Josephine Mashak
Feb. 7, 1916 - June 16, 2003
Josephine Mashak, 87, of Crossville, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away June 16, 2003. Graveside services were held June 20 at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
Mrs. Mashak was born Feb. 7, 1916 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Helen Strauss Tikal.
She worked for RMC in manufacturing and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She loved to make crafts, especially for her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Michael Kolad of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, William and Louise Tikal of Hartford, MI; grandchildren, Michelle and Albert Ashworth of Villa Park, IL, Marcia and Brian Kettering of Indianapolis, IN, Karen and Maurice Sanchez of Chicago, IL and Charles Kolad of North Branch, MN; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edward Mashak; and sister, Mary Ann McVay.

Lois H. McCollum
Jan. 28, 1937 - June 22, 2003
Lois Hicks McCollum, 66, of Jamestown, passed away June 22, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 24 from the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown, with burial in Old Barger Cemetery in Tinchtown. Bro. Don Hinds officiated.
Mrs. McCollum was born Jan. 28, 1937 in Jamestown, TN, the daughter of Clary Dee Hicks and Delta Leona Winningham Hicks.
She worked at the Senior Citizens Center and was a cook at Tinch School.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Gene McCollum of Jamestown; sons and daughter-in-law, Barney and Sheri Hicks and Jimmy Lee Hicks, all of Tinchtown; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Strunk) and Richard Bowmer of Jamestown and Lisa (Strunk) and Coy Allen Kidd of Oneida; grandchildren, Ashley (Bowmer) Garrett, Casey Bowmer and Tiffany Bowmer, all of Jamestown, and Coy Daniel Kidd and Chelsey Kidd of Oneida; sister, Sarah Elizabeth (Hicks) Hoover of Crossville; stepchildren, Ronnie McCollum of Dayton, OH, Richard McCollum, Tommy McCollum and Starla Griffith, all of Lapel, IN, Kathy Wilson of Jamestown and Roger Strunk of Oneida; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Junior Dee Hicks; and sister, Lilly Mae Hicks.
Pallbearers were Bennie Hicks, Ricky Honeycutt, Gregory Hicks, William Brown, Jason Brown and Rex Cronwell.

Virginia M. P. Cole
Oct. 29, 1910 - June 16, 2003
Virginia May Phipps Cole, of Pleasant Hill, passed away June 16, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Lane and the Rev. Fay Tucker officiated, with special music by Eternity and Kim Goodwin. Special memories were shared by Jamie Goodwin Taylor, John Goodwin, Mary Stewart Uziel, Billy Wightman, Beulah Hoose, Doug Little, Tom Cole and Brenda Pennington.
Mrs. Cole was born Oct. 29, 1910 in Robertson County, Springfield, TN, the daughter of Luther and J. Lydia Duncan Phipps.
She came to Pleasant Hill in 1927 for treatment of tuberculosis at Uplands Sanatorium. After successful treatment of her illness as a teenager, she began helping Dr. May Wharton and Miss Alice Adshead, who became her mentors.
Mrs. Cole was a graduate of Pleasant Hill Academy where she met and later married Thomas Denton Cole on June 6, 1936. They lived in Pleasant Hill and raised four children: Iris, Dora, Dinah and Tommy. In 1994, Virginia and Denton moved to the Homesteads Community to be near their daughters, Dinah and Dora.
She devoted much of her life to nursing. She was employed at Cumberland Clinic and later at Wharton Nursing Home. She retired in 1975.
Virginia and her husband, Denton, were charter members of Pleasant Hill Congregational Church. At the time of her death, she was the oldest charter member of the church.
Mrs. Cole was a dedicated nurse, a solid member of her community, a beloved mother and grandmother, a writer, nature-lover and had the talent for hand-making beautiful creations for those she loved. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her sisters, Grace Grubbs of Greenbrier, TN, Sarah Little Berry of Pleasant Hill and Margaret Peterson of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Calvin Phipps of Hendersonville, NC; daughters and son-in-law, Iris Cole Miracle of Athens, GA and Dinah Cole and Jim Goodwin of the Homesteads community; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Clada Cole of Sparta; son-in-law, Kylo Lewis of Crossville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Denton Cole; daughter, Dora Catherine Cole Lewis; and sisters, Catherine Biever and Jay Estes.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, John Goodwin, Greg Miracle, Doug Miracle and Kevin Miracle; nephew, Doug Little; and son-in-law, Jim Goodwin.

Bedford A. Newberry
Aug. 11, 1927 - June 16, 2003
Bedford Arnold Newberry, 75, of Crossville, passed away June 16, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Roland Smith officiated.
Mr. Newberry was born Aug. 11, 1927 in Livingston, TN, the son of Ben Carson Newberry and Rebecca Ledford Newberry.
He was in construction and a member of Central Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Cox Newberry of Crossville; son, Robert Newberry of Lincolnton, GA; daughter, Brenda Adams of Aiken, SC; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Kirby Newberry of Cookeville and Bennie and Woodrow Newberry of Crossville; sisters, Flora Hover of Florida, Oleta Cox of Crossville, Anna Shumway of Ohio and Josie Williams of Florida.
In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Simon and Faith, Hope and Charity Newberry.
Pallbearers were Todd, David, Gary, Tommy, Tim, Brian and Jerry Newberry.
Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at Central Baptist.

Julia Ann Riddle, 73, of Crossville, passed away June 11, 2003. A private family service and burial in Algood City Cemetery were conducted.
Mrs. Riddle was born Dec. 19, 1929 in Algood, TN, the daughter of Clarence and Lucy Eldridge.
She was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Riddle of Crossville; daughters, Jill Parsons of Crossville and Sandra Jacobs of Oak Ridge; sons, John Riddle and Danny Riddle of Crossville and Glenn Riddle of Chattanooga; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jack Sutton.

Delley C. Tabor

Delley Cloyd Tabor, 64, passed away June 18, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 20 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Mayland Cemetery. Bro. Freddie Melton and Bro. Brian Collins officiated, with special music by Reba Reed.
Mr. Tabor was born May 22, 1939 in White County, TN, the son of Logan Alonzo and Eliza Venoy Howard Tabor.
He was a production laborer for General Processing and a member of Plateau Rd. Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Clayt Ford of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Tabor of Crossville; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Sue Tabor of Crossville and Kelly and Rendi Tabor of Pleasant Hill; brother-in-law, James Gentry of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Allene and Dr. James Lee of Chehalis, WA; and grandchildren, Tyler Ford and Tiffany and Amanda Tabor.

JoAnne M. Banghart

JoAnne Maxine Banghart, 82, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 15, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 19 at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held June 20 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion, IN.
Mrs. Banghart was born June 4, 1921 in Silver Lake, IN, the daughter of Robert and Lela Grossnickle Snyder.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fairfield Glade United Church and First United Methodist Church in Marion, IN. She belonged to the Lyric Club, was a member of Hostess House and sang with the Cleveland Orchestra and Akron Symphony in Ohio.
Survivors include her son, Larry Banghart of Marion, IN; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kenneth Adams of Rochester, MI and Betsy Banghart of Crossville; sister, Rosemary of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren, Kenny Adams, Melissa Adams, Emily Volk and Benjamin Hallberg; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb Winchester, America Winchester, Regan Winchester and Madison Winchester.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Banghart; brother, Bob Snyder; and sister, Jane Cook.

James C. Custred
James C. (Jim) Custred, 72, of Hendersonville, has passed away. Funeral services were conducted June 20 from the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home. Interment followed at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
Mr. Custred was a retired Master Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force and an account executive with General Ventilation.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Custred; sisters, Beatrice Custred and Nancy Bilbrey; and brother and sister-in-law, U.K. and Linda Custred.
Family and friends served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were employees of General Ventilation.

Edith J. Dowell

Edith Jean Dowell, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 11, 2003.
Visitation services were held June 14 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dowell was born Nov. 19, 1923 in Scott County, VA, the daughter of Lester and Stella Compton Elliott.
She was very outgoing and was loved dearly by family and friends. She greatly enjoyed quilting and sewing. She also loved playing bridge and other card games.
Survivors include her sons, Lawrence Keith of Warner Robbins, GA, David Keith of Crossville and Tony Keith of Monterey, TN; daughters, Janice Dowell of Charlottesville, VA and Allen Dowell of Fairfield Glade; brother, Larry Elliott of Newport News, VA; sisters, Alta Murphy of Greenbelt, NC, Clarice Enix of Newport News, VA, Mildred Suits of Hampton, VA, Gwen Jobe of Richmond, VA and Linda Steffey, Gate City, VA; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Annie Lou Rector, 96, of Crossville, passed away June 15, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 18 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Bowman Cemetery. Charles Barnes officiated, with special music by her grandchildren and Charles Barnes.
Mrs. Rector was born Aug. 6, 1906 in Crossville, the daughter of Tom and Hattie Goss Adams.
She was a homemaker and a member of Full Gospel House of Prayer. She enjoyed planting her garden and canning.
Survivors include her sons, William Rector and Thurman Rector; daughters, Willeane Clark, Geraldine Sharp and Joyce King; 24 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle Adams; and sister, Pearl Tabor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Avery and James Rector; three brothers; four sisters; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ricky Clark, John Rector, Tommy Clark, Chris Rector, Casey Rector, Jackie Rector, Corey Rector, Cade Rector, Chris Clark and Josh Clark.

DeWayne L. Robinson
Jan. 2, 1956 - June 16, 2003
DeWayne Larry Robinson, 47, of Crossville, passed away June 16, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 19 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Davis Cemetery. Bro. Joe James officiated.
Mr. Robinson was born Jan. 2, 1956 in Nashville, the son of Chester and Mozelle Coffman Robinson.
He was superintendent at Super Premier Homes and was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Lynn Williams Robinson of Crossville; son, Dwayne "Bub" David Robinson of Crossville; daughter, Julie Robinson of Crossville; grandson, Ethan Wesley David Robinson of Crossville; mother, Mozelle Farley of Crossville; father, Chester Robinson of Berea, OH; brothers, Dennis and Doug Robinson of Crossville and Steve Robinson of Gallatin, TN; sisters, Donna Potter of Crossville and Debbie Morris of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Oscar M. Corn Jr.
Aug. 30, 1932 - June 12, 2003
Oscar McKinley Corn Jr., 70, of Crossville, passed away June 12, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Dr. Dan D. Haskins Jr. officiated, with special music by Chris South.
Mr. Corn was born Aug. 30, 1932 in Epworth, GA, the son of Oscar M. Corn Sr. and Cora Sanders Corn.
He was retired from a military career in the U.S. Air Force, having served in Korea and Vietnam, and was retired from Vendale Co. He was also a member of Homesteads Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Beadle Corn of Crossville; daughters, Sandy Runnestand of Katie, TX, Barbara Jean Carlton of Florida and Patricia Angel of Crossville; son, Kenneth Wayne Corn of Broken Arrow, OK; sisters, Ruby Howard of Memphis, Ruth Barcowski of Atlanta, GA, Grace Ann Corn of Epworth, GA and Eddie Lee of Atlanta, GA; and brothers, Tommy, Frank and Johnny Corn of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kermit Corn; and sisters, Mildred Baggett and Dorothy Corn.
Pallbearers were Hoyt Evans, Jud Payne, Joel Green, Danny Hassler, Bill Johnston and Elwood McDonaldson.

John D. Randolph
Jan. 1, 1928 - June 14, 2003
John "Johnny" Doyle Randolph, 75, of Ft. Pierce, FL, passed away June 14, 2003. Interment was in Green Acres Memory Gardens in Crossville.
Mr. Randolph was born Jan. 1, 1928 in Crossville, the fifth son of T.S. and Nettie Croft Randolph.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during high school. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went on and completed his education. Johnny became president of the National Acceptance Company in Atlanta, GA. He retired at the age of 55 and moved to Florida where he enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his son, Randy Randolph of Tennessee; daughter, Debby Randolph of Tennessee; sisters, Zella Hamby of Crossville; sisters-in-law, Marie Randolph of Crossville and Bette Jean Randolph of Ft. Myers, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Brown and Ruth Cobb; and brothers, Bill, Keggy, Chester and Dick Randolph.

Nettie M. Vaughn
Aug. 11, 1907 - June 10, 2003
Nettie Mae Vaughn, 95, of Saline, MI, passed away June 10, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Tolletts Chapel Cemetery. Bro. David Wilkerson officiated.
Mrs. Vaughn was born Aug. 11, 1907 in Cleveland, GA, the daughter of Lewis and Maranda Anderson Fields.
On March 17, 1949, she married Austing Vaughn, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1999. She had been a custodian at the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Faye Britton of Saline, MI; stepdaughters, Edna Jacksoin of Dayton, OH and Katie Hobby of Nashville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Mima Carson of Saline, MI.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Carson; daughter, Juanita Tabor; stepchildren, Paul and Silas Vaughn; and nine sisters and brothers.
Pallbearers were Bruce Carson, McKinley Tabor, David Tabor, Lee Bailey, Brian Carson and Randy Hendricks.

James V. Bradley

James Victor Bradley, 53, of Crossville, passed away June 9, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 11 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona Cemetery. The Rev. Roland Smith officiated, with special music by Scott York.
Mr. Bradley was born July 19, 1949 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Victor and Lizzie A. Mathes Bradley.
He was a plant worker at Elixir Company and of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Randolph Bradley of Crossville; daughter, Michelle Spurrier of Crossville; son, Loyd Sherrill of Crossville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Rayborn of Cookeville, Betty Limburg of Crossville and Juanita Mackie of Cookeville; and brothers, Walter Paul Bradley of Crossville and Ben Bradley of Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Taft Bradley and William Arthur Bradley; and sisters, Roxie Lena Smith, Alma Gail Bradley and Rosellen Bell.

Thomas J. Hammons Jr.
Dec. 6, 1928 - May 31, 2003
Thomas Joe Hammons Jr., 74, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 31, 2003. Memorial services were held June 4 at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiating.
Mr. Hammons was born Dec. 6, 1928 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Thomas Joel Hammons Sr. and Lola May Jones Hammons.
He was a truck driver for Ryder Truck Co. and of the Methodist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lou Hammons of Fairfield Glade; sons, Tom J. Hammons III of San Diego, CA and Mark Hammons of Windsor, CO; daughter, Wendy Newcastle of Denver, CO; and sisters, Marian Farlow and Virginia Smith of Diamond Head, MS.

Roger N. McClure
Oct. 4, 1920 - May 30, 2003
Roger Nelson McClure, 82, passed away May 30, 2003. A memorial service was held June 7 at Fairfield Glade Community Church. Interment was in the church columbarium.
Mr. McClure was born Oct. 4, 1920 in Glasgow, WV, the son of Clarence and Ida McClure.
He was a resident of Fairfield Glade since 1985 and had formerly lived in North Canton, OH. He played football at Virginia Tech and received an engineering degree in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army and was a captain in World War II. He worked for Union Carbide, Tennessee Products and retired as vice president of Ohio Ferro-Alloys, Canton.
He enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer and sports fan. He was a member of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, the Masons, the American Society of Metals and Fairfield Glade Community Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lucille McClure; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Charles Dalby of Ramer, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Roger N. Jr. and Cheryl McClure of North Canton, OH; sisters, Ruth McCann, Helen Wilcox and Joanne Arthur; stepdaughter and son, Beverly and Hal Darnold; five beloved grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha McClure.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to the Fairfield Community Church.

Isla June Partlo, 90, of Crossville, passed away June 3, 2003.
Mrs. Partlo was born June 16, 1912 in Ashland Corner, MI, the daughter of John and Mabel Anderson McKinley.
She was a lab supervisor for the Michigan State Health Department and a member of the Congregational Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Shepler of Fairfield Glade; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Beatrice George of Grant, MI.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, George L. Miller and Raymond Partlo; and son, James L. Miller.

Freda Millicent Schultz, 88, formerly of Tampa, FL, residing in Wharton Nursing Home, passed away June 5, 2003.
Mrs. Schultz was born July 11, 1914 in Edmonton, Canada, the daughter of Joseph and Clara Whiting Spandon.
She was an accountant and of the Episcopalian faith.
She is survived by her niece, Patricia Stanaland Freeman of Crossville.

Juanita Shultis, 63, of Crossville, passed away June 12, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 15 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Richard Disseler officiated.
Mrs. Shultis was born July 8, 1939 in Angola, NY, the daughter of Harry and Grace Davidson.
She was a waitress.

Mr. Stocko was born April 22, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the son of Anthony and Rose Jachim Stocko.
He was a sales representative and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of VFW and the American Legion.

Mrs. Lewis was born Feb. 25, 1911 in White County, TN, the daughter of Frank and Vada Isenberg Cope.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Baptist Tabernacle. She married Ralph Leslie Lewis July 21, 1928; Leslie passed away November 1997.

Robert Joseph Betterton Sr., 68, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 3, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 6 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery in Sparta, TN. The Rev. Russ Corley officiated.
Mr. Betterton was born Nov. 26, 1934 in Nashville, TN, the eldest son of E.Q. and Pauline Moore Betterton.
Before graduating from Buchtel High School in Akron, OH, he became an all-state athlete. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Tarawa during the Korean Conflict. In 1958, he and Alexandra (Sally) were married. Mr. Betterton graduated from Kent State University in 1959 and began working for the JC Penney company in Cuyahoga Falls, OH later that year. He has had a distinguished career of 35 years and retired in 1995 at North Little Rock, AR, where he was the store manager. Robert and Sally moved to Fairfield Glade to be near their family and enjoy the golf. He had been active in Rotary and Jay Cees at various locations. He was a member of JC Penney's retirement club, HCSC.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Alexandra (Sally) Bell Betterton of Fairfield Glade; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and James Holliday of Cartersville, GA; grandchild, James Christopher (Jimmy) Holliday of Cartersville, GA; sister, Dorothy Ann Sibley of Orlando, FL; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Betterton Jr.

Bettye Kemmer Davenport, 80, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 4, 2003 after years of various physical problems relating to Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis. Funeral services were conducted June 7 at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiated.
Mrs. Davenport was born Jan. 5, 1923 in Crossville, the daughter of John C. Kemmer Jr. and Ruth Robinson Kemmer.
She went away to boarding school at age 13 and graduated as valedictorian from high school at age 17 in 1936. Even with the offer of various scholarships from several Northern universities, she attended Gulf Park College in Gulfport, MS and then transferred to the University of Tennessee, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1947.
At the university, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She won honors and recognition in many areas from beauty contests to athletic events.
She married Carroll "Shadow" Davenport and they moved to Crossville after they graduated from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Davenport was very active socially in Crossville and was considered a lady by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son, C. Douglas Davenport Jr.; grandchildren, C. Douglas Davenport Jr. and Caroline M. Davenport, all of Atlanta, GA; and sister, Heiskell McCall of Gulfport, MS.

Catella DeVore, 98, of Crossville, passed away June 9, 2003. Mrs. DeVore was born March 28, 1905 in Newport, TN, the daughter of Vernium C. and Effie Smith.
She was a teacher, secretary, retail clerk and housewife. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Crossville.

Mr. Lowe was born Oct. 8, 1958 in Dayton, OH, the son of Emma Oakes and Kenneth William Lowe Sr.
He was owner and operator of The Lifters Club Fitness Center in Oak Ridge, TN. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He became rooted to the fitness needs of the Oak Ridge community in 1992. He was determined to make The Lifters Club comfortable for the young, the old and the amateur as well as the highly competitive fitness enthusiast.
Survivors include his daughter, Lecherisha Dawn Hall of Crossville; mother, Emma Lowe of Crossville; brother, Kenneth Wayne Lowe of Crossville; sister, Diana Lynn Lowe of Crossville; and grandmother, Lois Oakes of Crossville.

Mr. Reed was born Aug. 23, 1933 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Floyd and Mary Irene Sanks Lytle Reed.
He was retired from Duriron Co. in Dayton, OH as an inspector and a member of Isoline Baptist Church. Mr. Reed was born on Bearden Mountain and enjoyed going back there to hunt for ginseng. He was founder and director of "Friends of Bluegrass" in Dayton and loved playing the banjo as well as many other instruments. He had many interests and hobbies in life which included fishing, woodworking, traveling and participating in the Christmas parades, but his most treasured pastime was visiting with family at their home.

Charles R. Stover, 91, of Cookeville, formerly of Clarkrange, passed away June 8, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Jennings Funeral Homes, Clarkrange Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Clarkrange Cemetery in Fentress County. Bro. Bobby Floyd will officiate.
Mr. Stover was born May 22, 1912, in Overton County, TN, the son of Alex Martin Stover and Myrtle Melissa Ruble Stover.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and worked in construction.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie V. Bridgman Stover of Cookeville; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Johnson of Cookeville, Margaret and Roger Lewis of Monterey, Linda Beaty and Hazel and Phillip McCanless, all of Cookeville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Howard Stover of Temple, GA and Hank Stover of Alpine, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Jean and Carl Crabtree; and son, Charles Gary Stover.
Pallbearers were Chris Lewis, Jason Beaty, Charles Johnson, Bryan Crabtree, Tylor Young and Evan McCanless.

Luther C. Davis, 70, of the Mt. Helen community, passed away June 3, 2003.
Mr. Davis retired from Pyromet Industries in Muncie, IN. He was an active member of Round Mountain Baptist Church, where he served as trustee for many years. He was a member of the Little Crab Masonic Lodge #614. He enjoyed country life and when in good health was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved God, family and country.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie "Lewis" Davis; mother-in-law, Amy Lewis of Fairborn, OH; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Carol Davis of Newburgh, IN and Billy R. and Dorothy Davis of Crossville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Veda and Buzz Goodman of McMinnville, TN, Maxine and Allen Watkins of Crossville and Corrine and Ruble Conaster of Jamestown, TN; sisters-in-law, Rosie Davis of Warren, MI, Marie Davis (Ralph) of Rockport, IN, Marie Davis (Frank) of Muncie, IN and Heather Davis of Grosse Pointe, MI; brother-in-law, Andy Warren of Jamestown, TN; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Rev. Clayton O. England
Dec. 23, 1922 - June 3, 2003
The Rev. Clayton Olmus England, 80, of Crossville, passed away June 3, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Mt. Union Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Swallows and the Rev. Johnny Bertram officiating. Interment will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Fentress County.
The Rev. England was born Dec. 23, 1922 in Fentress County, TN, the son of George Corbin and Cora Jane Padgett England.
He was a member of Woody Freewill Baptist Church. For over 55 years, the Rev. England was a Freewill Baptist minister and served as pastor for eight churches: Portland Freewill Baptist, Woody Freewill Baptist, Union B. Freewill Baptist, Faith Chapel Independent Baptist, Sunnybrooke KY Freewill Baptist, Ridgedale Freewill Baptist, Tyler Point Freewill Baptist and Jonesville Freewill Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Mable Elmore England of Crossville; sons, Billy and Doyle England; stepsons, Reed, Tim and Glen Henry, all of Crossville; daughters, Oma Lee Denny and Judy Conley, both of Monterey, TN; stepdaughters, Sharon Edwards of Crossville and Karen Beaty of Monterey; sisters, Myrtle Farr of Clarkrange and Geneva Lane of Crossville; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Flossie Miller England; brother, Club England; and sister, Mary Jane England.
Pallbearers will be Arvin Vaughn, Goodman Thompson, Herbert Ashburn, Joe Carr, Leamon Swallows and Andy Honeycutt.

Valeria M. Hall
Oct. 22, 1919 - May 27, 2003
Valeria Mabel Hall, 83, of Crossville, passed away May 27, 2003. Funeral services were conducted May 30 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. George Long officiated.
Mrs. Hall was born Oct. 22, 1919 in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Elbert and Martha Ellen Wilson Simcox.
She was a licensed practical nurse who had worked at Cumberland Medical Center and was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Tabor and Judy Smith, both of Crossville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Frank Simcox of California and Carl Simcox of Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L. Hall; and brother, Olaf Simcox.
Pallbearers were Barry Tabor, Danny Tollett, Mike Smith, Jerry Smith, Scotty Robinson and Roy Turner.
Honorary pallbearer was Ray Robertson.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Shriners Transportation.

James M. Hamby
Sept. 11, 1916 - May 30, 2003
James Martin Hamby passed away May 30, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 4 from the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with interment following in the Slate Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Hamby was born Sept. 11, 1916 to Noah Martin and Stella Hyder Hamby. He married Bernice B. Henry, daughter of Louis R. and Tena M. Henry, in Crossville on Sept. 10, 1938.
During his lifetime he cut timber and farmed in Tennessee, worked in the oil fields and Illinois and worked at Cudahy Meat Packing Co. in Utah. After returning to Crossville, he retired from General Processing Plant. He was active in scouting, enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1955, he was sealed to his wife and three children, for all time and all eternity, in the LDS Temple in Logan, UT.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hamby; children, L. Austin Hamby and wife, La Rue, of Crossville, Thelma H. Smedley of Bountiful, UT and Tony M. Hamby of Carmichael, CA; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and one great-grandson.

Jessie J. Jones
July 8, 1913 - May 29, 2003
Jessie Josephine Jones, 89, of Crossville, passed away May 29, 2003. Funeral services were conducted May 31 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Danny Smith officiated, with special music by Danny Smith.
Mrs. Jones was born July 8, 1913 in Lignite, VA, the daughter of Robert B. Rudisill and Mary Elizabeth Nicely Rudisill.
She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was married to William Leftridge Jones. They moved from Virginia to the Homestead Community. She was a resident of WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center for 13 years.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who was loved very much and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her children, Jackie Jones and his wife, Helen, of Crossville, Libby Kemmer and her husband, Jimmy, of Crab Orchard and Danny Jones of Crossville; grandchildren, Sherry Denton and her husband, Roger, Vickie Aytes and her husband, Bill, Jim Kemmer and his wife, Rhonda, Tom Kemmer and his wife, Anita, Tim Jones, Pam Grant, Amy Headrick and her husband, Jimmy, Kristie Turbett and her husband, Billy and Ashley Jones; great-grandchildren, Brandi Patrick and her husband, Jeff, Jimmy Ray Denton, Travis Wiley Aytes, Chris, Todd, Elizabeth, Sami and Sarah Kemmer, Jeremy Grant, Ryan and Dylan Headrick, Kayla and Christopher Turbett; great-great-grandchildren, Chase Houston, Hunter Denton and Tyler Breeding; nephew, Sonny Rudisill of Virginia; and sister-in-law, Ollie Jones of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Leftridge Jones; brother, Odell Rudisill; brother-in-law, Freeman Jones; and niece, Mary Lou Cisco.
Pallbearers were Roger Denton, Jimmy Ray Denton, Tim Jones, Jim Kemmer, Tom Kemmer and Bill Aytes.

Christopher A. King
June 23, 1963 - May 25, 2003
Christopher "Chris" Allen King, 39, of Crossville, passed away May 25, 2003. Funeral services were conducted May 27, with Bro. Todd McDonald officiating. Graveside committal services were held May 28 at Pugh Cemetery.
Mr. King was born June 23, 1963 in Davidson County, TN, the son of Edward Lipscomb and Norma Carlene Pugh King.
He worked locally as an auto mechanic and loved fishing, camping and the outdoors.
Survivors include his father, Edward King of Atlanta, GA; mother and stepfather, Carlene and George Perkins of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Michele King of Franklin, TN; brothers, David King of Tracy City, TN and Eric King of Nashville; sister, Angela King Powers of Brentwood, TN; and grandfather, Walter Pugh of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth "Beth" King.
Pallbearers were David King, Eric King, John Powers, Steve Pugh, Larry Pugh and Don Pugh.

Gerald W. Boland

Gerald Wilbur "G.W." Boland, 83, of Crossville, passed away May 30, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. June 3 from the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville, with the Rev. Roger Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Boland was born July 1, 1919 in North Clymer, NY, the son of Ray and Mable Beckerink Boland.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Marks Corner United Brethren Church in North Clymer, NY.
Survivors include is wife of over 63 years, Marie M. Delcamp Boland, whom he married Feb. 7, 1940 in Brockon, NY; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Vernon Clyatt of Fort Meade, FL, Elaine Havlik and Diane and Dan Owens, all of Crossville; brother, Everett Boland of North Clymer, NY; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roger Boland.
Mr. Boland's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 East Adams, Crossville, TN 38555.

Lucinda Webb, 71, of Pikeville, passed away June 1, 2003. Visitation will be held June 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. CDT at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home in Pikeville. Funeral services will be held June 4 at 2 p.m. CDT in the chapel, with Minister Phil Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
Mrs. Webb was a member of Cold Springs Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Craig Mercer of Pikeville; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Joyce Webb of Crossville and James and Cathy Webb of Pikeville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Smith of Cleveland, TN, Marie Singleton of Kissimmee, FL and Francis Davis of Dayton, TN; brothers, Carlos, Ross and Norman Mathis, all of Dayton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark L. Webb; and brother, Stanley Mathis.
