Marjorie L. Ellis
June 8, 1919 - Jan. 23, 2005
Marjorie (Maggie) Louise Ellis, 85, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Jan. 23, 2005. A funeral Mass was conducted Jan. 26 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Patrick Brownell officiating. A chapel service and burial will be held at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Arlington National Cemetery.
Mrs. Ellis was born June 8, 1919, in Belchertown, MA, the daughter of Charles Royal Aldrich and Harriett Mae Corey Aldrich.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from Aug. 6, 1943 to Nov. 25, 1945.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Britta Louise and Howard Patrick of Fairfield Glade and Virginia (Ginny) Mae Ellis of Mableton, GA; son, Donald (Smokey) Francis Ellis of Sterling, VA; sister, Helen Carrington of Belchertown, MA; and nephew, Richard (Butch) McCumber.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Francis Ellis; and sister, Ruth McCumber.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Clarence Caudill Sr.
Feb. 6, 1947 - Jan. 23, 2005

Clarence Caudill Sr., 57, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 23, 2005.
He was born Feb. 6, 1947, the son of Fred and Irene Caudill of Harlan, KY.
Prior to Mr. Caudill's illness, he was a truck driver and operated a backhoe business.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Charlotte Caudill; sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Fay Caudill of Crossville and Charles and Janie Caudill of Jamestown; daughters and son-in-law, Patti Caudill of North Aurora, IL and Cindy and Scott Mapes of Crossville; brothers and sister-in-law, Pat and Naomi Caudill of Crossville and Billy Ray Caudill of Evarts, KY; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Lee Goodin of Evarts, KY; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ernie Caudill of Grand Rapids, MI; and father-in-law, Charles Griffith of Crossville.

Charles E. Slover
Aug. 8, 1912 - Jan. 21, 2005

Charles Edgar Slover, better known as Guy Slover, passed away at the age of 92. He had become a resident of Cumberland County having moved to Uplands Village in 1988.
Mr. Slover was born in Trenton, NJ, and graduated from New Jersey Teachers College at Hillwood Lakes majoring in music education. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and directed many drama workshops throughout his career. He was a staff member of radio station WTNJ in Trenton with his own radio program "Enchanting Moments" for four years. He subsequently became an announcer, producer and director of various radio programs and was on the talent staff of what is now Radio City - New York, and worked on the Lux Radio Theatre. Mr. Slover enjoyed several opportunities at stage acting and directing.
Mr. Slover enlisted and served for four years in the United States Army during World War II. He then entered into Civil Service with the New York State Department of Labor specifically as a testing consultant working with the handicapped and veteran job placement. In New York City, he and his former wife remodeled an old mansion, furnished it with antiques, and mingled with Broadway theatre personalities.
After retiring and moving to Cape Cod, MA, Mr. Slover studied water color painting under master water colorist Foster N. Nystrom for five years. Being in the American Realist/Traditionalist style, the inspiration for his paintings were barns and bridges in New England, tropical landscapes when he lived in Florida and Bermuda, and Spanish architecture when he lived on the Costa del Sol. His works have been exhibited on Cape Cod, MA; Warren, VT; and Sarasota and Venice, FL. He has had at least five one-man shows to his credit, had work hung in several galleries, and had received numerous awards for his paintings.
After moving to Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill in 1988, Mr. Slover gave private lessons and judged shows at Fairfield Glade and Tansi. At the age of 90, Mr. Slover learned the technique of water-color pencils and showed 35 of his new paintings in Crossville City Hall.
He was an active member with his church wherever he lived, that most recently being the Pleasant Hill Community United Church of Christ. He was an active volunteer in the Uplands Village serving on committees, organizing plays, participating in events, and even directing a rhythm band. Also a talented musician, he continued to daily play one of the seven organs he had owned during his lifetime until the last year of his life.
Mr. Slover leaves no family. He had made arrangements that his body be donated to Vanderbilt in Nashville and requested that there not be a service.

Philip L. Courtney
Jan. 20, 2005

Philip Leigh Courtney, 46, of Smyrna, passed away Jan. 20, 2005. A memorial service was conducted Jan. 22 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN. Family and friends officiated.
A native of Rockwood, he was the son of A. Byron and Anna Ruth Scott Courtney of Lumberton, NC.
Mr. Courtney was a private investigator, an avid outdoorsman, martial artist, musician and devoted family man. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Marie Boerke Courtney of Smyrna; daughter, Kristin Danielle Courtney of Smyrna; parents, A. Byron and Ruth S. Courtney of Lumberton, NC; and brothers, Curtis Courtney of New Orleans, LA and Chris Courtney of Lumberton, NC.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Courtney may be made to the Kristin Danielle Courtney Education Fund at any branch of Bank of America.

William B. Hallman
Jan. 19, 2005

William Blake "Bill" Hallman, 70, of McCormick, SC, husband of Margaret Ann Mosley Hallman, passed away Jan. 19, 2005. Services were conducted Jan. 21 at Harley Funeral Home of Greenwood, SC.
Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of the late Dr. Elmer Berley and Lillian Daisy Williams Hallman.
Mr. Hallman received his BA degree from Furman University and served in the U.S. Army. He was the general manager of Savannah Lakes Village and was formerly the general manager of the Fairfield Glade POA.
Surviving is his wife of the home; daughter, LeeAnne Grace Apple of Springfield, TN; sons, John Greene Hallman of Columbia, SC and David William Hallman of Bethpage, TN; stepdaughter, Deborah P. Davis of Summerville, SC; brother, Robert E. Hallman of Moorehead City, NC; and six grandchildren.
Honorary escort will be the board members of Savannah Lakes Village POA.

Gerald "Jerry" Stephen Koscoe, 47, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 14, 2005. A time of remembrance was held Jan. 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 18 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge, OH, with burial in Rock Hill Cemetery of Flushing, OH.
Mr. Koscoe was born Oct. 23, 1957 in Barnesville, OH, the son of Robert Koscoe Sr. and Ruth Pendelton Koscoe.
He was a human resources manager for ADA Station Communications and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Barber Koscoe of Crossville; daughter, Kasi Koscoe of Crossville; father and stepmother, Robert and Barb Koscoe Sr. of Cambridge, OH; brothers, Bob Koscoe Jr. and Doug Koscoe of Cambridge, OH; and sister, Jackie Maroni of Cadiz, OH.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Koscoe.

Albert Meadows Jr.

Albert Meadows Jr., 79, of Cookeville, passed away Jan. 21, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 23 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home of Cookeville, with Brother Johnny Fox and Brother David Flatt officiating. Interment followed at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Meadows was born Oct. 5, 1925 in Jackson County, TN, the son of Albert Meadows Sr. and Gracie Lee Hodge Meadows.
He spent his working years as a truck driver. He was married to his wife, Birtie Loftis, for 59 years. He was a member of Locust Grove Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Birtie Mae Loftis Meadows of Cookeville; daughters and son-in-law, Clara Alberta Allen of Cookeville and Joyce and Roger Lewis of Monterey; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Joyce Meadows of Smithville, Jerry and Arlette Meadows of Cookeville, Frank and Stafanie Meadows of Cookeville and Eddie and Renee Meadows of Cookeville; sisters and brother-in-law, Billie and Dexter Ross of Michigan and Reba Nowak of Michigan; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Thelma A. F. Parsons
July 17, 1910 - Jan. 21, 2005

Thelma Alice Ford Parsons was born July 17, 1910, in Grassy Cove, TN, the oldest daughter of Thomas Young and Savannah Louise Hamby Ford. She attended the Grassy Cove Academy until it was closed and her family moved to the Oak Hill community so the children could attend the Cumberland Mountain (Methodist) School, from which she graduated high school.
She caught the train at the old depot and rode it to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Polytechnic Institute to finish her college degree in teaching. She was a school teacher for 44 years.
In Cumberland County she taught at Burgesstown, Tabor, Bowman, Creston, Slate Springs, Oak Hill, Woodlawn and Crossville City School. After teaching for 24 years in Tennessee she and her husband moved to Orlando, FL, where she taught another 20 years at Pine Hills Elementary School before retiring and returning to Crossville. She taught Sunday school at Killarney Baptist Church in Winter Park, FL, for 20 years, and made an around-the-world trip with the Baptist World Alliance.
After returning to Crossville, she taught Sunday school at Central Baptist Church where she was a member when she passed away. Mrs. Parsons was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, honorary teachers organization, and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, on the service of her great-great-great-grandfather, John Ford Sr., Revolutionary War soldier who settled in Grassy Cove in 1801.
She was a member of the Captain Sally Tompkins 2123 Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, on the service of her great-grandfather, Thomas Wesley Ford, and his brothers, John Fletcher, Elbert Henley, and Elijah Jehu Ford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alma Theo (Tom) Parsons; parents, T.Y. and Savannah Ford; brothers, Fred, Clell (Lena), Eugene (Mera) and Richard Ford; sister, Alma Ford (Sam) Burnett; and stepdaughter, Virginia (Johnny) Benson.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Bernard (Norma) Parsons of Tampa, FL and Eugene Hope (Barbara) Parsons of Crossville; stepdaughters, Ruth (Austin) Maynard of Crossville and Alva Parsons of Cookeville. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Louise (Fred) Ford of Crossville and Grace (Richard) Ford of San Diego, CA, 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, with burial in Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Roland Smith, senior pastor; the Rev. Scott White, associate pastor; and the Rev. Scott York, music minister of Central Baptist Church, officiated. Jack Irvin, soloist, and Mrs. Michael (Deborah) Wood, pianist, performed special music.
Active pallbearers are Sam Burnett, Daryl Beard, Kenneth Lane Ford, John Schubert, Paul Ford and Terry Maynard.
Honorary pallbearers are Boyd Raper, Bob Eldridge, Hugh Eldridge, Tom Herring and E.E. (Pete) Ford, Jr.

George N. McGrew
March 13, 1932 - Jan. 19, 2005

George Newton McGrew, 72, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Jan. 19, 2005. Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. CST Friday, Jan. 21, from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Dr. David Thompson officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 2-3 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Mr. McGrew was born March 13, 1932 in Mitchell, SD, the son of F.O. and Mildred Hintze McGrew.
He retired after 39 years with Mercantile Stores and was an Army veteran, having served his country in the Korean Conflict. He was a Kentucky Colonel and liked to play golf. He also played table tennis and competed in the Senior State Games, where he won many medals and was state champion.
Survivors include his wife, Lunnie McGrew of Fairfield Glade; sons, Mike (Debbie) McGrew of Louisville, KY, Steve (Karen) McGrew of Lenoir City, TN, Don (Elaine) McGrew of Louisville, KY and Dan McGrew of Shelbyville, KY; daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Gilbert of Mt. Juliet, TN and Jamie (Craig) Rumrill of Louisville, KY; sisters, Jane Myers and Mildred McGrew, both of Logansport, IN; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Arthur McGrew.

Mr. York was born Feb. 11, 1954 in Crossville, the son of Huntley Avery York and Shellie Avo Maynard York.

Dishman Hall, 79, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 14, 2005. No services are planned at this time.
Mr. Hall was born Aug. 9, 1925 in Viper, KY, the son of Henry and Dallie Napier Hall.
He was a general laborer before retiring and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his brother, James Hall of Viper, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Dishman Hall Jr.; brothers, Preston, Asbill and Elmer Hall, all of Viper, KY; and sister, Marie Hall Border of Winchester, KY.

Mrs. Jennings was born June 23, 1923 in Logan Sport, IN, the daughter of George William Nichols and Mazie Howell Nichols.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Priscilla Jennings of Danville, KY and David and Cheryl Jennings of Fort Wayne, IN; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi and Keith Babcock of Chapin, SC, Janet and Roger Cable of Fort Wayne, IN and Sarah and Doug Scarlett of Crossville; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Deitschel of Sardinona, OH and Peggy Plummer of Frankfort, IN.

Martha P. Wallenta
March 17, 1929 - Dec. 31, 2004

Martha Patricia (Pat) Wallenta, 75, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 31, 2004. Memorial services were conducted Jan. 17 at Pomona United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bratton Tucker officiating.
Mrs. Wallenta was born March 17, 1929 in Racine, WI, the daughter of Claude and Joyce Frampton Carroll.
She married Robert Wallenta in the Plymouth Congregational Church on Jan. 17, 1953. They lived in Racine until moving to Crossville 10 years ago.
She had belonged to Christ Church United Methodist since 1963. While living in Tennessee, she attended Pomona United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being a Girl Scout leader.
She loved crafting, playing bingo and being in the company of her family.
Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Bob Wallenta; children, Linda (Randy) Husman of Oshkosh, WI, Carol (Jerry) Cooper of Kenosha, WI, Sharon (Clay) Johnson of Racine, WI, Thomas (Theresa) Wallenta of Las Vegas, NV, David (Mary) Wallenta of Racine, WI and Cynthia (Bob) Sylvester of Coshocton, OH; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her nieces.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Carroll; and stepmother, Rose Carroll.

May Belle Halford, 82, of Newbern, TN, passed away Jan. 13, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 15 from the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Newbern, TN, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. The Rev. Tommy Jowers officiated.
Mrs. Halford was born July 26, 1922, in Gibson County, TN, the daughter of Evie Ella (Newsom) Pack and Sam T. Pack.
She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Baker's Weona in in Dyersburg, TN, and Mom's Buffet in Newbern.
She was a member of Newbern First United Methodist Church, was a former member and president of Newbern Home Demonstration Club, and was a former member and president for Newbern Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Edward "Pretty Boy" Halford of Newbern, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Betty J. and Steve Harper of Dyer, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Anne Halford of Humboldt, TN and Dr. Eddie Joe and Sara Halford of Crossville; sisters, Juanite Kee of Dyersburg and Anita Morris of Tiptonville, TN; grandchildren, LaWanda Nichols of Bogota, TN, Brandon Wilson of Dyersburg, Kelly Jo Halford of Cookeville and Dr. Wesley Chad Halford of Darwin, Australia; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Mildred Pack.

Edward Koyen
March 13, 1939 - Dec. 27, 2004

Edward "Alan" Koyen, 65, passed away Dec. 27, 2004. A memorial service was conducted Dec. 31 at Franklin Memorial Park in New Brunswick, NJ.
Mr. Koyen was born March 13, 1939, in Rahway, NJ and lived in Metuchen, NJ.
An avid hunter, he belonged to the Metuchen Rod & Gun Club in Pennsylvania and was a builder of trikes and motorcycles. He was a member of the Antique Car Club of America, restoring antique cars.
He graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, with bachelor's degrees in arts and sciences. He was a licensed professional engineer for the state of New Jersey.
He was employed by Aeroil of Hackensack, NJ, for 26 years as chief design engineer, transferring with the company to Crossville in 1995 with his wife, Gail. He retired in 1998 due to illness.
Survivors include his wife, Gail; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Robert Grom and Karyn and Scott Fogel; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Shannon Koyen and Jeffrey Koyen; two sisters; six grandchildren; nieces and a nephew.

Roy Lynn Krouse, 90, formerly of Sarasota, FL and Crossville, TN, passed away in Grove City, OH, Jan. 12, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 15 in Grove City, OH.
Mr. Krouse was born Nov. 24, 1914.
He served his country during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Evelyn and Carolyn.

Dianne Rae (Burgess) Scheffel, 69, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Munster, IN, passed away Jan. 11, 2005.
Mrs. Scheffel was a teacher, retired from Mildred Merkley Elementary School in Highland, IN. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a past member of the Munster Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In recent years, she served as a volunteer with Hospice of Cumberland County. She was a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church who loved music, reading and all the woodland creatures.
Survivors include her children, Jack (Yolanda) Scheffel, Richard (Katherine) Scheffel, Kathy (Roger) Boer, Melinda (Stephen) Zabroski, Mark (Teresa) Scheffel, and Scott (Constance) Scheffel; grandchildren, Jacob Scheffel, Walter Scheffel, Daniel Scheffel, Laura (Michael) Borowiec, Brian (Julia) Scheffel, Jason (Tonya) Boer, Roger (Angela) Boer, Timothy Boer, Mark Scheffel, Robert Scheffel, Kaitlyn Scheffel, Anne Scheffel, William Scheffel, Jeanne Scheffel, Leslie Scheffel and Christopher Scheffel; great-grandchildren, Alivia Boer, Kaelyn Scheffel, Alexander Borowiec and Nicholas Borowiec; sisters-in-law, June (Richard) Thomas and Lois Scheffel; brother-in-law, Walter (Dorothy) Scheffel; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many dear friends; and her faithful canine companion of many years, Nipper.

She has been involved with many activities besides being a homemaker. She has been a church youth worker where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, was a Girl Scout leader and an avid softball player, coached girls youth softball and worked at the Huddle House. She had worked as a dental assistant to Dr. J. Randall Crowder.

Mr. Pugh was born Aug. 7, 1916 in Cumberland County, the son of John and Maude Pugh.

Joshua Hunter Goins was born and passed away Jan. 4, 2005 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
He was the son of Pastors Marty and Tammie Goins of the Shady Vale Church of God in Pikeville.
He is survived by his brothers, Jared and John; sister, Katherine Grace Goins; grandparents, Freddie and Becky Gilbert of Chattanooga and Bud and Nancy Goins of Sale Creek, TN; and great-grandparents, the Rev. Billy and Peggy Hedgepath of Boaz, AL.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home Jan. 8. The officiating ministers were Pastors Marty and Tammie Goins. Special song was performed by Julia Burgess of Crossville and interpretive worship in song was performed by T.R.O.O.P.S. Express Worship Team from the Shady Vale Church.
Burial was at the Standifer Cemetery in Hamilton County.

Robert Joseph Yanarella passed away Jan. 9, 2005. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
Mr. Yanarella was born April 15, 1924 in Beacon, NY, the son of Luca and Catherine (Masi) Yanarella.
He was employed by National Biscuit Co. for 42 years as a printing pressman and foreman in Marseilles, IL. He also worked for the Marseilles Press. He was an active member in the American Legion, Lions Club, Methodist Church and Fairfield Glade Bass Club. He was a veteran of World War II, for which he received a Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Medal. He was a volunteer fireman in Beacon, NY and at Fairfield Glade. He also drove a community club bus for Fairfield Glade.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Yanarella of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Patricia (Michael) McLeod of Sterling, IL; son, Daniel (Joni) Yanarella of LaFayette, LA; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, William, Michael and Albert; and sister, Mary.

Florence Rautio
March 25, 1916 - Dec. 23, 2004

A stay-at-home mom, Florence Rautio devoted herself to her immediate and extended family. She made herself available to help anyone who needed assistance. She was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and went to live in her parents' homeland of Finland as a child. She returned to finish high school in Hancock, MI. Even today numerous Finnish words that she used are part of her family's vocabulary.
Widowed in 1982, she lived many years in Houghton Lake, MI, where she maintained a lakefront home that featured the only "stand alone" sauna in the area. The memories of long, hot sauna baths with quick dips in the ice water and then a meal of her wonderful pasties (with lots of ketchup) will remain with her family forever.
In 1997, she moved to Port Haven Manor in Port Huron, MI, near to her daughter, Donna. Her failing health in 2004 necessitated a move to the WyndRidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crossville near her daughter, Doris, where she passed away.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Margret Rautio of Chassell, MI; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Gary Ruetenik of Fairfield Glade and Donna and Dennis King of Port Huron, MI; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bruce Wolck of Lake Linden, MI; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ahti Rautio.
She will be truly missed, not only because she was a great mother, but because she was a wonderful, giving person.

Paula Kay Elmore Brooks, 44, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 2, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 5 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Bro. Dave McCammon officiated, with special music by Austin Brooks.
Mrs. Brooks was born Oct. 30, 1960 in Cumberland County, the daughter of J.C. and Elsie Joseph Elmore.
She was manager of the Huddle House and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Brooks of Crossville; son, Joshua Brooks of Crossville; daughters, Stephanie and Stacey Brooks of Crossville; grandchild, Lathen Harrison; mother, Elsie Elmore of Crossville; brothers, Randy and Steve Elmore of Crossville; and sisters, Deba Turnbow of Cookeville and Rose Mary Houston of Crossville.
Pallbearers were Tennessee State Troopers, David Roark, Capt. John Eldridge, Lt. Kendall Riley, Lt. Victor Donoho, Sgt. Joe Agee, Chris Aclove and Edd Barnwell.
Honorary pallbearers were Shane Joseph, Dustin Brooks, Austin Brooks, Bob Hinch and Jim Goolsby.

Pauline O. Harper
Nov. 27, 1928 - Dec. 30, 2004

Pauline Odessa Harper, 76, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 30, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 2, 2005, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Don McCool officiated with special music by LaCleda McCool and Muriel Hall.
Mrs. Harper was born Nov. 27, 1928 in Bellview, TN, the daughter of Homer and Ollie Myers Godsey.
She was a factory worker for Avery-Dennison and a member of First United Pentecostal Church. Her hobby and life was taking care of her children.
Survivors include her son, Edward Harper of Hattiesburg, MS; daughters, Gail Smith of Crossville, Claudette Wyatt of Haynesville, LA and Teressa Chastaine of Crossville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Will of Cleveland, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Lee Harper; son, Lowell Harper; and daughter, Dorthy Harper Jernigan.
Pallbearers were Eric Jernigan, Matt Jernigan, Josh Jernigan, Joseph Wyatt, Bob Atchley, Taylor Atchley, Derek Atchley, Robert Smith and Scott Tabor.

Hubert Ingram

Hubert Ingram, 76, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 20, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 22 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. Bro. Luther Massengale officiated.
Mr. Ingram was born Jan. 24, 1928 in Cumberland County, the son of William Arthur and Nora Vaughn Ingram.
He was self-employed as a laborer. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his sister, Bonnie Wheat of Crossville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Herbert Ingram; brothers, Lester, Howard and Dewey Ingram; and sister, Ocia Haney.
Pallbearers were Coy Ingram, Leroy Ingram, Joe Lane, Thomas Lee, Gene Elmore and Hank Ingram.

Emma Jane Owens Slaven, 66, of Clarkrange, passed away Dec. 31, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 3, 2005, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Ralph Reagan officiated, with special music by Donnie Shelton and Clinton Shelton.
Mrs. Slaven was born March 30, 1938 in Cumberland County, the daughter of James Caston Brown and Agnes Lee Stevens Brown.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Slaven of Crossville; daughter, Susie Owens of Crossville; grandchildren, Amanda, William and Barbara; brothers, James Lee Brown of Crossville, Clinton Brown of Pikeville, Robert Brown of Crossville and David Brown of Crossville; and sisters, Betty K. Brown of Crossville, Patsy Ruth Polk of Macon, GA, Ernestine Johnson of Crossville, Jo Ann Shelton of Pleasant Hill, Brenda Jones of Crossville and Sandra Parker of Crossville.
Pallbearers were Jerry Brown, Dana Woody, Robert Ray Brown, James Woody, Zack Woody, Jessie Brown, Anthony Woody and Joey Woody.

Adolphus Krank

"Frank" Adolphus Krank, 79, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 29 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. Bro. Luther Massengale officiated.
Mr. Krank was born March 22, 1925 in Pine Hall, KY, the son of Hugh and Viola Mae Spears Krank.
He was a retired Merchant Marine and a member of the DAV, VFW Post 5025 and American Legion. He loved gardening and canning his harvest.
Survivors include his sons, Shawn Krank and Shae Krank, both of Crossville, and Dennis Krank of Muskogee, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Johnny Patrick of Ft. Gibson, OK; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Kenny and Jean Gunter and Willie and Christine Burgess, all of Crossville.
The DAV served as pallbearers.

William H. Smith

William H. Smith, 86, of Dayton, OH, passed away Jan. 2, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with visitation from 2-3 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was a native of Crossville. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps stationed in Calcutta, India and retired from BG Danis Corporation. He was a devoted member of the Gethsemane Fellowship Church. A devout Christian, he was a devoted husband and a loving father who will be missed by all. He saw good in all he met and always had a kind word to say. He was truly God's angel on earth.
Survivors include his cherished wife of 50 years, Mary Ruth (Polly); son, David E. Smith of Dayton, OH; and daughters, Brenda Brady of Huber Heights, OH, Vicky Pennington-Auyupov of Riverside, OH, Rhonda Molen of Riverside, OH, Pamela Adkins of Salt Lake City, UT and April Tobias of Huber Heights, OH. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy H. Smith.

Mr. Hurst is survived by his father, Charles Hurst of Hendersonville; and brothers, Timothy Hurst of Portland and Brian (Mary) Hurst of Hendersonville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Hurst; and grandparents, Frances and Henry Hurst and Frank and Vivian Hughes.

John R. McLoud
Feb. 29, 1928 - Dec. 26, 2004

John Rufus McLoud, 76, of Sevierville, TN, passed away Dec. 26, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 30 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Justin Arbogust and Richard Gasser officiated. Full military honors were provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. McLoud was born Feb. 29, 1928 in Madison County, AR, the son of John and Martha Ames McLoud.
He was retired from the military where he served in Korea with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bernice McLoud of Sevierville; daughter, Donna Elaine McLoud, of Sevierville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ira and Iris Sherrill, Buster and Sue Wolf, Paul and Billie Ray Wolf and Leonard Wolf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
Pallbearers were Iva Lee Norris, Jacob Norris, Justin Norris, Frank Blackstone, Travis Frasier and Rick Bullard.
