Psychic Bowl scores big with fans

There were numerous nervous giggles heard in the long line at Border's Books this past Sunday. The line was not for a book signing, or to check out, it was to register for a free reading at the Traverse City bookstore's fifth annual Psychic Bowl.
"Last year while standing in line, my boss walked in and saw me. He asked what was I doing here, I was really embarrassed," said one woman who wanted to remain anonymous.
"It's just fun being here, I take it all with a grain of salt," said the person first in line, who arrived an hour before the first-come first-served tickets were to be handed out. "I came last year too, it's just a lot of fun."
Erin Zoulek, psychic bowl coordinator for Border's, estimated a crowd of nearly 300 participants this year. Border's also hosts a similar event, "Celestial Festival," during the summer months.
"I come every year," said Becky Jeffs as she stood in line, "I read tarot cards myself, this is kind of like a trade show conference for me. It's just curiosity, I like to see what other psychic phenomenon is out there."
Eleven readers participated in the Psychic Bowl, providing a variety of offerings which ranged from tarot card readings, aura readings and astrology to chakra balancing and polarity and energy healing.
"Psychic people are a lot of fun the be around," said tarot card reader Madam Katrina. When asked how she got into her specialty, she laughed, "it was the seventies, everyone in college was doing it."
Joe Breech, who has been a massage therapist for 10 years, set up his massage table next to a shelf of true crime novels. Breech practices chakra balancing and polarity which stresses body-mind-spirit integration leading to better health.
Health interests were the focus of those who saw Maryann the medical astrologer and Scott who deals with energy and healing. While some came to the Psychic Bowl looking for answers, most just came for some Sunday afternoon fun.
