THELMA CHRISTINE BARNWELL HALL
Thelma Christine Barnwell Hall, 57, of Crossville, passed away May 10, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 12 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. Paul Lee officiated.
Ms. Barnwell was born Feb. 6, 1944, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Arthur and Georgia Barnwell.
She was an operator at Roselon Southern Division of Roselon Industries. Survivors include her son, Thomas N. Johnson of Crossville; daughters, Felicia W. Ward of Crossville, Terri Lynn Bohannon of Dalton, GA, and Sherri Norris of Ringgold, GA; brothers, Gilbert Barnwell, Paul Barnwell, John Barnwell and Ervin Barnwell, all of Crossville, and Floyd Barnwell of Nieota, TN; sisters, Eulenice Campbell, Bertha Benson and Debbie Myers, all of Crossville; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Georgia Barnwell; brother, Billie Barnwell; and sisters, Lennis Potter, Elsie Miller, Mary Barnwell and Ella Mae Hughes.
Pallbearers were Christopher Harrison, Jonathan Harrison, Kenny Norris, Mitch Myers, John Edd Barnwell and Norman Benson.

AMANDA KAY BOUTON
Amanda Kay Bouton, 20, of McMinnville, TN, passed away May 21, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 24 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home, with interment in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Colman of Unity Lighthouse Church in Crossville officiated.
Ms. Bouton was born Oct. 3, 1980, in Dearborn, MI, the daughter of the late Jerrell Wayne Sr. and Donna Kay Grisham Jackson.
She was a 1998 graduate of Cumberland County High School.
Survivors include her sisters, April Oaks and Angel Jackson, and brothers, Jason Jackson and Jerrell Jackson Jr., all of Crossville.
Pallbearers were friends of Ms. Bouton.

WILMA JEAN BOWMAN
Wilma Jean Bowman, 63, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 26, 2001. Memorial services were conducted May 29 at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Turner officiating.
Mrs. Bowman was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Middletown, OH, the daughter of Wilbur James Sr. and Eula Fletcher Hammock.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Bowman of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Diana Lynn Borm of Memphis; sons, Robert "Joe" Bowman of Mission Viejo, CA, and Chris Bowman of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Wilbur J. Hammock Jr. of Springboro, OH, and Robert C. Hammock of Brookville, OH; and two grandchildren, Clint Borm and Brett Borm.

Jeanette Deloris Burke, 70, of Crossville, passed away May 24, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bro. Wayne Matthews officiated.
Ms. Burke was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Sam Sr. and Rachel Woody Burke.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Burke of Cincinnati; and brother, Sam Burke of Crossville.

KATHLEEN LODEN HALL
Kathleen Loden Hall, 63, of Crossville, passed away May 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 29 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, TN. Graveside services and interment will be today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. in Ozone Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Rockwood, the daughter of Harry and Molly Youngblood.
She was a member of Ozone Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Fay and Curtis Boles of Smyrna, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Dean and Pamela Loden, and Ricky Eugene and Lisa Loden, all of Rockwood; sister, Carolyn Luttrell of Rockwood; brothers, Ralph Youngblood of Biloxi, MS, Frank Youngblood of Rockwood and Wilson Youngblood of Eureka, GA; grandchildren, Robert Allen Steele, Rebekah Leane Loden, Nicholas Alexander Loden and Justin Keith Loden; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Savannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Molly Youngblood; husbands, Bud A. Loden and John Hall; sisters, Geraldine Henry and Irene Lingo; and brothers, Mac Youngblood and Alvin Youngblood.

ELMER HOWARD
Elmer Howard, 87, of Mayland, passed away May 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 29 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, TN, with burial in Welch Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Tommy Clark officiated.
Mr. Howard was born Dec. 26, 1913, in the Columbia Hill community, Overton County, TN, the son of Leonard and Sarah Jane Phillips Howard.
He was a retired factory worker, farmer and a 1933 Monterey High School graduate.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Potter of Crossville; son, Roger Howard of Crossville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hall Howard; daughter, Barbara Ireland; sisters, Winifred Hackney and Elise Lathram; and brother, Carson Howard.

EARLENE McCLOUD
Earlene McCloud, 40, of Monterey, TN, passed away May 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 28 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with interment in Welch Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. David Harris and the Rev. J.C. Hood officiated.
Mrs. McCloud was born March 23, 1961, in Monterey, the daughter of George Earl and Lula Bilbrey Reeves.
She was a factory worker.
Survivors include her sons, Eddie McCloud and Jeffery McCloud, both of Monterey; sisters, Dimple Reeves and Lucille Looper, both of Monterey, Anna Guffey of Hanging Limb and Ellen Allen of Crossville; and brothers, Carl Reeves and Doyle Reeves, both of Monterey.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Bilbrey and James Reeves.

JOHN R. NOLAND
John R. Noland, 54, of Nashville, TN, passed away May 18, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 21 from the Hickory Chapel of Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville, with the Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Interment was in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Noland was born July 11, 1946, in Crossville.
He was a stone mason.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Noland; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Debbie Noland, David and Tracey Noland, and John and Lori Noland; mother, Delsie Noland; sisters, Linda Quigg and Terri Goodwin; and seven grandchildren.

ELSIE LELAND NUGENT
Elsie Leland Nugent, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 29 from Schrewbury General Baptist Church in Schrewbury, KY, with burial in Leitchfield Memorial Gardens in Leitchfield, KY. The Rev. Rudd Kerr officiated.
Mrs. Nugent was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of Rigg and Lillie Nash.
She was a school teacher.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Durbin of Kennesaw, GA; brother, Erett Nash of Leitchfield; granddaughters, Jamie Durbin of Cairo, Egypt, and Dionna Henry of Tucker, GA; grandson, Douglas Todd Durbin of Atlanta, GA; and great-granddaughter, Sydney Tate Henry of Tucker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rigg and Lillie Nash; and her husband, Denton Nugent.
Pallbearers were members of Mrs. Nugent's family and church members.

SHERMAN V. STAMPS
Sherman V. "Vestal" Stamps, 75, of Orange Park, FL, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 8, 2001. Memorial services were held April 14 at First United Methodist Church in Green Cove Springs, FL, with the Rev. Rick Young officiating.
Mr. Stamps' ashes will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery on June 8, 2001.
Mr. Stamps was born in Crossville, the son of Ervin and Sarah Elmore Stamps.
He was a resident of Clay County, FL, since 1959, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Green Cove Springs. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1973 after 26 years of service. He saw action in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with combat "V." After his military retirement, he was an instructor with the NJROTC at Clay County High School for 10 years, and was a substitute teacher with Clay County schools until 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mayrelou Stamps; daughters and sons-in-law, Donita Rhea, Vanessa Yvonne and Christopher, Gretchen Dawn, Tara Gabrielle and Robert; brothers, Delbert Stamps, Cecil Stamps and Junior Stamps; sisters, Nola Sells, Betty Stephan and Ruth Martin; grandchildren, Julia Young, Madeleine Young, Eric Young, Kate Linehart, Andrew Linehart and Olivia Linehart; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Sarah Elmore Stamps.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4030 Boulevard Center Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32207.

Lozena Tollett Swafford, 79, of Pikeville, TN, passed away May 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 29 from the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home, with burial in Worthington Cemetery. Minister Paul Cagle and the Rev. Doyle Ashburn officiated.
Mrs. Swafford was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Cumberland County.
She was a member of Red Hill Church of Christ, and had lived in Bledsoe County for 60 years.
Survivors include her son, Ted Swafford of Crossville; daughters, Linda Long of Dunlap, TN, and Shirley Arnold of Dayton, TN; brothers, Willard Tollett of Pikeville and Gene Tollett of Crossville; sister, Genese Hamilton of Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.A. Swafford Jr.; brothers, Jack Tollett and Mitchell Pennington; and a sister, Myrtle Hyder.

RAYMOND ALBERT WOODY
Raymond Albert Woody, 74, of Crossville, passed away May 27, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 31, at 10 a.m. from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Crossville, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Johnny Goldston will officiate.
Visitation will be tonight, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 at Bilbrey Funeral Home.
Mr. Woody was born March 29, 1927, in Sweetwater, TN, the son of George Oscar "G.O." and Hazel Crabtree Woody.
He was a machinist for Martin Marietta K-25, and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Leach Woody of Crossville; daughter, Brenda Smith of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dale Walker of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sonja Woody of Fairborne, OH, and Larry and Wanda Woody of Dayton, OH; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, G.O. and Hazel Woody; brother, Edward Woody; and son-in-law, Terry Smith.
Pallbearers were Wayne Woody, Will Woody, Tim Mackie, Jeremy Leach, Josh Leach, Tom McMahon, Dewey Gordon and Lewis Tilley.

BEECHER S. SCOTT
Beecher S. Scott, 89, of Crossville, passed away May 20, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 23 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Eastland Cemetery. Pastor Wayne Markham officiated.
Mr. Scott was born June 18, 1911, in White County, TN, the son of Samuel and Amanda Prater Scott.
He was a retired merchant, and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister, Lorene Rogers of Flowery Branch, GA; stepdaughters, Mary Lou Cash of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Bonnie Stone and Margaret Reagan, both of Crossville; stepsons, Bob Copeland of Doyle, TN, and Other Copeland of Indiana; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Scott; and his parents, Samuel and Amanda Prater Scott.

MARTHENA WAAG
Marthena Waag, 87, of Danville, CA, formerly of Crossville, passed away May 23, 2001. Graveside services were conducted May 26 at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, OH.
Mrs. Waag was born Dec. 31, 1913.
She was a retired 30-year employee of <I>McCall<I> magazine in Dayton, OH, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a 13-year resident of Crossville and a longtime volunteer at Cumberland Medical Center. Her interests and hobbies included sewing, reading and Bible study.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Cathy Waag of Danville, CA; daughter, Karen Waag of Canyon Country, CA; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Matthew and Adriana of Pasadena, CA; and granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kacie and Steve of Sacramento, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald A. Waag.

Charles "Chuck" Martin Gantzer, 57, of Monterey, TN, passed away May 23, 2001. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Cookeville.
Mr. Gantzer was born Sept. 1, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, the son of Floyd and Helen Fritz Gantzer.
He was a mechanical engineer for Scientific Instruments in West Palm Beach, FL, and a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Gantzer of Monterey; daughter, Jennifer Gantzer of Tampa, FL; sons, Paul Gantzer of Shawsville, VA, Douglas Ganzter of North Tonawanda, NY, and Christopher Clark of Cumming, GA: father, Floyd Gantzer of Port Charlotte, FL; brother, James Gantzer of Port Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Blaylock was born June 18, 1923, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Jessie Pleasant Smith.

Vernia Dunbar, 92, of Crossville, passed away May 18, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Russell Honeycutt officiated.
Mrs. Dunbar was born Aug. 10, 1908, in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of Virgil and Martha Turner Cordell.
She was a clerk at Ward's Department Store, and a member of Homestead United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sister, Edith Dodson of Crossville; granddaughter, Sue Blaylock of Crossville; grandsons, Robin Jernigan and Charlie Bowman, both of Crossville; sons-in-law, Ray Jernigan and Ed Bowman, both of Crossville; and niece, Mary Cooper of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmack Dunbar; son, Bobby Dunbar; and daughters, Mary Jernigan and Betty Bowman.

RUTH FORREST ELSHERE
Ruth Forrest Elshere, 92, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 22, 2001. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. The Rev. Russell Honeycutt will officiate.
Visitation will be May 27 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Elshere was born July 18, 1908, in Rapid City, SD, the daughter of Charles and Lena Trotter Forrest.
She was employed as a theater organist during the silent movies era, and she continued her organ playing at various churches in California. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed many hobbies, including crafts and quilting.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Marie Elshere of Upland, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and George Michalson of Fairfield Glade; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jess and Sandra Elshere of Houston, TX; grandsons, Jon David Elshere of Chicago, IL, and Rick Michalson of North Olmstead, OH; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Pamela and Curt Vonderreith of McLean, VA; eight great-grandchildren, Greg Vonderreith, Eric Vonderreith and Kara Vonderreith, all of McLean, Amanda Michaelson, Angela Michalson and Kimberly Michalson, all of North Olmstead, and Rose Garcia and Bianca Garcia, both of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Helen Parson of Philip, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Donald Elshere; brothers, Jack Forrest, Robert Forrest and Mick Forrest; and granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Sandra Michalson Agee and H.G. Agee.

H. ETTA KING
H. Etta King, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, MI, formerly of Crossville, passed away May 20, 2001. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, May 25, at 1 p.m. at Rutherford Cemetery in Rutherford, TN.
Mrs. King was born May 30, 1909, in Yorkville, TN, the daughter of Samuel P. and Jesse Wyatt McKnight.
She was employed by Sears in Lansing, MI, as a cashier for many years, before retiring to Crossville in 1975 with her husband, Austin B. King.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Patricia King of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lorrie and Gary Dunlap of Rosebush, MI; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Joel and Kathy King of Mt. Pleasant, James and Dawn King of Weidman, MI, Timothy and Catherine King of Fort Knox, KY, and Kevin and Stacy King of Weidman, MI; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin B. King, three sisters and two brothers.

ANNA LEE ALLEY
Anna Lee Alley, 92, of Crab Orchard, passed away May 15, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Bro. Danny Smith and Dr. Starling K. Alley Jr. officiated, with the eulogy by Mrs. Alley's sons, Kess and Ken, and special music by Paul Tracy and Ray Johnson.
Graveside committal was May 17 at Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Alley was born June 20, 1908, in Delmer, KY, the daughter of Ezekial and Eathel Burton.
She was a homemaker, and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her sons, Dr. Starling K. Alley Jr. of Arizona and Col. Kenneth M. Mr. Barnett was born Sept. 18, 1913, in Cumberland County, the son of Horace Bale and Lena Justice Barnett.

Harvey "Mickey" Bradam, 66, of Mayland, passed away May 19, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted today, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, TN, with burial to follow in Sand Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Tommy Clark will officiate.

Mr. Bradam was born May 21, 1934, in Dayton, OH, the son of Green Bery and Callie Dee Welch Bradam.
He was a cook, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Garcia was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Ithaca, NY, the son of Louis Ceriaco and Dorothea Ida Meyer Garcia.
He was a retired printer with 43 years of service to Wilcox Press Inc. He was a deacon and choir member at Fairfield Evangelical Free Church, and was an avid golfer.

Gaynol O. Looper, 84, of Monterey, TN, passed away May 17, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 20 from Monterey United Methodist Church, with burial in Whittaker Cemetery. Dr. Martin Thielen officiated.
Mr. Looper was born July 4, 1916, in Monterey, the son of John Burr and Zora Thompson Looper.
He was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church, where he served in various positions including Sunday school teacher, volunteer in missions and in the Men's Club and was a member of the Bell Ringers class. He was a member of the Monterey Masonic Lodge No. 751 and the Monterey Civitan Club, and he served several terms as an alderman for the City of Monterey. He helped start the Monterey Dixie Youth Baseball League in 1962, and served on the Putnam County Equalization Board for 22 years, which included 12 years as chairman of that board.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Pettit Looper of Monterey; daughters, Pam Dunn of Athens, AL, and Gay Lindsey of North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Theresa Looper of Monterey; and grandchildren, Melanie Lindsey, Jacob Lindsey, John Looper, David Looper, Chris Looper and Sara Bojie.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, April Lindsey and Tara Dunn; and three brothers, Doyle Looper, Ralph Looper and John Burr Looper Jr.

He was a state park ranger at Cumberland Mountain State Park, and was a member of Tollet's Chapel Methodist Church.

SAM HUGHES
Samuel Jaudon Hughes, 65, of the Pomona community, passed away May 8, 2001 at Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were held May 11 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with burial in Pomona Cemetery, Rev. Robert Dodson officiating.
He was born May 16, 1935 in Cumberland County, the son of Hollis Lee and Ollie Anderson Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a retired postman with 24 years of service to the community. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and served in the U.S. Air Force and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lena Louise Tolbert Hughes; daughters and son-in-laws Carolee and Willie Threet and Karen and Mike Leeds of the Vandever community; Jaudonna and Michael Renk of Sevierville, TN; and Sarah and Louie Clements of Sampson, AL; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Donna Quarles of Crossville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two uncles, Dallas and Harold Hughes of Crossville.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Ollie Hughes, and an infant sister.

JOHN ED MULLINAX
John Ed Mullinax, 74, of Crab Orchard, passed away May 5, 2001. Funeral services were held May 8 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Davenport officiating. There was also a Masonic service and Shriner Guard. Grave committal was held May 9 at Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Mullinax was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Cumberland County, the son of Franklin McDow and Vada Louisa Pennicuff Mullinax. He was superintendent of Dayton Materials Asphalt and Tennessee Asphalt before retiring in 1991.
He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Navy in 1945. Mr. Mullinax served on the Democratic Committee, was alderman and then mayor of Crab Orchard for several years. He was a Shriner and involved in the community, especially in support of senior citizens, Head Start, Crab Orchard Recreational Park and Crab Orchard Cyclone ball team.
He is survived by his wife, Darlena Welch Mullinax of Crab Orchard; son Jeff W. Mullinax of Crab Orchard; daughters Loretta Davenport, Joetta Monday and Lisa Bilbrey, all of Crab Orchard; Brenda Phillips, Kathy Alderman and Sandra Mullinax, all of Crossville; and Daphne Harvey of Pikeville, TN; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruby Hassler, Illine Rose and Dixie Hood, all of Crab Orchard; and brothers Kenneth Mullinax and Clyde Mullinax, both of Crab Orchard; Steve Mullinax of Crossville; and Billy Joe Mullinax of Virginia Beach, VA.
Mr. Mullinax was preceded in death by a son, John Leonard Mullinax; and brother, Grady Eugene Mullinax.

Vernon D. Payne, 78, of Crossville, died May 11, 2001, at the Methodist Medial Center in Oak Ridge, TN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at the Schubert Funeral Home Chapel in Sunbright, TN, with Rev. David Morgan and Rev. Johnny Reeves officiating.
Interment will be in the Union Grove Cemetery in Sunbright.
Mr. Payne was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Scott County and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his special caring niece and nephew, Dee and Claude Abston of Crossville; great-nieces Crystal Freeman and Rhonda Swallows, both of Crossville; son Donald Payne of California; daughter, Linda Younger of Kentucky; sister, Stella Hegedus of Michigan; and brother, Lincoln Payne of Sunbright; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Foster was born Nov. 22, 1967, in Bartow, FL.

William D. McAnanly, 68, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 5, 2001. A memorial service was held May 8 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with interment in the St. Francis Church Columbarium. Father Gregory Boisvert officiated at the ceremony.
Mr. McAnanly was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Camden, NJ.
He graduated from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He was employed as a manager in the finance and accounting departments of AT&T for 34 years before retiring to Fairfield Glade in 1993. He was a member of the Fairfield Glade Lions Club and the AT&T Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Denise McAnanly of Fairfield Glade; son and daughter-in-law, James Francis and Glee McAnanly of Stonington, CT; daughter, Jeanne-Marie McAnanly of New Rochelle, NY; and sister, Joan Hopke of Norristown, PA.

Thelma Landrem, 92, of Crossville, passed away May 5, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 6 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Odell Kirby officiated, with special music by Julia Burgess.
Mrs. Landrem was born Feb. 7, 1909, in Greenway, AR, the daughter of Mac Daniel and Effie Baldwin Davis.
She was a homemaker, and a member of West Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Harris of Crossville; sons, Wayne Landrem of Sparta, TN, and Larry Landrem of Centre, AL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Wilma Burgess.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Wilten Landrem; a daughter, Julia Landrem; and a son, Jerry Landrem.
Pallbearers were Jeff Harris, Horace Burgess, Gary Landrem and Joe Eller.

ELIZABETH CAMERON SEELY
Elizabeth Cameron Seely, 76, of Pleasant Hill, passed away April 30, 2001. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Community United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Seely was born March 10, 1925, in New Jersey.
She was raised in New Rochelle, NY, and earned her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in 1947, before serving as a missionary in China for three years. She continued her education at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary.
A lifelong community and church volunteer, Mrs. Seely was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Community United Church of Christ, Uplands Retirement Village and the Pleasant Hill community since moving there in 1984. She worked closely with the Pleasant Hill Historical Society of the Cumberlands. She was also an able musician, an avid game player and an enthusiastic explorer and defender of the outdoors.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Seely of Pleasant Hill; children, David, Anne, Margaret, Peter and Jim; sister, Marjorie MacLeay of Colorado; brother, Edward Cameron of North Carolina; and 11 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation campaign to purchase and preserve a portion of Black Mountain.

Paul Arthur Garcia, 71, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 3, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 6 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor David Evangelista and the Rev. David M.M. Ribeiro officiated.
Mr. Garcia was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Ithaca, NY, the son of Louis Ceriaco and Dorothea Ida Meyer Garcia.
He was a retired printer with 43 years of service to Wilcox Press Inc. He was a deacon and choir member at Fairfield Evangelical Free Church, and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marjorie Miller Garcia of Fairfield Glade; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Lee of Wilmington, DE, Janet Marie Garcia of Chattanooga, Paula and Carson Caudill of Monterey, and Cynthia Ann and Brian Buckley of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Paul and Nancy Garcia of Greenwood, IN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis H. and Betty Garcia of Ithaca, and Richard C. and Jackie Garcia of Fairfield Glade; grandchildren, Paul David Garcia Ribeiro, Rebecca Sue Garcia Ribeiro, Margie Anne Comanda, Rachel Lee Garcia Ribeiro, Julie Grace Garcia Ribeiro, Joshua Joseph Ribeiro, Andrew Mark Ribeiro, Joshua Paul Garcia, David James Garcia, Zachary Michael Garcia and Lee Caudill; and one great-grandson, Eliot Raymond Ribeiro Comanda.

Myrtle Cornelia "Connie" Gentry, 82, of Crossville, passed away May 5, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 7 from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville, TN, with burial in West Cemetery in Putnam County, TN. Bro. Jack Gentry and the Rev. Carl Olin officiated.
Mrs. Gentry was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Henderson County, TN, the daughter of Arthur and Maude Carnell.
She was a retired cosmetologist, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Truman Gentry of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Susan Perry of Royal Oak, MI; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Ron Walden of Crossville, and Paulina and George Curtis of Jamestown, TN; stepson, Wayne Gentry of Ohio; grandchildren, Steven Olexa, Douglas Walden, Herman Little, William Little, Steven, Shelby, Katlyn, Brandon, Ashley, Chris, Desteny, Joshua and an infant granddaughter; stepgrandchildren, Sarah, Jacob and Joshua Gentry; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Maude Carnell; her first husband, Nathan C. Perry; two brothers; and two sisters.

SYLVIA W. De BOALT
Sylvia W. De Boalt, 65, of Fairfield Glade, passed away April 21, 2001. A memorial service was conducted May 1 at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chris Haynes officiating.
Mrs. De Boalt was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Wenatchee, WA, the daughter of Donald B. and Estelle M. West.
She attended H.R. Ellison Grade School and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1953, where she was president of the National Honor Society. She attended Washington State University until 1956, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
In 1957 she married Dan De Boalt and together they lived in three foreign countries and eight locations in the United States. While living in Wales, United Kingdom, she attended the Royal Ballet at the invitation of the queen. She was one of the last Americans to travel to Berlin overland through East Germany, before travel restrictions were imposed by the USSR after World War II.
She worked as a travel agent and administrative assistant, and was of the Methodist faith. She was an associate member of AAUW and a member of the Maryville Ballet Company. She traveled extensively, and retired to Fairfield Glade with her husband in 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel F. De Boalt of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Katherine D. Stulb of Houston, TX; son, Stephen De Boalt of Birmingham, AL; father, Donald B. West of Wenatchee; brother, Robert M. West of East Wenatchee, WA; and grandson, Mathew De Boalt of Birmingham.

LAWRENCE HOWERTON
Lawrence Howerton, 76, of Crossville, passed away April 29, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 2 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bill Debusk officiated.
Mr. Howerton was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Knox County, TN, the son of Brownlow and Catherine Howerton.
He was a job estimator. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of VFW Post No. 6277.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Howerton of Crossville; daughter, Kay Howerton of Knoxville; son, Russell Howerton of Knoxville; and stepdaughters, Debbie McCroskey of Knoxville and Sandra Wooten of Anchorage, AK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brownlow and Catherine Howerton; and a daughter, Judy Howerton.

Daniel Rector, 69, of Crossville, passed away April 29, 2001. Funeral services were conducted May 2 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Omer Lawson officiated.
Mr. Rector was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Cumberland County, the son of Charlie and Sallie Wyatt Rector.
He was a retired technical sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Tabor Rector of Crossville; brother, Charles M. Rector of Crossville; sisters, Sylvia Conley and Lillian Thompson, both of Crossville; four nieces; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Sallie Rector; and two brothers, Frank Rector and Harlan Rector.
Pallbearers were Tommy Thompson, Van Thompson, Chuck Rector, Ronald Rector, David Griffith and Frank Miller.

Mrs. McAlvey was born June 27, 1937, in Saginaw, MI, the daughter of Howard and Lena Seymore Rathburn.
She was an account clerk for Michigan State University, and a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church and the Fairfield Glade Lions Club.
Survivors include her husband, Warren McAlvey of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Julie McAlvey of Tampa, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Barry Bunch of Mason, MI; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina McAlvey of Lansing, MI; sister, Lorraine Stevenson of Clare, MI; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ray Padgett, 75, of Livingston, TN, passed away May 1, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 3, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston, with burial in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Terry McCloud and the Rev. Clayton Padgett will officiate.
Mr. Padgett was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Overton County, TN, the son of Millard and Ada Williams Padgett.
He was a used car dealer, and a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Ms. Bilbrey was born July 28, 1917, in Crossville, the daughter of Robert and Jennie Tilley.
She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jennie Tilley; and two brothers, Lester Tilley and Charlie Tilley.

RAYBURN FREY
Rayburn "Red" Frey, 75, of Fairfield Glade, passed away April 24, 2001. Funeral services were conducted April 28 from Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, IL, with interment at Mound Grove in Kankakee, IL.
Mr. Frey was born April 18, 1926, in Nashville, TN.
He was director of the auditing department and international representative for the United Auto Workers in Detroit, MI, and was active in local Democratic politics in Kankakee and Menteno, IL, serving as president of the Young Democrats.
He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Nunley of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughters-in-law, William Rayburn and Carol Frey of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Terry Wayne and Loretta Frey of Burlington, NC: sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Tom Hardin of Tennessee Ridge, TN, Jane and Jerry McKee of Athens, AL, and Lois and Joe Ragsdale of Fairfield Glade; sister, Hanna Ruth Wright of Lawrenceburg, TN; brother and sister-in-law, James David and Nancy Frey of Lawrenceburg; brother, William D. Frey of Lawrenceburg; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Frey; and two brothers, his twin, Raymond Frey, and Paul Wesley Frey.

OLAF WAYNE HASSLER
Olaf Wayne Hassler, 66, of Columbus, GA, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 24, 2001. Funeral services were conducted April 27 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Biggers and the Rev. Barry Lee officiated.
Mr. Hassler was born March 13, 1935, in Crossville, the son of Weddie Clayton and Maggie Eden Hassler.
He received his bachelor's degree in education from Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. He was a school teacher and coach, was named Coach of the Year in 1962 in Charleston, TN, and also worked in the Georgia school system for a number of years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and John Stockard of Dalton, GA, and Kristi and Jay Teague of Atlanta, GA; son, Michael Hassler of Chatsworth, GA; brother, Eugene Hassler of Crossville; sisters, Marie Stone of Crossville and Betty Taylor of Elyria, OH; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Eunice Floyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Weddie Clayton and Maggie Eden Hassler.
Pallbearers were Lynn Stone, Ronnie Stone, Don Hassler, Tom Hassler, Billy Blaylock and Josh Lawson.

Mrs. Henry was born July 9, 1924, in Putnam County, TN, the daughter of William H. and Edna Allen Livesay.
She was an employee in Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Henry of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda K. and Ricky Crabtree of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Ray and Carol Henry of Crossville; brothers, Jack Livesay and Tom Livesay, both of Crossville; sister, Dorothy Chamberlin of Crossville; three stepgrandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Livesay; and a sister, Susie Miller.

LARRY ALLAN HOST
Larry Allan Host, 51, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 21, 2001. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Crossville, where Mr. Host formerly served as organist.
Mr. Host was born Sept. 16, 1949, in Chicago, IL, the son of Ernest and Mollie Dear Woody Host.
Before moving to Florida, he was a musician who worked with the Cumberland County Playhouse and Opry Land.
Survivors include his brother, Stanley Sampley of Crossville; uncles, Rudolph Host and Arthur Woody, both of Crossville; and aunts, Kiefel Henry and Lovie Jean Smith, both of Crossville, and Josephine Yerbick, Mildred Pelko and Nancy Perrin, all of Chicago.

William S. Shaw, 41, of Savannah, TN, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 27, 2001. Funeral services were conducted April 29 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah, with burial in Savannah Cemetery.
Mr. Shaw was born Aug. 28, 1959, in Savannah.
He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Savannah Lions Club, he served as chairman of the Hardin County Democratic Party and was a former Rotarian. He ran newspapers in Columbia, KY, and Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Poole Shaw of Savannah; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Shaw of Savannah; son, David Paulk Shaw III of Savannah; mother, Lillian Stover Shaw of Savannah; sister, Elizabeth Butler of Indianapolis, IN; and brother, Sam Shaw of Savannah.

Mrs. Spitler was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of Waldo S. and Edna Shultz Penrod.
She was a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Royce E. and Doris Spitler of Fairfield Glade; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Sheila and Bob Furrey of Eaton, OH; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Dennis and Pattie Spitler of Tipp City, OH; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Edna Penrod; her husband, Russell Spitler; and two brothers.

Mrs. Whittier was born Sept. 1, 1915, in Morgan County, TN, the daughter of Frank and Mandy Rader Hamby.
She was a cook, and a member of Rinnie Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Frank Henry of Crossville and James Henry of Clarksville, TN; two stepsons, Dewey Whittier and Jimmie Whittier; stepdaughters, Margie Barlow, Imogene DiCarlo and Maurine Pratt; and a sister, Oma Hamby of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Henry and Luther Whittier; a son, Harrison Henry; and a stepdaughter, Jo Ann Ellison.
