Cumberland County sheriff's investigators say they are not yet ready to close the file on the cause of death of a Cumberland County man who died from a single gunshot wound to the head Sunday night. All indications appear that the shooting was accidental.

A preliminary autopsy report by Tennessee Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Harlan confirmed witness reports that the gunshot wound suffered by Randall R. Loshbough, 22, Rt. 6, Box 395, was self-inflicted.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Jim Moore and Cumberland County sheriff's investigators were called to the Rick Loshbough residence on Martin Burgess Road around 11 p.m. Sunday.

When Deputy Sheriff Tom Howard arrived on the scene he found Randall Loshbough's body lying beside his pickup truck, covered with a sheet. Witnesses said the victim had just arrived after being at another location where the weapon had been fired and was handling the gun under the assumption it was empty when the gun discharged, killing Loshbough instantly.

Present at the residence when the incident took place in addition to the brothers were Cheri Loshbough, Brenda Reese, Kenny Reese and Tonica Scott, although not all were in the area where the shooting took place when it happened.

Sheriff's Investigator David Gibson said yesterday officers were waiting for final autopsy findings and were going to take a few days before issuing a final ruling.
