Donald Alexander Brown, age 70, of Taylor's Chapel Rd., died
Oct. 25, 2001. Funeral services were held Oct. 28 from the chapel
of Bilbrey's Funeral Home with burial in Taylor's Chapel Cemetery,
Bros. Hyle Waldo and Larry Robbins officiating.
Mr. Brown was born June 6, 1931, in Cumberland County, the son
of Oza and Cordie Belle Catron Brown. He was a Cumberland County
Road Department employee and member of the Vandever Baptist Church
and had been a minister for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Brooks Brown; sons Jerry Brown
of Jefferson City, Gary Brown of Auburn, KY, and Larry Brown,
Bruce Brown and Danny Brown, all of Crossville; and daughters
Katherine Parris of Crossville and Donna Patterson of Sevierville.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
sisters Edna Bertram, Mable Lewis and Dorothy Lewis, all of Crossville;
and brothers William (Buddy) Brown and Wayne Brown, both of Crossville.
Pallbearers were grandsons Terry Brown, Eric Brown, Joe Brown,
Will Brown, Jeffery Brown and Travis Patterson.

Effie Horn, 85, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 28, 2001. Funeral
services were conducted Oct. 30 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral
Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. David Wilkerson
officiated.
Mrs. Horn was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Crossville, the daughter
of Curtis and Lee Ann Elmore Farmer.
She was a secretary, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sue
Brown of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Lillian
Farmer of Knoxville; granddaughter, Vickie Hicky of Rockledge,
FL; grandson, Shannon Brown of Crossville; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Horn; grandson,
Curtis Andrew Brown; brothers, Clarence Farmer, Herbert Farmer,
Rudolph Farmer and Ralph Farmer; and sister, Marie Cook.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Horn's nephews, Bobby Farmer, Lowell Farmer,
Owen Cook, Michael Farmer, Keith Farmer and Stanley Farmer.

Andrew Ralph Kemmer, 60, of Rockwood, formerly of Crossville,
passed away Oct. 31, 2001. Graveside services with full military
honors and interment were held Nov. 4 in Grassy Cove Cemetery,
with the Rev. Charles Liles officiating.
Mr. Kemmer was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Cumberland County.
He was a former truck driver with the Tennessee Highway Department,
and was of the Methodist faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of
the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his mother, Sarah Kemmer of Rockwood; sons,
Randy Johnson, James Rector, Andrew Kemmer Jr. and James Kemmer,
all of Crossville; daughter, Patricia Kemmer of Crossville; sisters
and brother-in-law, Jeanetta Hamby of Rockwood and Barbara and
Ron Ireson of Jonesborough, TN; nine grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh E. Kemmer; and brother-in-law,
Clarence Eugene "Jim" Hamby.

Thomas Larry Powell III, age 3 months 16 days, of Crossville,
passed away Oct. 28, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Oct.
31 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Pomona
Cemetery. Bro. Bratton Tucker officiated, with special music
by Ann Turbett.
Thomas was born July 12, 2001, in Dade City, FL, the son of Thomas
Larry Powell II and Nicole Parkhurst Powell.
Survivors include his parents, Thomas and Nicole Powell of Crossville;
sister, Jazlyn Nicole Powell; grandfather, Larry Parkhurst of
South Carolina; grandmother, Renee Millwood of South Carolina;
grandfather, Thomas L. Powell I of Pleasant Hill; grandmother,
Diane Dayton of Florida; and great-grandparents, Floyd and Bess
Dayton of Crossville and Mary Earlene Powell of South Carolina.

Helen Margaret Mary Bertram Skiles, 77, of Monterey, passed away
Nov. 2, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted today, Nov.
6, at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, with burial in Green
Acres Memory Gardens. Roland Smith will officiate, and special
music will be presented by members of Mrs. Skiles' family.
Visitation will be today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Skiles was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Downers Grove, IL, the
daughter of Frances Swabe and Fredrick Bertram.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, George Skiles of Monterey; daughter,
Margaret Lee of Monterey; sisters, Evelyn Labor, Agnes Bertram
and Mary Patterson, all of Wickenburg, AZ; brother, Harry Bertram

Emma Ruth Duff, 70, of Harriman, TN, went to be with the Lord
on Nov. 6, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 7 from
the chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman, with the Rev. Randy
Maxwell and Ken Isham officiating. Interment was Nov. 8 at Roane
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Duff was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Harriman, the daughter of
Victor and Oma Oran.
One of her great loves was her 40 years of service at South Harriman
Baptist Church. She served as Sunday school and Training Union
teacher and as WMU leader. She wrote and directed choir and children's
programs and was pianist and organist for many years.
She was secretary at Bowers Elementary School and owner/operator
of House of Flowers in Harriman and Kingston, TN. She participated
in civic activities as well as organizing school activities and
reunions.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Earl Duff; daughter
and son-in-law, Andrea and Boyd Lewis; sons and daughters-in-law,
Tony and Mary Duff, and Tim and Melanie Duff; brother, L.B. Oran
of Harriman; sisters, Mary Bryant of Alabama and Jennie Lee Long
of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Heath Lewis, Jeffrey Lewis,
Emily Duff, Kathleen Duff and Robin Duff. Special loving caretakers

Mrs. Thomas was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Millbury, the daughter
of Henry Emerson and Vicie Alice Overmyer Dissett.
She was a registered nurse, and a member of the Church of the
Nazarene.
Survivors include her daughters, Judith Ann Stewart of Miramar,
FL, Carolyn L. Erdmann of Oregon, OH, and Barbara J. Sandford

Mr. Blaylock was born March 23, 1930, in Crossville, the son
of Mike and Mary Blaylock.
He was a retired night watchman for the county garage.

Matilda Dalton Delaney, 93, of Muncie, IN, formerly of Crossville,
passed away Nov. 17, 2001. Graveside services will be held Saturday,
Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. at Crossville Cemetery.
Mrs. Delaney was born July 25, 1908, in Fentress County, TN.
She was one of the "original Homesteaders" in Crossville.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Montie
Dalton, and David and Sue Dalton, all of Muncie; sister, Nora
Copeland of Jamestown, TN; daughter-in-law, Jackie Dalton; five
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Gilbert Ray Dalton
of 26 years, and William Sherman Delaney of 20 years.

He was a retired employee of the H&H Machine & Tool Co.,

Theodore L. Laesch

The Rev. Dr. Theodore L. Laesch, 66, of Fairfield Glade, passed
away Nov. 3, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 8 at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niles, MI, with burial in Riverview
Cemetery in St. Joseph, MI.
The Rev. Dr. Laesch was born July 20, 1935, in Benton Harbor,
MI, the son of the Rev. and Mrs. E. Theodore Laesch.
His childhood was spent in Niles, MI, where his father was pastor
of St. Paul Lutheran Church from 1931 to 1981.
After attending Concordia College in Milwaukee, Pastor Laesch
entered Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, from which he graduated
in 1960. During this time he received his bachelor of arts, bachelor
of divinity and master of divinity degrees. An additional year
was spent in the graduate school of St. Louis Seminary, majoring
in New Testament studies, working toward his master of sacred
theology degree. In 1994, he received a Doctor of Divinity degree
from Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, and in 1998,
a Doctor of Law degree from Concordia University, River Forest,
IL.
Following his vicarage/internship in San Francisco, CA, and following
ordination into the pastoral ministry in 1961, Pastor Laesch
became missionary pastor in the area of Monroe, NY, a suburb
of New York City, where St. Paul Lutheran Church was born. Early
in 1969, Pastor Laesch accepted the call to become senior pastor
at St. John Lutheran Church, Wheaton, IL, where he served until
his election as president of the Northern Illinois District of
the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1985.
Besides serving as president of the Northern Illinois District
until 1997, Pastor Laesch served for six years as chairman of
Synod's teacher placement committee, and for 10 years as chairman
of Concordia University, River Forest, Board of Regents. He also
served actively in speaking and preaching ministries, and as
a contributor to various religious publications and periodicals.
The Laesches retired to Fairfield Glade in 1999, and are members
of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Crossville.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; daughters and sons-in-law,
Carolyn and the Rev. William Rusnak, Ruth and Stephen Swanagin,
Christine and the Rev. Scott Malme, and Elizabeth and the Rev.
Paul Schult; son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Theodore Jr. and
Mary Laesch; and 11 grandchildren. The children are all graduates
of Concordia University, River Forest.

with burial in Tollett Cemetery.
Visitation will be today, Wednesday, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from

Mr. Tollett was born June 30, 1928, in Pikeville, the son of
Casto and Bessie Parham Tollett.
He was a member of Luminary Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elva Etherton Tollett;

Pikeville and Brenda Tollett and Tommy Henry of Crossville; granddaughters

Edward B. Wilkins

Edward B. "Buddy" Wilkins, 67, of Crossville, passed
away Nov. 8, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 10 at
Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, TN, with Jim Taylor
officiating. Interment was in Williamson Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wilkins was born April 17, 1934, in Chattanooga, TN.
He graduated from Peabody High School and entered the U.S. Air
Force. He served as cameraman and lighting director for WSM-TV
and general manager of Opryland Production. He retired in 1992
after 13 years as manager of Opryland Duplicating Service. He
was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Pewitt Wilkins; daughter
and son-in-law, Cindy and Don Lorenzo; son and daughter-in-law,
Bryant and Janet Wilkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mr. Wilkins' great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers
were members of the Jekyll Island Golf Team.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the
American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Brown was born July 29, 1925, in Cumberland County, the son
of Fred Allen and Lola Mae Harding Brown.
He was a civil engineer with Martin Marietta, and a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II.

Linda McGraw of Crossville; brothers, M.L. Brown of Greenville,
SC, and Bill Brown of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Elizabeth Cline of

son of Ford and Nina Sweetland Cramer.
He was a factory worker for Kelsey Hayes. He grew up around Lime
Creek, MI, spent most of his adult life in Somerset Center, MI,
and moved to Crossville in 1981.
Survivors include his sister, Hallie VanDerSalm of San Diego,
CA; and brother, Max Cramer of Coldwater, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Nina Sweetland
Cramer; brothers, Van Cramer, VonDana Cramer, Dexter Cramer and

of his life with his grandchildren.

Leonard Eugene "L.E." Cody, 89, of Jamestown, TN, passed
away Nov. 19, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 23 from
the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown, with burial
in Fentress Memory Gardens. Bro. Arthur Nance Jr. and Bro. Harold
Slaven officiated.
Mr. Cody was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Fentress County, the son of
Virgle and Zona Hill Cody.
He was an electrician and plumber. He and his wife, Willie Cody,
were owners and operators of the L&W Drive-In for 21 years.
Mr. Cody was also owner and operator of Cody's Septic Tank Cleaning
Service.
He served in the U.S. Army as a tank driver, 759th Tank Battalion,
Third Army, under Gen. Patton. He was in campaigns across France
and Germany, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge during
the winter of 1944-'45. At war's end he was honorably discharged.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Johnson Cody of Jamestown;
sons, Gustas Benton "G.B." Cody of Jasper, GA, and
William Lloyd Cody of Jamestown; daughters, Carolyn Sue Walker
of Clarkrange, TN, Bobbye Ruth Garrett of Muncie, IN, and Jessie

Juanita Allison Smith, 68, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 21,
2001. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 24 from the chapel
of Putnam-Reed Funeral Home Inc. in Pikeville, TN, with burial
in Humble Cemetery.
Ms. Smith was born Oct. 24, 1933, in Pikeville, the daughter
of Althea and Gordon Allison.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Kay Cagle of Crossville;
son, Terry Allen Smith of La Vergne, TN; sisters, Elizabeth Millard
of Cleveland, TN, and Mary Faye Coker of Texas; brothers, Ike
Allison of Crossville, James Howard Allison of Michigan and Conrad
Allison of Pikeville; grandchildren, Edward Lynn "Chip"

Jimmie Tollett, 61, of Lufkin, TX, passed away Nov. 22, 2001.
Funeral services were conducted Nov. 24 in the Gipson-Metcalf
Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, with the Rev. R.G. "Bud"
Davis and the Rev. Greg Coon officiating. Interment followed
in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Tollett was born April 6, 1940, in Crossville, the son of
George Finas and Mary Ann Sherrill Tollett.
He was a telephone contractor of Splicers Inc. He attended First
United Pentecostal Church in Lufkin, and had been a resident
of Lufkin for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Tollett of Lufkin; daughters
and sons-in-law, Kristin and Dwayne Fredregill of Huntington,
TX, and Kelli and Philip Price of Lufkin; son, Tony Tollett of
Dayton, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Maxie and Joe May of Charlotte,
NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Juanita Tollett of
Conroe, TX, Eddie Tollett of Crossville and Estle and Millie
Tollett of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Amanda Tollett, Kyle Tollett,
Brandon Tollett, Katelyn Tollett, all of Dayton, OH, and Rhett
Price and Sadie Price, both of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews
and other relatives.

Mrs. Farr was born March 17, 1926, in the Oakgrove community,
TN, the daughter of Walter and Ida Rich Garrett.
She was a homemaker.

Mr. Hall was born Nov. 4, 1957, in Berea, OH, the son of Jessie

Mr. Johnson was born April 17, 1933, in Bryson City, NC, the
son of Wadesel and Lora Belle Carson Johnson.
He was a press operator at Crossville Rubber Products, and a
veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his sons, Buddy Johnson and Gene Johnson, both
of Crossville; daughter, Dene Johnson of Crossville; brother,
Earl Johnson of Pikeville, TN; sisters, Bernice Jones, Alene

Mrs. Norrod was born March 2, 1938, in Newport, TN, the daughter
of Aubrey and Mary Oma Ramsey Holt.
She was a beautician, and a member of Mayland Nazarene Church.

Margaret Hood of Kingsport, TN, and Betty Green of Crossville;
