STEVEN LEE DAY
Steven Lee Day, 32, of Crossville, passed away March 24, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 27 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The Rev. Gene Burgess officiated.
Mr. Day was born Sept. 29, 1968, in Elyria, OH, the son of Roy and Freda Day.
He was a store manager in electronics.
Survivors include his parents, Roy and Freda Day of Grimsley, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Julia Day of Crossville; and nephew, Brandon M. Day.
Pallbearers were Michael Day, James Fields, Victor Randolph, Mark Randolph, Wade Goss and Billy Hayes.

JAMES O'DELL SR.
James "Jim" O'Dell Sr., 69, of Crossville, passed away March 13, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 16 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in Pomona. The Rev. Bill Roberts officiated, with special music by vocalists Misty Wilcox and Hettie Dodson and pianist John Pugh.
Mr. O'Dell was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Cumberland County, the son of Lewis and Laura Hayley O'Dell.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Tennessee Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Survivors include his son, James O'Dell Jr. of Crossville; daughters, Debbie Swafford and Tammy Kirkland, both of Crossville; brothers, David Henry of Crossville and Elmo O'Dell of Cleveland, TN; and sisters, Cora Lord and Peggy Barnwell, both of Crossville, Mary Nevius of Argentina, Anna Crosby of Camden, TN, and Juanita Womac of Charleston, TN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy O'Dell.
Pallbearers were Jesse O'Dell, Marshall Swafford, Alvin Suggs, Jim Kemmer, Tim Nevius and Mike McNelley.

BERYLE JONES SHADOWENS
Beryle Jones Shadowens, 79, of Crossville, passed away March 22, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Jonesville Cemetery. The Revs. Fay and Bratton Tucker officiated, with special music by family member Carl Poland Jr.
Mrs. Shadowens was born March 16, 1922, in Clarkrange, TN, the daughter of Bart L. and Dosha R. Stockton Jones.
She was a school teacher and a professional racehorse trainer. She was a member of Homestead United Methodist Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Larry Thomas and Janet Shadowens of Kettering, OH; sisters, Vena Kemmer of Crossville and Bernice Norman of Jamestown, TN; sisters-in-law, Mae Meyer of Dayton, OH, and Zella Dimbath of Florida; brother-in-law, Ray Shadowens of Texas; step-grandchildren, Mark Shadowens and Beth Tieman, both of Dayton; step-great-grandchild, Mark Shadowens Jr. of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Willis Shadowens; parents, Bart and Dosha Jones; sisters, Dorothy Wheaton and Gladys York; and brothers, Irvin Jones and Bart Jones Jr.
Pallbearers were Mike Jones, Boyd Wheaton, Randy York, Roger York, Ronnie Norman and John Paul Pennington.

GLENIS ANITA BURNETT
Glenis Anita Burnett, 49, of Crossville, passed away March 17, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 20 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Scott White officiated.
Mrs. Burnett was born June 6, 1951, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Warren and Geraldine Brady Rankhorn.
She was deputy county clerk for Cumberland County, and a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Burnett of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Victor Franklin of Crossville; sisters, Linda Allred and Sarah Raper, both of Crossville, and Esther England of Winchester, TN; brothers, Charles Rankhorn and Mark Rankhorn, both of Crossville; and grandson, Preston Mark Franklin of Crossville.
Pallbearers were Anthony Luttrell, Keith Garrison, Larry Warner, Toby Whitson, Jason Bilyeu and Mike Stubbs.

NORMA ANNORA FRITZ
Norma Annora Fritz, 72, of Crossville, passed away March 18, 2001. A memorial service was held March 21 in the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fritz was born July 21, 1928, in Crossville, the daughter of Homer and Verdie Imogene "Jean" Kerley Wright.
She was a quality controller, and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her son, Alan Fritz of Crossville; daughters, Merry Rusaw and Nancy Mayes, both of Crossville; sister, Shirley Sullivan of Parkersburg, WV; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Wright; and sister, Barbara Jo Wright.

LEONARD KEELING
Leonard Keeling, 93, of Knoxville, TN, passed away March 23, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 25 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Mayland Cemetery. Cliff Ingram and Bratton Tucker officiated.
Mr. Keeling was born Sept. 28, 1907, in Donelson, TN.
He was a salesman.
Survivors include his daughter, Anne K. Mintz; sisters, Mary Simpkions, Margaret Cole and Clemmie VanPelt; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kevin Brown, Mark Mintz, Robin Mintz, Jonathan Mintz and Lynn Simpkions.

CHARLES O. MEYERS
Charles O. Meyers, 77, of Crossville, passed away March 25, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted tonight, Tuesday, at 8 at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, TN, with the Rev. Thomas Kilby officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Deer Lodge, TN.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Meyers was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Bonnie Blue, VA.
He was retired from the DT&I Railroad, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Phillips Meyers of Crossville; daughter, Elaine Hill of Adrien, MI; sons, Tony Meyers of Monroe, MI, Jack Meyers of Clarkrange, TN, and James Meyers of Pennsylvania; brothers, Clay Meyers of Cleveland, TN, and Lewis Meyers of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

HELEN P. STEINER
Helen P. Steiner, 85, of Rossford, OH, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 20, 2001. A private family graveside service will be held in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery in Toledo, OH.
Mrs. Steiner was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Tiffin, OH.
She worked at the Maumee Valley Country Day School, retiring as a bookkeeper. Previously, she had been a bookkeeper for Seaway Foodtown at the Maumee Headquarters, and was a unit manager for Stanley Home Products. She also worked as a beautician.
Mrs. Steiner was a member of Triune Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and was past mother advisor to the Triune Chapter of Rainbow Girls.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and James Leonard, Judy and Leonard Gwozdz, and Dianne and Andrew Kostic; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Sharon and Howard Brown; sister, Marianne Heitzman; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Steiner.
The family requests memorials be made to the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

EDWARD FREDERICK CHERMEL
Edward "Ed" Frederick Chermel, 77, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 13, 2001. A time of remembrance was held March 16 at the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home.
Mr. Chermel was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Chicago, IL, the son of Stanley and Mary Chebrone Chermel.
He was a purchasing agent for Nobert Plating Co., and was of the Catholic faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Anna "Dutchie" Swoboda Chermel of Fairfield Glade; sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Sharon Chermel of Niles, IL, and Mark and Jamie Chermel of South Lake, TX; and four grandchildren.

TEDDIE RACHEL TABOR
Teddie Rachel Tabor, 71, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Crossville, passed away March 20, 2001. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, March 24, at 3 p.m. at Pugh Cemetery.
Ms. Tabor was born May 14, 1929, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Theodore R. and Cora Lee Wyatt Tabor.
Survivors include her mother, Cora Tabor of Crossville; brother, Oliver Tabor of Crossville; and sisters, Mary Lou Whittenburg of Crossville, Mamie McCuistin of Indianapolis, IN, and Ruth Parsons of Buhl, ID.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Tabor.

ARMELDIA ELENE BROWN
Armeldia Elene Brown, 67, of Crossville, passed away March 16, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 18 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Turner Cemetery. Bro. Phil Jenkins officiated, with special music by Lyle Houston, Kevin Wyatt, Wilma McCoy, Tracy Tatum and Marty McCoy.
Mrs. Brown was born April 5, 1933, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Paul Bryan and Evelyn Wells Turner.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wilburn Brown of Crossville; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Gary Lowe and Ruth and Glen McCoy, all of Crossville, and Linda and Ricky Barnett of Lancing, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Renee Brown, Wilburn Brown Jr., Marvin and Jessica Brown and Hershell and Michelle Brown, all of Crossville; sisters, Marie Phillips, Florence Sevier, Catherine Myers, Louella Kemmer and Violet Atkinson, all of Crossville, and Jean Jestice of Clarkrange, TN; brothers, Ervia Turner of Crossville and Roy Turner of Lenoir City, TN; 29 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

ROY CALVERT
Roy Calvert, 80, of Crossville, passed away March 16, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 18 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. David A. Rowan and Nick Ball officiated.
Mr. Calvert was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Sumner County, TN.
He was a tax consultant, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Calvert; daughter, Sue Wincel; sons, J. Patrick Calvert, Roy L. Calvert Jr., Eric Calvert and Devin Calvert; and a sister, Leona Carter.

HAROLD RANDOLPH CAREY
Harold Randolph Carey, 60, of Crossville, passed away March 14, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. B.J. Brown officiated.
Mr. Carey was born April 3, 1940, in Claiborne County, TN, the son of Lilborn Milton and Beulah Maude Lynch Carey.
He was a stone mason, and served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his sons, John Carey and Robert Carey, both of Crossville; sisters, Marilyn Bowman of Gatlinburg, TN, Jacquelyn Neal of Manchester, TN, and Margie Carey, Judy Carey, Joan Vest, Wanda Sanderson and Sandra Campbell, all of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ann Ireland Carey.

FRED FREDRICKSON
Fred Fredrickson, 82, of Crossville, passed away March 15, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 20 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Greg Boisbert officiating.
Mr. Fredrickson was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Lemmon, SD.
He was a mechanist engineer and fabricator for General Motors, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Garvis. He was a charter member of the Cumberland County Elks Club, and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Fredrickson; son, David Earnest Fredrickson; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three foster children, Shirley Laneaski, William Rumbos and Tracy Mannoth.

GEORGE LESTER HILL JR.
George Lester Hill Jr., 77, of Crossville, passed away March 17, 2001. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church on Braun St. with services immediately after at 8 p.m. A separate, smaller service will be at Mr. Hill's home church, Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Wednesday at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Hill was born May 26, 1923, in Crab Orchard, the son of George L. and Susie Kemmer Hill.
He attended Cumberland Mountain School, Cumberland County High School, Castle Heights Military Academy and the University of Tennessee. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
In 1946, he became manager of the family business, Hill's Department Store in Crossville. He began Hill's Sports in 1976. He served on numerous local and state civic and business organizations. He was a member of the board of directors of First National Bank for 29 years, a charter member of the Cumberland County Fair Association, and a member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Retail Merchants Association.
He served as a state representative in 1971-'72 in the 87th General Assembly. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1968 and 1988.
As a young man, he played baseball for the Crossville Blues, and continued to support baseball teams in the community. He was an avid sportsman his entire life, having "laid to rest" 39 turkeys Ñ on two occasions, two with one shot. He was a member of various outdoor and sporting organizations, including serving as commissioner for the Tennessee Wildlife Commission for six years, as treasurer of the Tennessee Wild Turkey Federation, and was a member of the Cumberland County Sportsman Club.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Blue Lodge Masonic Temple, the Scottish Rite, and the Alhambra Shrine Temple. Mr. Hill also was a member of the Crossville Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Brock Hill; sons, Brock Hill of Crossville and David Hill of Nashville; daughter, Rebecca Hill Bailey of Knoxville; sister, Sally Hill Mayberry of Crossville; brother, James E. Hill Sr. of Crossville; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, George Lester Hill III.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Woodlawn United Methodist Church or the Cumberland County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

JOSEPH R. HUNSCICK
Joseph R. Hunscick, 84, of Crossville, passed away March 14, 2001. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Hunscick was born June 20, 1916, in Brinkerton, PA, the son of Mary and Pete Hunscick.
He was a retired die-setter employed by Kelsey Hayes.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marlin and Ronald Bodary of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Deanna Johnston of Crossville and Robin and Margaret Johnston of Renton, WA; son, Jeff Johnston of Romulus, MI; brother, John Hunchik of Jeannette, PA; sisters, Betty Burrill of Springfield, MA, and Mary Jenkins of Blandon, PA; nieces, Robyn Samasuk of Westminster, MD, Joey Wakefield of McKeesport, PA, and Debbie Thomas of Port View, PA; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Pete Hunscick; and his wife, Dorothy Hunscick.

CARL CURTIS McCOY
Carl Curtis McCoy, 71, of Crossville, passed away March 16, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 17 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Elmore Cemetery. Clayton Padgett officiated.
Mr. McCoy was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Cumberland County, the son of William and Anna McCoy.
He was a floor sander.
Survivors include his daughter, Rose Ann McCoy of Crossville; sons, David C. McCoy and Tim J. McCoy, both of Crossville, and Tom E. McCoy of Cookeville; brothers, John L. McCoy of Crossville and Herman L. McCoy of Georgia; sister, Geneva Christenson of Georgia; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna McCoy; and his wife, Mattie McCoy.

MATTHEW ERIC SMITH
Matthew Eric Smith, 26, of Crossville, passed away March 10, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 14 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Bro. Barry Lee and Bro. Harold Qualls officiated, with special music by Alton Tabor, Vickie Tabor, Charlotte Tabor and Anne Stout.
Mr. Smith was born March 24, 1974, in Cumberland County, the son of Frank and Sharon Barnwell Smith.
He was a stone mason, and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his daughter, Zoee Clinton of Kennedale, TX; parents, Frank and Sharon Smith of Crossville; grandparents, Mary Ellen and Ray Nolan Barnwell of Crossville; grandmother, Ethel Smith of Crossville; great-grandmother, Katherine Tabor of Crossville; his daughter Zoee's mother, Christine Clinton of Kennedale; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were Louis Smith, Lee Netherton, Bubba Stokes, Heath Davis, Stan Tabor, Sam Smith, Brian Reed and Seth Smith.

HELON M. VANRIPER
Helon M. Vanriper, 79, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Feb. 28, 2001. Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date in Fairfield Glade.
Mrs. Vanriper was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Coburn, VA, the daughter of Elizabeth Woodard and John Sprinkle.
She was employed by C&P Telephone Co. and Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as an operator and plant assigner.
Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Vanriper of Fairfield Glade; brother, Frank Sprinkle of Fairfield Glade; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and nine sisters and brothers.

LEOLA FRANCES PIPER BOYCE
Leola Frances Piper Boyce, 87, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 1, 2001. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Mrs. Boyce was born March 14, 1913, in West Liberty, IL, the daughter of Zina M. and Bessie Lewis Piper.
She completed her training as a registered nurse in Olney, IL, and performed graduate training in Washington, DC. Her first job was operating room supervisor at Uplands Sanitarium in Pleasant Hill in 1936. After marrying William Alexander Boyce in 1939, she worked in Wolf County, KY, as a county public health nurse. She and her husband worked together as herdsmen at the University of Tennessee, served as farm manager and director of the Farm and Community Center of Uplands in Pleasant Hill for the American Missionary Board, and were farm managers for private farms in Crossville and Celina, TN. Their last job together, before retiring in 1978 to the Uplands Retirement Community, was livestock specialists for the Tennessee Prison System. Mrs. Boyce was also active in church, Parent Teacher Association and County Homemakers.
Survivors include her sons, Paul A. Boyce of Celina, Robert P. Boyce of Berea, KY, and Stephen L. Boyce of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Elizabeth F. Gann of Bowling Green, KY; sisters, Geraldine Piper of Pleasant Hill and Dorothy Cabeen of Lynchburg, VA; five grandchildren; and two granddaughters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zina M. and Bessie Lewis Piper; her husband, William Alexander Boyce; and a brother, Harold T. Piper.

Della Mae Norris, 83, of Crossville, passed away March 13, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted today, March 16, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Bro. Arlon Way will officiate, with special music by Leo Brown.
Mrs. Norris was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Bledsoe County, the daughter of Beecher and Della Marie Swafford Tollett.
She was a teacher's aide, and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughters, Anna Norris of Fort Walton, FL, and Rita Brown of Chattanooga, TN; sons, Walter Norris Jr. of Crossville and Wes Norris of Chattanooga; brother, Phil Tollett of Crossville; sisters, Louise Driver of Crossville, Ruth McIe of Grafton, OH, and Patsy York of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Marcia Wisdom Conley, Barbara Wisdom Clouse, Jaye Norris, Charlotte Gaston and Contesa Wood; and great-grandchildren, Avery Conley III, Harley Michael Conley and Alycia Mae Gaston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Beecher and Della Marie Tollett; sister, Cecil Tollett; and brothers, Hubert Tollett, Otis Tollett, Frank Tollett and Arnold Tollett.

JULIUS BACHMAN
Julius Bachman, 82, of Crossville, passed away March 9, 2001. Memorial services were conducted March 12 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with Dr. David Wollenberg officiating. Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Bachman was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Benton County, IA.
He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a commander. He was a highly decorated veteran, earning the Bronze Star and numerous other commendations, citations and ribbons. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater, in the Korean War and in the Philippines.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bachman of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Vicki Bachman of Marietta, GA; brother, Bob Bachman of Stewarts Point, WI; sisters, Dorothy Bade of Mankato, MN, and Helen Wilson of Norcross, GA; and one granddaughter, Ashley Bachman of Marietta.

VINIA MAE LAWSON
Vinia Mae Lawson, 81, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 9, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 11 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Eliot Roberts and Bro. Sam Davis officiated.
Mrs. Lawson was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Dyer Blaylock.
She was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Lawson of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Dorothy Parks and Judy Parks, both of Pleasant Hill; sons, Osie Lawson of Crossville and Jerry Lawson of Pleasant Hill; sister, Roby Frazier of Smith Chapel, TN; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Lawson; brothers, Byron Blaylock, Woody Blaylock and Cordell Blaylock; sisters, Lola Buckner, Hazel Wyatt, Ellen Norris and Ruby Lawson; and grandson, Randy Parks.

JOYCE P. McDONALD
Joyce P. McDonald, 73, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 12, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted tonight, March 14, at 7 at Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade, with the Rev. Carl Olin officiating.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 16 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Memorial Association in Livonia, MI, with burial to follow. Pastor Dave Jahn will officiate.
Mrs. McDonald was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Eric and Louise Zielke Priebe.
She was a homemaker, and a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, MI. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur McDonald of Fairfield Glade; son, Michael McDonald of The Woodlands, TX; daughters, Candace Sprout of Lawrence, KS, Deborah Cabell of Hartland, MI, and Cynthia Masters of Sugarland, TX; brother, Eric Leroy Priebe of New Port Richey, FL; sister, Margaret Hilliard of White Lake, MI; and five grandchildren.

Thurman C. Potter, 75, of Clarksville, IN, passed away March 5, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 7 at Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, IN, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. James Bullock officiated.
Mr. Potter was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Tennessee, the son of Floyd and Ardania Potter.
He was a retired welder for Naval Ordnance, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post No. 1832 in Jeffersonville, a life member of the Society of Past Masters of Clark County American Legion No. 35, and a life member of Jeffersonville Army Veterans of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Clark Masonic Lodge No. 40 in Jeffersonville and George Rogers Clark Scottish Rite, and a life member of Tri-County Shrine Club in Clarksville.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Rockey of Clarksville; son, Marvin Potter of Jeffersonville; sisters, Doreen Barnett of Crossville, Wiladeen Barnes of Montana and Alene Wright of New Jersey; brothers, Clyde Potter of New Jersey and J.H. Potter and Winfred Potter, both of Crossville; grandson, Will Kramer of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.

WILLIAM A. POTTER
William A. Potter, 75, of Sweetwater, TN, passed away March 11, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 13 from the chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater, with the Rev. Bobby Lawson and the Rev. Clinton Riddle officiating. Interment followed in Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park, with the Rev. Edward Humphreys officiating. Military honors were provided by local VFW Post No. 5156.
Mr. Potter was born May 16, 1925, in Bristol, TN, the son of Marion and Viola Roark Potter.
He was employed in construction, and was a member of Murray's Baptist Church in Sweetwater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a lifetime member of Gold Star VFW Post No. 5156 in Sweetwater.

Mrs. Sharp was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Pickett County, TN, the daughter of Phillip and Arza Pryor.

Emily Lynn Veler, 2 years and 8 months old, of Rockwood, TN, passed away March 11, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at Ozone Baptist Church, with burial in Ozone Cemetery. Bro. Gerald Tapp will officiate, with special music by Regina Carson.
Visitation will be this evening, March 14, from 6 to 9 at Bilbrey Funeral Home.
Emily was born June 18, 1998, in Knoxville, TN, the daughter of Daniel V. and Laurie Lynn Lockwood Veler of Ozone.
In addition to Emily's parents, survivors include her brothers, Matthew Veler of Ozone and Christopher Veler of Clinton, TN; sisters, Leslie Veler of Clinton, and Danielle Blacharski and Kristen Blacharski, both of Las Vegas, NV; and grandmother, Pat Schallhorn of Fort Meyers, FL.

LEOLA FRANCES PIPER BOYCE
Leola Frances Piper Boyce, 87, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 1, 2001. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Mrs. Boyce was born March 14, 1913, in West Liberty, IL, the daughter of Zina M. and Bessie Lewis Piper.
She completed her training as a registered nurse in Olney, IL, and performed graduate training in Washington, DC. Her first job was operating room supervisor at Uplands Sanitarium in Pleasant Hill in 1936. After marrying William Alexander Boyce in 1939, she worked in Wolf County, KY, as a county public health nurse. She and her husband worked together as herdsmen at the University of Tennessee, served as farm manager and director of the Farm and Community Center of Uplands in Pleasant Hill for the American Missionary Board, and were farm managers for private farms in Crossville and Celina, TN. Their last job together, before retiring in 1978 to the Uplands Retirement Community, was livestock specialists for the Tennessee Prison System. Mrs. Boyce was also active in church, Parent Teacher Association and County Homemakers.
Survivors include her sons, Paul A. Boyce of Celina, Robert P. Boyce of Berea, KY, and Stephen L. Boyce of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Elizabeth F. Gann of Bowling Green, KY; sister, Geraldine Piper of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren; and two granddaughters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zina M. and Bessie Lewis Piper; her husband, William Alexander Boyce; and a brother, Harold T. Piper.

Joan Davidson, 63, of Crossville, passed away March 6, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 12 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, SC.
Mrs. Davidson was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Plymouth, England, the daughter of Frederick and Carol Websdell.
She was retired from the Dallas, TX, district attorney's office.
Survivors include her father, Frederick Websdell of Myrtle Beach; her husband, Gary Davidson of Crossville; son, Robert Scott Van Zandt of Oneonta, NY; daughters, Tanya Pondolfino of Clearwater, FL, and Yana Olive of Oneonta; sisters, Deanna Keith of Myrtle Beach and Shirley Greenman of Aynor, SC; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones was born April 30, 1943, in Boone, NC, the daughter of Larna and Reba Palmer Miller.
She was a school teacher, and a member of Homestead United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jones and her husband, Wayne F. Jones Sr., were owners of Mountain Vegetables Inc.
Survivors include her mother, Reba Miller of Crossville; her husband, Wayne F. Jones Sr. of Crossville; son, Wayne F. Mr. Tabor was born March 7, 1921, in the Tabor community in Cumberland County.
He was a maintenance worker, and a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran of World War II.

Phillip Tabor Sr., 59, of Dayton, OH, passed away March 5, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 7 at George C. Martin Funeral Home in Dayton. Bro. Steve Veg officiated.
Mr. Tabor was born Aug. 30, 1941, in Crossville.
Survivors include his father, Fred Tabor of Crossville; daughters, Charlotte Tabor and Elizabeth Tabor, both of Dayton; son, Phillip Tabor Jr. of Dayton; sister, Linda Braden of Dayton; brother, William Osterhaus of Dayton; and cousins, Pamela Godsey and William Godsey.

LOUIS R. TAMMARO
Louis R. Tammaro, 72, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 24, 2001. Burial with full military honors was Feb. 28 at Ridgehill Memorial Park in Amherst Township, OH.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, March 20, at 6 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Father Patrick Brownell will officiate. A small reception will follow the service.
Mr. Tammaro was born May 5, 1928, in Lorain, OH.
He was a resident of Lorain County, OH, until his move to Crossville in 1992. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1946 and from Elyria Business College in 1957. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant. He was employed for 31 years as an inspector in the Quality Control Department at Thew Division of Koehring Co. in Lorain. He also worked at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works, General Floor Covering in Cleveland, OH, and Carpet Barn in Sandusky, OH.
Following retirement, he was employed as assistant manager of Little Caesar's Pizza in Crossville. He also operated his own tax preparation service for over 40 years.
He served as the first PTA president of Lorain's Homewood School. He was a member of Amherst's Marion Steel High School Band Boosters, and served as den leader, treasurer and Roundtable Staffmember of Amherst's Cub Scout Pack 494 for 22 years.
In Lorain, he was a member of the Sons of Italy, Italian American Veterans Post 1, life member of the VFW, member and past treasurer of the Abrusezzi Club and member of the Sheffield Lions Club, where he held all offices.
He belonged to St. Alphonsus Church in Crossville and St. Peter's Church in Lorain, where he was adult server, usher and choir member. He and his wife served on the Curcillo staff, and were involved in the Christ Renews His Parish movement and Marriage Encounter.
In Crossville he was active with the Senior Center, the Woodcarvers Club and the Senior Olympics, where he won many medals. He was named Senior of the Year in 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Young Tammaro; daughters, Deborah Harris of Richland, WA, Cynthia Tammaro of St. Augustine, FL, Kathleen MacLean of Independence, OH, and Angela Cecil of Wakeman, OH; son, Louis Tammaro of Pleasant Hill; sisters, Nancy Richardson of Amherst, Matilda Jakubowski of Lorain and Amelia Reph of Inverness, FL; brothers, Lucio Tammaro and Joseph Tammaro, both of Amherst, and Stephen Tammaro of Lorain; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Tammaro; a brother, Michael Tammaro; and a sister, Rosetta Nicholson.

NOAH CARL BARNETT
Noah Carl Barnett, 68, of Crossville, passed away March 2, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 4 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Chaplain Maj. Stephen Feehan officiating. Interment was at Green Acres Memory Gardens, with the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Fort Campbell, KY, doing the presentation of the flag, firing detail and Taps.
Mr. Barnett was born March 27, 1932, in Cumberland County, the son of Noah and Lenora Manning Barnett.
He was retired from the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant, having served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal (fifth award) and Expert Badge with Bar-M-14 Rifle. He also worked as a security guard for Cumberland Medical Center, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his brother, Ernest Barnett of Orlando, FL; and sisters, Christine Saylor of Crossville, Mildred Cisco of Bluefield, WV, and Noalene Armstrong of Louisville, KY.
The U.S. Army Honor Guard of Fort Campbell, KY, served as pallbearers, including Sgt. Robert Vest, Spc. Michael Gegenhimer, Spc. Patrick Kortright, Pfc. Edward Burnetti, Pfc. Jason Gombert and Pfc. Robert Porter.

William Everet Brown, 61, of Crossville, passed away March 2, 2001. No services are planned.
Mr. Brown was born June 18, 1939, in Miami, FL, the son of Alvin and Myrtle Hodge Brown.
He was a transit superintendent for Metro-Dade County, FL, and of the Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Ferring Brown of Crossville; daughters, Linda Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Laura Watkins of Knoxville, TN; and a granddaughter, Samantha Schramski of Knoxville.

Caile Ann was born Feb. 22, 2001, in Knoxville, TN, the daughter of Dwayne and Amanda Adams Dearmon of Crossville.

HAROLD RALPH NELSON
Harold Ralph Nelson, 65, of Crossville, passed away March 2, 2001. Graveside services were held March 4 at Crossville City Cemetery, with Bill Hargis giving the eulogy.
Mr. Nelson was born Jan. 6, 1936, in Cumberland County, the son of Claude and Margaret Spurrier Nelson.
He was a retired math teacher, having been a longtime faculty member of the local Tennessee Technology Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Crossville Masonic Lodge and the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include numerous cousins, including Evelyn Spurrier Hargis and Kenneth Ray, both of Cumberland County; cousin-in-law and friend, Bill Hargis; former classmate and friend, Joe Lee Smith; former colleague and friend, Jim Purcell; and Diane Burgess, his at-home caregiver for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clara Jean "Toppie" Davenport Simpson, 72, of Farragut, TN, passed away March 3, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 5 at Concord United Methodist Church in Farragut, with the Rev. Mrs. Simpson was born May 27, 1928, in Crossville, the daughter of William Paul and Nelle Davenport.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Concord United Methodist Church.

Harold L. Spencer, 65, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 1 from the chapel of Burris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brent Welty officiating, and special music by Faye Brandon and Bonnie Neveu. Graveside services were held March 3 at Maplewood Cemetery in Toledo, OH.
Mr. Spencer was born Jan. 8, 1936, in Toledo, the son of Harold L. Sr. and Ruby M. Thompson Spencer.
He was a railroad conductor with Conrail, and a member of Trinity Tabernacle.

FRANKLIN DEE COPELAND SR.
Franklin Dee Copeland Sr., 59, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 26, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 1 at Campground Baptist Church, with burial in Campground Cemetery. Bro. Ralph Reagan officiated.
Mr. Copeland was born May 3, 1941, in Overton County, TN, the son of Mitch and Lilly Howard Copeland.
He was a rock quarry worker, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Stephens Copeland of Crossville; sons, Frank Copeland Jr., Daly Copeland and Mitch Copeland, all of Crossville; sister, Earline Ipock of Jamestown, TN; and brother, Lester Copeland of Jamestown.
Pallbearers were Mr. Copeland's brothers-in-law, Jesse Stephens, Johnny Stephens, Michael Lenz, Alonzo Bullock, Larry Raleigh and Claude Matthews.

PHYLLIS LAFEVER
Phyllis Lafever, 66, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 27, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 2 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Dunn Cemetery. The Rev. Bratton Tucker officiated.
Ms. Lafever was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Dayton, OH.
She worked at Delbar Products Inc.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Stutz of Versailles, OH; and brothers, Peter Seidenstricker of Dayton, OH, and Dale Seidenstricker of Kelseyville, CA.
Pallbearers were Vance Graham, Jimmy Smith, Mark Davis, Jerry Graham, Jason Ford, Tim Davis, Harold Fuller and Dale Swallows.

DOUGLAS NETHERTON
Douglas Netherton, 39, of Crossville, passed away March 1, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 4 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Clifford Wentzel officiated.
Mr. Netherton was born Aug. 23, 1961, in Dayton, OH.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret Netherton of Crossville; brothers, Michael Netherton, Ricky Netherton and Mylan Netherton, all of Crossville; sister, Victoria Vines of Crossville; daughter, Teasha Kilby of Crossville; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Alton Wentzel, Steve Hanvy, Marlon Harville, David Price, Tom Farris, Rodger Jones, Anthony Music and Lewis Brenett.

NOBA LOU NORRIS
Noba Lou Norris, 88, of Crossville, passed away March 2, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 3 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Linary Cemetery. Larry Brown officiated.
Mrs. Norris was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Crossville.
She was a librarian.
Survivors include her son, Herthel Norris of Franklin, TN; daughter, Zella Brown of Dallas, TX; brothers, Nelson Houston and John Thomas Houston, both of Crossville; sister, Naomi Hall of Crossville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers.
Pallbearers were Chuck Brown, David Brown, Larry Brown, Mike Brown, Dan Norris and Patricia Norris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clara's Cottage in Crossville.

ANTONETTE PUSHINSKI
Antonette Pushinski, 96, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Feb. 28, 2001. Funeral services were conducted March 5 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Father Gregory Boisvert officiating. Burial will be in West Wyoming, PA.
Mrs. Pushinski was born Nov. 14, 1904, in Reading, PA, the daughter of Matthew and Anna Sheparaitis Skurkis.
She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons, William Pushinski of Fairfield Glade and Charles Pushinski of Streetsboro, OH; and daughters, Lillian Kryczkowski of Utica, NY, and Eleanor Hedberg of Fairfield Glade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon J. Pushinski; brother, John Skurkis; and sisters, Helen Lemonowski, Mary Conrad and Elizabeth Sauter.

MILDRED C. MEERS
Mildred C. Meers, 81, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Crossville, passed away Feb. 24, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 28 from the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Minister Waymon Summers officiating. Interment was at the U.S. National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
Mrs. Meers was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Crossville.
She was retired from J.C. Penney, and was a 50-year member of Ridgedale Church of Christ, and the Auditorium Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Ridgers Home Demonstration Association.
Survivors include her husband, Z. Steve Meers of Chattanooga; sons, Ronald Stephen Meers of Murfreesboro, TN, and David Lamar Meers of Wilmington, DE; daughter-in-law, Sandi Meers of West Chester, PA; and two grandsons, Daniel Meers of Sumas, WA, and Ryan Meers of West Chester, PA.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Martin Boyd Christian Center or the American Heart Association.
