Anna Lavena "Vena" Hughes, 87, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 18, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Buford Kelley officiating. Private family graveside services were held Sept. 21 at Pomona Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes was born March 24, 1915, in Pulaski, VA, the daughter of Ephram and Ida Carroll McPeak.
She was a homemaker, and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Dallas Hughes of Crossville; and sister, Callie Patton of Pulaski, VA.
She was preceded in death by an infant son.
Pallbearers were Johnny Turner, Joe Vasquez, David Oaks, Eddye Baker, Chris Hughes and Mark Vasquez.

Yvonne Ester Mayton, 68, of Somerset, KY, passed away Sept. 18, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Paul Sayre officiated, with special music by Richard Carey.
Mrs. Mayton was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Crossville, the daughter of Ernest and Ella Tabor Lyons.
She was a secretary, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Mayton of Somerset, KY; daughters, Jacki Cahoon of New Camp, VA, and Suzanne Walters of Somerset; mother, Ella Lyons of Bremen, GA; brothers, Charlie Lyons of Georgia and Melvin Lyons of Daytona Beach, FL; sister, Cindy Roberts of Carrolton, GA; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tommy Cahoon, Bobby Mann, Justin Walters, Ryan Walters, Blake Walters and Jeff Lyons.

Geoffrey Allen Metcalf, 41, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Sept. 26, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 28 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with burial in St. Francis Columbarium. Father Greg Neuzil officiated.
Mr. Metcalf was born Feb. 2, 1961, in LaGrange, IL, the son of Robert and Dorothy Metcalf.
He was employed in construction of pre-manufactured homes, and he attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Dorothy Metcalf of Fairfield Glade; daughters, Sara, Keri and Lori Metcalf, and their mother, Forshia Pennington, all of Russellville, AL; brothers, Kevin Metcalf, Patrick Todd Metcalf, Gary Metcalf, Brian Metcalf, Michael Metcalf, Sean Bradley Metcalf and Jon Metcalf; 18 nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces.
He was recently preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Metcalf.

Robert Samuel Toggerson, 85, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Sept. 25, 2002. No services are planned.

He was employed in management for General Motors, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Dorothy Ballamae Carson, 88, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 26, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Vern Daugherty officiated.
Mrs. Carson was born July 20, 1914, in Bude, MS, the daughter of Wiley B. and Nina Rae Turnipseed Day.
She was a secretary for International Harvesters, and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Carson of Crossville; son, Ken Rand of Crossville; daughter, Patricia Carson of Crossville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Pershing Day; and sister, Elsie Olson.

Thomas Gibson
Jan. 11, 1938 - Sept. 30, 2002
Thomas "Tom" Gibson, 64, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sept. 30, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Oct. 2) at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in Pomona. An Honor Guard will present the flag, give a 21-gun salute and play "Taps."
Mr. Gibson was born Jan. 11, 1938, in Cumberland County, the son of Otis and Ruby Rector Gibson.
He was an industrial construction worker, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Gibson; mother, Ruby Rector Gibson; children and their spouses, Diana Lynn Gibson of Ohio, Thomas Joe Gibson Jr., Jimmy "Doc" Gibson and Irene Gibson, all of Monterey, Darla and Kevin Reed, Larry and Laura Gibson, Marsha Allen, Tiffany Allen and John Thomas Gibson, all of Pleasant Hill, and Retha and Skip Roberts of Baxter, TN; 10 grandchildren; brother, Otis Dean "Hot Shot" Gibson of Crossville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma McElhaney of Crab Orchard, Diane and Terry Parham of Woodbury, TN, Joyce and Ernie Smith of Manchester, TN, and Anna Grey and Steve Bollinger, and Bronda and Mark Woody, all of Crossville; and former wife and friend, Jean Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Gibson.

Harold C. Hansen
Feb. 28, 1919 - Sept. 28, 2002
Harold Clark Hansen, 83, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sept. 28, 2002. A memorial service will be held today (Oct. 2) at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Glade Community Church, with Dale Marshall officiating. Interment will be in the Fairfield Glade Community Church Columbarium.
Mr. Hansen was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Highland Park, MI, the son of Neils C. and Lena Weinrich Hansen.
He sold insurance for Maccabees Insurance Co. for 46 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the oldest graduate from Roane State, receiving his college degree at age 81.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice M. Robbins Hansen of Pleasant Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sharon Hansen of Michigan; daughter, Kathleen Hansen of Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Joyce Hansen; and sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Alvin Anderberg of Fairfield Glade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Robert Hansen.

Payton Richards
Feb. 10, 1931 - Sept. 30, 2002
Payton Richards, 71, of Grimsley, TN, passed away Sept. 30, 2002. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Mundy Funeral Home South Chapel in Clarkrange, TN, with burial in Spring Chapel Cemetery in the Banner Springs community. The Rev. Ronald Whited and the Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate.
Visitation will be tonight (Oct. 2) from 5 to 9 and Thursday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. until time of services, at the funeral home.
Mr. Richards was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Fentress County, TN.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of Grimsley Methodist Church. He was a member of the Fentress County Utility Board, and was a former county commissioner of Fentress County.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Ramsey Richards of Grimsley; son, Randy Richards of Cookeville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Roger Norris of Grimsley; brother, Denton Richards of Grimsley; sisters, Evelyn Hall and Orpha Ridenour, both of Grimsely; and grandchildren, Amanda Richards, Drew Richards, Leah Norris and Riley Norris.

Nov. 11, 1948 - Sept. 17, 2002
Terry Lee Thweatt, 53, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 17, 2002. A memorial service was held Sept. 21 at Stephen Gap Church of Christ, with Bro. Phil Jenkins officiating. A private family graveside service was held Sept. 20 at Liberty Church Cemetery in Clarksville, TN.
Mr. Thweatt was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Montgomery County, TN, the son of John Edward and Tommie Welker Thweatt.
He was a machine repairman for General Motors.

Katie Lanius Allen, 92, of Sumter, SC, passed away Sept. 22, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 24 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter.
Mrs. Allen was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Jack Bennett and Willie Mai Bell Lanius.
She relocated with her family to Sumter in 1942. During the war years, she worked with the Ration Board, and later worked in the private sector for 35 years as an accountant. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Dr. Christopher G. Carsten III of Greenville, SC, William Allen Carsten of Cades, SC, and Kay Carsten Thomas of Spartanburg, SC; nephews, Jack Looney and Tom Looney, both of Crossville; niece, Anne Looney of Martin, TN; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester W. Allen; daughters, Kay Allen and Jay Allen Carsten; and sister, Ruth Lanius Looney, formerly of Crossville.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fellowship Sunday school class of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Garrison was born May 28, 1937, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Gene and Nota Mae Evans Mathes.

Mrs. Mourfield was born Oct. 14, 1956, in New Castle, IN, the daughter of Charlie and Winfred Lucille Pugh Stomm.

Marshall Lanier Sitton, 72, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 29, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 2 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Elmore Cemetery. Bro. Wayne Matthews officiated, with special music by Mike McCoy.
Mr. Sitton was born June 5, 1930, in Meriwether County, GA, the son of Looper Clay and Aurelia Row Sitton.
He was a tree trimmer for Seelbach Co., and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Mae Delk Sitton of Crossville; sons, Robert Sitton and Michael Sitton, both of Crossville, and Clay Sitton of Clarkrange, TN; daughters, Rose McCoy and Pam French, both of Crossville; sisters, Gerrie Lyons and Yvonne Brock, both of Georgia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wilton was born April 27, 1928, in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Wally and Bessie Evans.

Joann Burkhart, 67, of Knoxville, passed away Oct. 2, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 5 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with interment in Shady Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Clayton Padgett officiated.
Mrs. Burkhart was born May 10, 1935, in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Cora Mae Looper and Allison Wilson.
She had owned Farragut Diner, and at the time of her death owned and operated Joann's Restaurant on Union Ave. in Knoxville.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Zack and Marsha Bohannon of Crossville; sister, Edith Clark of Dayton, OH; brother, Harold Wilson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chelsea Bohannon, Katelin Bohannon, Shawn Hatfield and Heather Hatfield; great-grandchildren, Zackary, Michelia, Dallas and D.J.; and special friend, Charles Kilpatrick of Knoxville, and his two sons, Brad and Chad Kilpatrick, both of Chattanooga.

Hoy Kenneth McDonald, 78, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 27, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Danny Bell and the Rev. Jerry Randol officiated, with special music by Sheila Hawn.
Mr. McDonald was born May 13, 1924, in Monroe County, TN, the son of Enos and Ada Fowler McDonald.
He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He as a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mazelle Lowe McDonald of Crossville; son, Gary McDonald of Kingsport, TN; daughters, Shirley Stone of Stockbridge, GA, Phyllis McLeroy of Nashville, Debbie Woody of Kingston, TN, and Janice Crabtree of Crossville; brother, Kermit McDonald of Crossville; sisters, Mavis Norrod and Avis McDonald, both of Livingston, TN; and four grandchildren.

Hazel McKinnon Spetka, 77, of Mount Vernon, OH, passed away Oct. 4, 2002. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Doug Marshall officiating.
Mrs. Spetka was born July 9, 1925, in Columbus, OH, the daughter of James and Mary Emma Rodgers McKinnon.
She worked as a physical education instructor for the YMCA, and helped with the outreach program for Station Break. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, the Ohio Eastern Star Home Knox Chapter No. 236, and was very active with the League of Women Voters.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Spetka; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Lawrence and Christine McKinnon of Toledo, OH, Brian McKinnon Spetka of Chattanooga, Charles Robert and Casey Foulks Spetka of Philadelphia, PA, and Jason Grant Spetka of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Marilyn Gaye Spetka of Columbus, OH; and grandchildren, Emily Christine Spetka and Matthew McKinnon Spetka.

Nettie D. Summers
Nov. 14, 1920 - Sept. 28, 2002
Nettie Davis Summers was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Cumberland County, TN, to Joe and Ellie Davis.
She graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy (high school) and obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN.
She taught school in Cumberland County for several years before moving to Jacksonville, FL. She also taught in Orange Park, FL, where she lived at the time of her death. Her teaching career totaled more than 50 years.
She loved school and her students, being an important influence in their lives. She not only taught the lessons in their textbooks, but also things to help them through life - such as one former student said, "Nettie taught me how to set a table."
Nettie departed this life on Sept. 28, 2002, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Claude and Kermit Davis of Crossville; and sisters, Tressie Trady and Alma Ledbetter, both of Harriman, and Etta Koger of Albany, KY.
Survivors are her husband, Charles Summers; brothers, Kenneth Herman and Calvin Davis; sister, Hattie Reed of Harriman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was laid to rest in Roane Memory Gardens, with a graveside service conducted by Bro. Charles Brown, on Oct. 2, 2002.

Wayne Lee Benson of Fairfield Glade went home to be with the Lord Oct. 8, 2002, after a 10-year battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Athens, TN, to Parker Lee Benson and Cora Tressa McKheen. He was preceded in death by his father, Park; his step-father, Roy Lee "Red" Ferguson; and his mother-in-law, Claudella Queen Gentry.
Wayne is survived by his mother, Tressa Ferguson; his wife, Mary Nell Gentry Benson of Fairfield Glade; and his children and their spouses, Mary Tressella and Jan Jaggers of Louisville, KY, Parker Ralph and Carol of Tate, GA, Aaron Lee and Betty of Jackson, TN, and Billy Wayne of Smithville, TN. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Luke and Camille of Anchorage, AK; Heather and Jan Snodgrass of Louisville, KY; Jenny and Chris Partain of Maryville, TN; Gabe and Tilly of Tate, GA; Aaron, Mary Elizabeth, Zac and Sarah of Jackson, TN; and Greg and Chris of Cookeville, TN.
Wayne surrendered to the gospel ministry in March 1958 at his home church East Athens Baptist, Athens, TN. He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, TN, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. He served in Baptist churches until 1978, at which time he joined the United Methodist Church and served in United Methodist churches until June 2000. He retired after nine wonderful years at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Wayne was a great preacher and a wonderful minister to his people.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Bilbrey Funeral Home. A service celebrating Wayne's life will be held on Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Bishop William W. Morris will conduct the service.
The family will also receive friends at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, TN, on Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. A brief service will follow. Roy Wilson Wayne's first Sunday school teacher will conduct the service.
Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, TN on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hospice of Cumberland County, American Cancer Society, The Endowment Fund of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, or East Athens Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sullivan was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Porter and Ida Mae Garrett Winningham.
She was a hospital custodian, and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Henry D. Taylor

Dr. Henry Dow Taylor, 80, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 7, 2002. Graveside services were conducted Oct. 10 at Good Hope Cemetery.
Dr. Taylor was born July 9, 1922, the son of Cato and Lola Belle Taylor.
He served in the South Pacific with the Marine Corps in World War II, earning a Purple Heart. After service, he received his bachelor's degree from Tennessee Tech and his DDS from the University of Tennessee at Memphis in 1953. He practiced dentistry in Oak Ridge, TN, from 1953 to 1992.
Dr. Taylor was a charter member of Christian Church of the Cumberlands (Disciples of Christ) in Crossville. He also held membership in the Jaycees and the Second District Dental Society, and was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Ashburn Taylor; sons and daughter-in-law, John Taylor of Oak Ridge and Dan and Cathy Taylor of Doyle, TN; and brother, Dr. William Taylor of Cookeville.

William Jeffery Brown, 41, of Houston, TX, passed away Oct. 8, 2002. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. at Bilbrey Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until time of service.
Mr. Brown was born July 27, 1961, in Crossville, the son of Bill and Syble Brown.
After receiving his teaching degree from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, he taught as a special education teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School for two years. He then moved to Houston, where he taught special education in the local school system while attending master's and doctorate classes at the University of Houston. He worked as a special education program director during the last four years. He was an active member of his home church, St. Paul's Methodist Church, in Houston.
Survivors include his father and mother, Bill and Syble Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and H.L. Turner; nephews and nieces, Jonathan and Shonda Miller, Zackery and Corey Miller, Christina Miller and Holly Turner; great-nephews and -nieces, Payton Miller, J.J. Roscoe E. "Bucky" Goodwin, 57, of Franklin, ME, passed away Oct. 6, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 10 at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home in Ellsworth, ME, with Ray Mosley officiating. Interment was in Bayview Cemetery in Franklin.
Mr. Goodwin was born Aug. 28, 1945, in Franklin, ME.
He was employed for several years at Hancock Foods in Ellsworth, ME. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, and served 4 1/2 years in the Navy aboard the USS Carp. He was a member of the Franklin Veterans Club for many years, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hoyt Goodwin of Franklin, ME; son and daughter-in-law, James and Tammie Goodwin of Crossville; granddaughter, Courtney Sue Goodwin of Crossville; aunts, Joann Goodwin of Franklin and Mildred Paradysz of Chicopee, MA; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen E. Card.

Raymond Reed

Raymond Reed, 91, of Grandview, TN, passed away Oct. 7, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 9 at Reed's Chapel Church of God in Grandview, with burial in Harris Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Haggard officiated, with special music by Teresa Hinch and Janie Holloway.
Mr. Reed was born May 2, 1911, in Cumberland County, the son of King David and Mamie Jewett Reed.
He was employed in the rock and stone business, and was a member of Reed's Chapel Church of God.
Survivors include his daughters, Cellie Rector and Pansy Waldo, both of Grandview, Bernice Carter of Decatur, TN, and Viola McCowan of Kingston, TN; brother, Virgil Reed of Grandview; sister, Caroline Sherrill of Grandview; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ludie Reed; brothers, Howard Reed and Carl Reed; and great-grandchildren, Brian Rector and Shelley Rector.

Donald Verble

Donald "Red" Verble, 60, of Monterey, TN, passed away Oct. 13, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with interment to follow in Ray Cemetery. Bro. Ken Mabry and the Rev. Randy Roberson will officiate.
Mr. Verble was born May 24, 1942, in Monterey, the son of Coleman Verble and Tim Lawson Verble Holloway.
He was a farmer and factory worker, and had worked with the Tennessee Central Railroad. He was a member of the Putnam County Horse Riders Association, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Nettie Davis Summers was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Cumberland County, TN, to Joe and Ellie Davis.
She graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy (high school) and obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.
She taught school in Cumberland County for several years before moving to Jacksonville, FL. She also taught in Orange Park, FL, where she lived at the time of her death. Her teaching career totaled more than 50 years.
She loved school and her students, being an important influence in their lives. She not only taught the lessons in their textbooks, but also things to help them through life - such as one former student said, "Nettie taught me how to set a table."
Nettie departed this life on Sept. 28, 2002, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Claude and Kermit Davis of Crossville; and sisters, Tressie Trady and Alma Ledbetter, both of Harriman, and Etta Koger of Albany, KY.
Survivors are her husband, Charles Summers; brothers, Kenneth Herman and Calvin Davis; sister, Hattie Reed of Harriman; many nieces and nephews; and special lifelong friend, Carlene Hedgecoth Elliott of Orange Park, FL.
She was laid to rest in Roane Memory Gardens, with a graveside service conducted by Bro. Charles Brown, on Oct. 2, 2002.

Donald E. Johnston Sr., 75, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2002. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis, MN, with burial to be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnston was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Charles Leslie and Almira Matson Johnston.
He owned Char-Gale Mfg. He started the company in Minneapolis, then opened Char-Gale Mfg. in Union City, TN. He graduated from Humbolt University, with a business degree.
Survivors include his sons, Donald E. Johnston Jr. of Summerfield, FL, Charles A. Johnston of Sanford, FL, and Larry W. Johnson of Pompano Beach, FL; and two grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Joyce Larson Johnston; and brothers, Duane R. Johnston and Leslie Johnston.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County or the American Cancer Society.

Howard Kelly Holbert, 85, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 22, 2002. Graveside services were conducted Oct. 23 at Crossville City Cemetery, with Pastor Russell Honeycutt officiating. The Veterans Honor Guard played "Taps," presented the American flag and gave a 21-gun salute.
Mr. Holbert was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Byrdstown, TN, the son of General Bolin "G.B." and Hattie Belle Richardson Holbert.
He was owner and manager of the old Teague Oil Service Station on Hwy. 70, and was a Seventh-day Adventist. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a life member and treasurer of Crossville Chapter 32 DAV.
Survivors include his nephews and nieces, James Bob Young, Joe A. Young, Muriel Young Smith Clarke, June Young Cooper, Martha Young Cole Shirley and Jane Young Whisnant, all of Crossville, Margaret Young of Kingston, TN, and Rosie Young Peterson of West Bloomfield, MI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Delmer Clyde Holbert; sister, Oma Lois Holbert Young; and nephews, Doyle Young, George Young, Orlie Young Jr. and Jerry Young.
Pallbearers were members of the Veterans Honor Guard.

Richard J. Molnar
May 4, 1933 - Oct. 23, 2002
Richard John Molnar, 69, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 23, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 25 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Crossville, with Presiding Overseer Veral VanWinkle officiating.
Mr. Molnar was born May 4, 1933, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of John and Anna Mae Biszaha Molnar.
He was an electrical contractor, and a veteran of the Korean War. He was presiding overseer of ministry of Jehovah's Witnesses, congregation of Sparta, and was also an elder of the congregation of Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Molnar of Sparta; children, Faith Molnar, Richard A. Molnar and Dawn Robinson, all of New Jersey, Gail Swift of Ohio, and Leah Koch of New York; sister, Lorraine Lloyd of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) research, in care of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta.

Beverly Jean Norris, 51, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 17, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Norris Cemetery in Antioch, TN. Bro. Thomas Hale officiated.
Mrs. Norris was born Nov. 4, 1950, in Elyria, OH, the daughter of William and Alice West Ross.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Norris and Tracy Morris, both of Crossville; son, Carson "Buddy" Norris of Crossville; grandson, David Anthony Morris of Crossville; half-brother, Billy Ross of Michigan; and half-sister, Cathy Ross of Michigan.

Rainey Roger Brown, 77, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 22, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Wade Webster officiating. Graveside services were held Oct. 25 at Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Derris and Ursie Sherrill Brown.
He was a carpenter, and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Asberry Brown of Crossville; and brother, Eddie Brown of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Belle Brown and Sula Mae Brown; and brothers, George Brown and Garfield Brown.

Della Marie Dunbar, 77, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 24, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 27 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial in Davis Cemetery. Thomas Hale Jr. officiated.
Mrs. Dunbar was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Crossville, the daughter of James Mike and Flora Mae Wyatt Burgess.
She retired as a housekeeper at Cumberland Medical Center.
Survivors include her sons, Roger Dunbar of Crossville and James Dunbar of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Crystal Dunbar of Crossville, and Darren, Darline and Kelsie, all of Huntsville; one great-grandson; sister, Rhoda Findley of Crossville; and ex-daughter-in-law, Jean Nash of Crossville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Clay Dunbar; children, Edward Dunbar and Shirley Dunbar; brother, Clarence Burgess; and sister, Trena Bell Thompson.

John Clemson Haynes, 82, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 21, 2002. No services are planned.
Mr. Haynes was born May 2, 1920, in Middlesboro, KY.
He was retired from General Motors, where he was a tool maker, and was of the Catholic faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Elmer Kuenzer of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Shirley Wood of Fairfield Glade; grandchildren, Michael, Darryl, Lynda, Lecia, Laurina, Rick, Ryan and Cirreenna; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine Elizabeth Day Haynes.

Mrs. Kaufmann was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Pleasant Hill, LA, the daughter of George and Margie Carter Largent. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Hwy. 127 South Senior Center.

Mrs. Keyes was born March 7, 1909, in Cumberland County, the daughter of "Lonnie" and Lou Elmore Tabor.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Emogene Keyes Teeple of Crossville; son, Columbus Wayne Keyes II of Crossville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Washington Keyes; son, Kenneth Gordon Keyes; and sister, Ethel Shillings.

Jeanne Alice Payton, 74, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 18, 2002. A memorial service was conducted Oct. 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Michael Sweeney and Deacon Mark Fredrick officiating. Special music was by Carol Papo and the St. Francis of Assisi choir; presentation of gifts by Mrs. Payton's daughter, Molly Payton Boarman, and son, Tom Payton; and family reflections by daughter, Patrice Payton, and son, Sean Payton.
Mrs. Payton was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Scranton, PA, the daughter of John and Eleanor Gallagher Burnette.
She was a homemaker, and of the Catholic faith. She attended Marywood College, and was active in numerous volunteer organizations throughout her life.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas Payton Jr. of Cape May, NJ, and Sean Payton of Wayne, NJ; daughters, Patrice Payton of Skokie, IL, and Molly Payton Boarman of San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Bridget Schaul and Meghan Payton; and grandson, Connor Payton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Payton, formerly of Scranton, PA.

Mr. Stewart was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Cerulean, KY, the son of Everett and Dimple Rogers Stewart.
He was a salesman of computer software, and a member of Trinity Tabernacle. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Simpson Stewart of Fairfield Glade; sons, Thomas D. Stewart Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Mark F. Stewart of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Anthony and Abigail; and brother, George E. Stewart of Easley, SC.

Mrs. Threet was born March 31, 1954, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Charlie and Willene Brewer Hale.
She was a secretary with Hale Appraisers, and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Mitch Threet of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Jule Bryson of Crossville; daughters, Charley Threet and Kalli Threet, both of Crossville; brothers, Sam and Ike Hale of Crossville; and granddaughter, Julie Brooke Bryson.

Mr. Wudyker was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Plymouth, MI, the son of Louis and Katherine Karamer Wudyka.
He was a member of Stoney Creek Methodist Church in Ypsilanti, MI.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Wudyker of Crossville; son, Robert Wudyker of Ypsilanti, MI; daughter, Jean Wudyker of Crossville; brother, Edward Wudyker of Michigan; grandchildren, B.J. Wudyker of Ypsilanti and Sherrie Pietras of Jacksonville, FL; and great-grandchildren, Anthony Pietras and Alyssa Pietras.

Mrs. Lewis was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Thomas Denton and Virginia Mae Phipps Cole.
She was a social worker for the Department of Children's Services and a member of Homestead Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kylo Lewis of Crossville; her mother, Virginia Cole of Crossville; a brother, Tom Cole of Sparta; and two sisters, Dinah Goodwin of Crossville and Iris Miracle of Athens, GA.
Pallbearers were Jon Goodwin, Greg Miracle, Doug Miracle, Kevin Miracle, Bryan Jordan and Charlie Cole.

Ms. Turner was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Crossville, the daughter of Brice E. "B.E." and Anna Dayton Caruthers.
She was employed by the City of Crossville, and was a member of Pomona United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Brenda Turner of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Amby and Lee Faulk of High Springs, FL; sisters, Fannie Martin and Lola Eldridge, both of Crossville; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Caruthers; and daughter, Sandra Cox.
