ANNA "SUE" FANN

Funeral services for Anna "Sue" Fann, 59, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 23, 1999, were held Aug. 25 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born Dec. 19, 1939 in Cumberland County, the daughter of A.T. Stout and Shelia Aline Stout. Mrs. Fann was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Joe H. Fann of Crossville; mother, Shelia Aline Stout of Crossville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene Stout, Charles and Nelda Stout and David Lee and Anna Ruth Stout, all of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and David Watson of Mt. Juliet, TN; mother-in-law, Cladys Fann of McMinnville, TN; sisters-in-law, Hazel Blair of Woodbury, TN, Joyce Young of McMinnville, and Melanie Balew and her husband, Lee, of Rock Island, TN; brother-in-law and wife, Bratten and Carolyn Funn of McMinnville; several nephews and nieces; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, A.T. Stout.

LOUISE ROGERS

A memorial service for Louise Rogers, 82, who passed away Aug. 21, 1999, will be at a later date in Calverton, NY. She was born Nov. 15, 1916 in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Elmer and Sophia Lipko Onderko.

Survivors include her daughter, Christine Mason of Fairfield Glade; son, Eugene Rogers of New York; sisters, Joann Rendulie and Helen Stevens of Linesville, PA, Elizabeth McAnnalley of Pittsburgh, PA, and Cecilia Puliaficio of Littleton, CO; and brothers, Elmer Onderdo Jr., William Onderko, Franklin Onderko, all of Conneautville, PA, and Adolph Onderko of Linesville, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert N. Rogers.

CHARLES ARLEN SMITH

Funeral services for Charles Arlen Smith, 68, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 29, 1999, are scheduled for today, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors tonight at the funeral home from 7 until the time of the services.

He was born April 19, 1931 in Cumberland County, the son of James and Josie Brewer Smith.
Mr. Smith had been an employee with the water and sewer department of the City of Crossville.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Charles Smith of Carryville, TN, and Roger J. Smith of Crossville; brothers, William Smith and Herman Smith, both of Dayton, OH, Elmo C. Smith and Raymond Smith, both of Crossville, and Henry Smith of Akron, OH; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kay Smith, and brother, Alvin R. Smith.

TILFORD SMITH

Funeral services for Tilford Smith, 76, of Grimsley, TN, who passed away Aug. 25, 1999, were held Aug. 28 from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Fentress County.

He was born June 3, 1923 in Grimsley, TN, the son of Thomas Smith and Elsie Cooper Smith.
He was a retired veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Smith of Grimsley; daughters and sons-in-law, Diana Rich, of Jamestown, TN, Vonda and Dennis Robertson of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Gail and John Hyder of Crossville; grandchildren, Nicholas Threet and wife, Judy, Darryl Threet and wife, Rhonda, Debra Smith and husband, Jerry, and Troy Smith; great-grandchildren, Chad Pritchard, April Pritchard, Justin Smith, Whitney Smith, Christian Threet and Sarah Threet.

VIRGINIA ANN BURNETTE

Graveside services for Virginia Ann Burnette, 79 of Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 21, 1999, are scheduled for Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. at Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Spivey will officiate.
She was born Oct. 29, 1919 in Dayton, TN, the daughter of Cain and Cleo Denton Burnette.

Mrs. Burnette had been employed in civil service for the U. S. Navy-Cheatham Annex, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her niece, Dianne Manresa of Ringgold, GA; nephews, William H. Spivey of North Carolina, Allen Burnette Spivey of Dayton, TN, and Allen Burnette of Paducah, KY; and many great nieces and nephews.

TAYLOR NICOLE HALE

Graveside services for Taylor Nicole Hale, infant daughter of Clayton Hale Jr. and Lillian Wiggins Hale, were held Aug. 23 at Linary Cemetery.

She passed away the day of her birth, Aug. 20, 1999.

Graveside services for Royal Dooley Hood, 64, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 12, 1999, were held Aug. 15 from Allardt Cemetery in Allardt, TN. David Thompson and Jack Schwartz officiated.

The U.S. Air Force Honor Detail from Robbins Air Force Base in Robbins, GA, presented military honors, and served as pallbearers. He was born Jan. 5, 1935 in Fentress County, TN, the son of Lawrence Hood and Hazel Westfield Hood.
Mr. Hood was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma L. OTIS SEALS

Funeral services for Otis Seals, 92, of Pikeville, who passed away Aug. 23, 1999, were held today, Aug. 25, from the chapel of Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, with burial in Seals Cemetery.

He was of the Baptist faith, and was preceded in death by his parents, John and Effie Seals; sisters, Minnie V. Mills, Frances Jones and Beersha Wyatt; and brother, Arlos Seals.

Survivors include sister, Velma Rogers of Spencer, TN; and brother, Col. James A. Seals of Crossville; several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Seals Cemetery.

Memorial services for Gertie Mae Rankhorn Shepard, 81, formerly of Crossville, who passed away July 31, 1999, were held Aug. 8 at Second Baptist Church of Beach Island, SC. Dr. Craig Bailey officiated.

She was born Oct. 4, 1917, the daughter of Homer J. and Eva Lowe Smith.
Survivors include her husband, William D. Shepard; sons, Homer Rankhorn of Beach Island, SC, Lynn Rankhorn of Hixon, TN, and Tony Rankhorn of Graysville, TN; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Hensley, Muriel Eldridge and Betty Chadwick, all of Crossville; uncle, John Lowe of Crossville; aunt, Mary Feinstien of California; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for John Emert Swafford Sr., 85, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 17, 1999, were held Aug. 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Hamilton Cemetery in Bledsoe County.

He was born April 27, 1914 in Bledsoe County, TN, the son of James Aaron and Ann Thurman Swafford.
Mr. Swafford was a farmer, and he was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife, Lottie Fields Swafford of Crossville; son, John Emert Swafford J. of Hixson, TN; daughters, Jane Mills of Pikeville, and Margie Smith of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, John Paul, Jim, Jill and Bryant; great-grandchildren, Jared, Grant, Savannah, Blake and Timothy; and brother, Hoyt Swafford of Crossville.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Logan, Homer, Bill, Golia, Tom, Lynn and Jim Swafford; and sisters, Lucy Hedgecoth, Anna Parham and Amanda Swafford.

THE REV. DR. CHARLES B. WYCUFF

Funeral services for the Rev. Dr. Charles B. Wycuff, 74, of Spartanburg, SC, who passed away Aug. 18, 1999, were held Aug. 21 from Praise Cathedral Church of God.

He was born in Gadsden, AL.
Dr. Wycuff was a retired ordained minister and songwriter. He earned a doctorate degree in sacred music from Logos Graduate School in Miami. He was the author of many church hymns, among them "What a Lovely Name." A former pastor of Crab Orchard Church of God, and of other churches in Tennessee, he pastored churches in Illinois, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, South Carolina, as well. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan Hester Wycuff, and parents, James P. Wycuff and Flora Campbell Wycuff. Survivors include his sons, Charles C. Wycuff of Waterloo, SC, and Jonathan D. Wycuff and Perry Wycuff, both of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Joan Van de Riet and Jan Fuhrmann, and Darlene Wycuff, all of Spartanburg; brothers, James W. Wycuff of Gainesville, FL, Bill Wycuff of Atlanta, GA, and Bob Wycuff of Carrollton, GA; and sister, Doris Keel of Attalla, AL; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

JAMES "JIM" WILLIAM PANKEY

A memorial service for James Jim William Pankey, 87, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 16, 1999, were held Aug. 18 at the Fairview Baptist Church, with Bro. Dana Ward officiating.

He was born May 17, 1912 in Peoria, IL, the son of James Henry and Mary Clearwater Pankey.
Mr. Pankey was an iron worker Local 112, and he was of the Methodist faith. He resided in Peoria until his retirement in 1977. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Louise Rogers Pankey of Crossville; sons, James L. Pankey and Gerald L. Pankey, both of Crossville, and Raymond L. Pankey of Peoria; daughters, Louella Sales of Peoria, Mary Sanders of Ridgecrest, CA, Sharon Dale of Fairfield Glade, TN, Sandra Hodge of Crossville, Bonnie Grable of Aurora, CO, and Valerie Elliott of St. Charles, MO; 48 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

IRENE ESTELLE SHIVER

A graveside service for Irene Estelle Shiver, 82, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 13, 1999, was held Aug. 16 at Lake Wales Cemetery in Lake Wales, FL.

She was born March 18, 1917 in Upperville, VA, the daughter of James Rhodes and Lillian Johnson Rhodes. Mrs. Shiver was a homemaker.

ANNIE LEE WEATHERFORD THORNHILL

It is said, in all things there is an end. But in the circle of life there is no end ... birth, life, death, memories. There will be no new memories of Annie, but the memories we have will endure.
Services for Annie Lee Weatherford Thornhill were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Pineville, LA, with the Revs. Claude Weatherford and Steve Maltempi officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Pineville, under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Pineville.

Annie W. Thornhill, of Pineville, lived a full life from Dec. 10, 1916 to Aug. 15, 1999; 82 fulfilling years. Annie was known as "Mama" to many through the years.
Annie is survived by four sons, Gene Thornhill, and William Thornhill, both of Ball, LA, Floyd Thornhill of Tioga, LA, and Horace G. "Rusty" Thornhill Jr., of Crossville; daughters, Millie Claes of Reno, NV, and Liz Nordin of Houston, TX; stepchildren, Jack Thornhill of Tioga, and Mary Watson of Albuquerque, NM; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mossie Hoskins, 75, of Crossville, who passed away Aug. 14, 1999, were held Aug. 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

She was born April 20, 1924 in Hyden, KY, the daughter of Boone and Fanny Smith Pace. Mrs. Hoskins was a housewife, and she was of the Baptist faith.

She was born March 22, 1923, in Cumberland County, the daughter of H. K. Woody Sr., and Betty Jane Tabor Woody.

Mrs. Houston was a homemaker, and she was of the Baptist faith.

He was born Jan. 20, 1936 in Claiborne County, TN, the son of William David Jones and Harriett Ann Ford Jones.
Mr. Jones was a farmer, and he was a member of Lantana Road Baptist Church.

Private memorial services for Joseph Stefanc, 54, of the Cumberland Cove community, who passed away Aug. 11, 1999, were held Aug. 13 at the family home. The Rev. Jackye Pennington officiated.

He was born Dec. 13, 1944 in Libertyville, IL, the son of Joseph Frank Stefanc and Sylvia Stefanc.
Mr. Stefanc was a retired machinist with OMC/Johnson in Waukegan, IL, and he was of the Catholic faith.

INA "TOOSIE" TURNER

Funeral services for Ina "Tootsie" Turner, 78, of Rockwood, who passed away Aug. 15, 1999, are scheduled for today, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. (EDT) from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with the Revs. Jim Hutson and Steve Foster officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. (CDT) in Oakland Cemetery in the Pomona community of Cumberland County. Mrs. Turner was a retired registered nurse, and was an employee of Chamberlain Memorial Hospital for 44 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rockwood.

Survivors include her husband, Delmus Turner of Rockwood; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Turner Walker and Gary Walker, of Rockwood; and Della Turner Duren and Frank Duren of Midtown, TN; and grandchildren, Marco Walker and Alana Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaines Noah and Azzie Kindred Bane.

CAROLYN HESS KROUSE

Funeral services for Carolyn Hess Krouse, 75, who passed away Aug. 10, 1999, will be held today, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home. The Rev. Vern Daugherty will officiate. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the time of the services.

She was born Jan. 15, 1924 in Union Mills, VA, the daughter of George and Mable Asbury Hess.
Mrs. Krouse was retired from the Sarasota School System, for which she worked as an administrative secretary.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Krouse, of Fairfield Glade; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Shirley Dresch of Conway, SC; stepdaughters, Barbara Patrizi of Philadelphia, and Judy Lechner and her husband, John, of Grove City, OH; stepson, Michael Krouse and wife, Glenna of Fairfax, VA; sisters, Gloria Condrey of Union Mills, NC, and Constance Tippin of Cocoa Beach, FL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

KATHY ATKINS PHELPS

Funeral services for Kathy Atkins Phelps, 43, of Knoxville, who passed away Aug. 9, 1999, are scheduled for tonight, Aug. 11, at 8 at McCarty's Evergreen Chapel, 7426 Asheville Hwy. in Knoxville. The Rev. Bobby H. Bowen will officiate. Friends will be received from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the services this evening at the the chapel.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m., tomorrow, Aug. 12, at Eastview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Phelps was a member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Phelps; mother, Shirley Overstreet Bowen of Crossville; stepfather, Bobby Bowen of Crossville; grandmother, Auda Atkins of Jackson, MS; nephew, Patrick Atkins of Crossville; and special family, Raymond and Jeannette Dickerson of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph J. Atkins.

JOHN I. TALTON

A memorial service for John I. Talton, 81, of Fairfield Glade, who passed away Aug. 8, 1999 at his home, was held Aug. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Crossville. The Rev. Merlin Sepmeyer officiated.

He was a retired printing estimator and had worked many years for Marshall and Bruce Printing Co. of Nashville. Mr. Talton was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Jean McMillan Talton of Fairfield Glade; son and daughter-in-law, John Talton III and Margie Talton, of Nashville; daughter, Jeanie Talton of Nashville; grandchildren, Dean and David Wolfe of Nashville; and great-grandchildren, Zack and Hayley Wolfe of Nashville.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, or Crossville Christian School.

HARLEY ULYSSES BRUMMETT

Funeral services for Harley Ulysses Brummett, 99, of Vincennes, IN, formerly of Union County, TN, and Cumberland County, who passed away Aug. 4, 1999, were held Aug. 7 at Mt. Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Campground Cemetery, in Clarkrange, TN.

He was born Dec. 16, 1899 in Union County, the son of William Andy Brummett and Martha Burry Brummett Mr. Brummett was a farmer and he was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Muncie, IN.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel and Diane Brummett of Vincennes, IN, and Andy and Reva Brummett, James and Dorothy Brummett, and Paul and Margie Brummett, all of Muncie, IN; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Lonnie Mullins of Muncie, Mary and Walter Boles of Clarkrange, TN, Edna and Dale McQueary of Dayton, OH, and Virgie Argabrite of Vincennes; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Reva Bell Patton Brummett; second wife, Stella Lay Brummett; three sons; one daughter; and several brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers were Michael Boles, Donathan Brummett, Eddie Argabrite, Lynn Bently, Timothy Brummett, Tony Brummett, David McQueary and William Thomas.

The Revs. Hoyt Davis and Ronnie Smith officiated.

MAZY LEE FARMER

Funeral services for Mazy Lee Farmer, 87, of Crossville, who passed away July 29, 1999, were held Aug. 2 at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

Dr. James H. Beasley Jr. officiated.
He was born Nov. 1, 1911 in Hilham, TN, the son of Martin Lee Farmer and Eva Carmack Farmer.
Mr. Farmer was retired from UniRoyal and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Myers Farmer of Crossville; daughters, Frances Town of Sarasota, FL, and Debra Galluppi of Warren, MI; son, Ronald Farmer of Ashland, OR; and grandchildren, Lisa Patzer, Ronald M. Farmer, Shea Farmer, Courtney Farmer and Ryan Farmer.

Pallbearers were Ronald Farmer, Ronald M. Farmer, John Davis, Marcello Galluppi, James Roller, John Paul Davis and Bill Boston. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MARY LOUISE TRYNDA

She was born Aug. 21, 1935 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of George Bennett Sr. and Hazel Smith Bennett.
Mrs. Trynda was a housewife, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Little of Michigan, and Carl Trynda Jr. and Frankie Trynda, both of Milan, MI; daughters, Rosemary Little of Michigan, and Josephine Trynda and Diane Trynda, both of Hillsdale, MI; four grandchildren; sisters, Pat Begley of Crossville, Barb Sanders of Topeka, KS, Bertha Houston of Detroit, Carolyn Sue Begley of Hillsdale, and Johanna Bennett of Pontiac, MI; and brother, George Begley Jr. of Milan, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Trynda Sr.

STANLEY DALE YEARY

Funeral services for Stanley Dale Yeary, who passed away July 30, 1999, were held Aug. 4 at Burris Funeral Home. Bro. Wayne Markum and Brian Brannom officiated.

He was born Dec. 22, 1943 in Dayton, OH, the son of James Yeary Sr. and Lorene Todd Yeary.
Mr. Yeary worked for Aramark Correction Service in California as a commissary manager. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Lorene McClain of Crossville; daughter, Sherry Ann Yeary of Anaheim, CA; stepdaughter, Stacey Lynn Cooper of Cucamonga, CA; sister, Gwendolyn Iris Henderson of Ten Mile, TN; and brother, James H. Yeary Jr. of Crossville. Pallbearers were Mike Henderson, Bryan Moss, Jimmy Todd, Sarosh Mistry, Mike Berry and Francisco Valle. Memorials may be made to Lantana Rd. Baptist Church Building Fund.

JAY HUGH CAMPBELL

Funeral services for Jay Hugh Campbell, 65, of Crossville, who passed away July 30, 1999, were held Aug. 1, from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 13, 1933 in Cumberland County.
Mr. Campbell was a retired policeman and security guard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his former wife, Jo Ann Fallen of Winchester, KY; son, Jay Campbell, of Clay City, KY; brothers, Wesley Campbell and Frank Campbell, both of Crossville; sisters, Jean Barnes of Ohio and Kathryn "Tootie" Anderson of Nashville; grandchildren, Jason Campbell and Cassie LeRay Campbell; great-granddaughter, Samantha Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Lee Campbell and Carson Campbell; and sister, Mae McCormick.

She was born Aug. 9, 1944 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Robert Blaine McDaniel Jr. and Dorothy Frances Patton McDaniel.

Mrs. Dale was a charter member of the Memorial Baptist Church.

She was born June 22, 1912 in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Mount and Addie Masters.
Mrs. Norrod was a housewife and she was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Elmer Norrod of Crossville; nephews, Jesse Tharpe Jr., Jimmy Masters and Thomas Coffman; and nieces, Dean Poindexter, Bobbie Jean White and Faye Hickey.

MILDRED PIERCE

Graveside services for Mildred Pierce, 84, of College Station, TX, formerly of Crossville, who passed away July 25, 1999, were held July 30 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, TN. The Rev. George Long officiated.

She was born Oct. 26, 1914 in Crab Orchard, the daughter of John and Cora Howard Sherrill.
Mrs. Pierce was a licenced practical nurse, and she was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, Marion Neil Pierce of College Station; sister, Alma Sherrill Stasio of Fresno, CA; aunt, Esther Ledford of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Pierce.
