 5, of Traverse City, adjusts her “Miss Cherry Cheesecake” sash on her costume as she waits in line for the National Cherry Festival’s Pet Show’s best dressed competition Tuesday in F&M Park. She was there to help show her family’s pug, Wingnut. Entries were open to “live” pets and categories included best dressed, pet and owner look-alike, fat cat, most unusual pet, ugliest mutt and famous pairs.

Randy Simmons of Traverse City demonstrates his cherry pit spitting prowess as he launches a pit 30 feet 7 inches Saturday during the National Cherry Festival Pit Spit Finals at the Open Space. Simmons won the first place award of a certificate for two days and one night at Garland Resort.




Merlin and his assistance make a magical appearance at the National Cherry Festival Junior Royale Parade Thursday evening in Traverse City.
