Mattie Gail Gilley, 52, of Sparta, TN, passed away June 20, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bolin Cemetery. Sister Belinda Elsberry officiated.
Ms. Gilley was born Feb. 6, 1950, in Campbell County, TN, the daughter of Charles and Edna Clariece Lewis Alderman.
She was in advertising sales, and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Andrea Dyer of Webster City, IA, and Melissa Gilley-Harley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Wendy Dyer of Crossville and Michael Gilley of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Judy Wood of Crossville, Edna Dille of Sparta and Debbie Boone of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Chuck Alderman of Boody, IL; and grandchildren, Ali Dyer and Caitlin Dyer.
Pallbearers were Jerry Wood Jr., Jay Wood, Greg Smith, Chip Reed, Nick Reed and Michael Gilley.

Aug. 28, 1935 - June 24, 2002
Charles Franklin Houston, 66, of Crossville, passed away June 24, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. The Rev. Merlin Sepmeyer officiated.
Mr. Houston was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Cumberland County, the son of James Thomas and Julie Barnett Houston.
He was a plumber, and of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife, Eulah Meadows Houston of Crossville; sons and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Lee Ann Houston, and Darrian Houston, all of Crossville; sisters, Alice Music of Crossville and Effie Rogers of Hixson, TN; brother, Herbert Houston of Crossville; and granddaughter, Hailey Taite Houston.
Pallbearers were Bill Houston, Leroy Houston, Lowell Houston, Kenneth Houston, Ray Parsons and Ed Brown.

Samuel H. Lawson

Samuel Horace Lawson, 91, of Crossville, passed away June 19, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 22 at Pine Grove Church of God of Prophecy, with burial in Tollett's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. A.J. Coulter, Bro. Wayne Hall, Bro. Barry lee, Bro. Jimmy Turner and Bro. Eugene Weakley officiated. Special music was provided by Jared Barnwell, Bonnie Austin, Chris Caruthers and Cara Cross.
Mr. Lawson was born Aug. 17, 1910, in Cumberland County, the son of Dan and Sarah Caroline Willis Lawson.
He was a minister, and a member of Pine Grove Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Willis Lawson of Crossville, Paul and Helen Lawson of Westmoreland, TN, and Larry and Barbara Lawson of Huntsville, AL; daughters and sons-in-law, Samietine and Clyde Barnwell, Rita and Mitchell Barnwell, Faye and Paul Barnes, all of Crossville, and Glenna and Milton Brady of Crab Orchard; brother, Omer Lawson of Crossville; sister, Ruth Lawson of Crossville; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zela Lawson; brothers, L.A. Lawson, Jim Lawson, Raymond Lawson and Clarence Lawson; and sister, Della Parrott.

Evelyn Serena Mullins Locke, 85, of Cumberland County, passed away June 19, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 23 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Scott White officiated, with special music by Reba Reed, Kenneth Peterson, and Tony and Valeria Castlen.
Mrs. Locke was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Lincoln County, TN, the daughter of Andy Reed and Autie Whitman Mullins.
She was a member of Slate Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Georgia Locke, and Ted and Patricia Locke, all of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Scott Bristol of Crossville, and Myla and Carl Pearson of Medway, OH; brothers, James Mullins of Leoma, TN, and Johnny Mullins and Benton Mullins, both of Alabama; sister, Alma Townsend of Pulaski, TN; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Wilton Locke; brother, William Mullins; and sister, Jennie Belle Davidson.

Elzo E. Roysdon

Elzo Eugene "Hoss" Roysdon, 53, of Crossville, passed away June 21, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 24 at Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown, TN, with burial in Sharp Place Cemetery. Bro. Herman Waldo officiated.
Mr. Roysdon was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Fentress County, TN, the son of Willie Nimrod and Nettie Louvernia Slaven Roysdon.
He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Bowden Roysdon of Crossville; daughters, Linda Kay Bunch and Michelle Lee Burgess, both of Crossville; son, Jackie Lynn Mullins of Burksville, KY; sisters, Angela Jewell Dean Wood of Crossville, Cordia Russell of Jamestown, and Trish Boyer of Kingston, TN; brothers, Clarence Roysdon and J.C. Roysdon, both of Jamestown, and David Roysdon of Crossville; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Jean Wilson, Beatrice Harris and Dorothy Watson, and brother, Estel Buddy Roysdon.

David Andrew Tollett, 68, of Crossville, passed away June 4, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 6 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Tollett Cemetery in Bledsoe County, TN. The Rev. Bratton Tucker officiated, with special music by The Goldenaires.
Mr. Tollett was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Cumberland County, the son of George Franklin and Jane Scott Tollett.
He was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church, and was a participant in the Special Olympics. He enjoyed roller skating and water skiing.
Survivors include his brothers, Bill Tollett of Crossville, Charles Tollett of Washington, DC, and Danny Tollett of Hendersonville, TN; sister, Bettye Hill of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Creed Tollett, Finas Tollett, Woodrow Tollett, Bob Tollett and John Tollett; and sister, Mary Melton.
Pallbearers were Kirk Tollett, Lynn Tollett, George Melton, Ronnie Hill, Bill Tollett and Ed Tollett.

Harvey W. Both Jr.
Aug. 12, 1913 - June 12, 2002
Harvey William Both Jr., 88, of Crossville, passed away June 12, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merlin Sepmeyer officiating. Graveside committal was held June 17 at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, with East Tennessee Honor Guard presenting the flag, 21-gun salute and "Taps," and serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Both was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Fostoria, OH, the son of Harvey W. Sr. and Nell B. Good Both.
He was a controller in the automotive industry, and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Navy [Radarman 1C (T), V6] during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hurtado Both of Crossville; sons, David Both of Raleigh, NC, James Both of Columbus, OH, and William Both of London, England; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew F. Both; and sister, Baby Girl Both.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

John was born Dec. 27, 1985, in Fort Smith, AR, the son of Daren and Sheila Thurman.

Emma Maurene Jennings, 78, of Crossville, passed away June 24, 2002. Funeral services were held today (June 26) at 1 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood. Roland Smith officiated.
Ms. Jennings was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Fairview, VA, the daughter of Ora and Myrtle Snapp Jennings.
She was a child care provider, and a member of Central Baptist Church. She attended Radford State Teachers College in Radford, VA.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ora and Vauneva Jennings of Johnson City, TN, Muriel and Betty Jennings of Spring City, TN, and Frank Jennings of Columbus, GA; sister, Valice Jennings of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eileen Sims; and brother, Jack Jennings.

Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Clarkrange, the daughter of Fred and Clara Edith Tinch Smith.
She was a bookkeeper.

Mary Jeanne Loveday
April 18, 1941 - June 17, 2002
Mary Jeanne Loveday, 61, of Crossville, passed away June 17, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Hebbertsburg Cemetery. Bro. Wade Webster and Bro. Phil Jenkins officiated, with congregational singing.
Mrs. Loveday was born April 18, 1941, in Westlake, OH, the daughter of John and Maude Stone Houston.
She did secretarial work early in her career, working in Nashville for Prudential Insurance, then in Crossville for Flynn Construction Co. After her children were born, Jeanne stayed home with them, raising them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
When her children were grown, Jeanne opened a day care center in her home, Mama Jeanne Day Care Center, giving those children the same loving care she gave to her own children. She operated the day care center until she started having health problems.
Jeanne was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Coye Loveday of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Wendy Loveday, and Jonathan and Sylvia Loveday, all of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Brian McLaughlin of Crossville; brothers, Ray Houston and J.C. Houston, both of Crossville, and Jerry Houston of Knoxville; sisters, Myrtle Hale and Crystal Pugh, both of Crossville; grandchildren, Hannah, Sara, Blake, Amy, Madison and Jabin; and grandniece, Kari.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Opal Sullivan and Ernestine Houston.
Pallbearers were elders and deacons, Bill Foland, Eddie Brown, Steve Hassler, Clyde Randolph, Greg Donnally, Larry McDuffee and Roy Rose. Honorary pallbearers were deacons, Greg Maxwell, Travis Clark, Jim Bell, Mike Hollingsworth, Roger Smith, Jimmy Harris, Al Griffin and Jerry Harris.

Hayden Burgess Melton, 8, of Farragut, TN, passed away June 22, 2002. Graveside services were conducted June 25 at Pleasant Forest Cemetery, with the Rev. Carolyn Bingham officiating.
Hayden was born May 11, 1994, in Morristown, TN, the son of Lynn and Wendy Melton. He was home-schooled, and was a member of Crossville First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sisters, Michael Melton, 15, and Montana Melton, 12; brother, Andrew Melton, 4; grandmother, Melva Melton; and maternal great-grandmother, Pauline Corum.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Joseph Melton; maternal grandfather, Bob R. Burgess; and maternal great-grandfather, William L. Corum.

William A. Nelson, 73, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 22, 2002. A memorial service was held June 25 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Patrick officiating. Graveside services will also be held June 27 at 10 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, IN.
Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Reading, PA, the son of Howard and Anna Torre Nelson.
He attended NYU School of Engineering and worked in the aerospace industry, retiring from United Air Craft Products in Forest, OH. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rose C. Nelson of Fairfield Glade; sons, William Nelson Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, and Mark Nelson of Glendale, AZ; daughters, Jeanne N. Rogers of Granger, IN, Andrea Sachs of Indianapolis, and Donna McCurdy of Fishers, IN; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Allen was born March 17, 1936, in Ozone, TN, the son of George and Nellie Allen.
He was employed with Lockheed Martin, Y-12, as a machinist for 23 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Evon Allen of Rockwood; sons, John W. Allen of Ozone, Alonza "Jackie" Allen of Crossville and Gary Lynn Allen of Rockwood; sisters, Mary Cordell of Homestead, FL, and Barbara Kindrick of Rockwood; and grandchildren, Adam Allen and McKinzie Allen.

Mrs. Patterson-Henry was born March 10, 1922, in Crab Orchard, TN, the daughter of Willie and Virdie Davenport.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Abundant Life Church of God of Prophecy for 56 years.

Ms. Shaver was born July 31, 1913, in Brotherton, TN, the daughter of Elmer J. and Margaret Leona Brewer Shaver.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Oscar and Faye Shaver of Crossville, and Haskel and Reba Shaver of Crab Orchard; sister-in-law, Ozelle Shaver; five nieces; and one nephew.

Alta Ernestine Caldwell, 69, of Elyria, OH, passed away June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Caldwell was born June 25, 1932, in Crossville, the daughter of William and Mary Swafford.
A resident of Crossville until moving to Elyria, where she lived for more than 50 years, she was a graduate of Crossville High School and was a licensed practical nurse. She was a former employee of General Industries in Elyria. She enjoyed walking, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Forrest C. Caldwell of Elyria; two sons, Kevin Caldwell and David Caldwell, both of Elyria; a daughter, Diane Blair of Amherst Township, OH; four grandchildren, Brittany Blair and Nicole Blair, both of Amherst Township, and Matthew Caldwell and Seth Caldwell, both of Elyria; and three brothers, Alton Swafford, Vance Swafford and Archie Swafford, all of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Swafford; and five brothers, Oscar Kerley of Florida, Leslie A. Kerley, Casto Swafford and Oates Kerley, all of Crossville, and Garland Kerley of Idaho.

Mr. Rose was born June 11, 1930, in Crab Orchard, the son of Roy L. Rose Sr. and Edna Barnes Rose.
He was a construction engineer and a member of First Christian Church.

Mark C. Dunbar Jr., 79, Crossville, died at Country Place Health Care Center June 14, 2002. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Dorton United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at Dorton United Methodist Church beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Mark Dunbar was born in Orlando, FL, Feb. 7, 1923, son of Mark and Eva Wilson Dunbar Sr. He was a rural mail carrier for over 34 years in the Crossville area and was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
Decorations and citations for his air service included the air medal with 4 oak leaf clusters Ltr. 392nd Bomb Squad 44, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, Distinguished Flying Cross Go113 HQ NHAF 44 with oak leaf cluster 392 Bomb Squad 44.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Johnson-Dunbar; sons and daughter-in-laws Rick and Jeannie Dunbar of Knoxville, Keith and Elaine Dunbar ; daughter and son-in-law Cecelia Dunbar and Kester Oman of Cedar Crest, NM; and grandchildren Amber Dunbar of Knoxville, Steffan and his wife, Amy Dunbar, of Knoxville, Rachel Dunbar of Crossville and Sarah and Rachel Oman of Cedar Crest, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Eva Wilson Dunbar Sr.

Delphia Mae Evans, 74, of Crossville, died June 10, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were held June 12, 2002, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home with burial in Green Acres Cemetery.
Mrs. Evans was born Aug. 10, 1027, in Pickett County, the daughter of Charles Pierce and Bertha Dishman Meek. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws, Lonnie and Elaine Evans of Gatlinburg, and Robert Evans Jr., of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and Clayton Jones, Kathy Haskell Jones and Lisa and James Hawkins, all of Crossville, and Glenda Willard Hale of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Evans Sr.

Edward Allen Grace Sr., 83, of Crossville died at his home June 14, 2002. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Hood Funeral Home June 16 with burial in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Grace was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Marshall County, KY, the son of George Everett and Ora Mae Russell Grace. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Grace; sons and wives, Edward Jr. and Cynthia Grace, Phillip and Dorothy Grace, David L. Grace, and the Rev. Mr. Hall was born July 7, 1932, in Overton County, TN, Mayford Curtis and Minta Dell Smith Hall.
He was a factory worker.

Robert Terry Myers, 40, of Crossville, died June 15, 2002 in Gwinett County, GA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in the chapel of Hood Funeral Home with interment in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Terry Myers was born Feb. 13, 1962, in Poplar Bluff, MO, the son of Robert Ira and Peggy Romaine Miller Myers. He was a member of Cumberland Fellowship Church and was a local businessman.
He is survived by his wife, Missy Myers, who is an advertising sales representative for the Crossville Chronicle. In addition, Terry Myers is survived by a son, Robbie Myers; a daughter, Victoria Myers; his parents, Robert and Peggy Myers; his grandfather, David F. Miller of Crossville; and a sister and brother-in-law Lisa and John Riddle of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Virginia Myers, and grandmother Sara Miller.
Pallbearers are Tim Thomas, Bruce Smith, John Smith, Ed Eischied, Josh Nye, Bill Brasher, Brent Munson and West Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Clenis Norris, James Findley, Keith Tanner, Johnny Hassler, Sam Sherrill and Jim Wheeler.

David Andrew Tollett, 68, of Crossville, died June 4, 2002, at Country Place Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at the chapel of Hood Funeral Home with burial in Goldenaires.
He was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Cumberland County, the son of George Franklin and Jane Scott Tollett. He was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church, enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and enjoyed roller skating and water skiing.
He is survived by his brothers, Bill Tollett of Crossville, Charles Tollett of Washington, D.C., and Danny Tollett of Hendersonville; sister Bettye Hill of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, George and Jane Tollett, brothers Creed, Finas, Woodrow, Bob and John Tollett, and sister, Mary Melton.

James "Jim" Andrew Keyes, 68, of Crossville, passed away June 2, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 5 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Wallace officiated, with remarks and testimonies by Sandra Olds, Steve Stone, Steve Bolin, Jackie Hughes, Charlene Gunter, Butch Marshall, Janie Tollett Estes, Dr. Joe Wallace Sr. and Don Hinch. The DAV performed the presentation of the flag and 21-gun salute, followed by "Taps," at the cemetery.
Mr. Keyes was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Crossville, the son of Eugene and Myra Isbell Keyes.
He graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy and attended Vanderbilt University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1971 as a pilot, and considered it an honor and privilege to serve his country. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Crossville and started Frontier Realty and Turn-Key Homes. The last 25 years of his life, Mr. Keyes was owner of Keyes Appraisals.
Mr. Keyes will always be remembered for his generosity, humor and laughter, and especially for the love and help he gave to many recovering alcoholics and their families.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret Ann "Bobbie" Keyes; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Mark Rich; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Melissa Keyes; granddaughters, Melissa Rich, Rachel Rich and Bailey Keyes; and special friend, Mary Massengill.
Pallbearers were Steve Bolin, Ike Hale, Jeff Wallace, Col. B.J. Nunley, Don Hinch, Steve Stone, Dr. Joe Wallace, Wayne Smith, Ralph Barnwell and Bobby Baisley.

He was retired from the Tennessee Highway Department, and was a member of Sequatchie Valley Church of Christ.

Ms. Meek was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Pickett County, TN, the daughter of Everett "Frosty" and Montie Plato Williams Meek.
She had been a cashier for Dooley's Grocery Store, and was a member of Main Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her nieces, Linda Diane Goodwin of Waycross, GA, and Doris Smith Odell of Dalton, GA; and nephews, William Cecil Smith Jr. and Lewis Edgar Smith, both of Crossville.

He was a retired driller for Franklin Limestone Co., and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Evans was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Cumberland County.

Ledford D. Martin
May 21, 1919 - May 21, 2002
Ledford Don Martin, 83, of Crossville, passed away May 21, 2002. Funeral services were conducted May 25 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. Elders Jerry Hassler, Tom Jenkins and Austin Hamby officiated, with Bishop Dave DeVos presenting the closing hymn.
Mr. Martin was born May 21, 1919, in Florence, AL, the son of Ledford D. and Clara Belle Cash Martin.
He grew up in Chattanooga, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1940. Later he attended Officer Training School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After his discharge from the Coast Guard in 1945, he settled in Santa Monica, CA, and served on the Santa Monica Police Department. He later opened a business called Don's Malt Shop, a popular gathering place for students, across from Santa Monica High School.
A few years later he followed in his father's trade and went into his own plumbing and contracting business. He expanded the plumbing business to include a hardware store and full-service rental yard, known as Martin Plumbing & Heating, Santa Monica Rentals and Martin's True Value Hardware Store. In 1969, he received the prestigious Santa Monica Beautiful Award for his design of the building and property that housed the businesses.
After retiring in 1974, he and his wife, Roberta, moved to Crossville. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, F&AM and the OES. On Sept. 18, 2001, he was presented with his 50-year membership pin from the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Roberta Peterson Martin of Crossville; sons, Steven L. Martin of Crossville and Robert A. Martin of Glendale, AZ; daughters, Donna L. Nancy Pugh
April 15, 1938 - June 3, 2002
Nancy Pugh, 64, of Mayland, passed away June 3, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Mayland Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Reagan will officiate, with interment to follow in Mayland Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 9 at Goff Funeral Home in Monterey.
Mrs. Pugh was born April 15, 1938, in Woody, TN, the daughter of John H. and Estella Woody Tays.
She was a member of Mayland Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael "George" and Kathy Stamps, Robert and Chris Pugh, Doug Pugh, and Cliff and Teresa Pugh, all of Mayland; sister, Dorothy Shanks-Rush of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, John Tays of Salinas, CA; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Allen Pugh and Jacky Wayne Pugh; and a brother, Clifford Tays.

William A. Whorley
May 23, 1926 - June 3, 2002
William A. Whorley, 76, of Lynchburg, TN, passed away June 3, 2002. A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel in Shelbyville, TN, with the Rev. Charles Collins and Dick Poplin officiating.
Visitation will be today from noon to 2 p.m. at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Whorley was born May 23, 1926, in Marshall County, TN, the son of Grady and Kathleen Davis Whorley.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from the U.S. Post Office, and was a Realtor for 24 years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruth Nichols Whorley of Lynchburg; son, Ted Whorley of Johnson City, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Joe Looney of Crossville and Pam and Danny Jones of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters and brother-in-law, Earlene Burrow, Margie Crane, and Iris and Johnny Bragg, all of Petersburg, TN; brother, Jimmy Whorley of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Shannon Calhoun of Atlanta, GA, John Looney of Nashville, Todd Whorley of Shelbyville and Angie Whorley of Murfreesboro; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Whorley and Coulton Whorley.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Whorley and Darwin Whorley.

Robert Reed Barger, 72, of Crossville, and also a part-time resident of Beverly Hills, FL, passed away May 29, 2002. Private funeral services were held.
Mr. Barger was born May 3, 1930, in Tennessee, the son of Archie and Myrtle Webster Barger.
He was general manager of a foundry, and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Lena Statom Barger; daughter, Sheryl Lee Neal; son, Steven Watson-Barger; sister, Eloise Edgeman; and grandchildren, Samantha McIsaac, Christopher Ryan Watson-Burger and Robert Christopher McIsaac.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Myrtle Barger; brothers, Daniel Barger and Archie H. Barger; and sister, Madeline Wilbanks.

Mary K.L.A. Gentry
June 18, 1922 - May 30, 2002
Mary Kathleen Lequire Abels Gentry, 79, of Cookeville, TN, passed away May 30, 2002. Funeral services were conducted June 1 from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville, with the Rev. Jeff Jones officiating, and special music by Kelli Jones.
Funeral services were also conducted June 2 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with the Rev. Pete Scarbrough officiating, and special music by the Daysville Baptist Church Quartet. Interment was in Daysville Cemetery.
Mrs. Gentry was born June 18, 1922, in Rockwood, TN, the daughter of George M. and Jesse Mulligan Lequire.
She was a floral designer, and retired from Abel Gardens. She was a member of Daysville Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Rockwood, Pythian Sisters. She was a former member of the Cumberland County School Board, and was an active Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her son, Raymond Abel Jr. and his lifetime partner, Pearl Haney, of Cookeville; daughters and sons-in-law, June and Donald Wofford, and Betty and Glen Lowe, all of Cookeville, and Jane and Ray Crawhorn of Kingston, TN; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Abel of Cookeville; stepchildren and their spouses, Carol and Jim Gatton, and John W. Jr. and Eulah Gentry, all of Cookeville, Una E. and Doyle Lafever of Baxter, TN, Pearl Marie and Eddie Hargis of Crossville, and Gordon A. Hall Jr. of Denver, CO; sister, Isabell Ross of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Travis Lowe, Eric Lowe and Randy Abel; and great-grandchildren, Adrienne Lowe, Michael Abel and Christopher Abel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George M. and Jesse Mulligan Lequire; husbands, Raymond Rodgers Abels and John V. Gentry Sr.; sister, Dorothy Bell; and brother, Tommy Lequire.

John E. Hall

John Estel Hall, 87, of Crossville, passed away May 23, 2002. Funeral services were conducted May 25 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Cecil McFarland officiated.
Mr. Hall was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Overton County, TN, the son of George Balem and Rebecca Mathus Hall.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Tabor Hall of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Verda Hall of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Wayne Brown of Crossville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bryan Phillips, Bill Boston, Garry Lewis, Steven Sabine, Phil Watson and Bobby Wyatt.

Mary Jane F. Marsh

Mary Jane Farley Marsh, 93, of Sparta, TN, passed away May 25, 2002. Graveside services were conducted May 27 at Smiths Chapel Cemetery, with Fate Wilson officiating.
Mrs. Marsh was born Mary Jane Farley on July 13, 1909, in White County, TN, the daughter of Lona and Della Farley.
She as a shirt factory worker, and a member of Gums Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Gary Greene of Crossville; son, Willard Marsh of Sparta; sister, Rose Farley Norris of Ohio; brothers, Beecher Farley of Sparta and Charlie Farley of Ohio; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Marsh; son, Milburn Marsh; and parents, Lona and Della Farley.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Marsh's grandsons.

Francis P. Tully
Dec. 31, 1930 - May 20, 2002
Francis Patrick "Pat" Tully, 71, of Cumberland County, passed away May 20, 2002. A memorial Mass was held June 3 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will be later at St. Catherine Cemetery, Wall Township, NJ.
Mr. Tully was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Neptune, NJ.
He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School, and Perdue University. Before leaving New Jersey in 1967, Mr. Tully was an employee of the New Jersey State Employment Service. He was active in church and the Coast Catholic Young Adult Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in France and Germany. He also lived in California before retiring to Tennessee. He was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Survivors include his brother, Eugene Tully of Los Angeles, CA; and a large number of relatives.
