Jerry Donny Baisley, 48, of Crossville, passed away March 20, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Bill Roberts officiated, with special music by Scott Cunningham.
Mr. Baisley was born Nov. 28, 1954 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of James Andrew and Mary Jewell Mathes Baisley.
He was a logger and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Shelton Baisley of Crossville; sons, Shawn Baisley, Justin Baisley and Alan Cooper, all of Crossville; daughters, Kristi Hedgecoth of Crossville, Misti Scott of Sparta and Donna Baisley of Crossville; grandchildren, Joycelyn Scott and Starr and Kevin Hedgecoth; mother, Jewell Baisley of Crossville; brother, Danny Baisley of Crossville; and sisters, Peggy Morrison of Crossville, Mary (Connie) Hoffert of Athens, TN, Janet Baisley Moore of Crossville, Darlene Dalton of Crossville and Frances Barr of Atlanta, GA.

Fairzina Beyer
March 17, 1913 - March 19, 2003
Fairzina "Zina" Beyer, 90, of Crossville, passed away March 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 23 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Lantana Cemetery. The Rev. Roland Smith officiated, with special music by the Smith Sisters.
Ms. Beyer was born March 17, 1913 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Alfonzo and Rintha Hyder Beyer.
She was a nurse's aid and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Gene Beyer of Crossville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Brewer of Crossville; and brother, Orville Taber of Huber Heights, OH.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rozetta Carver; son, Marvin Beyer; sisters, Rosanell Hughes, Minnie Carver, Martha Jane Smith and Flossie Beyer; and brothers, Herman Myers and Vernon Beyer.
Pallbearers were Mike McClanahan, Ricky Engle, Shaun Engle, Shannon Carver, Keith Salsbury, Randy Echols, Greg Engle and Phil Hixon.

Arnold W. Brown
Jan. 12, 1925 - March 19, 2003
Arnold Wilburn Brown, 78, of Crossville, passed away March 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. Bros. Steve Watts, Tim Watts and Oliver Flowers officiated, with special music by Hwy. 127 South Church of Christ singers.
Mr. Brown was born Jan. 12, 1925 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Wilburn and Ida Kerley Brown.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Hwy. 127 South Church of Christ. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Houston Brown of Crossville; son, Charles W. Brown of Crossville; daughter, Carolyn Emery of Crossville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Roy Brown of Crossville and Carl Brown of St. Cloud, FL; and sisters, Violet Kerley of Crossville and Rosalee Phiffer of Murfreesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Martin and Glenn Brown; and sisters, Pauline Frady and Lois Rogers.
Pallbearers were Pete Bradley, Oliver Blaylock, Tim Kerley, Leon Brown, Ted Campbell and John Tollett.

Dorothy June Parks, 61, of Sparta, TN passed away March 21, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Eliot Roberts officiated.
Mrs. Parks was born June 18, 1941 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Grady Lee Lawson and Vinia Mae Blaylock Lawson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Donnie Parks of Crossville, Lonnie Parks, Steve Parks and Scottie Parks, all of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Joy Flagg of Franklin, TN, Sherry Parks and Sharon Crockett, both of Crossville; father, Lee Lawson of Sparta; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Osie Lawson of Crossville and Jerry Lawson of Pleasant Hill; and special sister-in-law, Judy Waldo of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Mack Parks; mother, Vinia Lawson; and brother, Joe Lawson.
Pallbearers were Vernon Miller, Stanley Miller, Michael Miller, Travis Waldo, Josh Lawson and Darrell Parks.

Selmalee Harrison
Oct. 25, 1911 - March 22, 2003
Selmalee Harrison, 91, passed away March 22, 2003. She was born October 25, 1911 to George Edgar and Elsa Gernt Harrison in Jamestown, TN. In 1920, her family moved to Crossville and bought the house at 62 Old Mail Road, where she lived until her death.
She was a 1930 graduate of Cumberland County High School.
She was employed in several of her family's business endeavors, including the Mecca Theater, Harrison Motors, and TAP, Inc. She later served as president of the board of directors of Plateau Properties, Inc. She was, during her working years, a member of Crossville's Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was also known for her many years of service as a Pink Lady at Cumberland Medical Center.
Ms. Harrison was a devoted member of First Christian Church where she is remembered for her casseroles, her generosity and by generations of the church's children as a beloved Sunday school teacher and hostess of the church's annual Easter egg hunt.
The children of her family treasured the privileges of hearing one of her original stories or receiving one of her famous birthday cakes. Although she had none of her own, her love for children extended beyond those of her family and her church. A measure of that love could perhaps be found by lining up the popcorn balls she had made over the years for the children who came to her door on Halloween. The line would surely reach into another county.
Her wit and sense of humor were legendary, and, as her doctor, her therapist, the devoted caregivers of her declining years and her last visitors will affectionately attest, remained intact almost as long as she could still speak.
She is survived by her sister, Audrey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mabel; and five brothers, Cosby, George Jr., Jesse, Arthur and an unnamed infant boy.
Funeral services were held at First Christian Church. The Rev. George Long officiated, with interment in Crossville City Cemetery on March 26.

Emily J. Martin
Aug. 8, 1930 - March 19, 2003
Emily Jean Martin, 72, of Crossville, passed away March 19, 2003. Graveside services were conducted March 24 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush, NY. The Rev. Roger Martin officiated.
Mrs. Martin was born Aug. 8, 1930 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of Marjorie Moulton Westfall and John A. Westfall.
She was a catalog manager for JC Penney and a member of Deerpark Reformed Church. She was also a member of the Fidelis Triangle in Port Jervis.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Martin of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Lisa Martin of Rochester, NY, the Rev. Roger and Pamela Martin of Salt Lake City, UT, Gary Martin of Crossville and Randall and Annette Martin of Milford, PA; brothers, Donald Westfall of Port Jervis and Harold Westfall of Godeffroy; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie Moulton Westfall and John A. Westfall.

Uldean B. Skinner, 77, of Crossville, passed away March 21, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 24 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Todd McDonald officiated.
Mrs. Skinner was born May 6, 1925, in Pickett County, TN, the daughter of Sam and Lenora Parsons Neal.
She was a nurse's aid and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Bowman and Jimmy and Barbara Bowman, all of Crossville; daughter, Karen Skinner of Florida; sisters, Doris Sisco, Pauline Cox and Leora Albertson; brothers, Potter Neal and Troy Neal; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jess C. "Bud" Skinner; and infant daughter, Charleene Bowman.
Pallbearers included William Wyatt, Patrick Studer, Gary Almonrode, Jody Thomas, Gary Woody and Jerry Woody.

Novel L. Stone
Nov. 29, 1930 - March 21, 2003
Novel Lucille Stone, 72, of Crossville, passed away March 21, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 21 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with graveside committal services held March 22 at Davis Cemetery. Bro. J.T. Davis and Bro. Rudy Oakes officiated, with special music by Wade, Leslie and Clyde Smith.
Mrs. Stone was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of Alton and Ova Scarbrough Mooneyham.
She was a homemaker and a member of Winesap Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Stone of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, William and Terri Stone of Winesap; daughter, Wilma J. Stone of Winesap; grandchildren, Richard Obitts and Melanie Thurman; and great-grandchildren, Guary Wyatt, Dakota Wooden, Mason Walker and Jake Obitts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and Leon Mooneyham.
Pallbearers were Guary Wyatt, Cordell Wyatt, Earl Thomas, Larry Myers, Jr. Norris and Chris Thurman.

Melva K. Strauch
April 11, 1916 - March 15, 2003
Melva Kathryn (Peifly) Strauch passed away on March 15, 2003. A memorial service is planned in Pleasant Hill Community Church for Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Strauch was born April 11, 1916 on Crystal Spring Farm, Schnecksville, PA, the daughter of Irwin and Kate Peifly.
She graduated from South Whitehall High School and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. She taught Latin, English and some math in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She married the Reverend Paul E. Strauch, a United Church of Christ minister, on July 13, 1941. Paul is a resident of May Cravath Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill, TN, where Paul and Melva were residing in Uplands Retirement Village during the last three years.
The Strauchs lived in various places Ñ Freemansburg, PA; Buffalo, NY; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; New Cumberland, PA; Danbury, CT; and in a renovated church house in Perry County, PA.
Melva was an active member in the churches Paul served. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in various places including Americus, GA; for the Newport Public Library for 20 years; and for the Junior Red Cross and Fellowship House in Philadelphia.
She served as president of Church Women United of the state of Pennsylvania, as well as Philadelphia; Danbury, CT; and Newport, PA. She wrote weekly book reviews for three county newspapers in Perry County for 18 years.
Melva is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, John of San Diego, CA; Joel of Larchmont, NY; Timothy of Watertown, WI; and Thomas of Salem, OR; seven grandchildren; and sister, Marion of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Melva chose to die in the Death With Dignity Program in Salem, OR.

Alice M. York

Alice Mae York, 90, of Crossville, passed away March 20, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 22 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with graveside committal services on March 23 at Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Dan Haskins officiated, with special music by granddaughter, Samantha Harden.
Mrs. York was born April 4, 1912 in Fentress County, TN, the daughter of Robert and Rosa Voiles Thompkins.
She was a member of Homestead Baptist Church and very active in the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Avery C. and Sharon York Jr. and Hassell Ray and Elizabeth York, all of Crossville; daughter, Anna Rose York of Athens, GA; sisters, Lena Voiles of Dayton, OH and Ester Freels of Sunbright, TN; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Edward H. Huber

Edward Herman Huber, 84, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 15, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with burial in Church Columbarium. Father Greg Neuzil will officiate.
Mr. Huber was born Aug. 24, 1918 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Herman and Mary Schertler Huber.
He was a machine shop manager for Proctor & Gamble and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was in the 20th Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Hall Huber of Fairfield Glade; son, Mark Huber of Fairfield Glade; and sisters, Kay Niklas and Vera Wright of Cincinnati, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Glassmeyer.

Eugene D. Konrek
Jan. 17, 1921 - March 16, 2003
Eugene Donald Konrek, 82, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 16, 2003. A Mass to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, March 19 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 7505 Peavine, Fairfield Glade at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the Mass.
Mr. Konrek was born Jan. 17, 1921 in Dunkirk, NY. He lived in Detroit and Florida for most of his life.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth Konrek; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Kert Olsen of Laguna Hills, CA, Pam and Don Haisman of Fort Myers, FL, Carolyn Konrek of Fairfield Glade and Nancy and Hale Lydic of Nashville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Mary Ann Konrek of Port Hope, MI; grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Juan Carlos Krause-Ramiro, Jeffrey and Julia Krause, Matthew Krause, the late Gary and Sharron Haisman, Paul and Tina Haisman and Laura Haisman; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler Haisman and Dahlia Krause-Ramiro.

John "J.C." McCoy

John "J.C." McCoy, 81, of Rockwood, passed away March 19, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with the Rev. Tom Tapp, the Rev. Denny Moore, the Rev. Jim Whittenbarger and the Rev. Stephen Pickard officiating. Interment will follow in the Ozone Cemetery with military honors by the Crab Orchard VFW. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Evans Mortuary.
Mr. McCoy was a member of VFW Post #9686, Crab Orchard; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; retired minister and stone mason; and active in the Big Emory Baptist Association. He pastored Pomona Baptist Church for 23 years and Daysville Baptist Church for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie McCoy of Rockwood; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Angela McCoy of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Robert Taylor of Andrews, NC, Betty and Jerry Randolph and Jane and Chuck Rector of Crossville; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome McCoy of Crossville; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arley, Lane and Reese McCoy; and sisters, Ann, Lil, Corene and Ginny.

James Murphy Collins, 74, of the Lake Tansi Community, passed away March 8, 2003. Memorial services were held March 13 at the Tansi Community Church. Bro. Jack Irwin officiated.
Mr. Collins was born Oct. 27, 1928 in Premire, WV, the son of Grover Cleveland and Lula Margaret Blevins Collins.
He was a retired builder and special assistant to Congressman Carl. D. Pursell. He was also a Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He loved his building projects and his horses. His love for his grandchildren was foremost.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Collins of Lake Tansi; son, Jeffrey Anderson of Livonia, MI; daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia Scherlitz of Plymouth, MI, Patricia and James Caldwell of Canton, MI and Karen Crum of Dallas GA; grandchildren, Alexandria Crum, Amanda Crum, Bryanne Caldwell, James Scherlitz, Willard Chambers and Sheri Bergerson; and great-grandchild, Derrick Bergerson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Harp; brothers, Ivan, Robert, Clarence and Kenneth Collins; and sisters, Mae Mongeau and Louise Grassel.

Mr. Elmore was born Oct. 5, 1926 in Tullahoma, TN, the son of G.V. and Alline Overall Elmore.
He was retired president of the real estate and insurance firm, Bryan, Ward, & Elmore Inc. of Nashville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of John B. Garrett Lodge F & AM and all York Rite Bodies.

Mrs. McCowan was born April 10, 1924 in Monterey, TN, the daughter of John Bailey and Margaret Ford Walker.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Godsey was born June 18, 1923 in Rhea County, TN, the daughter of Oliver and Julie Burns Daniels.
She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Baisley was born Dec. 17, 1912 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Eston Kelly and Martha Emily Elmore Wilbanks.
She was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Baptist Church, being a Christian for many years. She enjoyed sewing and loved to quilt.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Emilene and Bill Cline of Crossville; sisters, Estelle Edwards of Knoxville, Pearl Williams of Kentucky and Norma Gamble of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Steve and Kent Cline of Crossville; and great-grandson, Joe Cline of Crossville.

James Edward Cowart, 75, passed away March 7, 2003. Funeral services were held March 12 from the chapel of Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA, with burial in Eastside Cemetery. Dr. H. William Perry officiated.
Mr. Cowart was born in Statesboro, GA. He moved with his family to Atlanta, GA in 1938. He attended Georgia Tech and Southern Tech in Atlanta.
He was a World War II veteran, having flown for the U.S. Navy. He worked as a manufacturing manager for the Lockheed Georgia Company in Marietta, GA and in Chattanooga, TN. In 1981, he moved to Brownwood, TX to work for FMC Corp. as a plant manager, and later transferred to Houston, TX.
He was a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Ennis Cowart of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Gayle Cowart of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Cathy Cowart and Mark and Louise Cowart; and granddaughters, Angela, Erica and Talia, all of Chattanooga, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Leroy and Lois Rackley Cowart; brother, Lt. Leroy Cowart Jr., who survived the Bataan Death March and died in a POW camp in Japan; and sisters, Martha Cowart Davis and Clotilde Cowart Lowe.

Pansy "Jane" (Sherrill) Oberg

A loving mom with a sense of humor, even at the end; you will be greatly missed.
Teacher and homemaker, Mrs. Oberg died March 2, 2003 at age 70. Born in Crab Orchard, Tennessee in 1932, she was homecoming queen at Cumberland County High School (CCHS 1950). In 1954, she received a B.A. in English from Berea College and taught at CCHS for a year. She worked for R.R. Donnelly in New York where she met her husband, Professor Winston Oberg, in Central Park. They moved to East Lansing, Michigan in 1957. She received her M.A. in English from Michigan State University in 1980. She accompanied her husband on teaching assignments to Leeds, England, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and Oslo, Norway.
In her local community, she was elected Park Commissioner for Meridian Township (1980-1984) and was a member of the Okemos No Name Book Club for thirty years. She loved to square dance, read, travel and paint Rosemal.
Mrs. Oberg's death was preceded by her husband, Dr. Winston Oberg; her daughter, Elizabeth Jane "Liza" Oberg; sisters, Nell Skean and Connie Davis; and brother, Franklin A. "Army" Sherrill.
She is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and four siblings. Daughter, Kathy Close of Grand Haven, MI; son, Roger Oberg of Carlisle, MA; son, Keith Oberg; daughter-in-law, Rosie Oberg; son-in-law, Michael Close; grandchildren, Erik and Elizabeth Oberg of Carlisle, MA, and Joy, Ben, Katy, Abigail, Abraham, Peter and Jonathan of Grand Haven, MI; two brothers, Edgar L. He was a Business Executive Head Hunter and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid music lover, playing the mandolin and guitar. He jammed with Chet Atkins in Knoxville in the early days of Chet's career.

Albert Edmund VanLandschoot passed away March 2, 2003. Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd, MN.
Mr. VanLandschoot was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Neponset, IL, the son of Marie Carolina Debaker and Camille VanLandschoot, who emigrated from Belgium in 1906.
He married Juanita Hannigan on Dec. 29, 1941. Their 61 years of marriage were full and complete. He had many loving and fun stories to share of their life together.
Mr. VanLandschoot was a home builder in Rock Island, IL until 1966 when he and his wife moved to Crosslake, MN. There they owned and operated Lake Land Realty. They spent their time between the Brainerd area and Florida until the winter of 2002 when they moved to Crossville.

Donald Wyatt, 47, of Pikeville, passed away Feb. 21, 2003 in Vanderbilt Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 23 from the chapel of Putnam Reed Funeral Home in Pikeville, TN, with burial in T.Y. Swafford Cemetery. The Rev. Doyle Ashburn and the Rev. Joey Campbell officiated.
Mr. Wyatt was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vanda Hixson Wyatt; sons, Christopher Shawn Wyatt and Brian Allen Wyatt; daughter-in-law, Melissa Wyatt, all of Pikeville; mother, Louise Wyatt; sister, Elsie Tabor; brothers, Kenneth and Tony Wyatt; nieces, Kelly Barger and Kendra Wyatt; and nephew, Ronnie Tabor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Wyatt; grandparents, Carrie and Edgar Campbell and Robert and Fannie Wyatt; and nephew, Jeffrey Tabor.

Carlos L. Allen
Feb. 18, 1940 - Feb. 17, 2003
Carlos Lee Allen, 62, of Cookeville, passed away Feb. 17, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 20 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, with burial in Burris Cemetery in Jackson County. The Rev. Roger Cooper and the Rev. Dow Allen officiated.
Mr. Allen was born Feb. 18, 1940 in Jackson County, the son of the late Dillard Gaskell and Hazel Bell McDaniel Allen.
He was formerly associated with the University of Tennessee Experimental Station in Cumberland County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Tony Clemmons of Gainesboro, Judy and Dewayne McCloud, Carolyn and Roger Reynolds, Mamye and Jerry Williams, Teresa and Kevin Southerland, and Wilma Eldridge, all of Cookeville; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Allen, and Daymond Allen, all of Cookeville, Raymond Allen of Jackson County and Amos Allen of Algood; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Bowman, Ruby Allen and Mary Evelyn Hunter.
Pallbearers were Shawn Reynolds, William Bean, Randy Eldridge, Frankie and Daniel Allen and Anthony and Brian Hodgin.

Yvonne Mae Davis Potter Aytes passed away Feb. 27, 2003. Funeral services were conducted March 1 at Frankfort Community Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Bro. Junior Nance and Bro. Darwin Nance officiated.
Mrs. Aytes was a member of the Frankfort Community Church.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Dewayne Aytes; son and daughter-in-law, Chester Don and Cathy Potter; daughter and fiancŽ, Karen "Kitty" Kennedy and Gary Darnell; daughter and special friend, Tammie Aytes and Gary Dodson; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Doug Duncan; grandchildren, Mark and Cassie Miller, Sgt. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Potter; infant son, Arlan Shane Aytes; mother, Janie Mae Davis; father, William Daniel "Bill" Davis; sisters, Dora Davis Hawn, Mildred Davis Potter and Imogene Davis Aytes; brothers, Ray and Roy Davis; and special niece and friend, Judy May LeMay.

Richard "Ed" Edgar Gunter, 66, of Crab Orchard, passed away Feb. 24, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Bat Town Cemetery. Bro. Winfield Bevins officiated.
Mr. Gunter was born April 7, 1936 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of William and Myrtle Hall Gunter.
He was retired from maintenance at Franklin Limestone Co. and was a member of the Crab Orchard Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Blaylock Gunter, of Crab Orchard; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jennifer Gunter of Crab Orchard; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Chuck Sherrill of Crab Orchard; granddaughter, Brianna Sherrill of Crab Orchard; brothers, Alan Gunter of Whitehouse, TN, D. Gunter of Goodlettsville, TN and George Gunter of Crab Orchard; and sister, Linda Campbell of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, G.W. and Roy Gunter; and sisters, Marie Gunter and Edna Lee Peters.

Albert William Dinkfelt, 60, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away Feb. 21, 2003. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 11:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 15700 East Warren, Detroit, MI.
Mr. Dinkfelt was retired from DTE Energy, with 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Dinkfelt of Fairfield Glade; daughter and son-in-law, Hollie and Edmund Rudoni of St. Clair Shores, MI; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott Dinkfelt and Shawn and Kathryn Dinkfelt, of St. Clair Shores, MI; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jillian and Jordan Rudoni, all of St. Clair Shores, MI; sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Bob Silva of Ann Arbor, MI and Pamela Dinkfelt of Eagan, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Joanna Dinkfelt.

Hubert "Hugh" Lee Kerley, 76, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 25, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 28, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Bob League officiated.
Mr. Kerley was born Dec. 16, 1926 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Walter and Zona Burgess Kerley.
He was a Business Executive Head Hunter and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his sister, Ruby Tabor, of Crossville; brother, Herbert Kerley of Marietta, GA; and mother, Zona Kerley of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Kerley; and father, Walter Kerley.
Pallbearers were nephews, Tim Tabor, Clyde Thurman, Hollis Burgess, Larry Tabor, Marvin Kerley and Ted Brown.

Melvina Kerley

Melvina Kerley, 77, of Grandview, passed away Feb. 24, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Bro. Mike Kerley officiated.
Mrs. Kerley was born May 6, 1925 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of James Dewey Stafford and Tilda Bell Moles.
She was a factory worker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Hazel Kerley of Grandview, Charlie and Hazel Kerley of Spring City and Byrd and Molly Kerley of Spring City; daughters and sons-in-law, Agnes and Otis Kerley of Crossville, Kathleen and Leonard Fleenor of Illinois, Susie and Danny Clauson of Spring City, Mary Frances and R.C. McGhee of Spring City and Geneva Petersen of Grandview; 21 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Edward Kerley.
Pallbearers were Jim Motoy, Larry Petersen, R.C. McGhee, Shannon Daniels, Byrd Kerley Jr. and Brandon Sherrill.

Helen Mercer Stinnett, 76, of Madison, MS, formerly of Crossville, passed away Feb. 25, 2003. Graveside services were held Feb. 28 at Magnolia Cemetery in Maryville, TN. The Rev. Dave Wilkerson, the Rev. Buddy Keyes and the Rev. Ruppert Maxwell officiated.
Mrs. Stinnett was a native of Chipley, FL and a former resident of Crossville where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had only lived in Madison, MS for a short time.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Scott Joseph and Deanna Stinnett of Houston, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi Stinnett and Robert Mayfield of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Brandon Adams-Mayfield of Bellingham, WA, Brooke Keyes of Petal, MS, Graham Mayfield of Jackson, TN and Julia Moriah Mayfield of Madison, MS; sister, Bonnie Ellis of Lakeland, FL; and brother, Charles Mercer of Las Vegas, NV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.N. and Mattie M. Mercer; husband, Homer Carson Stinnett; children, Alana Sue Stinnett, Stephen Carson Stinnett and Michael Reed Stinnett; and sister, Mary Adams.

Lester B. Wright
May 24, 1919 - Feb. 25, 2003
Lester B. Wright, 83, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 25, 2003. Funeral services were held Feb. 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Dan Haskins Jr. Eulogy was by Ronny Swafford and special music was by Hospice Chaplain Joseph Nilsen.
Mr. Wright was born May 24, 1919 in Monterey, TN, the son of Dillard and Annie Wright.
He graduated from Hume Fogg High School in 1938 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1939 where he achieved the rating of Senior Chief Petty Officer while serving aboard ships in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after World War II had ended.
He was active as a real estate developer and investor in Florida, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee until the time of his death. He was the founder of Suncoast City, a Florida corporation for the development of real estate. He was a member of the American Association of Woodturners and a member of the Cumberland Woodturners in Crossville since its organization in 1997. He was an avid writer and poet, and wrote a weekly column for the Cumberland Times in 1996. He was a member of Cumberland Homestead Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Geraldyne Laubheimer Wright of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phillip Orfield of Gainesville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Lester B. and Nancie Wright Jr. of Kenosha, WI; daughter, Sarah Kelly of Tallahassee, FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Harold Bumbalough of Nashville, Dorothy and Robert Cate of Spartanburg, SC and Patricia and Joseph Schwartz of St. Charles, MO; granddaughter and husband, Theresa and Ross Edwards of Alachua, FL; grandsons, Jay Orfield of Denver, CO, Kyle Orfield and Paul Orfield of Gainesville, FL; and great-grandsons, Dylan Edwards and Parker Edwards of Alachua, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred D. Wright; and sister, Susie Bramlett.
Active pallbearers were Lester B. Wright Jr., Phillip Orfield, Jay Orfield, Kyle Orfield, Paul Orfield, Ross Edwards, Glenn Blaylock and Lewis Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Bentley, Everett Calahan, Everett Elkins, Jim Elmore, Russell Ferguson, Joel Green, Jim Hamby, Dr. Larry Reed, Jeff Smith, Pete Stubbs, Ronny Swafford, Proctor Upchurch, Johnny West, Bill Westerbeck, Hassell Ray York and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
