JEFFERY KIDD
Jeffery Kidd, 32, of Hamilton, OH, passed away Sept. 23, 2001. Graveside services were conducted Sept. 27 at Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.
Mr. Kidd was born Jan. 21, 1969, in Cincinnati, OH, the son of the Rev. Linden and Elizabeth Duncan Kidd.
He was employed by Pierre Foods and was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife, Joy A. Kidd of Hamilton; daughters, Kara Aubriann Kidd and Amber Rachelle Kidd, both of Hamilton; parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Linden Kidd of Oneida, TN; brother, Mark "Doug" Kidd of Hamilton; sisters, Angie Henson and Tammy Menda, both of Hamilton, and Melissa Chitwood of Oneida; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations for Mr. Kidd's children be sent to First National Bank Southwestern Ohio, 205 Cleveland Ave., Hamilton, OH 45013.

HARRY PUGH
Harry Pugh, 80, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 28 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial Sept. 29 in Hebbertsburg Cemetery. Danny Smith officiated.
Mr. Pugh was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Crossville, the son of William Andrew and Ida Lou Pugh.
He was a farmer, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Rita Martin of Crossville; sister, Aileen Caruthers of South Carolina; former wife, Alma Jean Wilson; grandchildren, Stacy Pugh, Sherry Pugh, Wayne Pugh, Andy Pugh, Kelly Martin Davis, Kandi Martin Newcome, Jamie Martin and Kenny Martin; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Lou Pugh; sons, Jerry Pugh and Ronald Pugh; brothers, Herthold Pugh, William Pugh, Walter Pugh, Howard Pugh and Ralph Pugh; sisters, Minnie Hedgecoth, Ellen Crowder, Mildred Guest, Dora Bradley and Edna Reynolds.

TERRY AUSTIN WATSON
Terry Austin Watson, 43, of Murfreesboro, passed away Sept. 23, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Watson Cemetery. Bro. Bill Roberts officiated, with a poem by Shelley Watson and special music by Danny Smith and Charlene Stone.
Mrs. Watson was born Jan. 7, 1958, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Venton and Pauline Edmonds Austin.
She was a claims adjustor for State Farm Insurance Company, and attended Belle-Aire Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Watson of Murfreesboro; daughter, Shelley Watson of Murfreesboro; sons, Tyler Watson and Dillon Watson, both of Murfreesboro; parents, Venton and Pauline Austin of Crossville; brothers, Stephen Austin and Brad Austin, both of Crossville; and sisters, Elaine Reynolds, Linda Oakes, Dana Olaechea and Lana Gentile, all of Crossville, and Sharon Brown of Cleveland, TN.
She was preceded in death by her brother, V.D. Austin.

FLETCHER ANDERSON
Fletcher Anderson, 64, of McMinnville, TN, passed away Oct. 2, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted today, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with interment in Smith Chapel Cemetery in Cumberland County. The Rev. Steve Looper will officiate, with special music by Mr. Anderson's nephew and nieces, The Randolphs.
Mr. Anderson was born June 28, 1934, in Glade Creek, TN, the son of Barlow and Mary Foust Anderson.
He was a member of Smith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Jewell Eldridge Anderson of Monterey; daughters, Glenda Bilbrey, Karen Latham, Janice Anderson and Rita Nugent, all of Monterey; sisters, Ruby Randolph of Smith Chapel, Selah McCormick of Caryville, TN, and Nina England of Anderson, IN; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Anderson, Vernon Anderson and Joseph Anderson.

JAMES WOODROW EVANS
James Woodrow Evans, 80, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 12, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated, with special music by the Pomona Gospel Aires.
Mr. Evans was born March 5, 1921, in Alvin, IL, the son of James Hayden and Loria Hicks Evans.
He was a battery inspector of General Motors, and a member of First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nova Cook Evans of Crossville; daughter, Wilma Lee Allred of Crossville; son, Wiley Ray Evans of Crossville; sisters, Dorothy Greer and Nadene Gunter, both of Byrdstown, TN; and granddaughter, Brenda Allred of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert H. Evans and Willard Evans.

MICHAEL EUGENE GOSS
Michael "Mike" Eugene Goss, 39, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 12, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Goss was born Feb. 8, 1962, in Cumberland County, the son of Robert Eugene and Marie Alta Turner Goss.
He was a roofer, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Paul Goss and Anthony Scott Goss, both of Sparta; mother and stepfather, Marie and Leo Binette of Crossville; brothers, Billy Lavern Goss, Lonnie Charles Goss and Gary Dana Goss, all of Crab Orchard; and sister, Patricia Marie White of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Goss.

CORA NORRIS STEVENS
Cora Norris Stevens, 90, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 14, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Delmer McCowan officiated, with special music by Betty Jo McCowan and Paul and Clella Phillips.
Mrs. Stevens was born Feb. 15, 1911, in Cumberland County, the daughter of John W. and Millie A. Warner Norris.
She was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith. Her family, friends and Wharton Nursing Home will miss her sweet voice and smile. She had a kind word for all.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Isiah Boatwright of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, William Bill and Ruth Stevens of Crossville; grandchildren, Tonya Floyd, Deonna Bass, William Christopher Stevens, David Garrison, Rick Vaughn, Rodney Collum, Teresa Collum, Merle Lewis and Helen Cook; great-grandchildren, Summer Stevens, Amber Stevens, Joshua Stevens, Cody Bass, Macey Collum, Tyler Collum, Melissia Fillingim, Bradley Vaughn, Kelli Taylor and Jennifer Palmer; and great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Baxter, Tyler Baxter, Morgan Fillingim, Baby Fillingim, T.J. Palmer and Lauren Palmer.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Findley Cole and William Stevens; son, Eugene Cole; grandson, Jack Vaughn; brothers, Walter Norris, Tom Norris, Andy Norris, John Norris, Pat Norris, Henry Norris and George Norris; and sister, Margaret Viola Burgess.

NELSON FOX
Nelson Fox, 81, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Oct. 18, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 20 from the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown, with burial in Allardt Cemetery. Bro. Doug Turner officiated.
Mr. Fox was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Detroit, MI, the son of Charles and Bessie Randall Fox.
He was a truck driver, retiring after 30 years. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and after leaving the Navy, he worked on the New York harbors as a tug boat captain. He was a member of Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Fairfield Glade Art Guild, and taught a stained glass art class for many years. He was a former member of the Fairfield Glade Lions Club, and was a former member of the Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Jo Crabtree Fox of Fairfield Glade; sons, Charles and Michael; daughters, Ann Marie, Linda, Anna Catherine and Victoria Lynn; grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, Nicole, Timmy, Jeremy, Jason, Luther, Elissa, Phillip and Erica; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Benjamin, Cheyenne, Samantha and Jonathon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Fox.

MARTHA JANE SELBY PARKER
Martha Jane "Sis" Selby Parker, 86, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 14, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 16 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Wilson Cemetery. The Rev. Carolyn Bingham and the Rev. George W. Long officiated.
Mrs. Parker was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Cumberland County, the daughter of John Sherman and Mamie Lou Wilson Selby.
She was a homemaker, and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Mamie Lou Cox of Crossville and Helen Walker of Muncie, IN; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Genella Sherrill; and son-in-law, Homer Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sherman and Mamie Lou Wilson Selby; husband, Clay Parker; son, Bud Sherrill; daugher, Laura Taylor; brothers, Arthur Selby and B.W. Selby; twin sister, Manza; and grandsons, Michael Wesley Walker and Ronnie Dean Cox.

ALVIE EDMUND PARSONS
Alvie Edmund "Ed" Parsons, 66, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 15, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Donnie Stewart and Bro. Monty Fritz officiated.
Mr. Parsons was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Cumberland County, the son of Hubert and Gladys Farris Parsons.
He was a carpenter, and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Navy between the Korean and Viet Nam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Brewer Parsons of Crossville; sons, Tony Parsons, Jeff Parsons, Scott Parsons and Jason Parsons, all of Crossville; daughter, Angel Ford of Crossville; sister, Bobbie Tollett of Crossville; brothers, Gene Parsons, Glenn Parsons, Donnie Parsons and David Parsons, all of Crossville; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Lee Parsons.

NORBERT HENRY SCHMIDT
Norbert Henry Schmidt, 90, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Oct. 8, 2001. A memorial service was held Oct. 17 at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Cecil McFarland and the Rev. Vern Daugherty officiating, and special music by the church choir and congregational singing.
Mr. Schmidt was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Chicago, IL, the son of Henry G. and Lena Mussmann Schmidt.
He retired to Cumberland County 19 years, coming here from Madison, Dane County, WI, where he served as director of emergency government during the period of student unrest at that time. He retired as a full colonel of ordinance in the U.S. Army, having obtained his military education at the Ordinance School, the Command and General Staff College, the Army Logistics Management School and the joint-services Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
His civilian education was obtained at NU during the Great Depression, earning his expenses working for a major international corporation. By the time of the United States' entry into World War II, he already had won a management position with that company, which he left to go on military dury as a first lieutenant of ordinance with the Army. He was assigned to an armored division and served in five major campaigns in Europe during the war, reaching the rank of major at its close.
After the war, he won a regular army appointment through competitive examinations. Post-war military assignments included special duty service in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. At the time of his retirement, he was serving on the staff of the deputy chief of staff for logistics in the Pentagon.
Civilian business experience both before and after military service included managerial assignments with a major international corporation, including work in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
His writings on contemporary life in the United States have won him national recognition and an award from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.
Mr. Schmidt was a member of First Congregational Church of Crossville, which he had served as moderator and chairman of the board of trustees.
Survivors include his nephew, William Schmidt of East Lansing, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Craig Schmidt.

JEANETTE BYER
Jeanette Byer, 68, of New Lebanon, OH, formerly of Crossville, passed away Oct. 20, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Hedgecoth Cemetery. Bro. Billy Smith officiated.
Mrs. Byer was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Garfield W. Sr. and Alta Louise Young Hedgecoth.
She was a factory worker for General Motors, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice Hedgecoth, Ester Tollett, Genese Hale, Katherine and Paul Justice, Kaye and David Shillings, and Faye and Lamar Green, all of Crossville, and Joyce and Vaughn Parker of Memphis, TN; brothers and sister-in-law, Garfield Jr. and Margaret Hedgecoth of Harriman, TN, and Jimmy Ray Hedgecoth of Crossville; and good friends, Harold and Joyce Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garfield Sr. and Alta Louise Hedgecoth; husband, Clifford "Sonny" Byer; and sister, Reba Winningham.

EMILY THELMA EDMONDS
Emily Thelma Edmonds, 90, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 19, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Rudy Oakes officiating, and special music by Dexter Smith. Graveside committal was held Oct. 21 at Akins Cemetery.
Mrs. Edmonds was born April 2, 1911, in White County, TN, the daughter of Will and Flora Broom Grissom.
She was a teacher, and a member of Winesap Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Margaret Petry of Crossville and Willa Mae Jarrell of Bradford, PA; and niece, Jean Stone of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ebbie Edmonds; and sister, Ruth Liston.

PHILLIP ALLEN KECK I
Phillip Allen Keck I, 44, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 19, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Baker's Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Keck's cousin, Bro. Glen Franklin, officiated.
Mr. Keck was born Sept. 4, 1957, in Cumberland County, the son of Frank E. and Patsy Elmore Keck.
He was a video colorist, engineer and technical supervisor, and received certification from Tennessee Technological Center as an electronic engineer.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Smith Keck of Nashville; mother, Patsy Keck of Crossville; sons, Phillip Allen Keck II of Crossville, and Michael William Keck and Nikolas Alexander Keck, both of Knoxville; sisters and brother-in-law, Donna Keck of Crossville and Linda and Dan Doss of Houston, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Keck, Tony and Peggy Keck, Kenny and Kathy Keck, Randy and Abbie Keck and Ronnie Keck, all of Crossville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many friends in the video broadcast business.

LARRY KELLEY
Larry Kelley, 54, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 17, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 21 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Rowan officiating.
Mr. Kelley was born March 17, 1947, in Grantsville, WV.
He was a machine operator for Delbar Tool, and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Kelley of Taylor, MI, and Larry K. Kelley Jr. of Detroit, MI; sisters, Garnet Marie Barr and Betty Jo Craddock, both of West Virginia, Kate Wease of Michigan and Donna Bower of Milford, MI; and brother, Gerald Dewayne Kelley of West Virginia.

RAYMOND LOUIS LOOPER

Mr. Looper was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Cumberland County, the son of Duvall Anderson and Rettaphene Brown Looper.

ERNEST F. MAHANEY
Ernest F. Mahaney, 71, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 21, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 23 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with the Rev. Billy Smith officiating. The VFW Post 6277 Honor Guard served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Mahaney was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Jackson, TN, the son of J.T. and Willie Marie Pippins Mahaney.
He worked in civil service, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Mahaney; daughters, Iris Theresa Mahaney and Jacquelyn Courtney; sister, Charlotte Smith; brothers, Estes Mahaney, David Mahaney, James Mahaney and Everett Mahaney; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Mahaney; mother, Willie Marie Pippins Mahaney; one brother; and one sister.

MARY AGNES BECKMAN MAXWELL

Ms. Maxwell was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Overton County, TN.
She was a homemaker.

Larry Franklin Turner, 64, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 16, 2001. Private family services were held Oct. 18, with burial in Turner Cemetery.
Mr. Turner was born Sept. 28, 1937, in Cumberland County, the son of Frank and Ruth Payne Turner.
He was an attorney, and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his sons, Jake Turner of San Diego, CA, and Mike Turner of Los Angeles, CA; and sister, Terry Lynn Vierick of Houston, TX.

BILLY RANDALL WHITTENBURG
Billy Randall Whittenburg, 67, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away Oct. 15, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Fredonia Cemetery. Bro. Joey Whittenburg officiated.
Mr. Whittenburg was born Feb. 7, 1934, in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Homer and Dora Gunter Whittenburg.
He was an auto worker for General Motors, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Greta Cox Whittenburg of Cincinnati; son and daughter-in-law, John Whittenburg and Agnes Suranyi of Cincinnati; brothers, Lowell Whittenburg, James Whittenburg and Norbert Whittenburg, all of Crossville; and sister, Betty Sue Baisley of Crossville.

James Franklin Gunter, 67, of Grandview, TN, passed away Oct. 8, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 11 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Phil Jenkins officiated, with special words by Mr. Gunter's son-in-law, Tony Tomanek.
Mr. Gunter was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Cumberland County, the son of Charlie Gidd and Ada Smith Gunter.
He retired after 20 years as a laborer with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Gunter of Grandview; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tony Tomanek of Avon Lake, OH, and Debbie Gunter, Jamie and Steve Hill, and Kim and Jerry Harris, all of Crossville; sisters, Charlene Gunter of Crossville and Grace Galyon of Dickson, TN; stepsons, Kevin Bridgett and Kent Bridgett, both of Norwalk, OH; stepdaughters, Lavonne Cox of Grandview and Christine Wyant of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Travis Tomanek, Chris Tomanek, Josh Harris, Tori Harris, Ali Harris, Parker Hill and Peyten Hill; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Gidd and Ada V. Smith Gunter; and brother, Walter "Keith" Gunter.

Ms. Teeple was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Bolestown, TN, the daughter of Edmond and Nancy Teeple.

He was a video colorist, engineer and technical supervisor, and received certification from Tennessee Technological Center as an electronic engineer.

CLARENCE EUGENE HAMBY
Died Oct. 30, 2001
Clarence Eugene (Jim) Hamby, age 70, of Eureka Rd., Rockwood, died Oct. 30, 2001, in his home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, Rev. Charles Liles officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors by the Roane Volunteer Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 1, from 6-8 p.m. EST at Evans Mortuary with Masonic services at 8 p.m. in the Chapel.
Mr. Hamby was a stone mason with Turner Bros. of Crossville, worked for TVA and Phillips Metals, formerly Rockwood Iron and Metal, from which he retired. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Asbury Chapel Methodist Church and Crossville Masonic Lodge No. 483.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Jeannetta Kemmer Hamby of Rockwood; daughters and son-in-laws Deborah Ann and Gary Beeler and Dana Jean and David Kirkland, all of Rockwood, and Donna Kay Wade of Seymour; grandchildren Misty Nelson and husband, Brent, Barret McBay and wife, Angie, Jeremy McBay and wife, Mindy, Britney Brock, Jessica McBay, Michael Kirkland, Cameron Wade, Storm Beeler and Dalton Kirkland; and great-grandchildren Tyler Chase McBay, Tristan Bailey McBay, Kay Lee McBay and Rhett Nelson.

William Humphrey, 80, of Crossville, died Oct. 22, 2001. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church on Lantana Rd., Rev. Cecil McFarland officiating.
He was born in Shawnee, OH, the son of William Thomas and Stell Stoyle Humphrey, on Nov. 8, 1920.
Mr. Humphrey was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired milkman with Bordens Milk Co.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Humphrey of Crossville; daughters Rebecca Kilpatrick of Columbus, OH, and Beth Wahenmaier of Albuquerque, NM; sons William Humphrey Jr. of Columbus, OH, and John Humphrey of Sugar Grove, OH; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Marylou Allen of Loundon, KY, and Terry Greer of Lexington, KY; and two step-sons, Robert Ramsey and Kenneth Ramsey of Loundon, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was born Jan. 15, 1930 in Cumberland County, the son of James and Millie Smith Stone.
Mr. Stone was a U.S. Army veteran and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Stone; brother Robert Stone; and sisters Mary Lou Woody, Marie Fields, Pearl Selby and Eliza Fields, all of Cumberland County.
