Goldie Mae Edwards, 68, of Crossville, passed away March 26, 2002. A memorial service was held March 30 in the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Alan Grindstaff officiating.
Mrs. Edwards was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Jessie and Verdie Bilbrey Rich.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur W. "Junior" Edwards of Crossville; sons, Arthur Allen "Shorty" Edwards and Kevin Edwards, both of Crossville; daughters, Connie Edwards and Karen Collins, both of Crossville, Sandy Blankenship of Knoxville, Carolyn Williams of Sheffield Lake, OH, and Brenda Anderson of North Ridgeville, OH; sister, Jean Napier of Chillicothe, OH; brothers, Charles Rich and William Rich, both of Oklahoma, and Junior Rich and James Rich, both of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nannie Bell Rich and Pansy Lee Rich.

Josie Hoskins
Nov. 23, 1932 - March 27, 2002
Josie Hoskins, 69, of Crossville, passed away March 27, 2002. Funeral services were conducted March 30 at Creech Funeral Home, with burial in Green Cemetery, Bell County, TN. Bro. Jeffrey Coleman officiated.
Mrs. Hoskins was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Pineville, KY, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Alice Hoskins Thompson.
She was a factory worker for St. Mary's Cotton Mill, and a member of World Lighthouse Church.
Survivors include her husband, Martin Hoskins of Crossville; daughters, Sharon Sue Compson and Rosie Bolinger, both of Crossville, Sis Cubbison of Monroe, NC, Diane Bailey and Sarah McGhee, both of Lafollette, TN, and Erma Elliott of Lake City, TN; sons, Marty Hoskins of Lafollette, and Doyle Hoskins, Clay Hoskins, Monroe Hoskins and Jeff Hoskins, all of Crossville; sister, Sarah Howard of Middlesboro, KY; and brother, Willie Thompson of Lafollette.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Randolph.

Lois C. Krapf
Feb. 5, 1919 - March 27, 2002
Lois C. Krapf, 83, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 27, 2002. No services are planned.
Mrs. Krapf was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Homer P. and Josephine Augusta Munk Cooper.
She was a charter member of Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church in Knoxville, and was a member of Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church for the past 12 years. She was a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill - Tennessee, the International Association of Round Dance Teachers Inc., the Lloyd Shaw (dance) Foundation, ACLU, Planned Parenthood and other organizations.
Since moving to Pleasant Hill in 1994, she and her husband taught traditional square and contra dancing in the Uplands Retirement Village.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Krapf; sons and daughter-in-law, Peter Krapf of Oak Ridge, TN, and Bruce and Janet Krapf of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Fay Krapf of Raleigh, NC; and five grandchildren.

Dolores Elsa Lumpuy, 75, of Crossville, passed away March 24, 2002. Private funeral services were held, with burial in Heritage Academy Cemetery.
Mrs. Lumpuy was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Rodas, Cuba, the daughter of Rafael and Josefina Lois Espinosa.
She was a restaurant cook.

Richard C. McClain

Richard Clyde McClain, 69, of Crossville, passed away March 27, 2002.
Mr. McClain was born July 30, 1932, in Lima, OH, the son of Walter Berlin and Tracy Van Pelt McClain.
He was a warehouseman for Nakano, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Holley Sprester McClain of Crossville; sons, Walter Richard McClain of Crossville and Darrel McClain of St. Marys, GA; daughters, Linda Botchlett of Houston, TX, Charlene Baynard of Franklin, VA, Phyllis Wreede and Sylvia Wireman, both of Lima, OH, and Michelle McClain of Bedford Hills, NY; stepchildren, Kelley Williams of Kane, PA, Helen Coleman of Casper, WY, and Patrick N. Coleman of Ireland; brother, William McClain of Alaska; sisters, Donna Lotz and Mary Lou Dershem of Lima, OH; 32 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, John T. Coleman; and daughter of Sylvia Wireman.

Lillian Lucille Hayes, 84, of the Grassy Cove community, Crossville, passed away March 26, 2002. Funeral services were conducted March 29 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. Mike Kerley officiated.
Mrs. Hayes was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Ozone, TN, the daughter of Benjamin and Naomi Dyal Loden.
She was a homemaker, and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Monroe of Athens, TN, Jane Beck of Kentucky, Nettie Mae Price of Sparta, TN and Rita Hill of Mesa, AZ; sons and daughter-in-law, Les and Sue Hayes, Ferlin Hayes and Junior Hayes, all of Crossville, Dennis Hayes of North Carolina, and Bennie Hayes of Creston, IL; brothers, Dean Loden and Howard Loden, both of Crossville, Buster Loden of Jamestown, TN, and Clifford Loden of South Carolina; sisters, Pauline Wilson of Crossville and Ellen Bilbrey of Georgia; and 20 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hayes Sr.; sons, Ernie Hayes, Lynn Hayes and Luther Roy Hayes; and daughters, Martha Ann Hayes and Lora Jean Hayes.

William E. Mayberry Jr.
Feb. 24, 1922 - April 1, 2002
William "Bill" Eston Mayberry Jr., 80, of Crossville, passed away April 1, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m. at Crossville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carleton Thackston and the Rev. Carolyn Bingham officiating. Interment will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be this afternoon from 1 to 3 at the church.
Mr. Mayberry was born Feb. 24, 1922, the son of W. Eston and Lora Suttle Mayberry, delivered by Dr. Mae Wharton.
He spent his childhood in Sparta, TN, moved to Crossville, and graduated from Cumberland County High School. His education at the University of Tennessee was interrupted by World War II. A second lieutenant in the infantry, 42nd Rainbow Division, in the Battle of the Bulge, he took over as his captain fell and led the H Company of the 222nd Regiment. He was then promoted to captain. He was one of the first 15 American soldiers to enter Dachau Camp in Germany.
He graduated from UT in 1947 and returned to work in the family furniture business in Crossville. Active in many civic organizations, he was elected mayor of Crossville in 1950 at age 28. As a reservist, he served in the Korean War for 11 months, returning home in 1953. His civic activities included the following board chairmanships: Uplands Cumberland Medical Center, Uplands Retirement Home, Cumberland County UT Alumni Association, UT Development Board and the local chapter of the American Red Cross. He was instrumental in the formation of the original United Fund of Cumberland County.
He served on the Industrial Development Board and the airport committee for 40 years. He also served two additional terms on city council, three years as chairman of the Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, and was on the Regional Planning Commission for many years.
A dedicated Christian and a member of Crossville First United Methodist Church for 65 years, he taught youth and most recently was active in teaching adults. In the local church, he served as chairman of the administrative board, served on building committees, and held many other offices through the years. He was active in the Cookeville District as chairman of District Council of Ministries, was a lay leader and chaired district laity activities. In the Tennessee Conference, he was on the camping committee, the board of Conference Council of Ministries, the Bishops Advisory Committee, Conference Board of Equitable Compensation and was a lay delegate to the conference for many years.
He owned and operated W.E. Mayberry and Son Furniture and Jewelry Store on Main Street, and opened the first Dollar General Store in Crossville. He formally retired in 1990, but was constantly available to help the family business in any way. He was active not only in his church and community, but also in several retail furniture organizations.
A concerned and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his character and personality reflected his Christian faith and gentlemanly ideals.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sally Hill Mayberry; children, William E. III and Judy Clendonon Mayberry, Steve and Susan Mayberry Smartt, James and Vicky Watson Mayberry; foster daughter, Louise Kemmer Newkirk; grandchildren, Allyson Mayberry Lewis, William Eston Mayberry IV, Kathryn Mayberry, Stephanie Smartt, Stuart Smartt, Nicholas Mayberry, Leslie Mayberry, Josh Mayberry and Andrew Mayberry; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Lewis and Gracie Lewis.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Norine Beasley
Oct. 19, 1909 - April 2, 2002
Norine Beasley, 92, of Franklin, TN, passed away April 2, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Franklin, with the Rev. Robert Lewis and Stuart Nunnally officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be today at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Beasley was born Oct. 19, 1909, in Williamson County, TN, the daughter of Lawrence Walter and Martha Forehand Hussey.
She was a retired teacher after 15 years with Williamson County Schools and 11 years at Battle Ground Academy. She was a Cub Scout leader, and a volunteer for the Tuberculosis Association and the March of Dimes. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club for many years, and was an active member of the Wesleyan Service Guild. She was a member of Franklin First United Methodist Church and the Daly Thompson Sunday school class.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Hiram Beasley of Franklin; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James H. Jr. and Danielle Beasley of Crossville, and Larry and Kitty Beasley of Hartselle, AL; grandchildren, Laura Beasley Lockett, Jennifer Beasley, Trey Beasley and Tom Beasley; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Lockett and Clay Lockett.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Daly Thompson Sunday school class.

Miriam Cora Pugh, 62, of Crossville, passed away in her home Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002.

Ms. Anderson was born July 2, 1914, in Dorothy, WV, the daughter of James and Grace Dickens Honaker.
She was a member of Pomona United Methodist Church and the American Legion, and was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran.

Mr. Conley was born June 20, 1936, in Jacksboro, TN, the son of William and Abbie Whittaker Conley.
He was a truck driver, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Bilbrey Conley; children, Randall Conley, Brenda Beaty, Billy Conley and Gary Conley; stepchildren, Bob Bilbrey, Roy Bilbrey, Ruby Delk and Buford Bilbrey; sisters, Christene Rector of Crossvile and Ruby King of Erlanger, KY; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ervin was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Marion County, AL, the daughter of John Lemuel and Sarah Hyde Newman.
She was a registered nurse, and a member of the United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Hannewald was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Wood County, OH, the daughter of Oliver and Bessie May Miller Brown.
She was a founding member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Myers was born June 17, 1920, in Newton, IA, the daughter of Julia Whited and Lewis Kono.
She was the owner and operator of a market and deli.

Mr. Potter was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Cumberland County, the son of Alec and Gertie Nealon Potter.
He was a stone worker, and a member of the Church of God.

She was a business woman, involved in the furniture business.

Lula Mae Simmons

Mrs. Simmons was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Leonard and Neely Hayes Potter.
She was a teacher, and a member of Crossville First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sons, Sam Simmons of Boston, MA, and Joe Simmons of Atlanta, GA; and grandson, James Simmons of Boston.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Annie Garrett; and brothers, Lawrence Potter and Link Potter.

Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Cumberland County, the son of Joe H. and Emily Theodora Vickery Wilson.
He was a factory worker for Chrysler Corp., and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church. She had graduated from Cumberland County High School early with high honors and was attending Roane State Community College. She was a member of the Beta Club and the French Club, and was nominated for Who's Who Among American High School Students.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Steve and Dot Hensley of Crossville; mother and stepfather, Lois and Dwayne Massengill of Crossville; grandparents, Ray and Lana Hensley, and Bill and Lela Griffith, all of Crossville, and the Rev. Dexter Michael Martin, O.D., of Olive Branch, MS, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 9, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Memphis, TN. Burial will be Monday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
Dr. Martin was born May 21, 1946, the son of Marie and G. Dexter Martin of Olive Branch, MS.
He was an optometrist. He graduated from Germantown (TN) High School, the University of Memphis and Memphis Southern College of Optometry. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as an optometry officer and attaining the rank of major. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his parents, Marie and G. Dexter Martin of Olive Branch, MS; and sisters, Diane Martin Faul and B. Joan Martin Riemar, both of Cincinnati, OH.

She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. She was one of the first cooks at Grassy Cove School, was a cafeteria worker at Cumberland County High School, worked in housekeeping at Cumberland Medical Center and cared for many children in the Homestead community.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Eva Jeannetta Hamby of Rockwood and Barbara and Ron Ireson of Jonesborough, TN; grandchildren, Deborah Hamby Beeler, Donna Hamby Bradly, Dana Hamby Kirkland, Valarie Ireson Loy, James Rector, Randy Johnson, Andrew Kemmer Jr., James Edward Kemmer and Patricia Ann Kemmer; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh E. Mr. Parsons was born Feb. 4, 1907, in Crossville, the son of William M. Jr. and Ota Elmore Parsons.
He was a carpenter, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Marie Kindred Parsons of Crossville; daughters, Kathryn Cook of Birmingham, AL, and Jo Bratten of Murfreesboro, TN; sons, Kenneth Parsons and Johnny Parsons, both of Crossville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Potter was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Laurence Wayne and Betty Jo Boleyn Potter.
He was a metal fabricator for Nuclear Power Industries, and of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army 1960-'62.

James "Jack" Thomas Dyer, 85, of Sparta, passed away April 16, 2002. Funeral services were conducted April 21 at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, with burial in Lantana Cemetery in Cumberland County. Bro. Fate Wilson and Bro. Jim Scott officiated.
Mr. Dyer was born May 6, 1916, in Clifty, TN, the son of Rex and Eunice Jaco Dyer.
He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. He was the grandson of the late James Jaco, who served as sheriff of White County in the early 1900s.
Survivors include his sister, Myrtle Biermacher of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jackson was born Dec. 7, 1915, in Fentress County, the daughter of Jim and Mollie Allred Smith.
She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee Normal Institute with a bachelor's degree, and received a master's and Ed.S degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She taught school for many years in Rhea and Hamilton counties before founding Bellwether School in Spring City. Bellwether was a residential school for children with learning disabilities which Mrs. Jackson owned and operated for 25 years.
She was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Evensville.
Survivors include her son, Jim Jackson of Spring City; daughter, Mollie Partridge of Knoxville; half sister, Sue Cleckler of South Carolina; grandchildren, Todd Jackson and Cheryl Matthew, both of Spring City, and Kathy Zimmerman of Knoxville; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Todd P. Jackson.

Oma L. Houston
March 14, 1918 - April 21, 2002
Oma Lee Houston, 84, of Crossville, passed away April 21, 2002. Funeral services were conducted April 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Big Lick Cemetery. Bro. Phil Jenkins officiated.
Mrs. Houston was born March 14, 1918, in Cumberland County, the daughter of John L. and Ada Houston Brown.
She was a cook, and a member of Stephens Gap Church of Christ.
Survivors include her sons, Ervin Houston, Estel Houston and Bill Houston, all of Crossville; daughter, Marie Selby of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Herman Brown of Crossville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Houston; son, Bobby Houston; brothers, Garland Brown, Roy Brown and Baby Boy Brown; and sister, Baby Girl Brown.
Pallbearers were Wendel Worthington, Ronny Guthrie, Jerry Wood Jr., Chip Reed, Calvin Davis Sr. and Tony Davis Sr.

Michael J. Miller
Feb. 27, 1956 - April 27, 2002
Michael James Miller, 46, of the Vines Ridge community near Crawford, TN, passed away April 27, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted today (April 30) at 3 p.m. at Mineral Springs First Baptist Church. Bro. Kevin Phillips and Bro. Tony Phipps will officiate, with interment to follow in Phillips Cemetery in Hanging Limb, TN.
Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until time of services, at the church.
Mr. Miller was born Feb. 27, 1956, in Monterey, TN, the son of Cordell and Ruby Norrod Miller.
He was a commercial drywall supervisor with Price Davis Construction in Nashville. He was a member of Mineral Springs First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Danette Dial Miller of the Vines Ridge community; sons, Michael Jason Miller and his fiancee, Lori Ann Patrick, and Ryan Blake Miller and his fiancee, Amy White, all of Crossville; sisters, Justean McDonald of Monterey, Twila Wilson of Vines Ridge and Judy Lowe of Hanging Limb; brothers, Raymond Miller and Howard Miller, both of Rickman, TN, Billy Miller of Albany, IN, Beacher Miller and Freddie Miller, both of Vines Ridge, Clyde Miller of Dunkirk, IN, and Bruce Miller of Monterey; and granddaughter, Whitney Raines.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruth Ann Miller.

Johnny A. Seehorn
Feb. 27, 1924 - April 25, 2002
Johnny A. Seehorn, 78, of Johnson City, TN, passed away April 25, 2002. Funeral services were conducted April 28 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe-d Dowling Soka and the Rev. Ray McDougle officiating. Special music was provided by Susan Tanis. Graveside committal services were April 29 at Mountain Home National Cemetery, with military honors accorded by Kingsport VFW Post #3382.
Mr. Seehorn was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Johnson County, TN, the son of John Manley and Janie Vaught Seehorn.
He was a graduate of Johnson County High School in Mountain City, TN, and of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed pilot, and was formerly employed as funeral director and embalmer at Appalachian Funeral Home in Johnson City. He was a licensed golf professional, and former owner and operator of the former Lakeview Par 3 Golf Course.
He was a licensed practical nurse and had previously worked at Indian Path Medical Center Hospital. He was a cofounder of the Substance Abuse Task Force Program, which worked with inmates of Northeast Correctional Facility and Washington County Detention Center. He was a member of the Serenity Group.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he had served in the Korean War.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class, and he served as chairman of the administration board and leadership council. He also served as Sunday school teacher and head usher.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Bailey Seehorn; daughters, Janelle S. Neas of Crossville and Martha Ashley Seehorn of Piney Flats, TN; son, John William Seehorn of Johnson City; sister, Alma W. Seehorn of Johnson City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter John Seehorn; infant daughter, Pamela Jane Seehorn; brothers, Noah R. Seehorn, Sheriff James L. Seehorn and Robert W. Seehorn; and sister, Mary Seehorn Price.
