Arvia Louise "Lou" Baisley, 93, of Crossville, passed away June 24, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Mayland Cemetery. Bro. Tom Upshaw and Bro. Eliot Robert Jr. officiated.
Mrs. Baisley was born July 30, 1909 in Putnam County, TN, the daughter of Jack and Rachel Wyatt Madewell.
She worked in a school cafeteria and was a member of Mayland Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Albert Baisley of Loudon, TN and Ralph Baisley of Crossville; daughter, Doris Jean Cline of Nashville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Clayton Madewell of Crossville and Payton Madewell of Akron, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Virgil Baisley; brothers, Allen and H.D. Madewell; and sisters, Mertie Weeks and Jewell Hargis.
Pallbearers were Michael Cline, Lane Madewell, Gary Baisley, Michael Baisley, Kyle Baisley and Andrew Baisley.

Harold Green, 81, of Crossville, passed away June 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Cold Springs Cemetery. Bro. Leon Baldwin officiated.
Mr. Green was born Aug. 2, 1921 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Arvil and Emmie Mullins Green.
He was a laborer and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Effie French Green of Crossville; daughters, Marie Smelcer of Crossville, Erma Oates of Knoxville and Vonda Neal of Crossville; son, James Green of Crossville; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Warren, Ezra and Billy Clinton Green; brothers, Wesley, Taft, Clay, Stanley, George and Albert Green; and sister, Mae Freeman.
Pallbearers were Greg Green, Gary Green, Marvin Green, John Neal, Terry Burke and Tim Baldwin.

Beatrice M. Hansen
March 22, 1921 - June 25, 2003
Beatrice Margaret Hansen, 82, of Pleasant Hill, passed away June 25, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 29 at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, with interment in the Fairfield Glade Community Church Columbarium. Dale Marshall officiated.
Mrs. Hansen was born March 22, 1921 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
She was a clerk and was a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church.
Survivors include her son, Timothy Hansen of Royal Oak, MI; daughter, Kathleen Hansen of Dalton, GA; sister, Mary Oltman of White Lake, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert L. Myers, 61, of Okolona, KY, passed away June 26, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 29 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Larry Sawyer officiated.
Mr. Myers was born Feb. 13, 1942 in Crossville, the son of John and Nora Myers.
He was a retired 38-year employee of the Teamster's Union Local 89 where he served as a vice-president.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hancock Myers; son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Melissa Myers of Louisville, KY; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Lee Wilson of Louisville, KY; sisters, Lula Mae Harman on Lexington, KY, Ruth Hunt of Pikeville, KY, Ruby Myers of Louisville, KY and Mattie Rice of Valley, AL; brothers, Paul Myers of Nashville and Ron Myers of Huntsville, AL; and grandchildren, Shawn and Whitney Wilson and Tyler and Jacob Myers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Robert Myers; and brother, James Carthy Myers.

Waymon C. Robbins, 81, of Crossville, passed away June 24, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Clarkrange Cemetery. Bro. Gary Merryman officiated, with special music by Bobby Jones, Renee Wright, Kim Woodson and Rosie Woodson. A presentation of the flag and "Taps" was performed at Clarkrange Cemetery.
Mr. Robbins was born Aug. 21, 1921 in Overton County, TN, the son of Will and Sarah Christine Smith Robbins.
He was a factory worker for Westinghouse and of the Pentecostal faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Merryman of Christianburg, VA, Sharon A. Shelley of Crossville and Robin L. Jones of Elyria, OH; son, Waymon I. "Buddy" Robbins of Crossville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Scroggins Robbins; brothers,
Herbert, Wilburn and Noble Robbins; and sisters, Ava Robbins, Dollie Threet and Ethel Overstreet.

Mrs. Shaver was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Rockwood, TN.
She was retired from Avery-Dennison and was a member of Ozone Baptist Church.

Mrs. Copenhaver was born Nov. 17, 1925 in Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David.

Hella Vera Patenaude, 56, of Crossville, passed away June 29, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 1 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Mike Kerley officiated.
Mrs. Patenaude was born July 17, 1946 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Schlachter and Hilma Rosenberg.
She was a customer service manager at Wal-Mart where she was employed for 11 years. She was also a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Patenaude; sister, Edith Arnold of Nevada; mother-in-law, Leona Patenaude of New York; sisters-in-law and husbands, Deborah and Norbert St. Pierre of New York and Cheryl and Henry Hughes of Crossville; brothers-in-law and wives, Gerald and Evelyn Patenaude of New Jersey, Wayne Patenaude of New York and Timothy and Kerry Patenaude of New Jersey; aunts and uncles, John and Grace Ryan, Lavina Boyer, Irene Lancto and Ernest Patenaude; 11 nieces; eight nephews; five great-nieces; nine great-nephews; and all of her Wal-Mart family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Raymond Patenaude of New York.

Martha S. Raglin

Martha S. Raglin, 88, of the Rockwood Care and Rehab Center, passed away June 28, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 1 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with Bro. Hillary Broome and Bro. Albert Griffin officiating. Graveside services and interment were held July 2 in the Roane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Raglin was a member of the Rockwood Church of Christ.
She was survived by many cousins and devoted friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Raglin; and parents, Dorsey and Etta Smith.

Mrs. Welch was born May 25, 1908 in Pikeville, TN, the daughter of Fildon and Nancy Parker Dayton.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Sherrill was born July 16, 1931 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Beech and Rosie Reed Sherrill.
He was a factory worker for Crossville Rubber Plant and a member of the Church of God. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Barnes Sherrill of Crossville; sons, Sammy Sherrill Jr. and Tony Sherrill, both of Crossville; daughters, Carolyn Barnett and Betty Jean Sherrill, both of Crossville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ruth Oakes of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James "Bunk" Sherrill.

He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW.

Mr. Crews was born Feb. 26, 1924 in Roanoke, VA, the son of William and Georgianna Rollyson Crews.
He was a sales manager for the Charles Bruning Co. and a member of the Fairfield Glade Community Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanore "Ellie" Mayne Crews of Fairfield Glade; sons, Kit Crews of Brentwood, TN, Tom Crews of San Diego, CA and Bill Crews of Switzerland; five grandchildren; and brother, Russell Crews of Florida.

Mrs. Luther was born Feb. 24, 1917 in Dixon, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Mary Ward.
She was a licensed practical nurse and of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Davenport was born Aug. 30, 1922 in Crab Orchard, the daughter of Benjamin H. Norris and Evie Buttram Norris.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Crab Orchard Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include her husband, Woodrow Davenport of Crossville; sons, Jerry, James and Ben Davenport, all of Crossville; daughters, Ellen Garrison, Helen Randolph and Sue McClaran, all of Crossville; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, A.J. Norris of Crossville.

Mrs. Christiansen was born July 10, 1925 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the daughter of Robert C. Brown and Jessie Banks Brown.

Mrs. Bilbrey was born Sept. 19, 1913 in Overton County, TN, the daughter of J.V. and Margaret Smith Sells.
She was retired from the Cumberland County school system as a teacher.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Julia and Al Elmore of Crossville and Georgia Mann of Tullahoma, TN; grandchildren, Kristia Holden of Tullahoma, Kimberly Smith of Lebanon, Sue Sanders of Hartsville, TN, Tanya Williams and Derrick Williams, both of Crossville and Terry Williams of Grandview; great-grandchildren, Kory Holden, Jade Williams, Shawn Williams, Eli Sanders, Josh Sanders, Joe Sanders, Mack Sanders and James Mann.

Mr. Dodson was born July 13, 1927 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Walter E. Dodson Sr. and Lenice Cook Dodson.

Janet Louise Hargis, 68, of Crossville, passed away July 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 22 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Hale's Chapel in Vandever. Wayne Brock officiated.
Mrs. Hargis was born April 29, 1935 in Englewood, OH, the daughter of Maurice and Laura Groff.
She was a homemaker and a member of Gospel Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Hargis; children, Chris Rettig of Harrisville, PA, Rex Rettig, Darryl Rettig, Darlene Casey and Connie Emberton, all of Dayton, OH; stepson, Jeffery Hargis; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Dale Arthur Stricklin, 64, of Crossville, passed away July 7, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 12 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Father Greg Nuezil and Deacon Joe Solis officiated. Burial will be Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
Mr. Stricklin was born Aug. 7, 1938 in Marked Tree, AR, the son of Jesse and Estelle Griffin Stricklin.
He was a retired Master Chief, having served 21 years in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the China Post of American Legion, Moose Lodge Chief Officers Association and the Bounders RV Club. He had many hobbies including wood working, computers and time spent on the road in his RV.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Stricklin of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Donna Stricklin of Green Bank, WV; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Craig Cornwall of Delevan, NY; grandchildren, Sistina Allen, Tara Stricklin, Steven Stricklin II, Megan and Kevin Cornwall, Rudy Lutz and Crystal Stricklin; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Halterman Thorin and Kaylie Allen, Aria Lutz, Anthony Smith, Rian Smith and Reanna Smith.

Jim E. Tolliver, 75, of Crossville, passed away July 10, 2003. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 26, at Faith Worship Center, 95 McLarty Lane, Crossville. Pastor Wayne Shrom will officiate.
Mr. Tolliver was born March 21, 1928 in Lynch, KY.
He was retired from Spector Freight and was a member of Faith Worship Center. He was a loving father and husband and an avid rabbit hunter.

Mrs. Pyles was born June 2, 1954 in Fentress County, TN.

Mrs. Agee was a member of Patton Center United Methodist Church and was a loving mother and homemaker.

Mr. Cutting was born Sept. 13, 1933 in Jennings, LA.
He was a retired contractor.

Steve Meers, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away July 25, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 29 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with interment in U.S. National Cemetery. Minister Waymon Summers officiated.
Mr. Meers was a 50-year member of Ridgedale Church of Christ and had served as a deacon for many of those years. He was a 55-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 175 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his sons, Ronald Stephen Meers of Murfreesboro and David Lamar Meers of Wilmington, DE; grandsons, Daniel Meers of Sumas, WA and Ryan Meers of Manhattan, NY; sisters, Pauline Meers of Nashville and Lucille Ezelle of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Cox Meers; three brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Smith was born March 2, 1925 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Gibb and Mary Elizabeth "Nannie" Williams Barnwell.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of Meadow Creek Baptist Church for 57 years.
Survivors include her sons, Billy, Bobby, Lynn, Jimmy and Ronnie Smith, all of Crossville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond, Ernie, Ira, Robert and Willard Sherrill, all of Crossville; and sisters, Gertie Turner of Crossville, Louise Evans and Hattie Lewis of Rockwood, Ruby Sherrill, Sandra Sherrill, Sue Vitatoe, Billie Findley and Carolyn Sparry, all of Crossville.

Vondale Ruth Decker, 70, of Crossville, passed away July 1, 2003. Memorial services were held July 4 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. The Rev. W. Jerry Weeks officiated.
Mrs. Decker was born Aug. 15, 1932 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Harold William and Mabel Henrietta Freeman Bock.
She was a seamstress for J&J Factory Outlet and a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. She was also a member of Ladies of the Elks, serving twice as president.
Survivors include her husband, James Decker of Crossville; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Decker of New York, NY and Patricia and Steve Vandemark of Defiance, OH; son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Jean Decker of Mentor, OH; brother, Warren Bock of Perrysburg, OH; sisters, Maxine Swing of Toledo, OH and Lucille Pote of Carneys Point, NJ; and grandchildren, Nicholas and Kelsey Vandemark and Emily and Patrick Decker.

Clayburn Lawson, 72, of Glade Creek, TN, passed away July 3, 2003. Graveside services were conducted July 6 at the Glade Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Lawson was born May 20, 1931 in Glade Creek, TN, the son of the late Albert and Lena Belka Lawson.
He worked in the coal mines at an early age. Moving to Ohio, he worked 20 years with Pepsi. Moving back to Tennessee, he worked as a timber cutter, with the Sparta Spoke Company and as a custodian in the Cumberland Cove community.
Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Bradshaw of Sparta, TN, Tina Street of Springfield, OH and Beverly Meadows of Sparta, TN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Jean Wrightman of Pleasant Hill; and brothers, Gary "Doby" Lawson and Bobby Gerrald Lawson, both of Glade Creek.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Lawson; and brother, Clifton "Buster" Lawson.

Dixie Muriel "Merl" Eldridge, 78, of Crossville, passed away June 21, 2003. Funeral services were conducted June 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. R.K. Chadwick officiated, with special music by the Brown Sisters.
Mrs. Eldridge was born May 11, 1925 in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Homer and Eva Lowe Smith.
She was an employee of Dennison-Carter and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Linda Bogard of Cookeville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Hensley and Betty Chadwick of Crossville; and faithful friends, Maxine Ledbetter and Juanita Gatlin.

Orion C. Miller Sr., 93, of Crossville, passed away June 30, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Alloway. Dr. Dan D. Haskins Jr. officiated, with special music by his great-granddaughter, Sarah Jo McCoy; granddaughter, Katie McCoy; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Miller.
Mr. Miller was born July 16, 1909 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Columbus W. and Barbara Ann James Miller.
He was a carpenter and one of the last surviving original Homesteaders. He was a member of Homesteads Baptist Church and a mason.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ford Miller of Crossville; sons, Orion Miller Jr. of Memphis and Kenneth Miller of Reno, NV; daughters, Margaret Miller of Durham, NC, Josephine Dulaney of Crossville and Barbara Ann Farris of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Wheeler Miller of Grandview and Wesley Miller of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sallie Lucille Dodson Miller; and daughter, Martha Lane Miller.

Hollace Neale Page, 60, of Cumberland County, passed away July 3, 2003. Funeral services were conducted July 7 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial in Smith's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Loren Stephens officiated, with special music by the Church of Christ Singers.
Mr. Page was born April 3, 1943 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Jay T. and Sara Lillie Watley Page.
He was retired after 32 years as director of Surgical Services at Cumberland Medical Center and was the current minister of Pleasant Hill Church of Christ. He dearly loved studying and preparing messages and lessons for his worship services and the love and devotion for his grandchildren was endless. They were his favorite pastime and he greatly enjoyed watching them play ball.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Page of Smith's Chapel; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Neale and Glenda Charlene Page of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Ann and Harold Joseph (Joey) Houston Word of Cherryville, NC; brothers, Jay E. Page of Crossville and Malcolm Page of Smith's Chapel; and grandchildren, Charles William Harris, Taylor Morgan Harris, Sara Page Word, Amanda Michele Page, Joshua Todd Page, Christopher Sean Page and Jordan Blake Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay T. and Sara Lillie Page.

Mr. Retter was born Feb. 26, 1936 in Muncie, IN.
He was a professional musician for over 40 years and was a Wal-Mart associate for five years.
