Roy C. Eller, 69, of Crossville, passed away July 22, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 25 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Joe Pruett and Bro. Glen Goggins officiated.
Mr. Eller was born April 29, 1933, in Cumberland County, the son of Anderson Joe and Flora Mae Dotson Eller.
He had been owner of a service station, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Cleda Lowery Eller of Crossville; son, Larry Eller of Crossville; daughter, Mary Moore of McMinnville, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Colleen Eller of Crossville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Eller, James Eller and Elmer Eller; and sister, Nancy Eller.

Frank Lewis Jr.
Sept. 29, 1951 - July 29, 2002
Frank Lewis Jr., 50, of the Bakers Crossroads community of Crossville, passed away July 29, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 1 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in the Pomona community. Don McCool officiated.
Mr. Lewis was born Sept. 29, 1951, in Crossville, the son of Frank and Agnes Lewis.
He was a diesel mechanic for Reed Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Reed Lewis of Crossville; son, James Lewis; daughter, Kristie, and grandson, Chase, both of Texas; stepson, Michael Stowers of Clarkrange; mother, Agnes Lewis; sisters, Hazel Murphy and Cathy Lewis, both of Crossville; brother, John Lewis of Cookeville; grandmother, Imogene Hill of Harriman; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lewis; and daughter, Teresa Gayle.

Edith Marie Barnes, 82, of Crossville, passed away July 24, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, TN. Bro. Ben Whittenbarger officiated.
Mrs. Barnes was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Roane County, TN, the daughter of Charles Thomas and Mary Ann Hinds Davis.
She was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Chrystal Jackson of Ringgold, GA, and Ann Brendel and Jewell Brendel, both of Crossville; sons, Bill H. Barnes Jr. of Tunnel Hill, GA, and Charles Barnes and Archie Barnes, both of Crossville; sister, Robbie Creech of Chattanooga; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Henry Barnes Sr.

Mr. Bilbrey was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Livingston, TN, the son of Faith and Myrtle Little Bilbrey.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Reba Newsome, Rita Jennings, and Wanda and Danny McGhee, all of Crossville; sons and daughter-in-law, Vance Bilbrey, and Randall and Jo Bilbrey, all of Crossville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Floyd Bilbrey; brothers, Dennis Bilbrey, Albert Bilbrey and Sylvester Bilbrey; sisters, Ruby Bilbrey and Violet Bilbrey; and grandchildren, Rosie Marie and Lawrence Bilbrey.

Linda Bradshaw, 55, of Smyrna, TN, formerly of Crossville, passed away July 28, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 31 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Terry Barnwell officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born June 29, 1947, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Cecil and Ruth Goodner Spurlin.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Bradshaw of Smyrna, TN; daughter, Melissa Melton of Smyrna; brother, John Spurlin of Grandview, TN; sister, Trophy Bristow of Crossville; grandson, Jacob Melton; and several nieces and nephews.

Theodor "Ted" Davis, 96, of Crossville, passed away July 25, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. C.H. Christopher and Bro. Clyde Powers officiated, with special music by Doris Smith.
Mr. Davis was born Aug. 10, 1905, in Mulberry, AR, the son of Joby and Arah Sutton Davis.
He was a farmer, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Davis of Belleville, MI, and Carl Davis, Lawrence Davis and Edward Davis, all of Crossville; daughters, Kathleen Powers of Lafollette, TN, and Gladys Wyatt, Joyce Davis, Glenna Tabor and Janet Johnson, all of Crossville; sister, Rhoda Davenport of Williamsburg, KY; 35 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Martha Louise Leach and Beulah Haston; son, Joby Davis; daughter, Jerleen Hyder; grandchildren, Christopher Davis and Glenn Davis; and great-grandson, Will James Wyatt.

Jessie was born Aug. 31, 1985, in Cumberland County, the son of Jimmy Dixon and Dionna Salts Lopez-Varges.
He was a student, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his father, Jimmy Dixon of Crossville; mother, Dionna Lopez-Varges of Kansas; grandparents, Danny Joe and Mosetta Dixon, and Gene and Brenda Wyatt, all of Crossville; and great-grandmothers, Violet Kowal and Amy Beaty, both of Crossville.

Beatrice Gentry, 77, of Tallmadge, OH, passed away July 8, 2002. Private services were held.
Mrs. Gentry was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Vandever, TN, the daughter of Virgil and Florence Hubbard.
She graduated from Crossville High School in 1943.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles; daughters, Gayle Lynn Jarvis and Debra Charlene Flanagan, both of Tallmadge; brothers, Eli Hubbard of Akron, OH, and Howard Hubbard of Monterey; sisters, Lena Hubbard of Akron and Bernice Wood of Crossville; and granddaughters, Nikki Gentry of Akron, and Jenny Jarvis, Skye Jarvis and Rachel Flanagan, all of Tallmadge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Hubbard and Robert Hubbard.

Mrs. Gernt was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Dequeen, AR, the daughter of Arthur Eugene and Della Lee Hale Akins.
She was an insurance agent for Gernt Insurance Co., and a member of the Episcopalian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Arthur Eugene Gernt of Crossville and Victor Hugh Gernt II of Cookeville; brothers, Donald Ray Akins, Thomas Leslie Akins, James Robert Akins and Charles Edward Akins, all of Crossville; sisters, Gweldia Gennean Gannon of Diamond Bar, CA, Nancy Priscilla Dodgins of Charleston, SC, and Donna "Kitty" Elaine Hale of Crossville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ms. Hendley was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Crossville, the daughter of William Owen and Addie Mae Walker Caruthers.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Crossville First Christian Church.

Mrs. Morrison was born Nov. 14, 1904, in Sussex, NY, the daughter of Louis and Clara Decker Hardin.
She was a librarian, and a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church.

Mr. Sherrill was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Cumberland County, the son of Robert and Laura Edwards Sherrill.
He was a mechanic for TDOT, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Rose and Lucille Stites, both of Crossville; son, Les Sherrill of Crossville; brother, Wilker Sherrill of Dayton, OH; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Simmons was born Sept. 6, 1975, in Cumberland County, the son of Richard and Wanda Phipps Simmons.
He was manager of Domino's Pizza, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Libby Talmadge Simmons of Crossville; son, Dylan Simmons of Crossville; parents, Richard and Wanda Simmons of Crossville; sister, Shawna Simmons of Crossville; and grandparents, Shirley Carey and William Simmons, and Pearl Faye Franklin, all of Crossville.

John H. Weaver, 83, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 30, 2002. Graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery in Asheville, NC.
Mr. Weaver was born March 23, 1919, in Asheville, NC.
He was a former employee of the Asheville Citizen-Times Newspaper Engraving Department and the Nashville Tennessean Engraving Department, where he worked for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 27, 1942, until Oct. 6, 1945. He was a 50-year member of East Nashville Lodge No. 560/F&AM, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Asheville.
Survivors include his wife, Queen S. Weaver of Fairfield Glade; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Anne and Jerry Ezell of Franklin, TN, and Laura K. and Samuel L. William G. Buddy Brown, 75, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 6, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. at Ridgedale Freewill Baptist Church, with burial in Taylors Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Gary Lewis will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta. Mr. Brown will lie in state Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Brown was born May 19, 1927, in Cumberland County, the son of Oca and Cordie Catron Brown.
He was employed at Wagoners in maintenance, and served in the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry during the Korean War.
Survivors include his sisters, Mabel Lewis of Sparta and Edna Burtrum and Dorothy Lewis, both of Crossville; brother, Wayne Brown of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.

Howard Eugene Edwards, 67, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 4, 2002. Funeral services will be held today (Aug. 7) at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial in Haleys Grove Cemetery in Crab Orchard. Curt Coldiron will officiate.

Mr. Edwards was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Crab Orchard, the son of Arthur and Avo Pennycuff Edwards.
He was a retired construction worker and plumber.

Ruby Ethel Seegraves, 84, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 1, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 3 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Bro. Dean Patton, Mrs. Seegraves' grandson, and Bro. Bill Smith officiated, with special music by Robert Frazier, Alton Tabor, Ed Hughes, Darcia Bernabei, Sam Graham and Glenna Patton.
Mrs. Seegraves was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Clarkrange, TN, the daughter of Richard and Pauline Scarbrough Essary.
She was an LPN, and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Bill Burnett of Crossville; daughters, Ozetta Dayton, Glenna Patton and Verdia Henderson, all of Crossville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Thomas Floyd Burnett and Claude Seegraves; sister, Myrtle Copeland; and brothers, Homer Essary and Alonzo Essary.

Otis R. Sherrill

Otis Ross Sherrill, 77, of Grandview, TN, passed away July 27, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 30 at Reeds Chapel Church of God in Grandview, with the Rev. James W. Shannon officiating. Burial was in Reed Cemetery in Grandview.
Mr. Sherrill was born May 12, 1925, in Cumberland County, the son of Quiller and Lela Mathis Sherrill.
He was self-employed as a laborer in the rock quarry business, and was a member of Reeds Chapel Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Sherrill of Grandview; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Shirley Sherrill of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Winona Sherrill of Chattanooga, Jean and Ronald Ledford of Piqua, OH, and Becky and Ray Cunningham of Grandview; brother, Elmer Sherrill of North Ridgeville, OH; sisters, Alma White and Cleta Reed, both of Grandview, and Bessie Geyer and Myrtle Webster, both of North Ridgeville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Charles Weidner Jr.
Feb. 16, 1935 - Aug. 4, 2002
Charles Weidner Jr., 77, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 4, 2002. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with Kenneth Alan officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
Mr. Weidner was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Columbus, OH, the sons of Charles G. and Esther Borror Weidner.
He graduated from the Ohio State College of Engineering, and was a retired civil engineer with the Ohio Department of Transportation, and a bridge engineer with the Bureau of Bridges in Ohio. He was U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was past president of the Columbus Engineers Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Weidner of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughter-in-law, Russell and Karen Weidner, and Michael Weidner; daughter and son-in-law, Donnette and Eric Arrington; sister, Jean Hedges; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Sarah Weidner, Matt Maxwell, Jason and Tiffany Weidner, Joe Weidner, Jani and Jeff Hunt, Riley Arrington, Sarah Weidner and Kristen Weidner; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janette Weidner; and sister, Virginia Minnameyer.

Gary D. Baetz

Gary Dean Baetz, 69, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 2, 2002. A memorial service was conducted Aug. 4 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Long officiating. The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard of Robbins Air Force Base provided military honors of presentation of the flag, firing detail and "Taps."
Mr. Baetz was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Smith Center, KS, the son of William Carl and Florilla Innes Baetz.
He was retired as colonel from the U.S. Air Force, having served 1955-'81.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Lanier Baetz of Crossville; son, William Guy Baetz of Albany, NY; brothers, William John Baetz of Williamsburg, VA, and Robert Lee Baetz of Branson, MO; and grandchild, Tyler Glidewell of Titusville, FL.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Naples.

Grace Marian Chipps, 90, of Crossville, passed away July 30, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 5 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Bill Smith officiating.
Mrs. Chipps was born March 15, 1912, in Bear Lake, MI, the daughter of Roy and Margaret Alsing Bradford.
She was employed in the fabric department for Kmart, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons, Russell Chipps of Detroit, MI, Robert Chipps and Richard Chipps, both of Crossville, David Chipps of Hartland, MI, Thomas Chipps of Winter Springs, FL, and Raymond Chipps of Melbourne, FL; daughters, Arlita Blount of Palm Bay, FL, and Carol Brady and Kathleen Lewis, both of Crossville; sisters, Helen Zinnecker and Margaret Peters, both of Michigan, Betty Dodman of California and Mavis Hubbell of Florida; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Patricia Hope Miller, 74, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 4, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 7 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jonathan Crumley and the Rev. Heather Landrus officiating.
Ms. Miller was born July 19, 1928, in Hudson, IN, the daughter of Russell R. and Martha Louise Chipman McClish.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Garrett, IN, and was a retired candy maker with Kraft Food Company.
Survivors include her sons, Randal D. Miller of Indianapolis, IN, and David R. Miller of Crossville; daughters, Vicki L. Hodge of Toledo, OH, and Karen E. Toohill of Pensacola, FL; brothers, Vaughn McClish of Crossville and Glen McClish of Butler, IN; sisters, Lilah Steele of Wabash, IN, and Mary Mendenhall of Montpelier, IN; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Merlee Brand, Ida Green and Betty Diosdado; son, Ricky Allen Miller; and great-granddaughter, Lilliana Jolie Pena.

Keith Curtis Simmons, 26, of Crossville, passed away July 19, 2002. Funeral services were conducted July 22 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Glen Franklin and Bro. B.J. Brown officiated.
Mr. Simmons was born Sept. 6, 1975, in Cumberland County, the son of Richard and Wanda Phipps Simmons.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Libby Tallmadge Simmons of Crossville; son, Dylan Simmons of Crossville; parents, Richard and Wanda Simmons of Crossville; sister, Shawna Simmons of Crossville; and grandparents, Shirley Carey and William Simmons, and Pearl Faye Franklin, all of Crossville.

Mrs. Sullivan was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Fentress County, TN, the daughter of Cordel and Pearl Duham Ramsey.
She was a chicken processor at Perdue, and was of the Baptist faith.

Edward A. Campbell, 90, of Longview, TX, passed away Aug. 7, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 10 from the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview, with burial in Rosewood Park Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell was born May 13, 1912, in St. James, AR, the son of Walter A. and Emily Smith Campbell.
He had been a resident of Longview since 1937, and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a self-employed oil lease operator.

Fred Thomas Caruthers was born June 7, 1923, and passed from this life on Aug. 5, 2002. He was a carpenter by trade and a lifelong resident of Cumberland County, TN. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna Margaret Hayes Caruthers. Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Janice Caruthers of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Loretta Caruthers of Keokuk, IA; son, Ray Caruthers of Crossville; daughter, Susan Caruthers of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Wayne Watts of Nashville; daughter, Lora Weidner of Crossville; brother, James Caruthers of Wellington, OH; sister, Marie Daves of Crossville; and three grandsons, five granddaughters, one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Tabor was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Kingsport, TN, the daughter of James L. and Charlotte Lawson Parrott.
She owned and operated Tabor's Fruit Market for more than 35 years.
Survivors include her sons, Zilvin Joe Tabor, Willard Glen Tabor and Benjamin "Ben" Tabor, all of Crossville; and 11 grandchildren in Tennessee and one grandchild in Alabama.

Mr. Whittenburg was born March 16, 1925, in Pickett County, TN, the son of Homer and Bonnie Amonett Whittenburg.
He was a tow truck driver for General Motors, and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

James E. Foote

James E. Foote, 79, of Fairfield Glade, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away Aug. 10, 2002. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Foote was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Danville, IL, the son of Edward and Elma Smith Foote.
Most recently he was employed by Dorchester Golf Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed meeting residents and visitors to Fairfield Glade. Prior to moving to Tennessee, he had retired from Marathon Oil, Findley, OH, and Torco Pest Control in Columbus. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Foote was active in community service, particularly through Kiwanis, both at the local and state level in Ohio and Tennessee. He was a 50-plus-year member of Westgate Masonic Lodge, and a life member of Scottish Rite in Columbus, OH, and in Cumberland County, TN. He was a 50-plus-year active member of the Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus and served many years in the Aladdin Temple Marching Foot Patrol. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. The activities of fund raising including the yearly Shrine circus brought him great pleasure and benefited the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Donna M. Wendel Foote; daughters and son-in-law, Pamela Rosen of Columbus, OH, and Penny and Michael Farrar of Grove City, OH; sister, Wilma Cox of Dayton, OH; grandson, Joshua Musick, and his fiance, Meta Brown, both of Madison, WI; grandson, Ethan Farrar; granddaughter, Molly Farrar; niece, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Mr. Huffman was born March 26, 1932, in Lancaster, WI, the son of Gifford Dyle and Ruth Gillingham Huffman.
He was a retired systems analyst for the Internal Revenue Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, China Service Ribbon and Korean Service Ribbon, with five stars.

Willard Lawson, 89, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 10, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 13 at Winesap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leslie Hickey and the Rev. Rudy Oakes officiating. Burial was in Thomas Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Lawson was born July 15, 1913, in Pikeville, TN, the son of Gaither and Mary Heartence Angel Lawson.
He was a firefighter for the State Forestry Department.
Survivors include his sons, Arnold Lawson of Pikeville, Hubert Lawson of Wabeno, WI, and Buford Lawson and Ricky Lawson, both of Crossville; daughters, Bonnie Brewer, Wanda Fields and Jo Ann Brewer, all of Crossville; brothers, Lee Lawson of Sparta and W.T. Donald R. Ward
July 30, 1915 - Aug. 10, 2002
Donald Reynolds Ward, 87, of the Mt. Pleasant Village, Monroe, OH, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Mt. Pleasant. He was born July 30, 1915, in Wilmington, OH, the son of Charles Anderson Ward and Anna Reynolds Ward.
Mr. Ward was a banker for the National Bank of Detroit and retired in 1981. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Brady Bunch Golf Group. He was also a member of the Writers Club of Fairfield Glade and enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Ward was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Scotland. He was a graduate of Wilmington College, where he played tennis, ran track and was president of his local fraternity.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Harriette Fisher Ward; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Barbara Ann Ward of Springboro, OH, and Kenneth F. and Barbara Kay Ward of Cary, IL; grandsons, Adam Ward, Kevin Ward, Robert Ward and Jason Ward; and sister, Margery Ross of Colorado Springs, CO.
His parents preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held Aug. 12 at Mt. Pleasant Village, with the Rev. Stan Gockel officiating. Graveside services will be private, at the convenience of the family.

Ethelyne D.B. Windrow

Ethelyne Douglas Burkett Windrow, 95, of Fort Smith, AR, passed away Aug. 11, 2002. Graveside services were conducted today (Aug. 14) at 10 a.m. at Triune Cemetery in Williamson County, TN, with the Rev. Larry Guinn officiating.
Mrs. Windrow was born March 30, 1907, in the Southport community in Maury County, TN, the daughter of A.D. and Nancy Catherine Burkett.
She was a graduate of Columbia (TN) Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, and taught in public elementary schools in Columbia for 42 years.
She married E.H. Windrow of Eagleville, TN on Dec. 22, 1939. They served together, he as principal and she as second-grade teacher, at Highland Park Elementary School for the remainder of their careers. Mr. Windrow preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Windrow was a lifelong member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving as choir member and soloist, Sunday school teacher and as member of the Session. She was active in PTA, the Women's Missionary Society of her church and the Maury County Retired Teachers Association. She was an accomplished quilter, seamstress and cook, and loved music.
Survivors include her twin daughters and their husbands, Ann Travis Windrow and James Robert Crabtree of Crossville, and Nancy Glenn Windrow and Dr. Rowland P. Vernon of Fort Smith, AR; grandchildren, Rowland Pleasant Vernon III and his wife Randa of Tulsa, OK, Ann Elizabeth Vernon of Cambridge, England, and Howard Windrow Vernon of Fort Smith; and one great-grandchild, Reis Rowland Vernon of Tulsa.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Gospel Baptist Tabernacle.

Mrs. Cox was born April 21, 1913, in Crossville, the daughter of Francis Marion and Fannie Jane Smith Rector.

O.L. Laban Jones
April 8, 1916 - Aug. 11, 2002
O.L. Laban Jones, 86, of Clarkrange, TN, passed away Aug. 11, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 13 at Clarkrange United Methodist Church, with burial in Clarkrange Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Kaleida, the Rev. Tom Rascoe and the Rev. Ezra Earl Jones officiated.
Mr. Jones was born April 8, 1916, in Dade County, GA, the son of William Edward and Willie Theola Ginn Jones.
He grew up in Dade County, GA, and Birmingham, AL. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and in the U.S. Navy shipyard in Charleston, SC, during World War II. He was in the sheet metal business in Chattanooga and later in Fentress, Cumberland and surrounding counties.
Mr. Jones and his family moved to Clarkrange in late 1965. After retiring from sheet metal work, he raised produce, growing sweet potatoes for sale locally. He and his wife Lois were always active in their church. He taught Sunday school most of his adult life, beginning in Trenton, GA, when he was in his 20s, then at Forest Avenue United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, and continuing at Clarkrange United Methodist Church until his death.
Survivors include his sons, Dale Jones of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sidney Jones of Clarkrange; daughters, Vickie Jones of Hermitage, TN, and Sylvia Jones of Cumberland, KY; grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Mark Jones, Henry Ross, Hannah Ross, Clara Ross, Eleanor Ross, Jason Keil and Sarah Keil; and sisters-in-law, Eunice Jones of Birmingham, AL, Josephine Jones of Knoxville, Mary Evelyn Jones of Chattanooga, Ola Sutcliffe of Sparta and Ova Dean Cross of Clarkrange.
Pallbearers were Noah Smith, Doyal Smith, Barry Sutcliffe, Richard Cross, Ron Jones, Artis Coggins, Herb Thomas and Jack Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Odie Taylor, Guy Baldwin, Terry Hall, Lonnie Allred, Mike Woodard, J.C. Vaughn, Jim Taylor and Junior England.

Mr. Joseph was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Akron, OH, the son of Edward and Hortense Bolinger Joseph.
He was an electrician, and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Janice "Jan" Kee Joseph of Crossville; sons, Ricky Joseph of Arizona and Michael Joseph of Akron; daughters, Teri Cosher of Canton, OH, and Rita Caetta of Akron; brother, Richard Joseph of Davenport, FL; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Mayberry was born Jan. 6, 1904, in Putnam County, TN, the daughter of Mack Douglas and Anitt Burton Phy.
She was a retired owner and operator of a storehouse, and was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Henry Douglas Mayberry of Cookeville; brother, Wilson Phy of Cookeville; grandchildren, Pat Mayberry and Wyvette Mayberry, both of Cookeville, and Melissa Mayberry Thornsberry of Nashville; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dr. James Truan Campbell Jr., 82, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 7, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 9 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike Smathers and Bro. Pete Ullmann officiating. Graveside committal was held Aug. 10 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Dr. Campbell was born July 18, 1920, in Greeneville, TN, the son of James Truan Sr. and Maude Pence Campbell.
He was a well-known physician in Cumberland County; his father, Dr. James T. Campbell Sr., and his grandfather were also physicians. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church at Big Lick. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Harden Campbell of Crossville; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Campbell-Leeson of Corvallis, OR; son-in-law, Ted Leeson of Corvallis; and sister, Jeanne Pflum of Long Island, NY.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Hardin Campbell.

Mr. Fischer was born July 2, 1920, in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph Herman and Catherine Fischer.
He was a deliveryman and milkman, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Hayes was born March 5, 1921, in Cumberland County, the son of Jess Preston and Melissa Derrick Hayes.
He was a retired forestry technician with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, with 25 years of service. He was a member of Daysville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, June Hayes of the Daysville community of Rockwood; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Donna Hayes of Westel; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Elizabeth and Carl Butler of Harriman; grandchildren, Melissa Anne Hayes, Jason Butler and Travis Butler; four great-grandchildren; and a special cousin and his wife, Harvey and Helen Derrick of Crossville.

A second memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in St. Claire Shores, MI, with Father Joe Fogarty officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, MI, on Saturday.
Mr. Chambers was born Nov. 6, 1916, in Chicago, IL, the son of John H. Sr. and Maude Chambers.
He was a radio drill operator for Distal Tool & Die, and was a veteran who served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Chambers of Fairfield Glade; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Kay and David Fox, and Dolores T. and Raymond Kaiser, all of Michigan; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Annmarie Badke of Michigan; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lawson was born July 15, 1913, in Pikeville, TN, the son of Gaither and Mary Heartence Angel Lawson.
He was a firefighter for the State Forestry Department.
Survivors include his sons, Arnold Lawson of Pikeville, Hubert Lawson of Wabeno, WI, and Buford Lawson and Ricky Lawson, both of Crossville; daughters, Bonnie Brewer, Wanda Fields and Jo Ann Brewer, all of Crossville; brothers, Lee Lawson of Sparta and W.T. Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson was born March 10, 1933, in Chattanooga.
He was an alumni of Kirkman High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service, and retired from Chattanooga Gas Company after 16 1/2 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.

Brian Keith Floyd, 38, of Paoli, IN, passed away Aug. 21, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville, IN, with Father Roger Rudolf officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery in Connersville, IN.
Mr. Floyd was born Aug. 22, 1963, in Orange County, CA, the son of Robert Floyd and Sheila Heitzmann Floyd.
He was a 1984 graduate of King High School in Corpus Christi, TX, and was a member of the JROTC. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corpus Christi.

Doris Hanson, 81, of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 31, 2002. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. at Fairfield Glade Community Church, with the Rev. Dale Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Glade Community Church Columbarium.
Mrs. Hanson was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Hackensack, NJ, the daughter of Chester and Renee Myers Rogers.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Fairfield Glade Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Hanson of Fairfield Glade; son, Richard Hanson of Cold Chester, VT; daughters, Barbara Lorenz of Park Ridge, NJ, Christine Adams of Princeton Junction, NJ, and Laurie Hanson of Montpelier, VT; and brother, Gordon Rogers of Orma, WV.

Terrell S. Haynie
Jan. 26, 1934 - Aug. 19, 2002
On Aug. 19, 2002, Terry slipped from the loving arms of his family into the loving arms of God and His heavenly family. He was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Gastonia, NC. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly, and parents, Dillard and Sadie.
He had a deep and abiding faith in our Heavenly Father. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and retired from Motorola after 21 years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jenny Haynie; daughters, Dee Miller, Patti Haynie, Beth Humes and Christina McDermott; sons, Kristopher Haynie, Kevin Haynie, Tony Haynie and William Miller; grandchildren, Mark Fritts, Shannon Crecco, Caiti Hume and Angelica Heemes; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Cody Haynie and Micheal Fritts; sisters, Alice Gant, Hazel Welch and Evelyn Jenkins, all of Florida; and many other beloved family members, nieces and nephews, and friends.
In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
A memorial celebration of his life was held Aug. 23 at Tansi Nondenominational Church.

William B. Honeycutt

William Benton Honeycutt, 83, of Rockwood, TN, passed away Aug. 20, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 23 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with the Rev. Wayne Mullins officiating. Graveside services and interment were Aug. 24 at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Honeycutt was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Roane County, TN.
He was a retired maintenance department employee with the Tennessee Department of Transportation with 15 years of service. He was also a former employee with the Rockwood Blast Furnace, and helped in construction of the K-25 and Y-12 plants. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Geraldine H. and Ken Slaughter of Canton, GA, and Kathleen H. Nakanishi of Colorado Springs, CO; sons and daughters-in-law, Harley Dean and Suzanne Honeycutt, William Avery Honeycutt, and Vaughn Ray and Janet Honeycutt, all of Westel, TN; sisters, Jessie Beaird of Westel, Georgia Mullins and Margie Miller, both of Rockwood, and Lenice Ellison of Roddy, TN; grandchildren, Brian Nakanishi, Karyn Fishburn, Kristy Honeycutt, Eric Honeycutt, Keith Honeycutt, Kevin Honeycutt and Harley Honeycutt; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Honeycutt; brothers, Dewey Honeycutt, Johnny Honeycutt and Ford Honeycutt; and sister, Bessie Watson.

James C. Underwood

James Cleveland Underwood, 82, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 18, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 21 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Old Bon Air Cemetery. Bro. Jack Chadwell officiated, with special music by Wilma McCoy, Tracy Tatum, Lyle Houston, Marty McCoy, Jon Tatum and Herbert McCoy.
Mr. Underwood was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Wilder, TN, the son of Marshall and Verna Robinson Underwood.
He was a coal miner, and a member of Eastland Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Frazier Underwood of Crossville; daughters, Edith Sherwood of North Carolina, Verna Ann Smith of Eastland, TN, and Margaret Carol Smith of Crossville; sons, Hubert Bolin, Paul Bolin, Neal Underwood and Lynn Underwood, all of Crossville, and Lyle Underwood of Sparta; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Savage of Nashville and Helen Cunningham of Crossville; brothers, Marshall Underwood Jr. of Sparta and Harold Underwood of Indianapolis, IN; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thurman Underwood, and sister, Merle Blaylock.
Pallbearers were Travis Smith, Steve Smith, Chris Underwood, Mike Bolin, David Bolin and Jeff Underwood.

John L. Edmonds
John LeRoy Edmonds, 57, of New Mexico, formerly of White County, TN, passed away Aug. 24, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, with Bro. Glenn Hensal officiating. Burial will be at Akins Cemetery in the Winesap community of Cumberland County.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Edmonds was born in 1945, the son of Herman Dexter and Bonnie Jean Edmonds.
He was a minister, and was employed with Wagner Electric. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Edmonds of New Mexico; daughters, Bonnie Klein of California and Nikki Matheny of Sparta; sister, Carolyn Bedford of Texas; brother, Jeff Edmonds of Alabama; and six grandchildren.

Frank E. Jennings, 71, of Columbus, GA, passed away Aug. 26, 2002. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus.
Graveside services and interment will be Friday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, TN. Visitation will be held tonight (Aug. 28) from 6 to 8 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc.
Mr. Jennings was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Scott County, VA, the son of Ora E. and Myrtle Snapp Jennings.
He was a U.S. Marines veteran who served in the Korean War, and was the owner of Transportation Majestic Service. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister, Valice Jennings of Crossville; and brothers, Ora Jennings Jr. of Johnson City, TN, and Muriel Jennings of Spring City, TN.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Jennings; and sisters, Eileen Sims and Maureen Jennings.

Juanita Rozar Minor, 72, of Reistertown, MD, passed away Aug. 24, 2002. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at Wrights Cemetery in Fayetteville, TN, with Bro. John R. Worden officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fayetteville Chapel of the McCauley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Minor was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Lincoln County, TN, the daughter of Robert and Ethel Rozar Taylor.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John Worden of Reistertown, MD; sister, Janice Tunstill of Fayetteville; and granddaughter, Katherine Grace Worden of Restertown.
She was preceded in death by her son, Clyde M. Johnson II.

Eileen R.M. Vandeveer
Aug. 21, 1925 - Aug. 19, 2002
Eileen Roberta McClellan Vandeveer was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Sidney, OH, to Robert William and Frances Louella Gallimore McClellan. She was the second of two children born to Robert and Frances.
Eileen was raised in Sidney, OH, and graduated in 1943 from Sidney High School. She enjoyed singing in the school choir and was known for her wholehearted enjoyment of life. She married Robert Vandeveer in Fresno, CA, on Oct. 10, 1944, and returned to Sidney, rejoining Robert briefly in San Antonio, TX, while he was in the U.S. Army Air Force. Robert was discharged from the service in 1946 and at this time they moved to Inglewood, CA, where Eileen gave birth to and raised their four sons: Terry, born in 1949; Tom, 1950; James, 1954; and Robin, 1956. She participated actively in many varied community and civic activities during their youth. She enjoyed leading them through their Cub Scout years, and was very proud to have helped support and guide all four to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. She traveled around the country with them sightseeing and camping, and later was thrilled to go with Jim on two choir tours in England and Europe.
Her personal hobbies included many types of crafts, knitting, sewing and gardening. After Robert's retirement in 1982, they began moving their residence to Fairfield Glade in 1987, where they lived until her death on Aug. 19, 2002. While at the Glade, she ushered at the Cumberland County Playhouse, and received the Helen Byrd Outstanding Volunteer Award in 1999. She was active in several card-playing groups as well as a bowling league up until the week she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Leland Vandeveer of Fairfield Glade; sister, Dorothy McClellan Long of Sun City Center, FL; sons, Terry Lee Vandeveer of San Antonio, TX, Thomas Dean Vandeveer of Novi, MI, James Allan Vandeveer of Redondo Beach, CA, and Robin Lynn Vandeveer of Hermosa Beach, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Vandeveer Macias, Katrina Faye Vandeveer, Erin Renee Vandeveer, Lachelle Marie Vandeveer, Richard Lawrence Vandeveer and Timothy Daniel Vandeveer; and great-grandchildren, Giovanni Gincarlo Macias, Avery Vandeveer Selvage and Blake Vandeveer Selvage.

Avis Holloway, 90, of Crab Orchard, passed away Aug. 23, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 26 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Honeycutt, Pastor Brian Smith and Bro. Danny Smith officiating. Special music was by Nathan Smith and The Davenports. Burial was in Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Ms. Holloway was born April 10, 1912, in Crab Orchard, the daughter of Thomas Newton and Martha Belle Sherrill Hassler.
She was a retired regional supervisor with L.B.J.& C. Development Corporation, and was a member of the Crab Orchard Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and George Doyle of Rock Island, TN, Shelda and Boyd Pugh, and Joan and Terry Thompson, all of Crab Orchard; sons and daughters-in-law, Conley and Opal Holloway of Crab Orchard, Bob and Janie Holloway, and Jerry and Betty Holloway, all of Crossville; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ms. Mosely was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Washington, DC, the daughter of Walter and Nannie Mae Patton Stockton.
She was a retired registered nurse at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Gloria Wilson of Cortland, OH; daughter-in-law, Mattie Wilson of Kingston, TN; grandchildren, Bill Wilson, Camille Wilson and Michael Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Heather Wilson and Allen Wilson.
